My nose ring had gotten stuck and she took care of me. She clipped my nose ring put a new one in so I can take it out for work and changed my nipple piercings. The whole process was quick and clean. I called and made an appointment for three people a couple of days ago for yesterday, when we got there, apparently no appointment was made. At first they told us about 30 minutes which we were fine with. We ended up waiting nearly 2 hours. I wish somebody would have told us cause we would have left and came back if we knew it would be that long. Once we got to the back and got our tattoos everything was fine. The needles were clean, the set up was clean and the tattoos came out great. The music was great and the artist was attentive. After starting a new position with a company that allows body jewelry and tattoos, I decided to get another nose piercing. After doing some research, I came across a bunch of reviews on Sheila's work. On Yelp, Google and even on Instagram - positive reviews across the board. No only does Sheila posses over 22 years of experience, but she has such a relaxing, calm demeanor about her. She explained exactly what she was going to do and let me know what I should do in return (ie. deep breath, relax, etc). I was super nervous but she immediately calmed me down and was super gentle. I came here in March as a walk-in for a simple arrow tattoo on my foot along with my boyfriend for a tattoo on the inside of his arm. After taking the necessary actions for healing I noticed that half the ink did not set into my foot. (The ink was patchy in my boyfriends tattoo as well.) I was upset, but the man who tattooed me said if there were any problems with setting he would make sure I would get a free touch-up. I finally went back in the beginning August, an appointme...nt I made weeks in advance. My appointment was at 12, I sat around for almost an hour and a half for my artist (Slic) to even show up. When he finally arrived at around 1:20 PM, the lady at the front desk informed him that I was in a time crunch due to an prior commitment at 1:45 and he all he says is "Then what are we waiting for" with a very harsh attitude. He rushed the touch up to the point where my tattoo looks even worse now. He did not clean off the area before tattooing and the lines were sloppy, not straight and like I said, looks even worse now. We had taken our ghoul almost two years ago to Big Joe's to get nose piercing. Very professional, clean. I decided to get daith piercings to try to control migraine. Spoke with Sheila during the week, felt confident she understood the piercing in relation to migraines. So Mother's Day I went. Originally was only going to get one side, having heard not a good idea to do both at once, but Sheila said she'd done it without problems so I went for it. I have very tiny ears was worried she wouldn't be able to pierce them properly (shallow daith piercings are supposed to be bad, very hard to heal), but I put myself in her experienced hands, she found tiny jewellery, and voila! I think the migraines have lessened, not quite sure with the weird weather (which always affects my head), plus the great amount of stress I'm under. It's healing beautifully and I love how they're nestled in my ear! No trouble sleeping on them, no after pain (could be me, I have a weird gene that makes me have an extroidinary high pain tolerance which can really suck when you feel pain too late), no swelling. This is my favorite shop. I have gotten tattooed by most of the artists at the shop, and I must say that the work here is better than perfect! Definitely check out Adam, Anthony, Slic, and Marcel's work. I've also gotten multiple piercings from Sheila, and they look fantastic. The staff is friendly and helpful when it comes to helping their customers pick out artwork. It is a clean shop as well. Hands down the BEST spot to get pierced or tattooed in Westchester. I've been going to Big Joes for my tattoos and piercings for the last 12 years. Joey does majority of my tattoos... He's patient and a great artist. They have artists there that special in all kinds of styles.  Slic and Sheila have done all my piercings.  They always make me feel comfortable and at ease if I'm nervous. I was discriminated against when I came to this parlor. I'm not sure if the entire parlor is racist. But the man at the front desk sure is. I had called parlor an hour prior to coming to the shop. I was waiting for two hours for a very small and simple tattoo. He told me to wait an hour when i first arrived and said the artist was busy, i figured it must be a large tattoo so I left. He had told me that he would call after the hour, he did not. I returned to the store,continued to wait. I kept asking, how much longer will i be waiting and each time I noticed a small attitude in his response. The fourth time I asked, he told me I could come back tomorrow. I don't live in White plains, I came there to receive a tattoo that same day. I began to notice, the black people were waiting significantly longer than the white people. Soon after a white person, they were quickly served. Before, I could curse him out, he went to the back. My boyfriend told me it was a better idea just to leave. We left and went to Addicted To Ink which only a few blocks away. (and cheaper) The starting price here is 60$, at Addicted To Ink it is 50$. The service was incredibly faster, the technology was better, environment was