I got my double helix pierced here, one at a time on two separate occasions. First time by James and Second by Yolanda. Both were lovely and had many years of piercing experience under their belt and were very professional. James seems like a no nonsense type of dude with minimal chat which doesn't bother me, but Yolanda was supppper warm + friendly which really helps you to relax so if you are feeling nervous (I was a little) I'd definitely recommend her to help calm the nerves. Honestly no complaints about this place and can wholeheartedly recommend. The prices are good for the piercing and include the jewelry the place is clean. The people are warm and genuine, they really do run an honest operation here, you can just feel that. I tried to come back one week after my first helix after regretting not getting both done at once and the owner urged me to wait to give it abit more healing time (could have just taken my money on the spot) they also weren't pushy when I hesitated the first time around whether I should get one or two. I live around the corner from here so it's my local piercing spot, but there are a couple around here and this seems like the best in the area. I came here to get my helix pierced, and James did a wonderful job! He was very straight to the point with the procedure & even assured me that the pain of the piercing isn't too bad. He was correct--the piercing felt like a quick pinch! James maintained sterility throughout the entire procedure & even showed me how he was opening a new needle for me & how he was disposing my used needle. Friend and I decided to get a tat. We looked around other places in the area and they were charging $300 to get a mini tat!!! Village charged me $80 and my friend $90 w/o tip. Mark who operates the front desk was so gracious, patient and kind. You want those kind of positive vibes when you're going to get a tat or a piercing. Our artist was a guy named Midas and he was soooo gentle! He was through, professional, and took his time to make sure everything looked good. This wasn't my first tat, it was my third, but I was extremely nervous. Once Midas started, the fear dissipated and I walked away with a tat I really like. The first time I went to Village Tattoo NYC, it was completely on a whim. A friend and I had a couple of hours to kill and decided f**k it, why not getting matching tattoos?? The person at the front desk was super nice, and helped us pick out a simple little design. We were walk-ins (as were many of the other people who came in while we were there, it seems) and we had to wait around 15 minutes, not bad at all. We got tattooed by a guy who I believe goes by Joker. He kept the small talk to a minimum, which is perfectly fine for me, and we were outta there in about 45 minutes. He made sure to show us that the needles were brand new and that everything was spotless. He also walked us both through aftercare, even my friend who already had tattoos, and gave us a sheet with the info. He was super professional and the whole experience was pretty great for my first tattoo. It was also a pretty good price! It was $70, but even with small pieces you can't find them much cheaper than that without going to a seriously shady place. All in all, had a great experience. I went back about two weeks ago to get my nose pierced. This time it wasn't on an impulse, so I made an appointment online. I loved having that option by the way, it was super easy and there was no issue with it once I got to Village Tattoo that day. They had me pick out a stud (they had studs with stones in different colors, I opted for a plain steel one, per the worker's recommendation), warned me of how long the recovery would be, and then I was ready to be pierced. Unfortunately I don't know this guy's name, but he was also super professional. He also made sure to show me everything was clean and brand new before going ahead. He took a second to find a good placement for the piercing, and made sure I liked where it was before going ahead. He even showed me him properly disposing of the needle afterwards. Again, these guys are just so professional, and when you're essentially asking someone to make open wounds on you, that's pretty damn important. He went over aftercare and gave me a sheet and a small thing of H20cean and Provon (which I had to pay for, though i'm sure you dont have to get it if you want to get your own) and with the aftercare stuff, the jewelry, and the actual piercing, it came to $59. Again, if you decide not to take the aftercare stuff, it's $35. I know other places friends have gone to that charge $60 just for the piercing, so I had no problem paying that and made sure to tip.The tattoo healed with no problem, and the nose piercing is still healing, but so far so good! I can't say enough great things about this place. My friend made an appointment for her first tattoo and she was set up with Chris. He was so patient, kind, warm and friendly. We instantly connected with him, and I instantly wanted to work with him. The next day, I set up an appointment online for my next tattoo (which is a great feature they have!) and asked for Chris. I received an email that he wouldn't be in on the day I reserved, so I asked if he was available that day. They fit me in and when I arrived, Chris and I worked together to make the perfect design. Price: AMAZING, they gave me two tattoos for $100 total which is the cheapest I know of in the city with out putting your health and safety at risk. Service:  The guy at the front desk was great but my artist seemed quite annoyed at any attempt of conversation I tried to make which I find odd.  These were my first tattoos so I had a few questions that he seemed to treat me like I was stupid for?Finished work:  Due to the fact that both tattoos were simple tracings I was WELL AWARE that the lines may not be pristine but I was fine with that.  i wouldn't advise going here for anything that is more complex than simple lines.  My friend got a large line drawing rib piece that they had traced and it turned out great.Overall: You get what you pay for, kinda.  They did exactly what I wanted, no more, no less :) Read Less

