This was my third tattoo but my first at Defining Skin.  This has been my BEST tattoo experience!  The place checks all the boxes: clean, welcoming, open, organized, etc.  on top of this, Sharon not only listened to what we wanted to get but explained the positives and negatives of the sizes and locations of our tattoos.  As far as the tattoo, she did a PHENOMENAL job!  I had a very challenging maze for her to do on my chest and she nailed it.  I am very happy with the result!  5 stars for sure.  I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to get a tattoo! My tattoos speak for themselves.  One I "designed" and Natalie totally brought it to life and second we collaborated.  It was her interpretation of a journal entry of mine and a picture I took while hiking in Utah.  She's UHmazingly talented.  I'm so grateful for her.  Planning the next already.  I don't mind waiting 3 months, 6 months or more for a session with her.  She's professional, her work is articulate and she's a super cool chik!! I received a tattoo from the artist Sharon and from the get go she was not the nicest towards us, she made me feel difficult for asking questions about the design. Then my brother and I got our small tattoos and loved the final product. But within a month they started to fade. I have had tattoos before so I know how to properly take care of them, so that they do not fade. It has now been about 6 months and they look awful. As of 2017-18 (SHOULD BE ONE OR ZERO STARS NOW - google wouldn't let me adjust starts...) UPDATE: Sometime shortly after my tattoo, he (Steve) moved or opened his own shop. Long story short: Since my tattoo wasn't totally completed, I contacted shop to schedule was told he moved, etc; tried to schedule w/new artist who referred me to him b/c no one wanted to do work after another artist. Called Steve several times at new shop, left messages on vm and texted him from number I had, etc. NEVER returned my call; I'm certain he remembers me after sitting in his chair on two different occasions for total EIGHT hours..so another artist from Defining Skin got in touch with him, relayed messages from him to me...I asked artist why he wasn't calling me back was just told he got my messages and that I should call him again..not sure why or what happened or why he couldn't take a moment to say he could/would not be able to finish it etc..but just want to recant my review of his service: Meanwhile..$800 later; Tattoo is still unfinished.. I would never use or refer him again to anyone or Defining Skin. Extremely disappointed especially since no other artists wants to continue work he started. Read Less

Just finished a piece with Will today, and had a great experience. The shop was super clean, and everyone working was friendly and welcoming. I can't say enough good things about Will. He had a great table-side manner, and is incredibly talented. He chatted with me throughout the entire tattoo about the techniques he was using, and was passionate about what he does. Got a tattoo here a few years ago from Mike. It was a wrist tattoo with two words and it looked good at first. A week later the first word was blown out and way thicker and the second word was perfect. I went in and had him layer over the second word. It still bugs me to this day because it doesn't look the way it was supposed to and I will be getting it removed. Wish I would have went somewhere more professional. Read Less

Cam was incredibly kind and patient with me. This was my first tattoo but I'm so impressed and pleased with it. He talked me through everything and by the time the needle hit my skin, my fear was gone. He gave detailed instructions on how to keep it clean, and I haven't had any problems with it at all. I really like the job that my tattoo artist Bailey did. Of course it was a semicolon so it is not that hard to do, probably could have done it myself. She was really nice and sweet. Plus an old college buddy I know works there and that is where my boyfriend got his awesome Morton salt lady tattoo by a guy named Morton and I love the work he did.The reason I give two stars is I totally felt I got ripped off of on the price. I checked around and most places said they would have charged 50 dollars at the most for my teeny tiny super easy semicolon. I was charged 100 dollars here. I felt like I should have said something at the time but I what was I gonna do? The tattoo was done and I was just a bit shocked. I thought at most 70... but no 100 dollars. AND it was my birthday for crying out loud. Most places offer a discount for that. And it was my first tattoo. A lot of places I looked into after the fact also offer a discount for that.I plan to have more work done but I doubt I could afford a place like this if a very very small and simple tattoo cost a hundred dollars. I feel very ripped off. It sucks to have any regrets about something you will have forever and I can't help looking at it and saying, "wow, a hundred dollars wasted" which really sucks. I really wish I would have shopped around first and saved a substantial amount of money almost any where else.I can't stress enough how nice she was and that she did a good job, just very upset about the amount. I did months of research leading up to my tattoo on who I wanted to do it and how I wanted it done. I may have freaked out