I got my first tattoo here and I keep coming back here for work! I see Eric Sparrow he has been tattooing 20+ years. The staff and himself really walked me through the whole process of getting ink and made me so comfortable. I was extremely disappointed with my experience here.  I had done so much research to find the right tattoo artist and stopped in a few weeks ago to review the work of everyone at this shop. I was pretty sold out to meeting with Alicia and I booked a consultation a week in advance.  I know I'm a novice at all this but I assumed that the consultation would involve the artist hearing about my ideas, looking at pictures I pulled to give them the vision and then them talking me through ideas or adding their creative spin on things. I wasn't sure if they would sketch something right in front of me if it was simple enough or what would take place but considering I had to book an appointment I at least expected to "consult."  Alicia came out into the lobby where 5 other people were and basically asked what I was thinking about getting. I looked at her like oh, we are doing this here? And she said she would take me back but she has a client. Why did i make an appointment? Bottom line? She was rude, condescending and unfriendly. She also told me anyone in the shop could do what I wanted. Well, thanks. I had been following HER, booked time with HER and to be dismissed the way I was was atrocious. Maybe she didn't want to do my idea, maybe she was having a bad day, maybe whatever but I will NOT be getting a tattoo by her. No way. So I stopped by a couple of weeks ago to start the conversation about a new tattoo and was immediately please with the atmosphere and the people that work there. Had my beautiful watercolor tattoo yesterday by Alicia and couldn't possibly say enough about her artistic abilities and professionalism. I was nervous as we were covering up a 36 year old debacle and she gave me the soft colorful feminine tattoo that I am SO PROUD to show off! Every detail is every exact. I first sat in Alicia's chair about five weeks ago when I sent her five separate and distinctly different pictures and told her I wanted a combination of all of them. When I came back a week later for the first session, what she had drawn up was exactly what I didn't know I wanted. It was the perfect amalgamation of all the pictures. I went back again last night to get the color filled in and I am BEYOND thrilled with how it turned out. I showed up, as usual, with only some ideas, on my next tattoo. Dave advised me to what makes a better tattoo and steered me in the right direction. We ended up sticking with my theme and I chose an image that Dave was stoked about doing. That always leads to a killer finished product. I later found out it was one he had wanted to do for quite a while. After 4 hours under the gun, I left with my jaw wide open. He killed it with a portrait of Twisty the clown. I have gotten tattoos in different shops around the country for 20 years and this shop has been the most professional, clean, and welcoming that I've ever been to. Everything from the consultation to the appointment reminder call is smooth and goes the extra mile. The artists are on time and prepared when you get to your appointment, and the shop is relaxed and comfortable. Once your tattoo begins it feels like you're hanging out at a good friend's house getting the best tattoo of your life. Dave has been my artist for the last couple of years working on my entire back. I am pretty picky about what I want and I come in with a vision. Dave listens to every idea and concern I have and works his artistic magic to make these ideas come to life. Everything is original and one of a kind. He has a light hand and is very efficient with his work so the ink goes in smoothly and fast. I barely scab up from his work and the healing process is fast and easy. Dave's work is large, the colors are deep and true, and his images are clean and crisp making them readable from across the room. I always enjoy our conversations and see Dave as a friend who I could hang out with even away from the shop. If you are looking for original, professional, made-to-last work, this is your spot. I got my first tattoo here with Eric Sparrow. He was super friendly and made the experience pleasent, I would definitly come back here for more! The establishment is clean and despite it looking small on the ourside I felt very safe here. (I'm 5 foot four and a woman so that was important to me)Eric went above and beyond to deliver a great tattoo, and did not charge me extra even though it took MUCH longer than he originally thought. He even kept the place open after hours to make sure the tattoo looked perfect. Only one star taken off because of some scheduling/rescheduling issues, but it really wasn't that big of a deal and I'd give 4.5 stars if I could. This issue was addressed and handled well too. I chose Alicia because her work with fine lines and detail is amazing! We had a discussion about what I wanted, I emailed her ideas, and set up an appointment. First I noticed how clean everything is, from the outside of the building to inside. All the pictures on the wall were free of dust, the windows were clean. Could tell they take pride in the cleanliness of their work place. I got my tattoo with Dave, he made it such a fun environment and his creativity showed through my tattoo. I came in with a picture and an idea, but Dave definitely made it a thousand times better than what I could have thought. From the outline to the shading, Dave formed the tattoo to the movement of my arm to make it flow better. Highly recommend this shop. I've gotten tattooed at a few other shops and this is by far the best I've been to. All the staff are friendly and professional and the location is very clean and well kept. I researched a lot of tattoo shops in North Carolina in anticipation of getting my new tattoo and I came across Dave's portfolio. He really has some or the best work I've seen, so I gladly make the drive out here to get work done. He's currently working on a half-sleeve cover up and I'm absolutely blown away by how it's turning out. Best tattoo experience I've ever had!! I have been getting tattooed since my Marine Corps service in the 90's