I can't recommend this place enough - I got a gorgeous piece from Diego yesterday. We had a quick consultation about a month ago and then I was booked in for an appointment. His work is amazing, his hand is light, and he has a very calming energy, so I was much less nervous than I've been in the past while getting tattooed. I am so disappointed with my experience. I had heard a few bad reviews about this place before hand but I like to go off of my personal experience so I still gave it a shot. This place is full of such talented artist and the price in my opinion is well worth the quality of work they offer but what made it horrible for me was their customer service and their attitudes. It's so off-putting to be so excited about your tattoo and then have the people who work at the shop ruin the excitement. I had done a lot of research on artists in New York and became a big fan of David's work so i decided that I would like him to do my tattoo. I set up a consultation, met with him and the vibe from that first experience made me unsure if I wanted to go through with it because he didn't seem interested. But i was still such a big fan of his work that I decided to go through with it so I emailed them telling them that i want to schedule an appointment. We set a date and when i get there the guy at the front who I had never met told me they set me up for a consultation when I had proof in my email that it was for a tattoo appointment. The guy told me that David hadn't finished the sketch he told me he would have done and it was just sooo disappointing. Got my first tattoo with Diego. Had an appointment well in advance. There few schedule changes, but they let me know well in advance. It was slightly inconvenient but that's life. Experience was all good.  I read some of the negative reviews and yeah the staff wasn't falling over themselves to wait on you hand and foot but nor were they unwelcoming. So after a ton of research and many searches on Instagram I finally decided to come here. First and foremost I have been tatted before so this isn't my first rodeo. I believe that this shop is actually awesome. I emailed Sebastian in regards to a memorial piece of my therapy dog. He responded pretty quickly, gave me a price and an exact estimate of how long my piece would take. I put my deposit in and set my appointment.The day finally came on 1/2 and I was super scared and anxious because it was a very meaningful piece. I already assumed Sebastian prefers black and gray pieces over color but he created my dog with a watercolor background and a really pretty flower and I was done! Wanted it on me ASAP. I'm just happy he didn't turn it down due to the fact I wanted color. Now because I researched (unlike others reviewing) I knew my artist also preferred Spanish speaking clients as he is more comfortable speaking in Spanish. He does speak English though so if you aren't a patient person then just don't get tattooed with him... that simple (all I have to say in regards to that)Now he put so much attention to my piece that even the stencil he put on my looked like my baby. I Literally held back tears. He made sure even the hairs that used to cover her eyes showed in my piece. Once it was all over, yes it hurt! All tattoos hurt so once again someone telling you if it hurts or not should not steer you away from the shop (common sense you're paying for someone to scratch ink into your skin). Once it was done he cleaned it very thoroughly, put second skin on it and explained the healing process to me very throughly and he even told me to come back so he can take a professional picture of it on Monday (1/7). I ended up DMing him on Instagram on 1/3 because my second skin had way to much plasma under it (for myLiking) he told me to come over and he'll change the bandage for me! He didn't have to do that but he took pride in his work! So all I can say is that I'm extremely happy with my piece and I will go back once I think of something else to tatt on me. The staff is nice, receptionist was kind. I just feel that if you're getting tatted then DO YOUR RESEARCH. They all have Instagram pages that show their art and they all seem to be very attentive. I'm pretty bummed about my experience... the tattoo came out great but the cost was astronomical and my tattoo artist didn't speak English. This was my first tattoo and it was a small bird about 2 inches in length and 1 inch in width. How on earth could that cost $200 vs someone who gets a big tattoo in 1 hour for the same price? I feel like I was taken advantage of for sure. I had emailed several times throughout the day and they told me I didn't need an appointment but just to come in instead after work. When I got there she had to "find" an artist for me because no one was available (although 2-3 were just sitting there). I was asking questions to the receptionist about the pain and how much it hurt in different areas. A tattoo artist took it upon himself to jump into the convo from the back and dismiss my questions entirely - "yeah, yeah it hurts everywhere" and so on. Thanks, didn't need his sarcasm or opinion. It was my first tattoo and I was nervous and had every right to ask as many questions as I wanted.It took 6 minutes from start to finish (my friend timed it). The guy who did my tattoo was nice but he didn't speak English... after he finished he told me i should keep the clear sticker on it for 3-4 days and the lady at the front desk would tell me the rest (through pointing to upstairs area I interpreted this). She told me to leave it on for 2 days. So which one is it? With no clear after care instructions, I just googled it myself and asked a friend.The place was clean and nice but the cost was offensive and I 100% agree with another user that the place was unwelcoming - they just stare at you and judge you from afar. I felt like a total outsider and was embarrassed to be there, feeling like I didn't belong. But maybe I should be embarrassed - after all, I did just paid $200 for 6 minutes of work by someone who doesn't speak English. Read Less