Alex a little but on my knowledge of him and his tattoo history, but I'm glad I chose him. He did my first tattoo today and was able to joke with me for the entire 3 hours during which I was a nervous wreck. The shop was clean and everyone was kind. I'm not the easiest person to get along with when I'm in pain, and yet they all made me feel welcome. I love my tattoo and I recommend DefiningSkin but I more so recommend Alex Powell. Thank you! I came in as a walk in and was immediately impressed by how inviting the environment and staff are. I wanted to get my first tattoo as a tribute to a lost pregnancy which they were very empathetic about. I had a very specific image in my head of what I wanted but after some consultation from Carlos, I decided to go a slightly different route.. but it is more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. I had my paw print done here back in the spring and I absolutely loved how they were raising money for animals and how they took their time and actually cared about my tattoo specifically and didn't rush or anything. I have had 3 tattoos done by Nate in the last year and all 3 were excellent. Just told Nate what I wanted and he put his own artistic twist into it when he drew them up. Won't go any where else. All my other tats I have had done the tattoo artist never had any in put or suggestions of what would look good or not. Nate was honest and takes serious of what he tattoos, as he says "it's his work and his name is on it". I highly recommend Defining Skin for anybody. Honestly I had never considered getting anything done on my legs, but once I saw the thigh piece that Keith Miller (Kam) had drawn up, I fell in love with it. Nate is absolutely AMAZING!!! His precision, details, and original designs are phenomenal!! My husband and I have been trying to find a great tattoo studio and came across Nate's work. I first found this shop passing through Columbus on a road trip. I went to Nate for a quarter sleeve consisting of a lily and he did an amazing job. I get compliments on it constantly. Went to Defining Skin to schedule an appointment and the artist I booked with was moving to the Broad Street location. Got in within a weeks time & the new space is clean, bright and open. As to my tattoo artist, one word to describe Alex- perfection!   I had two tattoos done by him and he took my ideas and ran with them. I had a tattoo (infinity 'Love') placed on my foot and 3 Harry Potter inspired stars on my wrist and I couldn't be happier! The script is perfect, the size is just how I imagined, the coloring is spot on. If I need any more work done I'll definitely go back to Alex!! I highly recommend his work and Defining Skin! It's been about 7 years since my first tattoo and I decided it was finally time for more! I did some research on local tattoo shops and really liked the reviews on Yelp and Google for this place. You can go to their website and read bios and see work from all their artists. I decided to go with Sharon, so I called and talked to her on the phone. I made me $40 deposit online through PayPal and booked the appointment.The shop is very nice and clean. Sharon had the artwork for my tattoo ready for me to approve. I got two small tattoos (heart and Roman numeral date), so the whole process didn't take too long. She made me feel super comfortable and it was (relatively) painless :) I would definitely recommend this place! In fact, one of my friends already visited and got a tattoo. This place is awesome!!! Several friends from our church use this shop, and since we're new to the area we thought we would give them a try. We super in and Ryan told us for the kind of work we wanted, Sam was our man, so I called and spoke to him the next day, he had me email him our artwork so he could draw something up ahead of time. When we arrived for our appointment (slightly late because I forgot the original art work at home, ugh), he was ready to go with drawings. All we needed to do was figure out placement and size. He changed the flowers to blend in with my pre-existing tattoo and added his own touches by framing out my daughter's hand and foot prints.  we ended up using up his entire day (which we planned), and also stayed after the shop had closed as I had my entire forearm done. It was a long process, but the result is vibrant and beautiful. It's my favorite piece! My husband got our daughter's hand and foot and her name, and it's beautifully done. For both of ours he used the originals to make sure the prints look identical to what they actually are. It's still in the healing process but I've gotten many compliments already! Sam, and all of the shop employees are super friendly and very knowledgeable. Depending on the type of work you want they make sure you get the right person for the job, which goes a long way in my book. I'm super excited to have found a new guy to do our ink, and we will be returning to Sam for years to come. 5 stars all the way and remember to take care of your tattoo artist with pizza and coffee! Mike's tattoos are the best I have ever seen. I am constantly getting compliments on mine, and everyone says how incredibly detailed it is, and they are amazed at good it looks. The best part is he is great to talk to too. This shop has the friendliest atmosphere I have ever seen in a tattoo shop.