better, the workers are much friendlier. If you are a minority, or a person who believes racism is wrong. I have never had a bad experience at Big Joes, partly due to the awesome piercings/tattoos, but most of the credit is due to the wonderful people! Brian, the manager, is the coolest and friendliest guy. He makes you feel so safe through every piercing and is totally down to earth. The tattoo artists (whose name's I didn't catch) were bright and friendly to both my friend and I through the process of our first tattoos, and they both came out beautifully! This place is just ok. Walked in on a Sunday afternoon to get a SUPER small tattoo. Adam (owner) told me that it would obviously be the minimum but he would only take cash. Site says they accept cards. I'm assuming he just pocketed the cash but it would've been nicer to offer a cash discount since the whole think took him about 10 minutes. The woman at the front desk is so rude. I was working on a design with one of the artists and she would pass comments saying "wow this is taking 2 hours for just a drawing" and "this is going to be a huge tattoo, should probably get to it." It shouldn't matter how long it takes for the artist to design it, apparently she doesn't know where she works because a tattoo lasts forever and yes of course I want it to be perfect and how I want it designed. The artist had no problem brain storming with me, his name I think is Mauricio? We came up with a bad ass design, just a shame he works for Big Joes, he has a lot of potential. Also, there's an artist there that used to work for addicted to ink named "Slim" and he's awful. He doesn't seem interested or passionate about tattooing. He does shitty work as well. RUN AWAY from this place.  If I could have given zero stars, i would have.  All the other poor ratings you can read here are on target.  Why is this place still in business?  The employees are RUDE TROLLs.  Here's the way it goes:  you make an appointment (in this case 4 pm).  You call to confirm and they tell you they are "a little behind" and you'd better come at 5 pm.  OK, you arrive at 5 and are told "it will be a few minutes" and then they ignore you.  At 6:15 we walked out and drove 5 minutes to Addicted to Ink which was cleaner, more professional, and they charged almost half of what BJoe estimated.  BJoe operates like the customer is always wrong, and I guess the positive reviews are from teenyboppers who don't know how the real world works, and will put up with anything.  Any by the way, the art work is competent, not special in any way. I walked in on a Friday night a few weeks ago with a friend. I had been thinking about getting this third one for a while (it's a semicolon tattoo for a friend that committed suicide a few months ago on my ribs) It came out wonderfully and Slic was awesome. Sheila at the front was pretty great too. It took about an hour for it to be finished, since it's mostly blue shading around the semicolon, plus I made him stop a couple times. Late spring & early summer 2015, I dropped about $800 on custom work at this parlor. Sheila, Anthony and the owner/operator Adam are generally and I do emphasize generally are cool. But management of the business is INSANLEY DISORGANIZED. I found appointment bookings, wait times, artist start times, artist AWOL & lack of attention to work detail due to consistent distractions interruptions to be typical. The response was always the same ... " its a tattoo parlor.. what do you expect?" Hey I get it .. I wasn't expecting  the comforting warmth of a high end spa experience either, but they just didn't seem to care one lick that your time was just as valuable as theirs; or for that matter that their time was valuable at all.  I suppose the store fronts location on a major strip not far from, several colleges and university offer them  the foot traffic impulse revenue to afford a response like that. Heard mixed reviews before I made my appointment but did it anyway. Being my first tattoo I was nervous but Basilio did a decent job talking me through. Had to wait about two hours after my appt time to be started on. Very busy shop and my artist was very distracted. Leaving me mid tattoo to speak with people in the front, talk on the phone and answer text messages (without changing gloves some of the times I must add). I was also asked to get up and move several times during my tat so they could get supplies for other projects happening at the same time. Guess they keep materials behind a tattoo station. Overall experience was poor but thought I'd use Basillio again for the second session to finish up as he seemed like a nice guy. He didn't reply to texts or emails but was finally able to make an appointment. When I went in he told me that he double booked and couldn't see me. Explained I took off work, had my daughter in childcare just for this and made my apt over a week earlier. They didn't care and opted to work on the person he scheduled the day prior (who wasn't even there yet). Asked if the other guy there could finish me and was just told no (even though he had no apt). I decided never to go back here. I wasn't going to leave a review but wanted to explain this all to the studio so hopefully they could learn from it and make someone else's experience better, especially a first timer, but I was basically laughed at and they ended by making an odd/rude Dave Navaro comment (guess he has tattoo show?) and told me never to go back. So much for constructive feedback. So all that said I decided to leave my review here. As mention I heard mediocre reviews so I'm partly at fault for visiting this studio to begin with. Hope others read this and learn from my mistakes. Ask lots of questions up front, triple confirm your appt times and try to go off peak hours so you get the attention you should at the prices they charge. Sheila was amazing. I was clearly nervous to get my nose pierced, but she talked me through it and it was surprisingly relatively painless! Whether that was because she calmed me down or because she just did it excellently (or both), it was quick and easy either way. Adam did my first and only tattoo on my right shoulder in 1991.  