I try and go to different tattoo parlors for the experience and unique talents of the different artists. HOWEVER, I went here today on a walk in I didn't wait at all I was greeted by Douglas who drew up and ultimately did my tattoo which was just briefly described to him. Doug did beyond an awesome job at drawing up exactly what I wanted. It's gets better, Doug was very quick, extremely helpful and the price of the tattoo was the most reasonable out of any multidude of shops I've been to. I have been to many tattoo shops and this is one of my favorites. Since I decided to get a tattoo last minute while I was in Cleveland, I was glad that they accepted walk-ins. I was lucky that Eric had some time to do a small bow and arrow that my friend picked out. That was the first time though that I ever had an artist not take the picture and decide to draw their own version of it. I've gotten a few tattoos over the years, but the one I had done the other day by gifted and talented artist, Lauren, is one of the most BEAUTIFUL and MEANINGFUL to me. Frankly, she's a genius!! I got my first tattoo done here the month after I turned 18 3 years ago. It was a great experience. Sean was my artist who turned a couple of pictures I showed him into a beautiful piece of art on my back! Before coming I looked at all the artists work that they had online and it was impossible to pick which one I wanted to get tattooed by because all of there work looked great! They are on the expensive side but if you want quality work on something that is going to be on your body for the rest of your life it is totally worth it!! Not at all professional, courteous and caring. I went in for as a walk in. I was told at 2:30 that they could get me in at 3:30 and to come back at 4 (no guns in the shop running). I came back at 4:00. I was told at 4 it was going to be another hour (still no guns running and no art being worked on by the artist going to give me my tattoo). I was asked then if I had a design. "Yup, have something really simple. Here it is". So, I wait until 5. Then I'm told at 5 another hour. (No guns running). Now it's 6. I politely go up to the front and ask if it's going to be much longer or if we should just plan on another time and I can make an appointment. The girl rolls her eyes at me and the guy in the first booth looks at me (his gun is finally running (after 3 hours and doing nothing during that time (yes, I watched) and says rudely, "you wouldn't want me to rush through yours would ya. I'll get to you when I get to you!". She says (after the eye roll), "why don't you just sit back down and be patient and I'll call you when it's your turn". Pretentious. Rude. I got a tattoo recently (more than 6 months). It has faded (yes I know they fade over time). The lines have blended together. However, the worst part is, it itches (not itching because it's healing- burning/itching). I have to be seen by my doctor. I'm freaked out. Not only was the line work jittery, it fades (most likely he did not go as deep as he needed to). And it's itching (and no, not the normal time it takes to heal and scab).... This post recieved 5 stars mostly because of Eric the tatooist. He tattoos both my wife and I, he is artistic , great listener but a straight shooter. LOVE IT! While tattooing he puts you at ease with conversations and really tries to build a rapport with you. One time he scheduled my wife and I for one full work day (8 hrs) he did my sleeve and my wife's half sleeve...he was completely motivated the entire time!I will definitely continue to go to voodoo monkey as long as Eric works there. I couldn't be happier or recommend Lauren any more. Tattoo styles really vary from artist to artist and it is hard to tell every single person reading a review to go see a certain artist. But I can say that anything I have seen from Lauren has been fantastic and she really seems to excel at black and grey work. We consulted via email about what I would like with my vague ideas and when I walked into the shop on appointment day, the drawing was perfect! The shop itself is clean and industrial and I liked the vibe inside. There was some weird playlist that was going from metal to 80's to today's hits and it oddly enough caught my attention enough to make the time pass faster!I get compliments on my tattoo all the time and am more than happy to refer them to the shop. I've been there two times and Sean did both of my tattoos. He did brilliant work. You can either bring your own picture or let the artist make some changes to it. Sean gave really helpful advice on my tattoo and I fully trusted him. It recovered in only ten days and I definitely love it. Natalie designed my upper back piece  and she got the picture in my head spot on after our meeting. Her fine art background shines in her work. I scheduled a consult, which I recommend anyone doing over conversing via email. As, for them, those consults rarely come to fruition and they are very busy. Take the time, schedule an appointment to discuss your artwork with the artist. It took a little bit to get in, but it is well worth the wait. She has a light hand and communicates well throughout the session. She also has finished my friend's sleeve and if I hadn't already had work by her, I would recommend