I have wanted a large tattoo on my thigh for a very long time. I've had many pictures saved and ideas in my head but since moving down to Columbus I have not been able to find an artist that could meet so of my needs (time, colors, fading, shading, mix of styles and price. I also struggled to find a place that was willing to do the piece all in one sitting for me as that's how I prefer to be worked on. We stopped by Sweet Baby Octane by accident one day and met the artist Dan Byas. He had a very long wait list but we loved his work so I booked an appointment a few months out for an entire day. I was able to preview his work online while waiting for my appointment and I was very excited. I sent him photos of my inspirations as well as information on what I was looking for.When my appointment finally came I was thrilled to see that Dan had spent many hours assembling exactly what I was asking him for. He took the photos that I gave him and really made them his own and added special details to make it a truly one-of-a-kind piece. We did some last-minute tweaking and then he got started right on schedule.The session was grueling and by the time it was over I swore I would never get another tattoo, lol. But I have to say through the whole thing Dan was very pleasant and he tolerated my antsy movements and horrible jokes just trying to get through an entire day of getting tattooed.  He also let me get up and move around as needed and we had a short lunch break in the middle. As the tattoo progressed I changed my mind about color and decided that pink and black really is my theme and he was excited to produce something that had even more meaning for me.I was very impressed with this entire facility and everyone that we met there. My fiance has an appointment in a month to completely rework a tattoo he's never been happy with and I'm so excited to see how that comes out. I had this awful dolphin tattoo on my ankle for too long and contemplated getting it removed for years but had no idea what I wanted. I didn't want a flower or vine to cover it. I had an idea and after an hour and a half of drawing it directly on me and then wiping it off until it was perfect. He said we needed to draw it on because the anatomy can be so challenging with a concept like this on the foot. When it was said and done D. I made an appointment to get a tattoo done. I showed up for the appointment but the tattoo artist did not. Another artist ended up filling in but I should have just gone somewhere else. Since he was not planning on the appointment he was extremely rushed. The tattoo ended up being a lot different than what I wanted and there are several crooked and unfinished lines. One of the best shops in Columbus. High quality tattoos for good prices. I got a chest tattoo done at "Inspired by Ink" and the tattoo was so bad that ink came out and I was left with my chest destroyed. I couldn't even take off my shirt in public. I met Dan and instead of laughing at the tattoo he treated me like a human being. Dan touched up my whole chest and did a perfect cover up of the old tattoo. Finally. Talented artists and no horrible attitude. I just finished getting half of my  planned back piece done by Dan (Rev. Dice) at SBO. I couldn't have asked for a nicer dude or a more impressive artist. He took the time to listen to what I wanted, didn't give me any attitude about it (but did give me lots of helpful suggestions), and made me feel instantly comfortable. He seemed genuinely excited to draw it up and I instantly knew it was the right tattoo. I think we are both stoked to get it completed.First time in my life that I spent my time under the needle actually talking to the artist. We liked the same music, so that was  bonus. The whole crew here is hysterical and fun to be around. I enjoyed my time here and look forward to going back for another 4 hours... in 2 months, since Dan is booked way in advance.I really don't think the shop is expensive. $100 an hour seems like the going rate for a good tattooer. I couldnt be more happy with the sleeve designed and tattooed by Mike. I came to the shop with some ideas and Mike really translated those ideas into a beautiful Japanese style work of art. I haven't gotten any tattoos done in Columbus, so when I began my search for a place to start on my half sleeve the internet was all I had. After researching some places and compiling a list, a friend of mine that was planning to get a tattoo done as well came and checked Sweet Baby Octane out. Dan had an opening, so he made an appointment for the two of us with him. I'll admit, when you first walk into the place the atmosphere is definitely interesting but the rooms where the actually tattooing was done was extremely clean and well lit, and they allowed myself and two other people to go back with my friend while he got his done. Another artist, Mike, had an opening that day and agreed to do my tattoo. I will never go anywhere else as far as my arm tattoos are concerned. Read Less

