My husband and I went to get matching wrist tattoos. Plus my husband was getting another small tattoo. The guy forgot my husband was getting a second tattoo... so in total we got 3 tattoos, we were there less than 30 minutes. It was very rushed. There was some other guy, I'm assuming another customer in there at least half of our time talking to the guy.. And to top it off our tattoos aren't even good. And the receptionist is amazing to gives you lots of details and helps you when your nervous his work is some of the most amazing work I have seen I gave him a picture and he free handed it !! My girlfriend hasn't even had her tattoo done yet, but as far were concerned there isn't another studio around lol. Artifex is easily the best place to get a tattoo in the upstate area. The prices are very reasonable and the line work is flawless. Chip has done 7 of my 8 tattoos and they all came out better than expected. He is awesome at doing freehand work as well if you're into that. He also added an awesome very detailed half sleeve addition to one of my previous pieces for a very good price. His pieces also hold up very well and don't fade at all. I called artifex for a consult on a coverup.The first person I met was Katie who I immediately thought was one of the sweetest girls I have ever met . I was treated incredibly well. I had a friend go with me, and Chip was amazing to us both. I've been in the shop twice, once for my first tattoo, back on Sept 30th, and once for my friend who got her second Artifex tattoo a few weeks later. He's a wonderful artist who stands by his work, which shows with his free touch ups policy. I will be going in again for a touch up and tattoo soon. I was worried by a couple reviews online, but I can't figure out where they're coming from. But honestly, my only complaint is that I need to get my tattoo touched up(which is more because of my skin, not Chip), but it's free. I can't really complain about that, and every other aspect of the place, from the other people working there, to the atmosphere, to Chip's skill and care in his work, is perfect, so it gets a perfect score in my book. After some research I decided to go in to Artifex. The schedule is heavily booked but I managed to get an appointment. And Chip is AWESOME. I got my first tattoo from him and it barely hurt. The lady at front is very nice. Chip, on the other hand, is just all about getting you in and out. He had me scheduled for an hour and a half for my tattoo, but quickly banged it out in 45 minutes. It was so sloppy that when I went back for a touch up, he had to use flesh colored ink to hide some of his mistakes, which made it even worse. Now someone else is going to fix it. Only Custom Tattoos.. I really spent a month looking around for a tattoo artist. Some places were rated great, but when you walk in, it was like they were doing it as a 9-5 job. When I walked in here, the atmosphere and just the way Chip explained the process was very calming for my first tattoo. Throughout the process, he explained how to take care of it. He doesn't have any tattoo designs books, and this was a very custom design that I wanted to make. Their slogan of only doing custom work caught my attention. I am very pleased! Every person who has ever gotten a tattoo has always written good reviews about the place they get theirs. They always form a bond with the artist and then again, who wouldn't. You are after all performing a permanent mark on your skin and you would have liked the place before you got it otherwise you wouldn't have gotten it there. Right?As you walk into this small but cheerful place, you will find that the atmosphere is just welcoming. I got my first tattoo here. They only do custom tattoos! Their philosophy is that each tattoo should be unique to the person. That is exactly what I believe in. I had a custom tattoo I wanted and despite the fully booked schedule, I was able to get mine within the next two days. I must say that the design was greatly inked and they offer touch-ups for free. I would recommend this place to my friends, and would get another tattoo if I ever feel the need to. For now, I'm just enjoying the one the have! Read Less