and have been through many shops. Some I liked and others I would not go back to. BST has been the most professional, friendly, and clean shop I've been to. I did a lot of research on every reputable shop in Charlotte and decided to check in personally with a few. Some were unorganized and one had me stand around for 45 minutes to talk with someone. BST was the 3rd shop I stopped at and I instantly felt at home. I told Ryan at the counter that I was interested in getting a traditional Japanese dragon and she said Dave Scearce was the man to speak to. After speaking with Dave I knew I had found my guy. We set up 4 appointments. While waiting for my first appointment I emailed Dave a couple of times with ideas of what I might want and Dave would always answer. This meant a lot because my last artist would not answer emails. The shop called me a week before to remind me of my appointment like a doctor's office would. Very professional and courteous. When I got in to see Dave for my first appointment he knew what I wanted from the consultation and emails and we got started. He drew the dragon on and listened to what I wanted to add, like maple leaves and realistic eyes. When I looked in the mirror it took my breath away. He took my ideas and ramped them up to a level I never could imagine. While getting tattooed the other artists would check in to talk and all of them are professional and cool. They do everything they can to make sure you are comfortable. They bring you water or ask if you're hungry. Ryan leaned in last session and asked if I needed anything from Panera while she was there. I have now done 4 sessions with Dave and the tattoo is the best one I have. For me to say that says a lot. I am a tattoo snob (HaHa) and have some art from very well-known artists. Let me preface this by saying I'm a shy person and tattoo shops intimidate me greatly, this being said, my experience with BST almost left me in tears. I had heard good things about them and did my research and decided to go with one of their artists that specializes in text. I have a rough idea of what I want, but I am the least creative person ever and I need an artist's touch to be able to make my ideas come to life. I called ahead to make sure the artist I wanted was available and was assured that they were. When I got there, they were already busy with someone else (walk-ins happen, I know). I had to do my 'consultation' while they were tattooing someone else with 3 other people in the room. By this time I'm completely rattled and I'm sure I came off like a total idiot, but I felt like I was judged and completely dismissed. I was told to just email the quote I wanted in the text I wanted and that was the end of the story. I could've gone to any artist and done that! I have an existing tattoo and really wanted an artist to sit down with me and figure out an elegant way to work this quote into what I already have and give me input and help visualize the thing that will be on my body FOREVER.   I understand that time is money and they can't sit down and chat with you for an hour about a 'silly quote' you want on your body forever, but at least try to act like you're not just trying to take my money. It's been about 5 years since my last tattoo and I heard a lot of great things about BST through word of mouth so decided to check it out. The staff is very friendly and I enjoyed the lobby area which doesn't have the stereotypical showcase of 1000+ tattoo designs but rather coffee table style books from each artist available. Hands down, no other shop around compares to the wonderful atmosphere at BST. The front desk staff is friendly and very helpful when scheduling appointments. The building is very clean and full of custom artwork. I have been tattooed by both Jenn Small and AJ Lingerfeldt on multiple occasions. Both Jenn and AJ are highly skilled as well as creative. I can go in with half an idea and the artist can make it bloom into a beautiful tattoo. Every single artist at BST (Dave, Mike, AJ, Dia, and Jenn) makes getting tattooed a comfortable and enjoyable experience. BST takes sanitation seriously. I have never had an infection or any issues with healing. Every artist takes time to go over detailed aftercare instructions as well as following all NC regulations for tattooing. Chances are if you're having "infections" then you didn't pay attention or follow the aftercare guidelines that were sent home with you!!!I highly recommend BST to anyone who is looking for a clean shop that produces quality, lasting work. Please keep in mind that you are putting something on your body permanently and quality is more important than quantity. Good tattoos aren't cheap and cheap tattoos aren't good! Read Less

I walked into Blood Sweat & Tears, very nervous, not knowing what to expect in getting my first tattoo. Everyone there was very nice and made me feel very welcome, telling me that i need to just relax and that it wasn't going to be that bad, calming me down, and they were right. The tattoo didn't really hurt, it even just tickled at times. Jen was my artist and she did an amazing job on my piece, she was very nice and a GREAT artist. Dave Scearce inked a very colorful Gypsy tattoo on my left arm, 1/2 sleeve almost a year ago. You know how it is when you walk, you see people looking at you if you have any tattoos visible. In the year I have had this tattoo, everyone that comments on it always says it's the most beautiful piece of art they have seen. The strange thing is I have several tattoos on my right forearm, but no one EVER comments on those.Dave does AMAZING work. THe shop is inviting, clean, great atmosphere, and has an awesome staff. I spent hours looking for a tattoo studio in the Charlotte area that I really liked. There are several outstanding shops in Charlotte, but BST is definitely among the best of the best. the artists are all wonderful folks that really will take the time and listen to what it is you want to have done, and work hard to help create your vision. Additionally, between the four artists they have specialists in all different types of art: black and grey, color, portraits, asian style,american traditional, etc etc. My wife and I each have had several tattoos done there, and each experience was great.
