A couple of months ago I got my very first tattoo by the very talented Xavi! As I was telling Xavi while he was making my tattoo; I requested a quote from a very well known shop in NYC (Bang Bang), and since this was my first (but definitely not the last) tattoo I was considering to travel there and invest a BIG amount of money. I'm very happy I didn't and that Bang Bang took forever to answer my emails because I was able to find MTL. I can't express enough how happy I am with my tattoo, Xavi is an extraordinary artist and the staff from Made to Last Tattoo (Brandon) was extremely friendly, helpful and resourceful. I know that if you're reading these reviews is because you're taking your time to do some research on where to get your tattoo. Had been looking for a tattoo spot in CLT for a few months now, but found no real solid recommendations.  Jumped on Yelp and reviewed some places, and Made To Last Tattoo stood out to me with some of its work...emailed the shop and someone immediately responded to me. The manager, Brandon, suggested that I come see Bryan Humphries for my new art. Went to the consultation on Monday and got tatted that Thursday. Bryan did an awesome job on my black and grey thigh tattoo. He was professional, polite, and most of all, able to bring my vision to life with his own creativity. Walked past this gorgeous building and popped in to see if they had availability. So glad we did. This is perhaps the cleanest, friendliest, classiest and most professional tattoo studio we have ever seen. The young man at the front desk was exceptional.  Super nice and professional. I had the best experience at this place for my first tattoo on 5/9. First, the shop is in a house like structure. The inside is decorated and really welcoming. It's so unique compared to other tattoo shops. The staff have a great bond and are easy to talk to as well! I chose this place for my first tattoo because of the quality of work each tattoo artist has. My tattoo was done by Evan. He took my idea and made it into something great. I got a medium sized tattoo on my rib cage, and for my first tattoo, I was pretty scared of the pain I would experience. During the session, I felt only a little bit of pain! He was so careful and made sure I was doing ok during the whole process. At the end, my tattoo turned out to be everything I wanted it to be - B/W flower/wheat boutique to represent a major impact in my life. Made To Last is 100% the best shop I've been to. Their work speaks for themselves but the atmosphere at the shop was fantastic. I've been to a lot of shops where the artist and employees are snobby but this place felt like a barber shop. No egos, felt like a family. The best! Booked my first outside-of-Boston tattoo here because my favorite and trusted tattooers in Boston told me to. The building that this shop is in is soooo beautiful - I know that doesn't matter, but it also doesn't hurt. What DOES matter is the talent of the artists, and that's where Made to Last really stands out.Chris tattooed me last night and I was one of those obnoxious clients who has a vague idea of what I want, wants to add on to something I already have, and is just generally unclear about the details. Somehow Chris managed to read my mind and figure out exactly what I wanted before I even knew exactly what I wanted. He was also honest - wasn't just trying to please my ignorant ass, but actually used his expertise to let me know what aspects of my imagined-tattoo just wouldn't work. On top of all that, he created a perfect tattoo that is unbelievably detailed, perfectly sized, and will only look better with time. I can't believe how beautiful it is. One hesitation that I had about Made to Last was that it was going to be prohibitively expensive. They are so well-known and respected that I assumed the hourly rates would be sky-high. They weren't. Amazing tattoo place. I just got my first tattoo here. I was so so nervous and paranoid about all that could go wrong and I couldn't have been treated better. The tattoo artist (Brian) told me to take a deep breath, told me that I'd probably say "oh that's it??" When he started. And he wasn't wrong. They take every precaution necessary and they don't cut corners. My tattoo is amazing and I honestly could not be happier. These guys are the real deal. I took my boy here to get an Eagles tattoo to celebrate their super bowl victory. These guys are professionals. I called and spoke with Brandon and told him the details, then emailed them a rough picture of what he wanted. Luckily, they were able to get us in and Chris took the idea tweaked it, resized it a bit, and placed it perfectly. He transformed it into a living piece of art. This was definitely a situation were his skills were far and above what was needed for this basic tattoo, and yet he happily did it and made it look amazing, unlike some shops that want to condescend some customers, especially first-timers like us. I have been in and out of a few tattoo shops over the years, and these guys shatter expectations. The customer service is top notch, it's well run and organized, clean, beautiful shop, the equipment(tables,chairs, arm rests) is clean and well-kept, well lit, professional, knowledgeable, courteous staff and artists. The whole environment is refreshing and I feel like this is the cream of the crop. If youre covered in tattoos and want another high quality piece, or a first-timer like us that wants a good experience, or you're just tired of the dingy tattoo places that seem to pop up everywhere, come here. From the first phone call to make an appointment I knew this place was completely different from any other tattoo parlor I'd ever been to or seen.  Completely professional right from the start.  Sometimes I feel that normal or not people with tattoos from head to toe get looked down in when hey go in for a scripture or something small- that did NOT happen here!! No judgment whatsoever!The building is a gem hidden in uptown Charlotte- I think the guys said it was built in 1890, and had been renovated.  