I got my rook pierced here yesterday and I'm very glad I did. My piercer (didn't catch his name) assured me that it wouldn't be as bad as I feared, and he was right because of how quickly and properly it was done. Every step was sterile, new, and at the end, well disposed of. With my tip it was just under $100 for everything, including the bigger bottle of salt spray. This is a hidden gem in Greenwich Village! I came here on my birthday after doing some research about where to go because I knew I wanted a tattoo but wanted to make sure the place would be good. I made an appointment and everyone was super duper sweet and accommodating. They said it was gonna be like a half hour as they were going to draw my image. Each artist draws out the image by hand so definitely book an appointment beforehand and send them a picture so they have time to draw it beforehand. The pricing was also super reasonable 250$ for the one pictured below and there's an 80$ minimum. I then also had some friends who also wanted to get tattoos who were walk ins. With no problem the manager wanted to make sure we had a great experience and placed us all with the same artist. I literally googled "affordable tattoo shops in nyc" and village tattoo had the most (over 300) positive reviews. They were all accurate. Friendly staff, clean small space and affordable prices. My artist was Jimmy and I highly recommend. Don't mistake his quietness for shyness. He was so focused, and understanding when I asked to reposition the stencil. My boyfriend and I scheduled appointments online and brought print-offs of the designs and size we desired. We were given price quotes prior to receiving our tattoos (mine was $100, his $120 before tips) and then taken downstairs to receive our tattoos.The area is a little cramped but that's to be expected in New York. We both had Joker tattoo us and we're very thankful for his service. He is incredibly light-handed, quick, and detail-oriented. It took him about 40 minutes to finish both of ours, and we headed back upstairs to pay. We were even given complimentary samples of Aquaphor to keep our tattoos from drying out, which were enough for a few applications since our tattoos were so small. I got my first tattoo here today, and I had the best experience I could have imagined! The tattoo artist (Jimmy I think) was very calm and went through all the steps and after care with me. They were extremely welcoming and got me in early since I showed up early. They really worked with me to make sure I loved the design and size. Overall, I totally recommend this place, I would just make sure you get an appointment ahead of time or call in a few hours later to see if there is an opening. The shop is small so it can get crowded, but if you have an appointment you should totally be fine!! Great place and if I ever visit NYC again, I will definitely be coming back! Read Less

I discovered this place as it's around the corner from Maria Tash. Long story short my friend and I both got piercings done at Maria tash and Both of our ears got extremely infected.. Yolanda fixed my ears completely! She drained the infection out, and saved my piercings! Since then I've gotten 3 new piercings from Yolanda - I will never go to anyone else ! If I could give this place more stars I would !!!!! I have never had a better tattoo experience in my life and this is my fourth one. I was greeted by the manager and he checked me in and got me set up. I wish I would've asked his name but he was the sweetest man ever. He was extremely professional and very accommodating and sooo nice. I had to go by myself so I was a little nervous and he helped calm me down and reassured me that my tattoo artist Jimmy was the best around. ( and he was right!!!) Jimmy was amazing!!! He was very patient with me as I decided where the placement should be. I kept apologizing that I was taking so long and he kept saying no rush! He was quiet but i could tell he was so in the zone. I went to him specifically for a water color tattoo. It wasnt cheap but totally worth the money. Deff don't want to cheap out on something that's going to stay on you for the rest of your life. The whole staff was so caring. There was a girl next to me getting her rib done as well and she started feeling faint and the whole staff stopped to help her and giving her soda and candies. Made an appointment to get my ears and nose pierced. Everyone there was super kind and helpful. My piercer was funny and helped me calm down and got it over with real quick! Just be warned, they give you the supplies for aftercare and charge you an extra $25 for it. I'm very glad they did that for me, i just didn't expect the extra cost. Went with a couple of friends as walk-ins. I got a tattoo (my first), my friend got a tattoo, and another got a cartilage piercing. The shop was tiny which could have made the overall experience stressful and tense- but with the relaxed atmosphere of the shop it was still comfortable and fun.For three walk-ins on a Saturday they managed to get to us quickly and were very quick to make adjustments to the stencil to get what we wanted. There were three people working upstairs and the artists were down stairs. Two of the three working upstairs were great- but a bald white guy was honestly just a dick to everyone in the shop and even after (as he rang me up for my $150 tattoo) he hardly even acted like I was there and if he did he acted very annoyed. My friends and I were patient and quiet and polite and tipped well so I don't know what this mans problem was.My artist was SO WONDERFUL and he worked so fast I didn't manage to get his name but he was clean, explained everything, made sure it was exactly how I wanted it, and did a great job! The shop was very clean and they did a really great job explaining aftercare to me and everyone around me. They do not use guns for any piercing to my knowledge. Read Less