Mike Gombeda created a custom piece of art for my arm! He took his time with the drawing, planning, using the stencil, and free-handed portions. He always asked permission to free-hand something in place of an original idea to see if it would work better. He was never pushy and never made me feel like his ideas were better than mine. He was especially patient with me when picking out the colors, particularly when I was being indecisive. I really appreciated and welcomed his suggestions during the whole process. Also, as a woman a big plus for me was that Mike never gave me that creepy guy vibe. I never had a fear of infection or cross contamination because Mike is crazy about cleanliness. He washed his hands before we started each session and after breaks, he probably changed his gloves 10 times each session, too. Everything was wrapped in plastic i.e. trays, machines, chairs, electrical wires, etc. Plus, I had the opportunity to watch him open all the needles and tubes from their original packaging during every set up. After completely healing, there are no lumpy scar tissue spots and my skin is smooth to the touch. The colors in my tattoo are vibrant and beautiful, I get compliments all the time! I could not be more happy with my first tattoo experience with D Willy at Sweet Baby Octane.  From the greeting when walking in the door, to the helpfulness over the phone, everything was first rate.  D explained the process to me, and was happy to answer all of my questions.  He was even able to make a last minute change for me, and it turned out great! I get compliments all the time on my tattoo, they are amazed how smooth the line work is.  Overall, I could not ask for a better experience.  Sure, it might take on month to get an appointment, but it is 100% worth it.  I would rather wait a month for this quality, than go somewhere the same day and sacrifice truly good work.  Stop reading, and book an appointment today.  You WON'T be disappointed! I just got an old tattoo I had gotten in Athens retouched by Mike and it looks AMAZING!! I'm so happy with the results. I went there this past week and got a cover up on my ribs. I must say its the best tattoo I have yet & AMAZING ART WORK. My tattoo artist was D Willy & he did the best work ever. I just gave him an idea of what I want and he went to work. It looks like its coming out of my skin & it has colors I wouldn't have thought to put in it. Most artists will do what you say to do & have no input but he put his own two cents in and made it outstanding. Everyone at the shop will work with you to make your experience great and your tattoo absolutely amazing. The shop is in a great location and its pretty cool too. Its very clean and they make sure it always is also. The tattoos aren't cheap but would you rather get a cheap and awful looking tattoo or a awesome tattoo people want to get too because it looks so good? This place is awesome. Sweet fun atmosphere and very very clean. The guys are all professional and very friendly. I got large owl on my back last June from Rev Dice. I gave him a general idea of what I wanted but left the design and size up to him. I'm so glad that I did! His work is stellar! His design was leaps and bounds above anything I could have dreamt up on my own. My suggestion is to let him work his magic. That being said, he is committed to making the customer happy and genuinly concerned with making sure the design is what you want. When I came in for my appointment he had the design ready in 3 different sizes to find the best one that fit my body shape. He was also very understanding when I felt sick and had to take a break. (A bit embarrassing I must admit, but shows his character and professionalism). I have a few tattoos, none from the same artist. I was eager to get my next piece, and decided to try out SBO this time. My artist was Mike. I met with Mike one Friday afternoon, and showed him what I was looking for. We scheduled an appointment for a later Friday afternoon to do the actual tattoo. It took a while (a LONG while) to get Mike's interpretation of my idea to jive with what I truly wanted, but he was great about working with me, and redrawing, and redrawing, and REDRAWING the piece until I was satisfied with the result. Mike never showed discouragement or frustration when he showed me his latest modification, and I told him to rework the design again. He really was patient and gracious. My actual tattoo is exactly what I wanted and expected. Mike's technique is unusually tolerable. I was not uncomfortable the entire time I was under the needle. His lines are flawless, the fill is without blemish, and the design itself is definitely *ME*. Incidentally, in the middle of our session, Mike confessed to me that I wasn't actually scheduled for the tattoo that evening. My appointment was supposed to have been only for finalizing the artwork, with the intention of scheduling the real tattoo appointment for a later date. The mistake was completely *MINE*, not his. And even though I did not have an actual appointment for the tattoo that night, he saw how eager I was to get my ink, and he accommodated me despite the fact that I wasn't booked for that evening. As with most things, you get what you pay for. That said, this place can be a little more expensive than most places, but the work is incredible. The staff is great, and they're all great artists. However, there are two things you should know. First, it might be a month before you can get on their schedule, and the second is if you don't like metal music, bring your iPod. I drove quite a distance from where I live to get to the shop. The atmosphere was far friendlier than any tattoo shop I've ever been to, and the work was excellent. D-Willy did a small memorial tattoo on my arm for my grandmother. I brought in a letter that she had written to me when I was about five with a heart that said Grandma plus Michelle with an arrow going through it. I had him tattoo this on me. I looks as if she drew it on my arm. It is one of my favorite tattoos. He did a great job. He is probably one of the nicest guys in the tattoo biz that you will ever meet. D-Willy at Sweet Baby Octane is worth every needle stroke! I spent years in Columbus admiring his craft on my friends. When the day came to get my half-sleeve he was very professional and creative in adapting my 2D drawn idea into a tattoo on a 3D surface. ME! DWilly also did two touch-up sessions for free on my shoulder where MY skin had trouble accepting the ink, now it looks fantastic. I now live in Seattle, where ink seems to be a state requirement. I get compliments on my work all the time. Even during an ink discussion at Pikes Market Place with a random admirer, they knew of Sweet Baby Octane.
