My wife and myself have gotten several tattoos and just recently my wife got several piercings there and we are both very experienced in tattoos until this last experience have been very very happy with twisted and let me clear and specific I am not sure how much of Rome this individual played on what took place but had it not been New Year's Eve and had my wife not had her mind set on getting it right that minute it wouldn't have happened period.  The tattoo was mediocre but we were absolutely gouged in price.  I personally have six tattoos of which two I have gotten there which price was fair and the tattoo was done well my wife had three done excluding this last one price again very fair done I would give three stars clean (aside from allowing smoking in the front room which is terrible just my preference ) they are up to standard , artists could use a little bathing but whatever but this last time we were absolutely gauged and because we won't be back so not sure if owner got a little positive support or more business but we supported them when nobody was going there and they got shit reviews because they did a good job at a fair price and now they do a mediocre or less than ok job at a rip off price. 4 tiny hearts on her finger black and white ( he decide to color two of them red on his own volition after the fact because it wasn't any more issue for him than using black - this was what he told us) and a shading and retouching of two hearts on her wrist already tattooed charged her $80 dollars for this tattoo.  We were completely gauged because - I guess because it was a holiday or we were female or this guy who was acting like a manager or the owner - decided it was important to do so.  We were repeat customers who spent over $1000 dollars patronizing his business and it irritates me and angers me when tattoo shops rip people off. He would not have gotten our hard earned money that night had it been up to me and that is the last of it he will get and y'all should really consider what I am saying and research it for yourself. We tipped the artist $20 because he was friendly and it wasn't his fault and the owner wanted to go with $100 even. So he could have played along with that malarkey if he wanted to .  Just pure greed and not good to treat customers that way twisted sixes .  Especially the ones who have tattoos and know what's going onAdditionally we went back to my wife's poor tattoo filled in as all the color came out and the owner told us '40 bones' instead of correcting the poor work done by one of his artists-  we will never spend another dime there and we will let our friends know as well Read Less

Ive been in Durham for about two months now, and have been cautiously waiting to find an 'every day' place for me to go and get tattoos or piercings.  I did what most yelpers would do and put it to research. I came to Twisted Sixs because of their hours and because of the piercing pictures they have on their social media. I was very happy with my experience there; I came in probably an hour or so before they closed, told their piercer what I wanted and was back in the chair in probably 15 minutes.  Granted, I started super simple with just a nose piercing, but I will definitely be going back in the upcoming weeks for a second nose piercing as well as some tattoos. Their staff is all super friendly and super professional.  They made me feel amazingly welcome and comfortable the entire time, without being babied or watched after, which I hate. They seriously have the best balance.  I'm hella happy with their work so far, and I'll update this as  get more done so that I can keep informing everyone as to how great they are! I have gotten 6 of my 8 tattoos (including a cover-up) and two of my piercings here. I refer everyone (and I do mean everyone) I know to get their work done here, even my mother. I am a dedicated client, and I love the simplicity and straightforwardness of the staff.There's always a good deal, even though they may not be posted, you simply have to ask. My first experience here was very good. The atmosphere was comfortable and I was greeted at the door and they were able to take me the same day as a walk-in with about a 20 minute wait. Scotty did a great job, being that it was my first tattoo, and took his time to make sure it was to my liking. I also appreciate the complementary t-shirt that I got along with my service. 