My roommate and I came into this parlor on a whim after just a bit of research on Yelp. We came in to get two tattoos each as walk-ins. Because it was a Saturday, I was worried the shop would be too busy or that the wait would be very long. While there were a few people inside, we were attended to very quickly and were received very warmly.Even though they were busy, the staff made sure that we were sure about our tattoos and happy with the designs/placements before we had them done. The place itself was very clean and sanitary, the staff were friendly, making the whole process much less nerve-racking.Our tattoo artist was quiet, but very detail oriented. This is hands down the best tattoo experience I have ever had! The shop was pristine! We called about 2 hours in advance after reading all of the amazing reviews they had received! When we first got there they immediately got an artist working on my boyfriend and I's different tattoos. I was "picky" according to my boyfriend but Jason (@Jbgoodtattoos) my tattoo artist heard me out and seriously created the most amazing piece! Originally I had planned just a black outlined flamingo; but we added a little pink to it. Every single person in that shop loves their job and it shows! I took a trip into the city with a good friend of mine from the Hamptons and we decided to get piercings while we were visiting. Overall the experience was good, not giving 5 stars only because of complications we both had 3 months after the piercings. Everything was done by the book in regards to the piercing. The piercer we had was very friendly and engaging. Very informative and definitely clean. I had gotten my tragus and second lobe pierced. Right away I had a lot of red crust within one hour around the second lobe piercing. Which right away was concerning, especially since the first lobe piercing I ever had which were done elsewhere, didnt developed any crust. For a while I thought I was reacting to the jewellery used, but cant verify. My tragus developed piercing bumps as well, which again makes me question whether I was reacting to the jewelry used. I thought I had taken very good care of my tragus, cleaning it every day, never slept on it, etc. Spent $200 at a walk in clinic back home because I though it was infected. It became very painful with bumps developing on both sides of the tragus piercing. But upon visiting a local piercer, to have it removed since the back of the jewelry was not accessible to remove on my own with the large bump, I was told it wasn't infected and that it was keloid scarring that developed. Tea tree oil hot compresses shrank them both down to nothing in under a week. So luckily, I was able to save the piercing and it is now fully healed. I don't want to blame the piercer, but the piercings caused me quite a bit of trouble and money! I strongly feel like maybe it was the quality of the jewelry that caused these issues. Read Less

I've had 2 separate bad experiences with body mods I've gotten at this place. The first was a couple years ago with my first tattoo. I got 3 triangles on my thigh as a walkin. The guy tattooing me was distracted throughout and I came away with 3 triangles with botched lines (some thicker, some thinner, one very noticeably not straight.) Recently, I decided to give them another chance (my friend had gotten a touch up there and it was amazing so I figured my experience was just a fluke.) I went in to get a nose piercing. It was fine at the time, but a few days later the gem sank into my nose in my sleep and I ended up having to push it back out through a layer of new skin (this is common when a nose stud isn't long enough.) I contacted the piercer who told me to come back in for a longer piece later, so I told her I'd be there early afternoon. Lo and behold, when I went to get it fixed, Village Tattoo was closed for the day. I ended up having to go to a place nearby to get the piercing fixed AND a longer stud and was told that the hole originally made in my nose was too big for the stud put into it (something that should NOT have happened.) I ended up having to pay the amount of the original piercing just to get it fixed. All in all, VIllage Tattoo has a nice staff and cleanliness going for it, but I would suggest going to any of the highly rated tatt+piercings place nearby instead. Read Less

I have been here twice and I have no idea why I didn't trust my gut and stay away after the first experience. Granted there are a lot of good reviews, but I think it's important to share my bad experience as well.The first time I visited was for a tattoo. I had a good idea of what I wanted and a few pictures that combined were exactly what I wanted. It was a small alien on my right tricep. The artist had absolutely no bedside manner. I asked him to re-draw the picture several times with the eyes bigger, mouth smaller, mouth higher up, etc. and every single time he took the feedback and slunk away without saying a word. Should've been an immediate red flag but stupid me stuck with it.When we finally got the image right, I asked him to move it placement-wise several times and he also was silent throughout the process. I'm not expecting jubilation, but at least don't be so sour about the whole thing. It's going on my body forever; of course I'm going to be a little picky!The tattooing process itself was a little