I emailed first class tattoo in August asking to book an appointment with Dmitry or Mikhail for the artist's own interpretation of a trash-polka style design I had created of a flower. I provided specifics of what I wanted and attached my design. They emailed back that Dmitry was interested and that I should come for a consultation so that he could give me an accurate price estimate and finalize all the details and that he would be ready to do the actual tattoo in December.I went in for the consultation later that same month. Dmitry had never bothered reading the email, so he said he would look later and I gave him all the specs on what I wanted, including things from tattoos he had done that I loved and wanted him to incorporate. He was slightly less dismissive after finding out that I already had ink and that I'd done my research and liked his style. He said a design would be done and presented to me when I came back in December and we could make any changes and do the tattoo that day. I put down a $200 deposit.I came in today for my tattoo on time. Dmitry sat and chatted with another artist for 20 min while I waited for him. When he came over he asked me what I wanted done. I had to explain the entire thing and make him read the email with all the information about the tattoo again. He didn't apologise for not having done anything. Then he left and came back 40 minutes later with a design that was a computer generated polka dot pattern in a box and cut-and-pasted photos from the internet. Probably ten minutes of work to throw together, but fine, he said it was just a mock up. I didn't like the placement of the flower or how stumpy the stem was or the circular pattern he chose for the polka dots. When I asked him to change those things he kept giving me reasons he wouldn't. Profound reasons like "that's boring". He edited the photo a few times, but since he was only half-listening they weren't the changes I was asking for. Finally, when I tried explaining what I wanted for the third time, he said that this goes in his portfolio and he thought what I wanted would look bad, so he didn't want to make any changes. I told him this was going on my body permanently and he had said I could make changes and I wasn't going to do anything I wasn't comfortable with. So he walked away and told the woman at the desk he wasn't working with me and she gave me a refund.I'm so upset that my time was wasted like this. Don't have me email detail if the artist isn't going to look at it. Don't have me come in for a consultation if the artist is just going to forget and slap something together on the spot. Don't tell me I can make changes if you are going to be married to a design you threw together with cropped pics from the internet. Don't tell me your portfolio is more valuable than my body. You aren't doing this for free for experience, I am paying you to provide a service. What a disappoinment. Read Less

I looked around for years before finding what seems to be the perfect shop. Three sessions so far with the incredibly talented Mikhail and I cannot imagine a better experience. Everyone is calm and polite. Great atmosphere with music hitting just the right vibes where I don’t even wear headphones. I’ve seen most of the artists consult with clients and the way they listen and come up with amazing designs is mind blowing. The shops other clients always seem to be nice people ...to strike up a conversation with while you wait on designs or for outlines to dry. Went in because I found an artist I liked (Hira Lupe) via her instagram account. I really love her work, and I wanted something original that was her style. I emailed her for a consultation, came in and we chatted for a bit about the idea. I didn't want to be too directive because I wanted to make sure the piece really reflected her style and creativity. I came in on the day of my tattoo, and she sketched everything out, worked the composition on my chest and shortly after, she got to work. Hira is an absolute pleasure to work with. While her work speaks for itself - I have to note that she is professional, ensures you have everything you need and checks in with you along the way. This shop is really great. Everything is organized and CLEAN. I can't state enough how neat and clean the place is, which is super important to me because nobody wants to spend hours getting their skin pierced by needles in a place that isn't immaculate. A review for the shop and artist. The Shop:When you enter the shop you instantly think, clean. As a germaphobe, I have a hard time feeling comfortable in certain places, especially tattoo shops. Especially tattoo shops in NY. This place has changed my view. Although, it's not the most welcoming place on earth, everyone starts to warm up to each other, making you, ultimately, feel more comfortable. Hey, that's just New York for ya! The artist:Hunter was my artist and he made the whole experience better. I was doing some research on Instagram and yelp and stumbled across his page. For someone who's been tattooing for a shorter amount of time than most, his work is phenomenal. We had to get fairly comfortable with each other very fast because of the placement of my tattoo, but it didn't feel awkward or uncomfortable. Hunter remained extremely professional and made sure, not to demand, but to ask if it was okay to disrobe certain areas. He would, also, constantly ask if I was doing okay and even made sure the teddy bear I brought with me was okay. Although, I'm pretty sure the bear felt more pain than I did from the biting and squeezing. (Haha). It's great that he had a sense of humor about it. Nonetheless, I appreciate Hunter's sentiment and down to earth nature. At first I was a little hesitant on working with him  because he wouldn't allow me to see the ideas for the design over the internet, but he did allow me to come in the day before the appointment to make changes and make sure it was exactly what I wanted. Diego is a pretty chill guy, his