I could write a novel about how much I love Artfuel, the owner Sarah Peacock, Matt and the rest of the talented artists here. First of all, the photos on this page are of Artfuel's old location. The new Artfuel is off of Wrightsville Avenue and is absolutely GORGEOUS. High ceilings, art everywhere, hardwood floors, open spaces- super relaxing and creative atmosphere. Now for the story: My 20-year-old brother was hit and killed by a drunk driver in Hawaii a year and a half ago while he was riding his bike at 7 a.m. on a sunny Wednesday morning. It was a hit and run. Needless to say, my family was/is completely broken over the loss of Brody. A couple of weeks after he died, I woke up with an extreme sense of urgency and desire to commemorate his memory. I come from a traditional family and although I had always wanted a tattoo, fear of my parents' wrath kept me from ever following through. However, when I came down the stairs that morning in a slight panic over needing Brody's name engraved on my body, my mom simply looked at me and said, "I want that too. Let's go." So, I carried my pajama-clad mom and grabbed my 19 year-old sister in to the car to begin our search for a tattoo shop. We had no idea what we were going to get at that point and no idea where we were going to go, but we all knew that we wanted his name (his signature pulled from his driver's license) on our bodies in some way. After a failed first shop attempt, we were feeling disheartened. Then, we pulled up to a stoplight. On the car next to us was a bumper sticker that read, "Artfuel, Inc." My mom, who doesn't believe in coincidence, asked, "I wonder if that's a tattoo shop." Sure enough, mom was right. We gave Artfuel a call and told them our story. Even with a completely booked schedule, the artists told us to come by for our first consultation. The rest is history. We all fell in love the moment we walked through Arfuel's doors. The artists were gracious and gentle and listened to every detail of what we wanted. Sarah tattooed my mom a week later and allowed her to tell story after story of Brody while she finished her work. My sister and I followed two weeks later with Matt and Sam. They were just as welcoming and gracious. Since then, both my mom and I have been back to get our second tattoos. Quality oozes out of Artfuel's artists.I will never go anywhere else. I could not be more thankful for this incredible group of people. For those wishing to be tattooed in a soothing, professional environment with people that will listen to exactly what you want- this is THE spot. Read Less