It was beautiful! And so clean and bright!Not only were the employees super professional, but my best friend and I made friends with some other clients right away...even their clients were coolThe music was very chill and the overall vibe showed that the artists loved what they get to do for a living.We left happy with our choices, and already discussing plans to come back- even though we both live in other states.Side note: I'm currently sitting in another tattoo parlor in GA while my husband is getting a new one- and compared to Made to Last- I'm pretty much disgusted.  Everything the people do here I'm comparing it to what the artists did last week and there is no comparison.  I've been trying to get him to forfeit this place and make an appointment w/ Made to Last, but he's stubborn, so we'll see .  I will most definitely go back to Made to Last for my next one. We have traveled to Charlotte from Charleston for two separate tattoos for my husband. The first with Evan and the second with Graham. Our first experience was pretty straight forward, we scheduled a month in advance, we were able to book the appointment for when was best for us and Evan did amazing work! Evan is a funny and out-going kind of guy! Really great to meet him! Our second visit, Mae was working the front desk and Graham, a new-to-town artist created my husband's second tattoo. Graham's work is phenomenal! He is professional and takes your tattoo seriously!! The color is crafted well and is truly made to last! Mae at the front desk was a super personable friendly touch to the shop! She talked to us while we waited and after the tattoo was completed she asked what we were doing while we visited in Charlotte. She gave us a best view recommendation at the concert we are going to the following night, a brunch recommendation and even booked a reservation for dinner for us because she knew someone at the restaurant we wanted to go to! I would never go anywhere else for a tattoo. Jenn has been working on my sleeve for a few months now and her work is absolutely incredible. I love this place! I've now seen Jason and Jenn. Jason was really great and very welcoming to me and husband when we first came in. Since then I've seen Jenn and I am in love with her work and how warm she is. I love getting ink from her she's professional, genuine, and sweet. She's also a VERY talented artist. I still can't believe she created my flowers from drawing first on my skin and then going over it with the gun. Everyone here is very accommodating. I recently posted a negative review on Jenn Smalls, one of the tattoo artists there. I do not recommend going to her. She was on her phone and I felt like she was unprofessional. Less than an hour after the review was posted Brandon, the gentleman that works front of house/manager called me. He had already talked to Matt (one of the owners) about my experience and wanted to extend an apology. They did not try to give me bullshit on the matter and just wanted to genuinely apologize. You can tell the experience I had does not reflect their shop. When I made the review I was not expecting to feel better about what had happened to me, I made the post to hopefully save a future customer. By the end of the conversation I felt much better and finally have closure from what had happened. Thank you Made To Last Tattoos for listening, apologizing and making it right with me. I have not met Matt yet but look forward to meeting him and I have known Brandon from coming into the shop and he continues to be a huge asset to the shop. I've been following some of their artists for a while now and I was very happy to see them at Charlotte's newest shop! They have a great group of artists and studio managers that will work with you to get the tattoo you want. I have gotten most of my tattoos from Jenn Small, but I do recommend their other artists as well. Also, look the shop up on Instagram and you can see each artist's individual style.All in all, I am very happy with my tattoo and continually surprised by the work the artists produce! Read Less

This was my first tattoo. I am extremely OCD about cleanliness so I had my doubts, but this establishment was amazingly organized and sanitary. It was a very clean atmosphere and customer service was friendly. Chris Stuart was my artist and I got script style work on my rib cage. He was great! The work is crystal clear and very unique with many small details and lines. Obviously, anything on the ribs is painful, but he was very light handed and took precautions to make me comfortable. I'm am very satisfied with my experience here and would recommend this shop to anyone looking for quality work. It was not cheap but you pay for what you get. Let me preface this by saying I am not a "tattoo person." So when my friend visiting from Europe wanted to get some ink to commemorate her time in the US I was at a complete loss. Made to Last was recommended to me so I called to make an appointment, totally intimidated and unsure of what to expect. The entire process was seamless from start to finish. From the initial conversation with Brandon to the actual session with visiting artist Billy White, it was an amazing experience for both of us. Admittedly, I didn't get a tattoo here BUT my wife and I were on a trip to Charlotte and were walking by when it started to downpour. After a few minutes of standing on Made to Last's porch, an employee or owner (not sure) opened the door and welcomed us in. We mentioned how beautiful the interior was (not a word I ever thought I'd use to describe a tattoo parlor) and he offered to let us look around as much as we'd like. He also let us stay in their VERY comfortable waiting area and offered us bottled water. So I'm not sure of the quality of tattoo at Made to Last but if their employees and atmosphere are any indication, I wouldn't go any other place! Read Less