more painful than I'd experienced before (but nothing insane) and I was happy with how it looked afterward. The healing process was pretty easy, BUT even after healing, my tattoo remains raised. The artist clearly worked the needle too deep and now I have permanent scarring. Absolutely horrible experience.The second time was a few months later when I still had some hope that the tattoo would eventually heal and it wouldn't be as raised. I went in for a rook piercing with a friend. The piercing experience was fine, but as soon as I looked in the mirror afterward, I was unhappy with the placement. It was pierced so far in on my rook that I couldn't even see it myself in the mirror. My friend's piercing was in the ideal spot. Again, so frustrating. And the piercing debacle didn't end there. The bottom ball of the earring fell off less than a week after I got the piercing. I went back in and got it screwed back on with assurances that it would be screwed on extra tight so that wouldn't happen again. Four months later and it's fallen out AGAIN. I could not be more frustrated. I'm even questioning if the piece of jewelry they sold me could have been defective in some way.Also, I ended up getting another rook piercing further out because I was so unhappy with the placement of the first one and the piercer at the other place was SO MUCH BETTER. It was way faster and way less painful.STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE UNLESS YOU WANT RAISED TATTOOS AND POORLY PLACED EARRINGS. Read Less

Among the best tattoo shops in New York, if not THE best. Extremely talented artists, who will not only bring your ideas into fruition but execute them flawlessly. Although you can't go wrong with this place, sh!t happens. And they are there to help you. If you ever come back with a complaint (on the rare occasion), they will take care of it at once. First of all, I'm a very squeamish person, so getting a tattoo, for me, was a huge deal. After looking for good places on Yelp and through friends, I finally decided on Village Tattoo NYC; most of my friends had come here for either a piercing or a tattoo. I made an appointment at 12 PM (right when it opens) two days prior, and got there a little early (they let you submit designs online, but I'm not sure if they get around to looking at it prior to your appointment because they are so busy). The owner of the shop was kind and funny, and recommended some tips on feeling less squeamish: to eat some chocolate and drink some Coke. After signing the forms, Chris, my tattooist, came in. I have not been able to stop raving about Chris to my friends. He truly made my first tattoo the most pleasant experience and helped ease my nerves tremendously. He was patient and soft-spoken as we decided on the design and exact location of my tattoo, and he gave a lot of good input as to whether or not the tattoo would translate well on skin. Before we began, he cracked a few jokes and gave me time to breathe and prepare myself mentally before finally going through with the tat. During the process, he initiated small talk to make me feel less nervous and made me laugh despite the pain! I liked the fact that he also had a forearm tattoo, and he could relate to the pain- it wasn't so bad after a while, though. He said it would take about an hour, but it only ended up taking about 30 minutes, and he went over it a second time to ensure he got all the lines correctly. Meticulous attention to detail, a calm demeanor, and incredibly friendly; never once got annoyed at my nervous smal talk or frequent clarifying questions. The front desk folks are attentive, helpful, and highly accomodating of walk ins. I got there at 7pm and was told I would be seen by 9pm, so I walked around the park for a bit. Mooshu was amazing and experienced. He's so nice and these were my first piercings. I got my lobes and left helix pierced and it was painless and quick. Mooshu is friendly and so good about making sure you're comfortable. For the price, I paid a total of $120 including piercing, jewelery, and aftercare. I love this place, I stopped by back in November on my first trip to New York. I got my pierced by the marvelous Mooshu. Was super friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I was a bit nervous about the piercing but Mooshu was extremely gentle that by the time I noticed the whole thing was completed. Next time I'm in new york, I'll stop by again to have another piercing added. I went here to get my first tattoo, and the people couldn’t have nicer. Chris was my artist, and he was the warmest, most laid back guy, which made the process incredibly easy and smooth (especially since I was a bit nervous). It was my first tattooing experience so I didn't know what to expect. It was pleasant... the pain was bearable and my tattoo artist Jimmy had a very calming demeanor about him so that relaxed me. The people who greeted me were also very welcoming. My appointment didn't start at the time it was booked but that was only because the person in the appointment before me fainted so they had to tend to that, which I felt like I had to mention because it further establishes that these people do care. I got two tattoos, they weren't sure how long it was gonna take so they just charged by the hour (150 per) and it ended up taking a little over 2 hours total. They give you aftercare tips and some aquaphor to start you off. You know its a good girls night out when you and your friends get lit and end up all getting piercings. That was my Friday night, good times! Went on a whim and decided to visit the nearest tattoo shop. Village Tattoo was the first to show up on Google Maps and I'm glad it did. The front desk staff was pretty nice. Note they will 100% not pierce/tattoo you if they see any signs that you're intoxicated. After