People were amazed at how the colors held up after all this time.  Went yesterday to have it redone with some additions and another on my left shoulder.  Adam's son was helpful and really nice as was all the staff.  Again, quality work for a great price.  Don't understand how reviewers say they didn't get what they wanted because Adam shows you the image on paper to check it, and has you check the stenciled image on your body before he begins.  I had to wait bc the place was packed when I got there.  This is a laid back family business built years ago.  If you want Manhattan chic, go there.  I live in and drove from Manhattan to get my tattoo done here. It's been about 20 years since I was last at Big Joe's but I remember all experiences there quite fondly. For my first tattoo, I walked in with my copy of Winnie the Pooh and asked for one of the illustrations to be put on my arm. Big Joe tried his best to talk me out of it, "You really want that where people can see it? You're going to get married some day, think about how that is going to look with your dress." He really tried but not knowing me, there was no way he could k...now what the tattoo would mean to me. I stuck around all day and waited and he finally conceded to do it. A few years later I went back for more and this time I went with a piece of flash from the wall. Big Joe took the time to think about it and asked what I thought about maybe changing the colors up a bit, I agreed and have been delighted ever since with both my "ugly bear" (as in "Who put that ugly bear on your arm?", Me: "You did.", "Yeah, I remember...") and my customized flash. Adam did some pieces on one of my friends and I know she has been thrilled with her work ever since. I got my first ever tattoo here.  I entered with a design and Adam improved the tattoo more than I could ever imagine.  The tattoo itself was amazing!A problem I did encounter though was that I was not pleased with the service.  I got the tattoo done on my back, and they made me sit for 2 hours and 15 minutes on a steel chair.  Also, Adam was distracted by his phone every 15 minutes.The tattoo itself was amazing, but the service was below par! Adam did a really nice piece on my left arm about 6 months ago. I was really impressed with the quality and the pricing was fair. Everything went so well I was keen to get a second piece, but it didn't work out.I called to schedule a consultation to discuss the tattoo, but was told that I should just stop in 'anytime'. That's a bit of a problem due to my schedule, but I still I managed to pop in a total of three times over the next 2 weeks. Each time though, Adam was busy with other customers or on the phone and could only give me a minute or so to talk about what I wanted to do, He did promise to get back to me, but unfortunately, he never did. Ultimately, I went to a different tattoo shop.In the end, I would definitely recommend Big Joe and Sons and Adam in particular based on pricing and work quality. Went in here with my brother one day when he was on leave before deploying to Iraq. He showed them a few possible designs, including the logo for USMC 3rd Reconaissance Battallion, his unit. The employee in charge got angry and said the USMC Recon logo was in fact a Hell's Angels symbol, and that my brother was not allowed to wear it. He also told my brother he didn't believe he was a Marine.First of all, the logos are superficially similar, but they are clearly different, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Second, if we're going to have a discussion about who is "allowed" to wear a skull and crossbones logo, then the claim should go to men who fight for our country, not a group of pseudo-criminals squeezing into leather chaps during a midlife crisis. And lastly, respect the Marines.For his part, my brother calmly took out his wallet, displayed his military ID to the morons going on about the supposed Hell's Angel logo, then took his designs and left. Just finished getting a cover up from at Big Joe's in White Plains. They did an amazing job. Sheila handled the appointments and they kept all of their appointments, no cancellations, no long waits. Pete handled my tattoo and it blew my expectations away. I had an old faded tattoo I got when I was 18, which was almost 15 years ago. I gave them a general idea of what I wanted to turn it into (from a cross to a sword and shield) and he drew up his own design, which looked better then anything I could come up with on my own, and went to work. I told them how much I wanted to spend and they worked with me on it and gave me a fair price. The tattoo took two sessions, everything was clean, everyone was nice and friendly. Highly recommended.
