I did a lot of research when looking for a place for my first tattoo and someone recommended RBI and I emailed them asking for some more info. Gere responded quickly and was super kind! He asked me for details about what I wanted, gave me the Instagrams of the artists, and helped me set up my appointment. I decided to go with Miko because I was getting a small, fine lined tattoo and she seemed to be best at that. When I got to my appointment, she was very meticulous with her station and cleanliness - which is something I thoroughly appreciated. She sketched out my tattoo and asked me a lot of questions to make sure it was exactly how I wanted it to look. I was super nervous the whole time but she helped me stay calm, asked me if I was okay throughout, and asked if I needed any breaks. Honestly, it didn't hurt at all! I visited Red Baron Ink a while ago for a tattoo, and I can't say enough good things about my experience. I'm sorry for this review being so delayed! My tattoo was done by Max Growick and it was his design. Also in the room tattooing was Sam. Max was super professional, clean, knowledgeable and passionate about his craft. At one point, another artist who was new, Miko, needed assistance and he politely excused himself for 1 to 2 minutes to happily help her. They commented quickly about how much they liked the piece Sam was working on. The professionalism, support and kindness among these young artists is great to see. I follow the shop and a few of the individual artists (I believe Max is no longer there) on Instagram and I'm always impressed by the work posted. I'm always willing to pay whatever I have to for a great tattoo, but the prices here are not astronomical and in my opinion the work and environment are excellent. I love the piece (thanks, Max!) and hope to return to the shop and possibly their new location soon to check it out. I highly recommend paying a visit. I've been to this shop for 4 tattoos total now, and they continue to be amazing. I went to Laura Bochet for 2 watercolor tattoos in August 2016 and had a wonderful experience. She took my ideas and came up with the most beautiful watercolor layout for both. They still look bright and vibrant 1.5 years later. Just yesterday I went back, this time after seeing Jef Agyagi's sketches on the shop's instagram. I wasn't even planning to get a tattoo, but after seeing his sketch, I knew I had to have it. I also asked him to draw a custom piece along with it. His linework is absolutely stunning, and I'm already planning on getting more pieces from him. I've been to a number of shops in NYC for tattoos, and this place is nothing but the best. Now that they have two locations, they have such a diverse team that any style of tattoo you need, they can do. These guys are AWESOME! Very professional, clean and welcoming environment which was a must for a first timer like myself.After showing my idea, I had initially requested Grant (the owner) to do it. Once he saw my idea, which is circular in nature he recommended Sam, who does good circular tattoos as circles wasn't his strength. I thought it was really cool that he recognized that and referred another artist that had the strengths needed to do the work justice. The booking process was very smooth. Basically I walked in with my idea and got an artist recommendation. I came back a few days later since the artist wasn't in on the initial walk in and booked a time with her. Got a cover up done a month and a half ago by Jef V. Scheduling went far easier than I anticipated, as I'm someone out of state. The shop was super clean, tools seemed very well kept, and it was made a point to clean surfaces, and clean them again. Everyone I spoke to was super friendly and welcoming. The day of the tattoo I could feel the camaraderie between artists Grant and Jef, and the receptionist Giselle. During the time I was there not once did I feel unwelcome as I was invited into the conversation between artists, and another client, as well as being checked in on often. As a newbie and almost 40-year-old, I made sure I did lots of research before choosing a tattoo parlor in my hometown of NY. Ultimately, I went with Red Baron because (a) my husband, a tattoo enthusiast, recommended I check out their work and (b) I absolutely fell in love with Sue's artistry. I went last Saturday, two days after a snowstorm had hit NYC and the temperature had dipped into the teens. I arrived and was greeted with enthusiasm. Giselle, who booked my appointment the day before, offered a sweet snack and water, while Sue sketched my tattoo and Sam worked on artwork for her client. After a few minutes, I was rolling up my sleeve and getting ready for my experience. The process took an hour, but I barely noticed. There was an amazing vibe in the small shop and we all chatted about different topics, from Dominican moms to weird subway experiences. When Sue was finally done, I was incredibly happy. The details and shading of my rosemary leaf tattoo were so beautiful.  