Just WOW! I had an appointment for a coverup tattoo with Scott Denhalter, and after some talking he convinced me to not go with my original idea I had, and gave me a bunch of options he said he could work with that he thought I would like better than my idea. He was SO 100% SPOT ON! He did an AMAZING job, was very thoughtful and for the amount of detail put into my new ink, he was pretty quick at getting it done. I saw Shaun to get a massive leg piece done. He did a fantastic job at a reasonable price and made sure I was comfortable through the whole experience. I got my very first tattoo at Blue Flame many years ago when it was located on Hillsborough. I decided to go back to inquire about a cover-up for a different tattoo. I was not greeted when I walked in...just unfriendly stares from a group standing at the counter. I said hello and described what I was looking for. Showed my tattoo and was told that my tattoo is trash and too dark to be covered. I need to look into getting laser treatments to make it lighter...said the main dude. Fabulous! Christy is a pro from A to Z. Super talented , well-organized. Confident and cool as all get out. The dudes up front might consider keeping their extreme belching to themselves. I happened upon Blue Flame by a friends recommendation back in 2009-ish. I loved my experience there and have been back for work three times since, and taken my husband in for work. They take time here to consider your art, your budget and what would look best on you. I work at a spa and know what State Board looks for in sanitation and BF is top notch! I came in with Trust thyself and they refused to do it after I have gotten at least three other pieces from here. All of which are pretty good with clean lines but they are spotty and I am terrified to go in and ask for a touchup. I don't know what is with the attitude here. I really wanted to like my experience there. The store looks amazing, the people at the front desk were great, friendly, sweet. I do like my tattoo - its just what I wanted and he did a good job - but maybe its because I'm a middle-aged mom, not a hot young chick, but the person doing my tattoo barely acknowledged my presence the entire time I was there. It was really awkward!. I had to go back to get it touched up a bit since the color was spotty after healing and it was the same situation! He was pleasant enough when he greeted me, but barely spoke to me while working and really didn't fix the color correctly. Its like he couldn't wait to be finished. I'd go again but definitely get another artist. I've read the reviews, and others seem to really like him, so I'll just chalk it up to him being age-ist. I just had my nose pierced at blue flame yesterday. Jason was my piercer and he did an excellent job. He walked through all of the steps of aftercare with my mom and I before he pierced me. We had to wait a little while but it was worth it. He has answered so many of my questions through email and has been very understading with me through the whole process. The shop looks great. It is very clean with private rooms and it is very stylish looking. I would definantly reccomend Jason for any piercings. If I ever get another I will definantly go back to him. Thanks blue flame! This studio is one of the cleanest places I have ever seen. When you walk in you are helped right away, the desk people can answer any questions you have right off the bat. What I liked was that the artists don't seem like you are wasting their time, they pay full attention to you, and try to understand what you are looking for, instead of sending you to the flash books for ideas. I don't know were some of the other reviewers went but it could not have been Blue Flame. The have been friendlily, helpful and knowledgeable. I went in after having a bad experience and was a little nervous. I went in yesterday and spoke to Ashley. I told her that my bar was too long and I wanted to change it out. She was very understanding and said the the length of the bar I had was excessive. I told her I was going to come back to see about some more piercings. Well I went back today and talk to Jason who is sweet and loves piercing as much as I love getting pierced. So basically this is the place to go if you want the most detailed tattoos ever, they are totally gorgeous and catch everyone's eye. You will get comments from everyone on how awesome your tattoo looks. Not to mention the piercings are the best, they will not mess up and are totally sterile. Plus you won't leave the place without being told at least twice how to clean your tattoo or piercing, as well as a sheet telling you, in detail, everything they just told you. Blue Flame Tattoo not only has an amazing store front, but their customer service is amazing. While some complain of high prices, you pay for quality, and the artists (both piercers and tattoo artists) at Blue Flame take sanitary to the extremes. I received my first tattoo there a few months ago and I was blown away by how amazing the