All of my tattoos  are done by Erick! My moms too! He is AMAZING! He has a gentle and swift hand, he is very mellow and calm and puts you at ease. He is also extremely sweet. He really takes the time to listen to what you want and make sure you like it before beginning and he lets me show my mom first before he starts and let's me take as long as I need to look at it before he starts. He always asks if you are ready before starting. My first tattoo I was so nervous I thought I was going to pass out. He put me so at ease as soon as he began I calmed down. Very clean. Everything new out of the package. They play very relaxing music which keeps me and my anxiety calm. I would never go to anybody besides Erick EVER. So glad my mom found him! Go to Erick! I went today to get my Monroe re-pierced. I fainted when I got it done originally and was a little worried that I would faint this time too. Click did my piercing and he was so amazing. He talked me through everything and continued to talk to me while making sure I wasn't going to faint. He even helped me get new jewelry in when the stud he gave me was too long and hitting my teeth. As for the prices, I originally got it done in California and it cost me $60 plus the tip. $55 for a new piercing was fair, I think, especially when I came back to get a different stud and he still gave me free cleanser for the spot. RUDE. CONDESCENDING. UNPROFESSIONAL.When I first went to Tattoo Lou's at its Deer Park location (now closed down), I saw Po Po who did a plum blossom tattoo on my back. I liked how it came out.  However, 6 years has passed and the tattoo has faded as expected.  I am getting married in May 2018 and figured that it was the perfect time to get the tattoo touched up/worked on.  I messaged PoPo in July 2017.  I do believe that there was some kind of misunderstanding in our messages. Popo had told me that touchups need to be within three months. I was hoping to get my tattoo done in January, so thinking that July was too early to make an appointment, I called the shop in November.When Po po came on the line he scolded me for calling for a Touch up! He was annoyed and even laughed at the fact that I called for a Touch up. I was taken aback and was very confused. He sounded aggravated stating "I Don't understand. I told you when you got your tattoo done 6 years ago that it would fade. TouchUp needs to be done within 3 months of getting the tattoo! He continued to sound irritated that I even called about it.I do understand that tattoos fade over time, which is precisely the reason that I wanted to get it touched up. At this point I also realized that "touchups" are "free and done "within 3 months of a new tattoo" at the shop. However, I always thought that touchups are still called touchups whether or not they are done 3 months or 3 years after. And I fully understood that I had to pay for it. Po po was getting angry that I called it a touchup.. I also told him that I don't remember specifics of what he told me 6 years ago because it was so long ago. Which he replied "Well *I* DO Because I'm a PROFESSIONAL."Trying to keep my cool, I told him that I really didn't know what he wanted me to call it but all I wanted was to make the color and lines look crisper and brighter since it had been a long time since I had gotten it done. He then asked me when I wanted to come in.Now, just for some background, I am a nurse. I work 12-13 hour shifts overnight in Manhattan. However I was willing to go all the way to Selden to see Po po on my days off. I had prepeared 4-5 dates in December and January to see if any of those would work out. And if not I could see him sometime in February all the way until April 2018.When I told Popo my dates, he exclaimed "Why only those dates?!" Again, I was taken aback, for I had given him several dates. I replied to him "because I work." He then replied "Oh yeah? Well I work too!"I then asked him how bout he give me dates then instead of asking me. And he replied "Well YEAH! That's what I wanted to do!" .........Ooookay.   Then why were you asking me  when in the first place?! He then told me...that it was a problem. That he didn't know when he could see me. This, I found ridiculous. I told him that I could see him even until April. All he kept telling me was that he "didn't know". That he didnt know his schedule for next year. I asked him when he would know. And when should I call. And all he kept saying was " he didn't know".I then told him that I messaged him all the way back in July and that I was getting married in May 2018. And he then said "Well why did you wait so long?! That's like asking for something when it happened already!". This made me furious because that is no way to speak to a client and also I was asking him months in advance. However I still kept my cool.Popo then said he would "do me a favor" The only way I could possibly get an appointment with him was if I put down a $500 deposit online. He said his assistant would speak to me and give me an appointment. I Asked him if I would be able to get an estimate for $500 is alot for a deposit. He told me he could not because he forgot how big the tattoo was and how it looked. I told him that I could send a picture but he flat out said No. How can I put a $500 deposit if I am do not even have a general idea of when or how much?! Popo also told me that he did not want me messaging him again. That he did not like writing or talking to people because he is "an oldschool chinese guy" so he rather have me call and talk to his assistant. This made me even more angry. How unprofessional can you be.At the end of the conversation , popo then told me that he had to go because he did not want his client to hear him arguing on the phone. Well maybe he shouldn't have been arguing with a client in the first place!I was so upset with the way this was handled and was very offended by the way To do spoke to me. And just FYI popo, I was actually on my break that night in the staff lounge so my patients suffering from cancer would not hear me arguing with a tattoo artist because I'm a "PROFESSIONAL"Will never come back. I decided to go to a tattoo shop for a piercing since I got an infection from the piercing at the mall a year or 2 ago. I came in as a walk in just for a 2nd lobe piercing and I was called up pretty quick. There were a few consent forms to sign beforehand. Click pierced my ears and he was great. I'm terrified of needles and pain, and he was extremely sweet and talked me through everything. He intructed me how to care for it after, how sanitary the needles are, and answered all of my questions. He was also trying to be funny and kept small talk going because I was extremely nervous. Was in Long Island for the weekend visiting my best friend. Another friend and I got piercings. Place seemed clean although very cramped - our friend wanted one of us to go back with her since she was nervous and the guy at the front desk flat out and rudely said no. I guess because the place is almost set up like a hair salon but with tattoo artists next to each other. Never seen that before - no room for extra bodies back there. The girl who did our piercings seemed sweet and nice. However, the general atmosphere comes across as arrogant and that's my biggest turn off with a tattoo shop. Read Less