I can't stop admiring her work. It's been a week and I've received loads of compliments. I arrived on the day of my appointment early - I was commuting in via trains and did not want to chance being late. Sue was already there, as well as Giselle, Grant, and Max. Every single one of them are down to earth and just generally good people. They want you to be there and they want to talk to you. They even gave me a few suggestions for which artist would be a good match for an idea my friend had in mind. Sam arrived early, so we got started a little early. She showed me her design and we had a quick discussion before she went back to sketching away. Once she was satisfied with the design, we began. I feel it's super important to stress JUST how clean they are. Everything from the table to the toolbox to the lamp was wiped down and covered with plastic. This is one of the things you really need to look out for in a shop and I must say that this shop takes pride in every single aspect of their work and it's something undoubtedly respectable. We got started and Sam was great. She kept checking in and reassured me that I was doing great (not moving, remembering to breath, etc). Giselle, Grant, Sue, and Max all kept coming over to watch her work. Their comments on how great it was coming out were so reassuring (not that I didn't trust Sam, but because it was my first piece!!!) The piece took about 4 and 1/2 hours with some breaks in-between. Sam did a beautiful piece on my thigh. In fact, it was so good, when i got home later, I cried. It is more than I could have ever imaged. Her line work, her color saturation, and her attention to detail in impeccable. I cannot wait to return there and have any of the artists there work on me. I went to RBI once before to get my first tattoo with Janice and it was an amazing experience! She did a fantastic job! But, I was told she moved to a new location by Giselle, however after checking through instagram and telling Giselle exactly what I wanted, we both agreed that Sam was the perfect choice. My mom and I wanted matching tattoos and decided to go in for a consult. Sam was so patient with us and so understanding when we were trying to figure out exactly what we wanted. Sam designed our piece and we fell in love with it! She is so talented and nice, as is all of the other artists that work there! I believe I met all of them on the day of the tattoos! The place is very clean and well kept. The music was also bomb, I have to say. Definitely a comfortable place to get a tattooI have to say, what I loved most was that the artists made recommendations based on anatomy, age, and career. One boy came in to get a hand tattoo when he had no others and was very young. Grant, the owner, explained to him that they never do first tattoos on hands and neck unless he client had many others and was career established. The boy had no idea and in the end went with something on his wrist. I loved that. Many others probably would have tattooed him on his hand just for money. But here, the artists truly care about each individual clients. Overall my mom and I were there from 1:30-7:30 and neither of us could complain one bot about our experience. First of all, let me say that Sam Roldos was a pleasure to work with.  She listened well, gave me good advice on placement, did a perfect adaptation of my design idea, and was just a very likable person to be around for a few hours.  And her work was gorgeous.  A real artist.  Max was also great.  He helped me out to figure out a reschedule after the overall operation botched my appointment (the only reason Red Baron is not getting 5 stars).  I made an appointment and gave a deposit over a week in advance.  On Friday night, heading into a holiday weekend, they unilaterally changed my appointment to a time I couldn't do (by email, which I didn't see for over 24 hours).  I wasn't able to reach anyone or get a response by email until the time they had told me I was supposed to be there.  Needless to say, I was pissed!  Luckily, Max answered the phone when I called, talked me off the ledge, apologized, figured out that Sam wasn't aware of the time changes anyway, and it all worked out perfectly!  Both Sam and Max are young, but definitely pros in terms of customer relations and artwork.  This was my first tattoo, so I can't judge in relation to other studios, but the price seemed reasonable and hygiene good. My experiences with both artists as well as the entire staff at Red Baron Ink has been nothing short of amazing. They put so much passion into their work and it shows in the final product. Hands down the best tattooing experience I've ever had. Grant and the rest of the shop are all super nice and I'm so stoked about my tattoo. Everything healed really smoothly and I have gotten so many compliments on it. I was hesitant to navigate the city because I'm terrible with directions but I'm so glad I did, and I would do it all over again (wasn't that bad). I get my second tattoo there last sunday with Janice and it was a relatively nice experience all in all. I recommend it if you know what you want, such as is it a fine line or geometric figure, as they have different artists who are better in different types of tattoo. You can get in touch with them via email which is convenient if you can not make it to the shop beforehand. Particularly best thing about the