1 star is probably too generous. I called on July 3rd regarding having my daughter's ears pierced. I was told to come in no problem and they could do it. I asked if I needed to make an appointment. I was told no, just come on in. I arrived this morning around 11:35AM and was met by a rude employee who was adamant that my daughter could not have her ears pierced. I explained I called and was told to just come in, and was told "Nope, he's not here." I asked when he would be in and was told "sometime today." They wasted my time, so I won't spend a dollar there. I visited Twisted Sixs last week and they did not disappoint. My artist was David and he was patient and quiet. Just like I like. This wasnt my first tattoo and they welcomed me with open arms. I am always nervous around new people and they made me feel like one of the guys. I dont talk much when I am getting work done because I like to escape into my head when there is a needle on my skin. Its painful and makes it difficult to want to talk. At least for me. I so appreciated him saying he was sorry he doesnt talk much because he wanted to make sure I was ok. And I was more than fine. I will definitely be going back to them in the future. Very nice people in my opinion and they deserve our business. And the people who say we are lying are ridiculous. They were nothing but nice and professional to me and I am sorry others did not experience something good like I did. IF I COULD RATE ZERO STARS I WOULD! The piercer complained about having to pierce my moms ear, he was incredibly rude and didnt even tell ger about aftercare. Worst place to go to in Durham. Lived in Durham my whole life and I have always negative things about this place. Well, me and some friends went there a week ago to get a daith and tragus piercing. The man who did the work was named Tod. From thr first time I saw him I knew something was going to go wrong, and sure enough it did. For my tragus, he put a lip ring in my ear. For my daith, he put in a curved bar( which you should never put a curved bar in a daith needs to be a hoop). My friend got a tattoo and the man did not open the needles in front of her, she got a tattoo across her arm and he tattooed it with her room up straight, and to cover it up he put a paper towel ontop of it. Right after we left we went straight to Tattoo asylum in durham. I have both my tattoos from there. And the women in there said we needed to get our piercings looked at at a tattoo/piercing shop. I went to dogstar the next day and they took out both of my piercings. Where the guy from twisted pierced both of the piercings, he pierced it to shallow and it would have rejected the piercings also the holes werent lined up. So I wasted $70 getting 2 piercings with no money back. Do not go here, go to either tattoo aslyum or dogstar for tattoos and dogstar for piercings. More pricey but a lot cleaner and better quality! I was so scared to get my nose pierced after a horrible experience I had somewhere else... (they tried to get my nose pierced and used the needle 3 times and still couldn't get the nose piercing in, so painful!!) but I call Twisted Six and talked to Scotty. He was so nice on the phone so I decided to give it a try. When I got there I explain what had happen somewhere else and he just listen to me and told me that he would be gentle and quick. The fucking worst tattoo job ever!!!! Not sure how you fuck up something so simple as one letter and a heart!!! He went entirely too deep and made a laceration in the tattoo which caused ink to pool underneath my skin causing serious pain and an ugly shadow. Part of my heart isn't even fucking shaded in! My boyfriend's tattoo is practically nonexistent after 1 week. I'm totally pissed and this place should just close immediately. Child Endangerment ...Twisted Sixs staff should know better than to tattoo a a child under the age of 18. Guys this is illegal. What other rules don't you follow ? If you are looking for a tattoo establishment then I suggest you stay clear of Twisted Sixs. They don't follow the laws and I suspect tattooing minors isn't the only protocol they don't follow. I went there and got a piece done on my foot. Tony did it and everything was fine i thought.... went home and realized he missed a spot that makes my tattoo seem incomplete. I went back and showed him and he told me another time to come in and he will fix it. Well, this never happened. I went in to his shop multiple times to have him fix it. He would just tell me to come another time, i would call him, drive down there and he would ignore me. He started getting an attitude about it and tell me he is busy with paying customers while i have a messed up tat on my body. He is unprofessional and rude. Don't go there and support this kind of shop. I have already turn some of my friends away from there. I have never wrote a response to anything on yelp before this. Two words: Tony Roberson. He's at the top of the game. I've been in more than a few tattoo studios n shops, and Tony steals the show. His work done his way is unique and unmatched. I presented a few ideas, and he spun to create a memorial masterpiece in homage to a dear loved one. I didn't need to see a "few versions" as he presented THE version the 1st time, and made me cry, an apocalyptic event all by itself.The guys have a comfy lounge area, pool table, digital juke box, and sales store area. The magic happens separately, behind the lounge, in privacy, as I don't necessarily want to be on display. I love humor, family, tuneage, friends, and relaxation, and Twisted Sixs embodies what I value while I'm getting an ink session.My girl pointed me to Twisted Sixs and I'll have a hard time going elsewhere. I want at least 2 more I can think of right off the cuff.
