My family and I went here my parents did the sand art picture frame, my son did the sand art seashell and my niece got a henna. We loved the sand art although some pieces fell off once we unwrapped them.. still a nice and fun keepsake. My niece wasn't happy with her henna, it wasn't drawn on very well some thicker and thinner lining and started fading quickly. Overall cool place to go. Read Less

Kid's activities. We heard about his place from other locals and wanted to check it out. It was quite a hoping spot. Our friends kids made sand art, the girls got braids, and the boys got henna tattoos. Of course the older girls, being us, got color changing nail polish. Really cool. Kids Activities at Life on a Sandbar is a must. Sand Art is so much fun. You can do fish, mermaids, even stepping stones and much else. There are tattoos in color airbrush and henna style. Not impressed. We decided to make sand imprints for $20 each, which was supposed to be a activity for kids but fell short.  The owner asked my kids to pick 20 shells, place them in the sand, and then told us to come back in an hour to pick up our artwork.   The part of the activity my kids got to do took less than 5 minutes and wasn't entertaining at all.  The manager really did most of the work, by mixing and pouring the plaster, adding the hooks, and letting it set.  How is this an activity for kids when you send the, away while you do all the work?!?! Del Sol and Disney products. Quality hair breading and fun activities with the kids that bring home memories for years to come. The quality of clothing, which change colors when exposed to the sun (how fun is that!!) is as expected from Del Sol and Disney. I purchased color changing nail polish and my nails have never looked better (my husband thought I had them done professionally). I also got some jewelry which is very reasonably priced. If you are looking for a gift for yourself or a friend you will find it there. It is worth a visit for sure. Loved the store and the fun and helpful staff. I was surprised by the diversity of items. I was really looking forward to getting a hair wrap, henna, and creating some sand art on my first OBX vacation. Yelp and Trip Advisor both had the hours listed as 9pm today. I pulled up at 5 and the staff was locking up and leaving. I was so disappointed - it was the one touristy thing I wanted to do and I saved it for our last day here. We love this place for kids and teens! Nifty del sol tee shirts in different styles and sizes, great casual jewelry for the girls and older one.  My 9 and 12 year olds are endlessly fascinated here - a great place to take them anytime, but especially on late afternoons and before the beach mornings. This shop is so much fun! The owner was working and was having a blast showing us all their great, sun reactive, product.This is great stuff for playing in the beach sun. From t-shirts to nail polish, to flip flops and keychains you couldn't ask for a better place to find a unique gift to take back home to friends or co-workers!It's great location and friendly-fun atmosphere will make this the first stop in town and last on the way out. Well I have learned my lesson. Means a friend visited life on the sandbar so I could get corn rows and she wanted a feather in her hair. We got there, waited for 15 minutes while the manager did absolutely NOTHING then we both paid the outrageous prices and waited half an hour until the manager finally looked up from her computer and completed the 5 minute task of putting a feather in me friends hair. But I still had to get me corn rows, and apparently the manager is incapable of doing 4 cornrows. If she can't do something that simple she doesn't need to be a manager. Then 4 days later my friend and I returned for henna tattoos in hopes of improvement, we waited 30 minutes again after paying and we were given specific instructions which we followed exactly, we let the tattoos dry and didn't peel them off for 5 hours and didn't get them wet for 24 hours. Three days later, the henna tattoo that I paid $30 for is barely visible and my friend's looks like a really weird tan line. Read Less
