I love tattoos! Okay, now that I got that off my chest...let's talk about my favorite artist! Shawna McCarthy is a very talented woman, when it comes to creating anything floral or nature related. She does beautiful color tattoos; photo realism, watercolor, etc. With just an outline to work from, Shawna created a very special memorial piece for me. The new outline, leaves and vibrant colors are fabulous. One day we may add green lace! Every time I look in the mirror, I stare ...at my tattoo in awe. My third tattoo, an in-progress garter looks great so far, was done completely by Shawna. The wild roses, blue rose and gardenia look so realistic, I'm starting to feel like a faerie! All we need to do is add some more purple lace, and it will be gorgeous! Next week Shawna is adding color, lace and seaweed to my current shell piece (which Mike did a few years ago). Second of all, I want to thank Mike. I love how real it looks, in black and grey alone! I recommend Mike as well, if you want realistic or portrait tats! Though, I bet he is capable of many styles :) I know my shell will look pretty awesome with the add-ons too! Many times when I've walked into a tattoo/piercing shop, I've felt like I'm being judged instantly—like I'm not "cool" enough to be there. I have NEVER felt like that at West Anchor. Mike has done all of my tattoos with the exception of one, which he later ended up improving for me, so after being there several times, I've decided I will never go anywhere else. Mike really works with you to design the custom tattoo you want. He has always made me comfortable by chatting during the session, and he's very understanding of my need to take relatively frequent breaks (I have a pretty low pain tolerance haha). I've had about eight tattoos done at this shop, mostly through Carl, and a couple by Nathan, Dustin, and Shawna. They're all extremely professional and the quality of each tattoo doesn't fade. I asked Shawna for a pink peony on my back. What I got was the most awful looking "flower" I've ever seen. I was devastated and embarrassed and left the shop absolutely crushed. It was a tattoo to commemorate my upcoming wedding. So, for my wedding in May, I had this pink blob on my back, which was one big scab. She completely butchered me. Needless to say, my husband just paid for a cover-up last week and I can again show my back and not be embarrassed. I've read the other reviews and it sounds like every other person is reputable there but I would run if that girl tried to work on you. Read Less
