I've gotten all three of my tats here, and all of the employees are great and laid back; they make first tattoo experiences less stressful, and they thoroughly explain the tattooing and healing processes. I came in this past June very nervous for what I was going to do. I was on my first solo-trip to see one of my favorite bands 4 times in one week in a city over 7 hours away from my home. I knew I wanted a tattoo to commemorate this experience, and Fate Tattoo did not let me down. My artist was very kind, gave me exactly what I wanted, and helped me through the pain of getting a rib tattoo, being very patient through the few little breaks I needed. I had an awesome experience here! Ben was my artist and was so easy to work with. This was my first tattoo and I wanted my grandma's name on my wrist (Sylvia) and I wanted to incorporate shamrocks as being Irish is a big deal in my family! I came in for my consultation told him what I wanted and what I envisioned and paid the $60(which goes towards the final cost of the tattoo). When I came in for my appointment he had 10-12 designs for me to look at. He worked with me until ...he literally brought the vision in my head to fruition on my wrist!! Of my 6 tattoos, Ben Hatfield has done 3 of them. My first bigger tattoo was entrusted to him in design and delicate placement and while it hurt as much as I expected (chest, haha) it was the best decision ever! His designs are original and topnotch and I get compliments constantly when people see his tattoos! One of my favorite things about Ben's process is that, if a tattoo will take more than one session, he makes sure you're 'done enough' after the first session to not ...look half finished. His line work and shading is beautiful and his coloring, which I typically leave 100% up to him because of this, is very perfect. So I have been going to Brittany (Bee Sue) for a while now, and from the very first tattoo I knew she was the one to do my entire arm. I can give her a random thought or idea and she has the ability to somehow create exactly what I want out of a jumbled, unclear thought. This place is a den of magic and Nate Adams is a wizard. If  you are not getting tattooed here you probably have no soul. I personally go to Nate but all the artist are great. Nate is sweet sexy and has a huge.....love for tattooing. It shows in his work. I would let him tattoo any part of my body (I mean any). My friend and I got a tattoo here yesterday and we could not have asked for a better experience. Everyone was very friendly and the shop was very well maintained. Jack was our tattoo artist and even though we got something small and simple, he treated us very kindly. Jack was quick and his lines are off the charts clean. We will be back for sure! I am not the biggest fan of the campus area but it's well worth the drive. Parking is super easy as well. There are meters off the side and in front of the shop. One thing I will throw out there, make sure you have cash on hand if you pay with credit card. I went into Fate to get my first tattoo, after others recommended this shop. The guy that I scheduled the tattoo with in the first place double-booked over my appointment and gave me to another guy at the shop. I figured, with some reassurance from a friend who has plenty of tattoos and a few from Fate, that all of the guys there would be able to draw straight lines. Unfortunately, wrong. My tattoo is excessively sloppy--the letters aren't uniform, it's not filled in that well, and there are quite a few places where just--a straight line didn't happen. When I looked at his work later, it looks like he's just awful lines But most of all, it is EXTREMELY raised. Like, the most raised I've ever seen a tattoo, and that's honestly just unacceptable (I have others now that are pretty flush with my skin). I have to be ok with my tattoo because it's part of my body now, but I really feel like the guys at Fate took advantage of someone who was new to getting tattoos. Maybe not all the tattoo artists there are this unprofessional, but with all the great tattoo shops in Columbus, why even go here? Read Less

After going to another tattoo shop on campus, I was told that my idea wasn't feasible. They basically talked me out of an idea I had thought about for months. Instead of giving up, I walked a few blocks and stumbled upon Fate Tattoo and decided I would just go in and ask for a second opinion. From the moment I walked in the guys were so friendly and welcoming. They worked with me to come up with an option that I liked and had me in and out in less than an hour. Ok, first, the color thing? I have taken pictures of my work with no saturation tool and people have asked if it's real. The color is that impressive. I really don't think he upped the saturation, though I don't know. I doubt it though.I love the guys at Fate. I think they do awesome work. They are clean (I didn't realize anyone would ever have a problem with being a single use shop, but you learn new things every day). I feel like they aren't as judgmental as some other shops I've looked in. I really like that they aren't totally insane with the advertising bit. It's just a couple guys, doing good work, and letting that speak for itself. I have sat for both Jack and Chris (who left and only comes back every other weekend) and am pleased with both. If you do need a touch-up, they do that for free. I haven't sat for Ben, but his work looks good, too, and he's a nice dude in the waiting room. If they all upped and left for far corners of the world, I would probably be able to find someone else in Columbus that I liked, but until that happens, I have no reason to go anywhere else. I've been in over 30 times and haven't yet encountered a reason to not go back. In fact, when thinking of moving from Columbus, I get sad that it will be hard to find another shop where the guys are so funny, the work is so good, and the place is that clean. Read Less

The work that comes out of this place is actually pretty impressive. There are some artists here who are significantly stronger than others (Jack has spectacular use of color, though I hear he's heavy handed). Although I feel that someone went a little saturation tool photoshop happy in their gallery, I think that there's some really strong work there. There's also some work that I would refuse hands down, but that's a different story. My biggest qualm with this place is the fact that they're a new-only shop. What they do is only use brand new needles/etc on you. I actually don't entirely agree with this process. I have a rule about not trusting anything that hasn't been seen through an autoclave by the shop itself. I don't trust that its sterile just because what it comes in says that it is. That, however, is me being very nitpicky, and its something that a lot of people argue about. Most people aren't as....... enthusiastic about sterilization as I am. I come from a family of doctors and nurses, so i've been trained to be paranoid. It's important for me to note that they have scored with flying colors from the health department. Chris will rip you off and his work is less than average. He charges by the hour and words extremely slow because of it. I""ve seen pieces by him that other shops will knock out in maybe two hours and he'll take twice as long if not longer. Instead of coloring with wider needles to finish more quickly, he must use much smaller ones to run up your total. I""ve known several others that have been charged double what Chris quoted them. Example, and each case is the same, he'll quote $400. finish the first session and charge the total. After the second sitting, he charges the same amount again!! I've been tattooed by over 10 artists and he is by far the most shady of them all. I""ve seen linework by him, minus the color, that he's charged hundreds of dollars for and took him several hours. Other artists would line it under an hour and it would probably look better. Plus you'd have hundreds more in your pocket still. Never been tattooed by jack. He seems nice and his work looks alright. I've never heard anything bad about him, but Chris is giving that place a BAD name! Read Less