I used to love tattoo Lou's. I got my first cartilage piercing there when I was younger. I let the hole close due to sports and went back to get It pierced a year and a half ago. To this day it still hurts. It was pierced diagonally, the diamond faces up into my ear, and it's just plain painful. I expected better. Unfortunately it's pierced so horribly I can't even put a hoop in. I followed all after care instructions and have left the original stud in. They put the longest one in and told me to come back to size down once the swelling went down. Too bad once the swelling went down the piercing was still going through my ear almost vertically. I wasn't 100% sure of what I wanted, i knew where i wanted it and had an idea of what I wanted... my artist was Erick and he took the time to chat with me about my ideas.. I have had two piercings done here.  Back in 2000, Tattoo Lou's was so highly recommended that I went in for a navel piercing.  I knew too many people with good experiences.In 2017 after already having a good experience, I went back for a tragus piercing.  Click was personable and professional.  I definitely recommend him for piercings and I will be back for more. So disappointed. It's not what it was 20 years ago. Went in for simple ink. The seemingly inexperienced 'artist' was unwilling to work with me and did not offer any suggestions to modify what I requested. It was like he couldn't be bothered. And then the other employees talking over him claiming the ink would 'bleed' and look terrible if it were done. I have twenty year old tattoos that have aged well because I take care of them. Worst tattoo shop. Set up an appointment with a tattoo artist named Brian and he forgot all about it. I drove ways out just to get it and the guy was clueless. I ended up not getting the tattoo from him. Poorly organized place and will overcharge for their work. My cousins experience was terrible! I wasn't there for when it got done otherwise I would have 100% brought her somewhere else. Her belly button was pierced with costume jewelry* instead of the stainless steel needed so that it won't get infected...And it DID get infected because the jewelry is creating an alergic reaction to the pierce. Also, they told her that she can't touch or move it that she can only spray the cleanser on top and leave it like that. But when you clean it you ARE supposed to move it around so you can clean all the bacteria. She can't even move the jewelry piece to clean it the right way because it's not a long enough bar to move to clean it completely. I personally have gotten mine done at another place in Ridge so that's why I know all of this. And they even confirmed everything I told my cousin when we went there. But this place didn't have a piercer at the time, so we had to go back to Lou's. And they denied EVERYTHING. They weren't helpful at all and had the rudest responses. A few months ago, I tried Tattoo Lou's for the first time. Alexx was my artist, and I immediately knew that I'd never go to anyone else for as long as I keep tattooing my body. She listens to my ideas - but also helps to improve on them, she's insanely talented, and is such good company when you're sitting for four plus hours! The shop is super clean and the atmosphere is incredible. They always have great music playing, too. I've watched as some of the other artists tattoo w...hen I sit for a long time, and I can confidently say that every artist in this shop is overwhelmingly talented. The best spot I've ever been to, hands down! Also shout out to Click for being a killer piercer and for doing things the right way, without any harmful shortcuts. I made an appt and the artist ( loosely used term) I saw told me to pick from previous drawings they have done when I told him what I wanted. a true artist would have sketched it himself. My tattoo artist is Camm from now on.. I got a gorgeous tattoo on my arm of a mommy and baby owl that depicts my little girl and I so beautifully. Her attention to detail is spot on and her work ethic, and love for what she does is stellar. I won't go anywhere else. Erick did my tattoo this weekend. It was a small anchor tattoo on the back of my neck with minor detail which cost me $130. I paid it because I already waited a decent amount of time & my nerves were already built up. Forgetting that when I got my foot tattoo done when I was 18 that only cost me $85 & was much bigger. He did a great job but after thinking about it i was way overcharged & I'm pretty sure it was because he thought he could take advantage of me since he assumed it was my first tattoo. my mistake for allowing him to & then also tipping him $20 for a tattoo that only took about 20minutes to complete. Happy with the work that was done but unhappy with being overcharged. He made out like a bandit that day & I regret paying what I did & that is my mistake but putting this out there for others to watch out and not fall into getting overcharged. You should be able to trust that your tattoo artist isn't ripping you off & is doing the right thing. Would not return or recommend. Read Less