level of skill and artistry my artist had. I couldn't have asked for a more phenomenal piece of work on my body and I am honored to say i will wear it for the rest of my life. My piercer, Jason, has always been more than personable. He is extremely knowledgable and friendly. He is very accomodating and he is always more than willing to talk to you. Blue Flame by no means deserves a bad reputation. I'll admit it, I don't look like your average customer to be lingering in a tattoo shop, but it is amazing what clothes can hide. I was in the market for a large 'piece' and I was not even acknowledged when I came in. They wouldn't even make eye contact let alone get up or speak. After breaking up their conversation so I could ask a few questions, I was completely blown off. Got the same treatment when I went back with my husband. It's a shame for them, I got my piece done in Raleigh and know that BF could hold a candle to the service, artistic experience and price I received elsewhere.Read Less

I have recently completed a half sleeve with Koi and flowers, color on Black/Grey that took 4 sessions and about 7 hrs total. I am insanely satisfied with every aspect of my experience. This was my 1st tattoo and I wanted to go big. From talking with Errol over the designs, the outline, the shading, the color, the touch ups, it has been NOTHING but awesome. His artwork and patience is amazing. I've had friends that have gone elsewhere and are saying, ""That's it. No more."" They had a crappy go with it. Well, I want more, and am already looking at other designs. Simply put, the quality of work and personality of everyone in that shop is absolutely wonderful. Even people at the desk just conversing when you're on a break. The shop itself is top notch, professional, cool, and damn even the bathrooms are clean! I got my first tattoo at the Blue Flame, from Ray. When I went into the shop the first time to inquire about getting a tattoo, the first guy I talked to was kind of rude, for whatever reason. The second guy I talked to was Ray, and as it turned out, his portfolio was also my favorite. Ray was great. It was a simple tattoo, but colorful, and I trusted him to make sure it was better than I could have imagined on my own. He did a lovely job, and he was a very personable guy. Later, he gave me a touch up and the tattoo looked better than ever. Despite the rudeness of the first person I talked to, I still classify the Blue Flame as five stars. Several of my friends have gotten work done there by other artists (Christy and Mark), and it's always been wonderful. Many different kinds of people were coming in out of the shop the couple of times I was in there, and none of them appeared to be receiving poor treatment based on arbitrary social distinctions. I spent hours reading these online reviews before going to Blue Flame to get my first tattoo. The staff was very helpful (no problem with customer service) and my artist, Ray, made several changes I requested to the design. He was very nice, professional, and explained step-by-step everything he was doing. My tattoo cost less than I expected, the service was way better than I expected, my tattoo looks better than I expected (and hurt much less than I expected!) If you are a cute young girl, your experience will probably be good and they will ink whatever you want no matter how terrible. If you are a male who is not covered head to toe in tattoos already however, they will treat you like total garbage. Very pretentious, rude, and condescending. i went went to blue flame for my virgin tattoo i had a idea of what i wanted so i went up there and talked to christy and she was really friendly and took my idea and made it 200 times better. i walked in and someone came right up and started talking to me. nothing is wrong with my tattoo overall i had a great time and my tatoo came out better that what i had hoped for. the only bad thing i can say is that she made me pay for the tattoo before i got it and she forgot to ask for I.D. but lucky for her i just had turned 18!!! Like you, I read reviews before deciding where to go in the triangle to get inked. I also looked at websites, and decided that several Blue Flame artists were doing imaginative, original work that didn't all look like what you'd expect to see on the shoulder of someone's biker dad. (Nothing against biker dads in general, I just didn't want to end up looking like one myself - but I'm sure if that's what *you* want, your needs would be well met at Blue Flame also; my point being, you can expect versatility.) So I went to the shop with a drawing, and was immediately told what was wrong with it. More than anything, I was embarrassed for not considering the technical limitations of putting ink into skin with relation to fine line drawing, but that's besides the point. I was happy to be given sound, to the point advice. I came back a couple weeks later with a few rough sketches and yielded artistic control to Christy. Turned out to be a very, very good decision.
