This place was great. I had my nose pierced. This place is pretty far from where I live and I communicated with them to let them know I was going to be late and they were pretty cool about it. I had an amazing experience here at Vertigo tattoos! My cousin and I wanted to get our nose pierced together, we had Mark and he was awesome! I asked a bunch of questions and he was able to answer all of them with detail. I did get my septum pierced and he was explaining the cartilage and nerves in that area because I was nervous! He did an amazing job, everything was done sterile. The only thing that was a bummer is that I could not go with my cousin to get hers done and she could not be with me because of state rules. I highly recommend coming here! Dave did a piece on my back yesterday and I'm absolutely in love with it. We gave him a picture of what I wanted and a couple days later went in to get it and he had the original and a slightly modified version and his was a lot better than the original. My friend and I were in on Friday while on vacation in OBX. While I love my tattoo of an arrow on my leg, I couldn't help but feel like I was an inconvenience because all I wanted was a small tattoo... Also, I'm not sure if my artist realized I had several tattoos already and figured I know how to care for my tattoos after or what but he didn't go over aftercare with me at all. The shop is filled wall to wall with amazing historical pictures of Tattooers and a great selection of flash. This was my third tattoo and first time I have been to Vertigo Tattoo. Brad and I were e-mailing each other back and forth about what exactly I was looking for. He took the time asking me certain questions about what I was looking for and he was spot on! We made a few tweaks on the outline and he took the time to make sure where I wanted it on my side ribs. Really awesome staff. They are talented and dedicated artists who clearly want to devote time and attention to the process of creating a high quality tattoo with you. But that, my friends, is not what I asked them for. Myself and two other friends got spur of the moment tats, and I asked for one on my butt. I felt really bad disrespecting the artistic process that these guys truly deserve. But they were really really professional and accommodating, and made us feel comfortable the whole way through. I did a bunch of research on my tattoo, but I hadn't found a parlor in which I felt comfortable, and for a hip tattoo I think comfort with your artist is pretty important. The location is an awesome renovated Victorian house, they were very cleanly and I felt comfortable. I got my tattoo in 2010 and it still looks fantastic. Great experience overall. Read Less

My best friend and I stopped here on our way out of OBX on a whim to get matching beach tattoos. I read a review that Vertigo is expensive, so we were weary; however, we realized that it's one of only two (?) tattoo shops in the area. We called and learned that the shop minimum is only $40 and were pleasantly surprised--very cheap for what we are used to at home (northern VA). We went in and it was packed, and initially doubted we'd get seen that day. But we were seen maybe half an hour later. The receptionist (blue hair female, septum piercing) was extremely friendly and helpful. The shop is very clean and attractive. The only drawback for me was its size; normally a friend can go in with you when you're getting inked or pierced (in my experience) but there simply isn't space there for that. Both my friend and I were inked by Jim, who was very professional and accommodating. The process was fast and thorough, as the tattoos we received are pretty small. I didn't expect to have them filled in, but rather just an outline for so cheap. Once again, pleasantly surprised. Jim did a beautiful job on both of us. Went here with the wife to get matching tattoos to commemorate our vacation down here. The shop itself was insanely clean and had a great vibe (especially with the big ass awesome scary spider that decided to nest on the tree near the house). The artists are all very friendly and do great work. The prices are a bit more than what I am used to, but considering it's one of the only shops in the area and it's near such a tourist spot, it makes sense.