finally deciding and signing some forms we were taken downstairs to meet Mooshu - he is the best! He pierced all 5 of us in different spots (spoiler alert: I got my nose pierced), and was very professional. He kept us laughing, made sure we were comfortable and explained the aftercare instructions thoroughly. If you come make sure he's your piercer because he's just overall awesome. I really love how quick to respond and polite this tattoo shop is. I sent in images of what I wanted and received a quote within a couple of hours. All the workers are warm and friendly. I lucked out and got my lotus tattoo done by Jimmy. He was so polite and patient and got my tattoo right down to the size I wanted, the placement and the image itself. He shaded it beautifully and has a really light touch and the whole process was practically painless. This is my third tattoo and the third location I've visited, but it's definitely the only place I'll go from now on. I had an appointment here back in November of 2017. I got a ragged scarecrow with a Jack-o-lantern head. Jimmy English (I believe) did the tattoo and it turned out to be even better than I had thought I wanted. Not to mention he is so rediculously gental with the tattoo gun it is unbelievable. Absolutely worth every penny if you go here. The people were very nice and welcoming, but mostly, I loooooove this tattoo. I have recieved two tattoos since visiting The Village and ne...edless to say I am disapointed with every tattoo I have after getting this awesome tattoo from Jimmy, not to mention the hurt like hell compaired to his work! I want to fly back to NYC just to get another tattoo from here. Last night my bestie and I finally made good on our plans to get semi-matching tattoos. Years ago when we met in college, we were heavily involved with working with mental health awareness organizations, and in fact she has gone on to serve as an amazing social worker. Because of this, we decided to get tattoos with semicolons, which is a symbol often used for these reasons. She decided on incorporating it to a saying her mom uses 'joie de vivre,' and I decided on a really simple cat silhouette tattoo. This is my first tattoo and her fourth, so I trusted her to make the decisions.We called earlier in the day to see if we could walk in and we were taken almost right away. The gentleman at the counter held us square way our designs and then we met Chris, who is seriously the Bob Ross of Tattoo Artists, who refined them and prepared us. Chris is a soft spoken but rad dude. He was comforting every step of the way.He warned me that I may flinch from the pain, but, once he started inking away I felt next to nothing. It was over before I realized it. He then inked my friend and was also quick with her as she had to kind of sit in a weird position. After, he went over with us the care guidelines and handed us a sheet of the information. The basement where they do the tattoo and piercing work is a bit small and cramped, but as long as you are aware of everyone working around you, you'll be fine. Okay so I'm from Austin, Texas and decided to get a tattoo last min here in the city. I found this pose via Yelp according to reviews and best decision I ever made. Called and Jimmy picked up, I told him I wanted something small and asked to help me refine it. He was super nice on the phone and made an appt with me. Went last night and the entire staff was great and friendly. He drew my tattoo out with so much more detail and really worked with me. Process took around 20 min and he is PRECISE! he was super nice during the process. Loved the detail and loved how it came back. After seeing 100 five star reviews of this business, O decided to try it, because I was too impatient to wait, and go to Big Joe's in White Plains, NY. When I found the address, I did not see any signs. I asked the man standing in front of the door of the establishment next to the address, if Village Tattoos was located upstairs? He said it is here, and he pointed me into the hallway behind him, before he indicated the sign to his right.   I walked in, and he followed me. I told him that I wanted 4 tattoos, and that I had images. I asked him if they do the tattoos in the back. He said that they do them in the basement. I asked him if I could see. He led me down into the basement. He told me to watch my head as I followed him down a stairwell that a midget would find claustrophobic. When I got down there, it looked like a dungeon. 2 tattoo artists were sitting at their stations, possibly, using their cellphones.  I can't remember how, but I was able to get back upstairs. I think that I might have asked about piercings. At the front desk, I asked the man if I could see the smallest, most discrete stud. The man showed me a package that people in the slums of Hong Kong would not sell. I asked the man how much they charged. He said $50. I told him that Big Joe's wanted to charge me $30. He advised me to go to Big Joe's.  I wanted to shake the man's hand, but then I recalled his emphasis on how they would open all tools in front of me. Before I went to Village Tattoos, I remember reading information that they posted on google, or their website, about how safety, and cleanliness was their priority, and it was repeated about 3 times in the writing.   Obviously, Village Tattoos is trying to appeal yo customers, but they are also trying to distract customers from other things...  That which one values is a reflection of oneself, and if that which one values is below standard, and one praises it, what can we assume?  