Worst place I've EVER been. I have 7 other tattoos and none of them have ever gotten infected and the WHOLE tattoo turn into a thick scab. I used aquatat the first two days and it bubbled up and started pussing ink. I stopped putting stuff on it and it scabbed up. Now it's cracking up. (Pics below) I went by today to ask for a refund and I was told "what I do to it, they aren't responsible". I will never go back or recommend this shop. Very upset. Read Less

This is a great shop in downtown Greensboro. The shop is very clean and has a great interior decor which compliments the historic buildings exterior. The artist that I utilize is Jason. He is an outstanding artist, very detail oriented and a real pro. I entrusted Jason to tattoo both forearms in tribute to my 20 year military career. Tried and True tattoos via appointment only. All of the staff at Tried and True are amazing! My artist Kayla did an amazing job with my tattoos (I have gotten 3 from her) and I would highly recommend her to anyone that asked! First let me start by saying that the majority of artists at this shop are friendly & professional. Extremely clean environment & the owner & shop have won many awards. Wonderful artwork!The reason I am giving this rating is because of the experiences I have had with one of the main artists. My boyfriend went to Maddie last year because we were very impressed with her work. His tattoo took around 4 hours & it looked great. However, she was not friendly towards me while I was watching him have it done.Recently, my boyfriend & I went back for a full day session, which we were to split. She quoted him 4 hours for his coverup & less than 3 for mine. I showed up after he had been there for almost 4 hours. She continued tattooing him for almost 3 more hours. Towards the end of those 7 hours, she finally acknowledged me & spoke to me for the first time since I had been there & asked what I wanted for my tattoo. I told her I didn't think we would have time & that it was ok, I could book another session. She continued telling me that she would have time to do it. When she sat down to sketch my tattoo, we had about 45 minutes left of our "full day." She cut me off every time I wanted to share my ideas & from the beginning, shot down any ideas that I had. She kept pushing & hurrying me so I finally showed her a picture of something similar to what I wanted & told her which colors to use. When I laid down & she started tattooing me, it took less than 20 minutes. She told me to go look in the mirror & where it is located it was hard for me to see. When I went back into her room she was already cleaning up. She slapped a bandage on me & rushed us out the door. She had a big vacation planned the next day.It wasn't until I got home & my boyfriend took a picture that I realized how bad this tattoo was. It is uneven, there is no symmetry at all. The colors are not what I asked for. There is no fading of the colors or blending of different colors. It is horrible. I would have rather kept the old tattoo that was covered. When I went back to the shop, I was told that in order for her to address my problem with the tattoo, I would need to schedule another appointment.I am extremely disappointed, not only in the artwork that is permanently on my back, but especially in her behavior. When I tell people who did this tattoo, I am sure nobody will believe me, but it is true. Maddie was rude & unprofessional. The tattoo on me could have come from an apprentice, not someone who was on Ink Master, charging $130 an hour, with years of experience. Maybe this behavior isn't normal for her, but it IS possible. Tattoos are supposed to peel. Sometimes tattoos, especially near joints like the wrist, elbow, knee, armpit,...where the skin has the most elasticity, will require a touch up. That is why we offer a free touch up within 6 months. Thank you for the nonsense review you left. Read Less

I anticipated being able to give Tried and True 5 stars, and I'm so disappointed that I can't. I can at least give a couple because they were clean, the artist that was there and the front cashier were extremely nice and accommodating given the fact that I was a walk-in. I came from out of town and brought the design from my artist. This is the second tattoo I've gotten in the Greensboro/High Point area. The only artist there at the time had free time and my tattoo was going to be small, she took me on the spot. However, Almost a week later, my tattoo has peeled, and it doesn't look like it should, and I've made sure to be extra careful over this past week, given the fact that it's on my wrist. The bottom part of my semicolon isn't filled in, and you can't tell most of the details. Tattoos always look better after they've healed so I was waiting on that, but looking at the pictures I took the day of and the day after - those look better than the final peeled product. When I have it, I'll definitely be spending the money to get it redone somewhere in the area where I live. Read Less

One of Greensboro's newest shops. Do not let that worry you though. This is not a fly by night operation. It is owned and operated by Jason Spainhour, one of Greensboro's longest running tattoo artists. Jason has brought together one hell of a team that includes Maddie and Drew I cannot reconmend this shop enough, when you walk in you just get a feeling that original art is greated here. From the fact that they are located in an old bank building (with a ton of cool old details) to the art you can buy hanging on the walls. You know these guys and gals know their stuff. Patrick is awesome, definitely one of the most proficient piercers in the Triad. He is very knowledgeable and involved with the Association of Professional Piercers so he can always stay ahead of the game by providing insight into the latest techniques, jewelery offerings, and related body mod innovations. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I plan on doing all of my future business with Tried and True! The staff is great, they make you feel welcome and go out of their way to assist you which is a lot more than I can say about their competitors. I haven't been tattooed here yet(haven't made up my mind on what to get done yet) but I plan to soon by Madison. One last thing regarding Patrick, the type of facial piercing I wanted everyone else I called around and visited in person about had either no experience doing it or came up with outlandish theories to try and dissuade me from getting it done but that didn't happen here, Patrick came across very confident and he ultimately really helped restore my faith in being able to get the type of rare piercing that I've had my heart set on for the longest. Everyone at Tried and True are very professional and friendly. It is a very clean and unique studio. I had Kayla tattoo me yesterday, and she was so friendly and made me feel so comfortable. I was nervous leaving the studio, because the color tattoo is so different from all the black and white tattoos I have had done in the past. But, going home and cleaning the tattoo I saw how talented Kayla is. The tattoo is so detailed and the colors she used were tastefully done. Kayla is a newer tattoo artist, but she is VERY skilled. This shop is so charming. It's a bank that still has the old architecture and its decorated in a cozy kind of feel. Jason listened to what I wanted and made suggestions based upon that. I met with him in person to discuss a design (plan for that before you can even schedule) and then called the following Monday to schedule and made the deposit over the phone. I think it was booked about 5 weeks out. I love my newest tattoo and am stopped by all walks of life - young, old, every nationality - and complimented on it. I'm not typically an outgoing person so it's taken some getting used to being stopped every time I leave the house. If you go to Jason and your tattoo is visible, you will be stopped frequently! Highly recommend this shop!! I searched and spoke with many artists in NC over the last 4 years and Jason and Tried and True was worth the time that it took to find them and get this cover up done. When I say she did a fantastic job, I mean that she expertly executed the tattoo, but also meticulously explained the healing process and what to expect, with the confidence to stand firm behind her work. She has a great eye for artistry, as well as placement, and as an added benefit, she was super-relatable. She's totally into her craft, and brings professionalism, crazy- tattoo skills, and expert advice to the table.Call, ask for Mallory, and set up an appointment to sit down and talk through an idea. This place is too cute! I love the waiting area because it feels sophisticated but cozy, and the artists have their portfolios on the table for you to peruse.I always see Mallory for my tattoos, and she's great. Parking is unfortunately an issue, so arrive early for your appointment so you'll have plenty of time. I'm giving four stars instead of five due to the back room. Very professional. Came in on a Saturday. Set up an appointment for Monday. Paid the deposit.Came back on Monday. The guys were running a little behind, but they made sure to tell us when to expect them done.Both guys worked on our tattoos for 3 hours. They also worked an hour past closing without complaint.
