For my 18th birthday my mom and I decided to get a tattoo that meant something to both of us. We finally decided on an idea that we both liked and decided to go get it done nearby in Dayton after asking around and talking to different people we found out that this is apparently the best place to get tattooed in the area (and some even say in the state). We emailed the business about a week before hand (they are usually extremely extremely booked up)  and were told to come in and they might have an opening that day. When we walked in we were greeted by a very pretty nice woman with the cutest pink hair. She was super sweet and told us that she has an appointment but the guy is notorious for no showing so to stick around and she might be able to get us tattooed. As we were waiting we were looking through books of the other artists that worked there (Mike and Travis I think?) and they had some amazing incredible work in those books. The guy ended up not coming so she lead us to a very clean Pink room on the lower level. The environment was super nice and clean. There was artwork that Brooke, our tattoo artist had made and just pictures of the things that she liked on the wall it had a great aura and feel about it. She cleaned the bench and put on music for us to listen to while she was working and it was great. She was super nice during the whole thing and really funny. We learned that she's a fairly new tattoo artist and the tattoos came out great. They are still healing but are healing fairly nicely. She informed us of how to clean and care for them and if they need touched up after they heal we can come in and get it touched up for free. It's been about a month since we have gotten tattooed and both of ours are healing super great with only a little spot or two that looks lighter than the rest, but we do still have more time to heal. My teenage daughter wanted a piercing on the top of her ear. I wanted a professional instead of a teenager at a mall piercing shop. We went to Monkey Bones and Roz was amazing!!!! He was so kind and professional. Not only was the piercing not very painful, the aftercare was perfect! It never got inflamed or irritated. He stands behind his work 100%! This place is the real deal. I was able to get in within a few weeks and Mike knocked out a massive piece on my chest in just a few hours. I've been tattooed by several people in multiple states (including several shops in Dayton) and this guy is by far the best I've seen. I went here to get my nose pierced - I didn't have an appointment or anything and when I walked in the girl at the front just stared at me.  I explained why I was there and she said, "the piercing guy doesn't come in until 4:30" and stared at me some more.  I came back and that time when I walked in she was looking at a book of tattoo art and didn't even look up to acknowledge I was there.  Luckily, Rozz the piercing guy came out and helped me and he was really cool.   I was surprised by how little it hurt (I mean don't get me wrong, it really hurt, but it really felt no different than an ear piercing) and I was reassured by the fact that he said I can call and check with him to make sure the way that it's healing is normal.   I ended up going back two days later because it was scabbing kinda funny (I guess I snagged it in my sleep) and he cleaned it up for me, and it's been healing really well since.+ you can tip on a credit card Read Less

I cannot say enough positive things about my experience at Monkey Bones!  I have two other tattoos, both of which I had done at the same place in Florida, so I thought the experience I had at the previous tattoo place was what they were all like.  Boy was I wrong.  I called ahead to inquire about myself and a friend coming in to get tattoos together and they suggested we come in to show them what we each wanted, get a quote, and make an appointment, as they were pretty booked.  We went in one evening and were pleasantly surprised to find they had a cancellation that evening and could do our tattoos right then.  While the tattoos were being drawn up, the guy who does the piercings came out, sat down, and chatted with us.  He was hilarious and we really enjoyed chatting with him.  Mike is who worked with us, and he was so patient with us making adjustments to the images, making sure they were exactly how we wanted them.  He was amazing.  At the place I got my previous tattoos, I felt very unwelcome because I didn't fit with the typical patrons in the shop since I'm not visibly tatted up or pierced.  Not the case here.  Mike was so personable and he made the whole experience as comfortable as possible.  Talking to him was like talking to someone you've known for years.  Our tattoos came out FANTASTIC; the one I had done is easily my favorite out of all three I have.  I'm already itching to get another tattoo and I will most certainly be having it done here at Monkey Bones.  I thought the prices were reasonable and on par for the quality of work and the place itself was clean and welcoming.  I would highly recommend Monkey Bones! I'm not much of a body art person. I hate piercings and I do not have any tattoos. However, I really enjoyed going to Monkey Bones alongside my friend who was getting a tattoo. The artists were really cool and laid back, and while my friend was getting his tattoo done, the artist turned on a movie. He made the entire experience comfortable and fun, which helped because I'm really out of place in a tattoo parlor so it helped to be distracted with a movie. When my friend was finished, he gave specific directions on how to care for the new tattoo and seemed very pleased with his work.  As for the results of the tattoo, I was impressed. My friend had a very abstract design idea and I wasn't even sure it was doable. But the artist managed to make it work, and the tattoo is gorgeous! It almost made me consider a tattoo. Almost. Can't believe nobody's reviewed Monkey Bones yet!!I've been here a number of times for a few piercings and a tattoo, as well as a bunch of friends' tattoos/piercings... I love to watch :). I do have one piercing that was done at another shop, but that was only because it was in much closer proximity at the time- I should've gone to Monkey Bones though.It's always such a fun experience to go get piercings! Their piercer is a great guy, very sanitary and all that jazz. And since he's pierced me and my friends many times I always feel much more at ease because I've grown to trust this guy with shoving long sharp needles in my body. Also, if you have problems with your piercing afterwards you can go in for advice and he'll even change your jewelry for free after your piercing is healed up.I was also tatted here once by Spyder; I went in with a printout of what I wanted so he didn't actually draw anything up for me, but he was also a great guy and fun to talk to, he even put up with me being picky about everything, which I appreciated. The tattoo in the end looked great and he even gave me free packets of ointment to put on it which I thought was pretty rad.Their pricings for everything aren't too bad at all but make sure you remember to tip!! I'm a big fan of this place and I plan to stay loyal to it for the rest of my future tattoos/piercings that I plan to get. :) Read Less

Monkey bones is far from being the best tattoo shop in Dayton. Went to appointments several times just to find out Mike was a no show. Finally got my tattoo finished to have him refuse to do the touch up. Had to pay Glen Scott to do a good touch up. I've been to alot of shops, including smart bomb, truth and triumphant (full of racist ), blue Byrd, and oasis to name a few. not only are the guys at monkey bones very humble about what they do I'd say there work is superior in quality and way cheaper than the others listed. I've seen more than few bad reviews about jim Collins and andy Blair at monkey bones but when i went there last I'm not sure if they have been fired or just quit, but definitely not there anymore. i was tattooed by travis and will be going back to him for all my work and so will my family.