shop is Janice's work and talent. She was a nice tattoo artist, with a professional and clean work. I like my tattoo which is a fine line tattoo, and it is healing nicely so far and the process of getting it was smoother than I thought thanks to her. Some suggestions for this shop to improve customer service: you can accommodate the customers in a more friendly manner when they are in the shop, especially if you are aiming for being a high level tattoo shop, as treatment at the shop is as important as scheduling and arranging things before the process. The way people feel about the shop afterwards getting the tattoo will increase the chances that they will come back to your shop - not to the artist particularly. RBI is a great tattoo shop. I was recommended to check them out by a friend when I told her I was looking for a shop. After seeing the work done there on their website I immediately wanted an appointment. I emailed them with a reference pic of what I wanted with a short description and my availability and I heard back within the hour and had an appointment with Sue set up for within a week.That said, the work Sue did was beautiful. I had originally thought I wanted color in my tattoo but after meeting with her I decided to go with her idea to do the piece using black and grey. The piece she did is elegant and original and I will definitely return to RBI in the future.  Also, the atmosphere in the shop was great. There were two other artists there and another person getting tattooed and it was friendly and comfortable. They played good music and they have good people. Just had my tattoo done by Janice, and her work far exceeded my expectations. I asked for a somewhat unique design, and she absolutely crushed it. Her line work and level of detail are insane, and she is truly talented in her art. Other than that, the shop was nice, the people were friendly, and it was easy to make an appointment. Grant knocked my tat out of the park. I came in with some really high falutin overly complex ideas and he helped to rein in the concept for me. I have visited this establishment four times already. I've had two cover ups and two new skin tattoos, one of which was a portrait. None of the four tattoos were in the same genre but ALL of them came out above expectation. I am truly pleased everytime I leave with my new ink and I recommend the shop and Grant to everybody I speak to. I haven't even had my tattoo a month and I have been telling all my friends to get tattooed here.Firstly I'd like to say this is definitely the shop you go to when you have a unique piece of work in your mind. That tattoo that you want to collaborate on with an artist. If you want a copy/paste image from the internet or some quick flash, that's totally cool but this place is not where you go for that.Secondly, the shop is small, but I really liked that about it. Not sure why some comments try to twist that into a negative. It's not like larger shops where people are constantly coming and going or interrupting your artist to chat. The setting is intimate and calm, which I found to be great when you're trying to sit for a 5+ hour tattoo. Third, it is pricey. Definitely the most expensive tattoo I have. But! It is easily the most beautiful and after it's healed I can see that these colors are going to pop for a very long time. Totally worth it. Laura, Grant and Giselle are lovely human beings. When I came in as the shop opened, they made me feel like a welcomed friend right off the bat. They were easy to chat with, made with some great jokes, and even let me pick the Pandora station. My artist was Laura and her skills with watercolor are amazing! When she was making suggestions to me and creating the stencil, everything she came up with was exactly how I wanted it to look but didn't know how to put on paper. Sunflowers are my favorite and her execution was spot on. It felt like Laura understood my personality right away when she decided to put in a bunch of bright colors to offset the flower. I have lost count on the number of compliments I have gotten from this piece. They book months in advance so my suggestion to you is to take your tax refund and go make an appointment as soon as you can. Your tattoo will be beautiful and the experience will be a good time too! I really really love my tattoo from Red Baron Ink. Laura worked hard to create a design that I was formulating in my head for a while now and she brought it to life. Everyone was really nice to me during the whole process especially Grant. He made jokes and made everything feel more comfortable. The thing that kept me from rating five stars was the feeling I got when I left. I felt a really awkward and uncomfortable vibe when I left and during the procedure. I just felt that even though everyone there was nice to me, they didn't really like me. Even when I walked in I felt like Laura didn't really like me. Maybe it's me just being insecure. I just had the feeling that when I left maybe they were relieved to have me gone. They also didn't post a picture of my finished product on their site when other people from that same day got posted. Was my design not good enough to be put on the page? I think Laura and everyone wasn't feeling too good that day and maybe that's why it seemed they didn't like me very much. I'm not sure.  