her solely on that work. Cost me $170.Now. On to the shop and artists.The shop is top of the line.Clean, airy and comfortable.They set the bar as far as cleanliness and you'd be hard pressed to find a spec of dirt.Outstanding sanitary habits are exercised by all artists.This is what makes them Channel 8's featured shop. They have been on Channel 8s morning show more than once. The station is not going to feature a shit hole.The line up of artists doesn't change. Many shops are revolving doors of artists but not here. Tried and true talent.I have had work done mainly by Sean but my first piece was done by Eric.personable and creative Eric is a wonderful artist!!Now for Sean Jaundice.I  have about 12 pieces done by Sean and all are absolutely perfect!!Clever, witty and creative Sean is the man!! His work is exquisite with so much attention too detail. He wouldn't put anything on you he wouldn't wear and that is the mark of a great artist.If you go to Sean and he gives u input on a design idea for Gods sake listen to him!! He knows his shit and wont steer you wrong. I've read a lot of positive things about voodoo monkey, so I decided to give them a try for my next tattoo. I emailed one of the owners and he was quite short with me and didn't really answer my questions.I don't like to base my opinion off of one person so I contacted another artist there, John. I emailed him in November, I've been up to the shop, he said he would have my sketch ready multiple times; it is now February and I still don't even have a sketch. I called at least three times and was told that he'd call me back and he hasn't. I happened to reach him once via phone because I called while he was there. I don't quite know what happened, but this is beyond sad!I expected a high level of customer service, or at least a response, especially from a place that's made the Cleveland hotlist. I can't speak on their art work because I never got the chance to get what I contacted them for.I will never go back to voodoo monkey and would not recommend that anyone go there either, if they asked me. I went to Sean to get my tattoo and wasn't disappointed. I love my tattoo, I got lines of text on my forearm, it is super clean, looks like it was printed straight on my arm. I got it done almost a week ago and have gotten tons of compliments even as it's healing. Sean was nice and made the whole tattooing experience really comfortable. Extremely clean studio, very professional staff.  The artist did a great job explaining the process and was very patient with the designs.  She ended up doing 4 different drawings for me and did not pressure me to just take what she drew but worked with me to get it just right.  It turned out perfectly, better than I'd even imagined.  Will go back. I wanted a tattoo over a burn scar I got some years ago. They were very nice in giving me my options, and looked at my sketch to see what they could do, how big it had to be, etc. Their schedule was pretty full, but somehow they fit me in the next day for Eric. The next day, I received a call that Eric got very sick, so they wanted me to come in a little earlier and get it done by Doug. I appreciated the call letting me know what was up.Although I got there when they told me to, Doug still didn't get there until my original appointment time (another hour later) but it was fine for me because I didn't eat yet. When he got there, he took my idea and started sketching. It didn't come out exactly how I wanted it, because he took out some features that he didn't think were necessary, like my Grandmother's name. Lucky for me later though, I remembered that my grandmother HATED tattoos and probably would've been mad.When he got the design down and made a stencil, it didn't cover the whole scar but it got the important parts. His booth was clean and cool and he was very nice to me. He did change his mind about some colors that he initially thought my darker skin wouldn't take, but when he mixed it, it came out nice.All in all, I would go to this place again. I just didn't like the misinformation about who was doing my tatt or when to come in. UPDATE:I went back here 2 years later for my second tattoo and finally worked with eric...he's the best! He was the ONLY artist I could find that took what I wanted seriously and made it epic! The colors he chose to use went well with my skin and he's super friendly! I told my bf to go to him, and he's gone to him twice already for a half-sleeve! He's going to do my half-sleeve too..you give him a tiny idea and he can make anything out of it. Highly recommended!Only thing I would be wary of though, is that I've noticed ALL the artists there try very hard to talk people out of their ideas. I realize that they are just making sure you actually want it, but there's a line between a small suggestion and completely trying to change your idea. the people there are friendly and if u r nervous they calm u down. i recently just got my 1st tattoo and i got it done there a couple of my friends that have tattoos told me that they went too deep and thats why my tattoo looks the way it does it is still in the healing process but i can already tell that there r places i'm gonna have 2 get re-done if u want ur tat 2 look nice i don't really recommened them.