A little late with this but my wife got a tattoo here by a guy named Jesus it was supposed to be for our son who passed away and this guy really botched the job . Well the problem was it was a large tattoo so trying to cover it up was going to be costly and the harder part was trying to find someone to do it, we went to about 6-7 different artist before we found someone that was able to cover it up. I contacted the owner(Lou) and he was cool about taking off the price of the tattoo to the new one but now it was going to cost us about 500 more than we thought. The tattoo was so bad thought we were going to have to get Laser to try and fix it (the owner was going to pay for it) but luckily we found a great tattooist that helped us. Read Less

Tattoo Lou's is a Long Island institution, and I've heard plenty of recommendations from friends and colleagues about their favorite locations/artists but never had a chance to stop by myself. (Though I did have one of their coupons in my dashboard for years).I needed to get my right nostril re-pierced. When I was checking things up online, I got the sense that Heidi was the woman to see for piercings, and luckily she was there when I decided to swing by on a whim. It was practically painless compared to my original piercing (done elsewhere), and she recommended shifting the piercing up a little, which looks SO much better.The environment was relaxed, everything was clean, and the staff friendly. Just went yesterday with my friend to get a lip piercing (friend) and a helix piercing for myself. Place was recently renovated from what I've heard. Very small shop with quite a big parking lot, so finding a spot definitely won't be a problem. The piercer (Christine) was very kind and professional. She made sure we were informed on how to take care of our piercings. Piercing experience was almost painless and she did an excellent job, and gave me what I described to her how I wanted it to look. A woman named Breezy did my piercing. Just a simple cartilage piercing next to my other one. Looked fine after I got it but, after one month of proper care, it didn't look good, two months of proper care and it still didn't look good. After three months of it looking like it wasn't going to heal I went to another piercing place and not only did they say that the piercing was on an angle, they said that the earring they used (with the spiral post) damaged my ear and that the piercing was too closely placed to the first one. Needless to say, one year later and I had to take my piercing out. There is a big cartilage bump that may or may not go down. I am left with countless hours worrying and wasting away taking care of my piercing (let alone the money I spent trying to heal it). All of this for nothing. I will not go back to this place. I recommend you do your research first because clearly you can't trust even experts. Read Less

I got my left nostril pierced here over the weekend, and it was an awesome experience.  The place is very clean and the staff is really nice and super attentive.  Heidi did my piercing, and she definitely put me at ease - I'm a bit needle-phobic, and she told me exactly what was going to happen, and exactly how to care for it afterwards to help lessen the anxiety; she also laughed at my cheesy jokes, which is always nice ;-)  I've had very little side effects from the piercing - no bruising, very little pain (there's bound to be some, of course, as a giant needle was stuck through a part of my face), and the after-care that Heidi told me to practice has definitely kept it looking good!  We also went to the Centereach location, first, but since they don't have piercers on staff there, and we had to leave and go to Selden, we actually got some money off at the Selden location! Got recommended by a friend who got her tattoo by Zhang Po (Popo) and told me to go to no other if I wanted something done. It has been years since my last tattoo and wanted a big piece done. My first session here was outstanding, everyone was super friendly and you can tell all the artists here are all like family. Place is always full so if you have an idea, go speak with an artist and make an appointment. My first session came out unbelievable, what a difference when you choose a pro. Stay FAR away from this place! I took my girlfriend here to get something she's wanted done for a long time.. and had a HORRIBLE experience with the artist. I've gotten tattoo's done by Irish Jay (AWESOME guy, the ONLY guy i'd let near me at that place)... but stay far from "Tom". This guy was a complete A**hole, and had no patience when it came to getting the drawing done the way she wanted it. Keep in mind there was absolutely no-one waiting behind us, so he had time to fix the drawings. Ended up to the point where he was being completely rude after a revision, and made her feel uncomfortable enough to be in tears. We grabbed our stuff and bolted. NO-ONE should be feel uncomfortable before getting a tattoo, so save your time and go someplace where the artists actually give a crap about making the customer happy. Screw you Tom! Read Less

Getting a Tat can truly be a life changing experience, you know these tats become yours through thick and thin and you better be d@mn sure you like it. So I came here with a friend, friendly enough staff in this little stand alone shop. My friend wanted a simple drawing of a catcher (as in baseball) the artist struggled with the tat and the size and it looks to be honest just so so. BUT what mortified me was a 17 yr old coming in with his uncle to get a distorted violent Statue of Liberty holding drug kilos, yes my yelp friends I kid you not, what artist in his right mind would dare to put a huge inked mess on a 17 yr old. SO please think long and hard before you allow a so called artist to ink you. GO some place GOOD! Read Less

I feel bad that the other commenter had such a bad experience, but my time at Tattoo Lou's was great. I went in for my first tattoo (a series of music notes on my foot), and needless to say, I was pretty nervous. Everyone made me feel really at ease - there was no sales pitch or anything - they just wanted to make sure that I was comfortable with what I was getting. I love my new tattoo, and it's healed perfectly as I followed the instructions they gave me when I left. I'm already starting to think about my next one!