I know that things come up but even if I'm feeling like the world is crashing Down on me I still have to wake up and go to work. I work at a nail salon. I have to be nice to customers and give them the best quality service they deserve! And they aren't paying over 100$ an hour for it. I also traveled to them from Boston and I took two days off of school in which every day's curriculum is very important. I just wish they knew what lengths it took me to get there and how excited...then let down I was. (Purely with the atmosphere) Even though my experience was really uncomfortable, I would still recommend anyone to get a tattoo from them. Their artwork is beautiful but I think they need to get a grip on the customer service. I think my tattoo total was around 450$ and I paid a $100 tip. Whatever it was it was more than 25%. Not that it matters, but I feel that maybe they weren't as nice to me because I was young and felt awkward in the environment I was in, but that doesn't mean I should be treated any differently. This isn't a personal attack on any of the artists at this shop in any way, I just wanted to truly express how I felt during my experience here and what I took away from it. Best tattoo parlor in NYC. Shop is intimate and welcoming, and Grant, Laura, and Giselle are all a delight to spend time with! But more importantly, any art from Grant or Laura may be the best you ever invest in. I had a botanical illustration in mind and Laura totally brought it to life - I can't stop staring at it! While she was working on me, I watched Grant work his magic on another client and I just felt in awe of the talent and skill I had stumbled upon in Red Baron's teensy little home. Plus, during a particular painful part of my tattoo, Giselle offered me starbursts to chomp down on... sounds silly but it really, really helped!Bottom line: they're masters of their craft, and just downright wonderful people. Grant and Laura are great people to hang out with, especially when you are getting your first tattoo.I popped into the store in March and booked an appointment to have a watercolour piece of something to be determined (i.e. I had no idea what I wanted). Giselle (Grant's wife and co-overlord of the place) let me know to email her any ideas I had before my late May appointment and she'd pass it on to Laura.The artists here work on their concepts for you the day of, which I think is great since it allows for an in-person exchange of ideas. She talked me out of getting a small double pair of wings and placing it in the middle of my back; as she puts it, "I don't want to give you a pair of chicken wings-I want to give you a pair of fierce wings. Chicken wings are good to eat but not to look at." And what she said made a lot of sense, given that she explained that the back is a large canvas and I should think carefully about placing things there, and that the artwork should complement the flow of my body.We settled on a single watercolour wing closer to my ribs.She whipped up the sketch and mentally noted the edits before we began. While setting up, she advised I get something to eat and drink, especially since it was my first time.Laura was great in checking in with me to make sure that I was all right. The pain wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but then again, I expected it to be excruciating so anything is a step up.I was completely in love with the finished piece and followed the care instructions.Total cost came up to $450 with Laura, and I added a nice tip afterwards. The $100 deposit placed when making an appointment goest directly to paying down the balance.There was a bit of a photoshoot to get some promotional shots of both Grant and Laura working for an upcoming expo; they maintained their professional composure, which kept me calm and unfazed by the photographer.Oh, and they let me pick the TV channel; I watched four hours of Criminal Minds and nobody complained. Laura and Grant are both killer- as is Giselle- in making you feel comfortable- and clearly LOVE what they do. I sent the shop a couple photos of water color flowers that I liked- and got a fast response from Giselle that Laura was the one for me. I couldn't have agreed more- he watercolor work is out of this world. I arrived at the shop on Saturday morning to Laura, Grant, and Grant's client for the day. Everyone was laughing and having fun- a killer atmosphere to spend the day in. Laura and I talked- and she then got out her watercolor paints, and brushes- and painted me a custom watercolor painting of tulips- and put it on my arm. I have a large watercolor hydrangea that she did an awesome job of working with to make my arm look  cohesive. The shop is super clean- and FUN. Laura is light handed, and super friendly. Very professional and incredibly beautiful artwork by Grant. I was the lucky winner of a free Instagram contest tattoo. Ended up getting more than what I expected and I could not be happier about it. I would absolutely recommend this shop to ANYONE who's willing to get inked, whether a first timer or not.