This was the first time that I have been to this area, and it will be the last, even if Scarlett Johansson is luring me to follow her. This was my first time going to Village Tattoo, and I went here to get a snug piercing, which is a pretty hard part of the ear to pierce. Many times people pierce them incorrectly so I wanted to go to a very good piercer for this piercing, and I heard good things about this place. When I went, everyone was really friendly and I was helped right away. You need to sign a waiver and show them your ID ( you need to be 18 ). Then you go to a separate room to get pierced/tattooed and everything is super clean. The guy who pierced me did it really fast, and it didn't hurt that badly for such a thick piece of skin. Great tattoo experience here. This is my third tattoo but my first at village tattoo and so far in the city they have been way overpriced (but well done). Here the price was very reasonable for a small wrist tattoo and it came out great. Jimmy did an amazing job. He was quick but without rushing. It is a pretty small place so downstairs where they tattoo could probably get cramped when they're busy but I had no issues. It was super easy to book an appointment online the day of, but I feel like I prefer talking to a specific artist and having a longer consultation to really get across what I want. So I came here to get a super small cute girly tattoo in honor of my cat who died last year. I had been thinking about it for five months and was super sure I was ready but was still scared as hell for my first tattoo. I spent some time looking on instagram and online for really good tattoo artist who's work I liked. When I saw Jimmy English's stuff I was sold and knew I had to come here to see him. When I finally got up the nerve to make the appt. they told me they had an opening the same afternoon. I rushed into the city and was a puddle of sweat when I finally got in from the heat and nerves. The staff was friendly despite my clear tattoo virginity and had me email them a photo of my idea and fill out some medical/legal paperwork. I had initially gone in hoping to get two tattoos (one on the inside of my finger) but the artist explained how it's a bad area for fading and possible blurring etc. so I decided to hold off on it. I appreciate him being honest rather than leaving me with a mess since i'm a newbie to this. Within probably 15 minutes I was in the tiny downstairs area getting a transfer of the image I chose on my wrist and checking placement.I really had no idea what to expect in terms of pain but I was really surprised that it wasn't as bad as I had imagined at all. That said i'm sure huge tattoos that take hours must not be as easy as my tiny one. I was really happy with the end result and was wrapped up and on my way with care instructions before I knew it. The tattoo was only $80 which was also a good price for permanent body artwork-the shop minimum is $60. Almost two weeks later my tattoo has healed nicely and looks great as I continue the healing/Aquaphor regimen. I'll definitely be back for second and third (this really is addicting). A friend and I came here to get tattoos this week, he was a walk in and I had an appointment. They were super accommodating with the fact that I was 30 minutes late to my appointment (NYC traffic) even though they were busy. The guys at the front behind the cashier are super fun and really helped calm down my friend bc he was getting first time jitters. We were both tattooed by Jimmy and it was a great experience and we're both more than happy with our tattoos. The shop minimum is also 60 here which you literally can't find anywhere else in the city except maybe the sketchy shops you shouldn't be going to. Great price, great artists, overall only good things to say. Definitely recommend this place but make appointments they can be busy (their shop is a little small and they also do piercings). After reading all of the other reviews about Village Tattoo, I felt confident choosing them for my nose piercing! Was excited to work with the famed Yolanda who - as everyone has said- was funny? relaxed and confident, walking me through the piercing (my first, ever) step by step. She explains the process and her tools, showed me the sterile needle and it's expiration date, as well as when she disposed of said needle. I was in and out in 5 or so minutes, and there was surprisingly little pain for what I was expecting. Brief moment, basically just enough to bring a tear to my eye, but not enough that I wouldn't consider another piercing immediately: Yolanda gave me detailed care instructions and a cleaning kit, and I paid $59 for everything. These guys are fantastic. The place is clean, friendly has lots of great jewelry and related items and everyone is extremely knowledgable and caring. The difference between upstairs (the shop) and downstairs (the studio) are so different but again, the place is super-super clean (my main concern) and the staff very conscientious and friendly.Yolanda was the woman who did my ear piercing and was gentle, kind, cool and again very knowledgable. I had had them pierced a bazillion years ago by one of those stud guns in a mall in the midwest, and man did that hurt. I took them out years ago so this was round two. Yolanda discovered that they were not completely closed so this time - nothing. She was able to gentle open them and insert titanium studs.  I'm about as big a baby as there is when it comes to pain and I felt nothing!The manager, whose name I unfortunately forget, was also incredible. Knowledgable, friendly, concerned about things being done and handled right, super conscientious, welcoming and just cool and friendly in general - as was the rest of the staff too.I would pretty much only go back here if I wanted another similar type of service.Lastly, and I don't know if this is typical, though they were pretty busy, we did not have to wait long at all and waiting was very comfortable. Was so impressed with the service from the time I arrived until the time I had left (which was a bit past closing time.) Incredibly nice, caring, professional, thoroughly informational, super-hygienic place & staff (I spoke to Mark by phone earlier before coming in), which didn't try to rip me off but instead only charged me for the products I purchased AND the piercer also used one of the jewelry pieces that I'd brought in that was purchased elsewhere. I have two tattoos, and I got them both here. The first one I got two years ago, and I got the second tonight. I could not be happier, and will be back again when I get my third! Chris is OUTSTANDING!!!!I was a last minute walk in from the pouring rain...I had gotten a signature on my arm from a celebrity and wanted it tattooed. I had literally picked this shop out of a lineup knowing nothing about the team or environment. I was NERVOUS, but I knew that due to the rain, this signature was about to be a big smudge if I didn't get it done right away. So I took a chance, and am glad I did!!!! Not only did Chris and the entire team welcome me with open arms, but they were professional and really took their time to make sure I had the best experience possible from the moment I walked in until the moment I left. They showed me the different ways to tattoo the signature (tattooing over the sharpie or taking a photo and using that as a stencil)  to going online first to look for the same signature in other scenarios to ensure that every minor detail in the tattoo was represented.  During the tattoo Chris explained the process thoroughly so that I knew exactly what he was doing, technique he was using...etc....making me feel completely comfortable. Had a wonderful experience today at Village Tattoo. It was my first experience getting pierced in NYC and I will definitely be back. After sitting on it for a few years, I decided today would be the day I got my nose pierced. Wasn't really nervous about it, and was in the West Village and saw that this was the place to go.Walked in and was helped immediately. Signed a waiver (with photo id) and quickly met my piercer, Yolanda. She showed me my jewelry choices and I made my selection. She led my boyfriend and I downstairs to the studio (watch your head! I'm 5 foot and had to duck!). The ONLY thing that weirded me out about Village was that their piercing and tattoo room serves many customers at once. No privacy at all. Was near many other customers and their guests. Luckily I wasn't having anything too intimate done, so it wasn't that weird. There was music playing and an overall friendly atmosphere.This place is spotless. Everything was sterile, and Yolanda took extra care showing me the unwrapped needle with the expiration date. She went through the whole procedure, explaining to me every step, what I would feel and why it was done. Everything was sterilized and cleaned and handled in a swift manner.The piercing itself was seamless. Very little pain. Yolanda made sure all of the bleeding stopped, I was okay and feeling comfortable before leading me back upstairs. The whole process took less than 10 minutes. Upstairs Yolanda talked me through the aftercare and provided me with the necessary supplies in addition to a sheet with instructions. I felt confident leaving.Was also impressed by pricing. Not seasoned to NYC prices but it was $20 for the labor, $20 for jewelry and $15 for aftercare supplies. Very affordable in my opinion. Can't recommend Yolanda enough! The owner is the nicest guy you'll ever meet he stayed open till 3:30 in the morning when they close at 2 in the morning just so my friend who's birthday it was could get his tattoo done. We had traveled from New Jersey and all we wanted were tattoos!! Chris who did my tattoo was so amazing, my mother recently passed away so I wanted to get a tribute tattoo for her and he made me feel so comfortable and at home that I had no doubt in my mind that I was going to go forward with it even though it was in a painful area on my ribs. Came here to have my upper ear lobe pierced. Everything went well! I decided on this place after much research, I needed a place that was clean, professional, and established. Village Tattoo met all the criteria! The receptionist is just the right amount of friendly. My piercer Yolanda was great at easing my fears and making the situation fast and as painless as possible. She showed me the new packaging of the needle and threw it away in a needle receptacle. My upper lobe piercings are perfectly even despite my uneven lower lobe piercings that were done as an infant. It was a little more pricey more than I anticipated... 80 dollars for two lobe piercings. BUT HEY you can't put a price on clean! I was sent home with aftercare products, no need to buy them separately as it is included in the price. Yolanda explained with great detail on how to care for my piercings. Even though I visited Village Tattoo a while back, I still have lots of positive feelings about my experience there. While I haven't been to other tattoo parlors in new york, I'd definitely say that if you want to find a regular place, or get your first tattoo, this is an excellent choice.They have an online scheduling system which allows you to make a reservation here, so it's not a bad idea to check out their website before deciding on something. That said, if you have a clear idea on what you want to get, or if you're only shopping for ideas, it's totally fine to simply walk in here. You might not realize it at first when you walk in that this is a place that does tattoos: they have all kinds of trinkets and jewelry (or bling?) on the ground floor when you walk in. Actually, there's very little to suggest that they do tattoos here. However, the tattoo operation is entirely on the lower floor. You should definitely remember to bring a photo of the design or text you want to get. While they do have a computer and it can print, it'll make the entire process much faster. If you get text tattoos, they have a set of fonts that they'll probably show you. I'd frankly ask for a recommendation, because it's pretty hard to visualize what text will actually look like on your skin until it's already there.If possible, ask for your tattoo to be done by Jimmy. Despite his glowing reviews, it was actually chance that I got him. From another dude, he is an exceedingly cool person and I'd definitely like to be his friend. He's incredibly professional, super cool, and very good with talking you through the whole process. My work only took about 30 minutes, and despite the speed, didn't suffer at all in terms of quality. Ladies beware: at the time he told me he was engaged, so that boat has sailed.The work cost me $180 (I can't remember if this was inclusive of a $20 tip or not), but either way it's well worth the money. You can also buy wax for your tattoo for the post op or a anti bacterial soap, but if you buy it beforehand, you can save yourself some money since I'm sure there's a slight markup if you buy it at the store (if you are interested in the products they carry at this store, you can shoot me a message and I can send you the information). Called to see if they had time to fit a walk in from Maryland in their already very booked schedule. Was in town for the weekend visiting my sister who lives in the area and she suggested that I go and see Jimmy since I wanted water coloring some. Sent in a picture of what I wanted and a brief description of the size and placement. They contacted me within 30 minutes to confirm and were very professional and reasonably priced. Boy was I pleasantly surprised and honored to meet this kind, professional, and quite man who knew his craft very well. Jimmy had worked with my sister about three weeks before and her piece was executed flawlessly! It was a tribute to our grandmother who recently passed away and Jimmy definitely made sure to bring that tribute to life. Jimmy was very clean and professional as was the manager and the young lady who went over incidentals with is. I now have 20 tattoos total and before Jimmy I have never felt more comfortable working with any artist. I have never felt comfortable trusting any artist to follow my vision directly as I communicated through email. The coloring was excellent, his technique was skilled, and he took his time making sure I was satisfied with what I was paying for. I would definitely recommend Village Tattoos and specifically Jimmy if you're looking for quality work. Thank you to the management team and to Jimmy for his great work and for tolerating my gawking. This place is cute. I accompanied a friend while they were getting some piercings done.As a person who has MANY tattoos ( shout to All Wolves No Sheep in Brooklyn) I am always extra judgmental of tattoo/piercing places. The thing that I appreciated the most about his place was the knowledge of the piercer. From picking out jewelry to actually piercing I appreciated is ability to respond to all questions and give thoughtful answers. The only one aspect of this place i was not a fan of was the actual piercing/tattoo area. It was tiny and down stairs in the basement. The staff is totally amazing and Chris did amazing work on my tattoo today. He made me feel comfortable and made sure that I was happy with the work. He was really sweet and paused to see if I needed a break or anything. I will definitely be going back soon to get another piece or two that have to do with my kids. Awesome experience!This was my first tattoo ever and Chris did an excellent job. He worked with the materials that I provided and was extremely patient with me. He's also very meticulous and took his time. I really appreciated that. We chatted a bit during the process. Otherwise, there was barely any pain during and after the session. Got a walk in tattoo the other night, my third tattoo but first here.  The quality of the work is 5 stars, hands down.  In fact, I may make this my new place.  I came in and was given a time slot.  When I went back the man (young, black) who worked with me to design what I wanted (very simple text) was awesome.  The guy in charge (white dude with an accent, possibly the owner) was also super.  I met the artist (Alfonso?  Alfons?) briefly after the design was finalized.  Dude had ZERO personality.  I don't need you to be my best friend but when I tell you the man said fewer than 5 words to me I'm serious.  It was probably 2.  He made the stencil and called me down.The quality of the work and professionalism of the staff is an easy 5 stars.  The experience as a whole is a 4.5  The reason is that I am a fainter and I didn't realize that the room was so tiny.  Two other people were being worked on, luckily I could sit so that I didn't see them.  Because other people's blood?  I'm down for the count.  They should let you know what you're walking into, especially because the stairs are super steep and then it's like, "HELLO!"  Luckily my station was close to the front and I had my back to one dude.  The girl next to me I just didn't look at.The stencil was placed perfectly and the work was quick.  And super precise.  He asked once if I was okay (I totally was) and worked quickly.  Maybe it's because there were other people in the room but the lack of any sort of interaction was really bizarre.  It could also be that the type of tattoo (handwriting) requires more attention.That said... I have never had a tattoo heal so well and quickly and it was well worth the price (which was lower than I thought it would be).  I would recommend this shop to anyone and plan on going back.  I have a long list of planned ink and I believe that when you find a good shop you gotta be loyal.