art is fairly unique. what sucked was the first time I did my sleeve he took multiple smoke breaks, which i was cool with, but the more he did it the longer the tattoo would go on for, and in the end I ended up paying him 150 dollars more than the agreed price because we went over an additional hour, on top of him being 35 minutes late for our appointment. The 2nd time I came in, he took 20 minutes before we met, he met with someone during the tattoo, and seemed so unmotivated to do much, possibly because he was getting over a cold, which once again I understand but it's unfair for me to pay as if you're performing your usual best, you see rather then make use of the time he just dragged on and tattooed slower than usual, so I still paid 600 for what was supposed to be 3 hours of work. Hourly does not always equate what these artist put in. On top of that some of the staff really do not feel welcoming, they just look at you and do not say anything. I appreciate the art I have which is something I will not discredit, but if you're gonna have a permanent mark on your body, you'd want to at least associate that kind of experience with cool people. I was traveling the states from Australia recently and had in mind a tattoo that I wanted to get while I was in New York. Obviously once I started looking for the right studio, I was bombarded with options as NY is full of amazing studios, however I am convinced now that I chose the right shop to get the job done. I got a beautiful piece from Diego Romay. I went in with a concept that was kind of vague/a little weird and Diego turned it into an absolutely stunning work of art. The detail in particular is superb; I could not be happier. Diego was also really great during the tattooing process -- we had a long session (almost 7 hours) and he was really good about taking breaks and pacing the work so that the more painful areas got done first.  The shop itself is very clean and everyone there is very friendly and professional -- you can tell immediately that they take their art very seriously.This will be the first place I look when I'm ready for another tattoo. Great service! I came across first class tattoo when I was walking around that area with my husband. Out of curiosity I went into the shop- it looks modern, professional, clean and relaxing. This shop is amazing! I have been looking for a while now at different shops in New York. I had a friend who received a great tattoo here in the past and was impressed. I came in on a weds night for a consultation with Led. He was really easy to communicate with and asked detailed questions to make sure he got the concept. After that I book my appointment with Tom at the front desk for the next weds. I was obviously a little nervous coming in for my appointment but the vibe i...n the shop is so calming and makes you feel really comfortable. Led showed me his design, which was exactly what I was picturing in my head. We played a around with the positioning a little to make sure it was in the perfect spot and then he got to work. I got my second tattoo from Hira Lupe and I could not be more happy or impressed with her style and artwork. I came in with a concept and a few elements for what I wanted, and she ran with it! It was a 5 hour session with stories, a few laughs, and a lot of ink. The shop is very clean and organized. They maintain a very professional appearance. They are also very welcoming. Hira is such a sweet person and the rest of the artists are friendly. Most of the artists charge $200/hr but for the amount of work and passion I got from my session it was worth it. I will never go elsewhere - they are clean, professional, friendly, talented, and, most importantly, clearly a family. This is an exemplary shop, I frequently get tattooed. I noticed immediately how clean the shop was - sterile. I felt comfortable when I came in, not ignored or rejected (a feeling I've felt in other shops). This is a serious shop with serious artists. Very professional. I had been looking for weeks to find an artist that did some awesome black and grey realism. Thankfully I saw Led's work, he tattooed me from just about the minute we both got to the shop till around close. I found this shop because I follow Laura Bochet on Instagram. She is really an incredible artist, and I hope to get work from her one of these days. I recently got a piece from Diego Romay that I thought would really fit his style. He is amazing. His work is gorgeous, he is extremely creative. I got a magnolia branch going down my arm and also on to the top of my shoulder. He used a stencil for the flowers and freehanded the branches. It looks incredible. I'm getting endless compliments from everyone who sees it. The front desk staff was very friendly, and the shop had a calm vibe. Everyone is really just getting tattooed together in a big room, so there was definitely a bit of comradery with everyone very interested in seeing everyone else's work.There's a really nice diversity in artist styles here, and they're all highly skilled--even the apprentice Hunter! I honestly hope to come back many times to receive more work from Diego and from the other artists in the shop. Read Less

I've known since I was 11 years old or so what I wanted my first tattoo to be. The question then was where on my body and what style. Over the years I was able to determine that it would be in one of two places and that it would 110% be watercolor - but 'imperfect' watercolor. In perhaps the most "New York" of ways, I saw someone opposite me on the subway car (the 6, if it matters) with a fabulous watercolor tattoo that had vivid colors, beautiful brush strokes, and the most ...awesomely raunchy sketchy linework. It was captivating, and I knew that in a place like NY that this person's tattoo could have come from literally anywhere in the world. Of course I approached this stranger from across the way - but only after we both ended up on the same subway platform to transfer trains toward Brooklyn. The answer as to who did this amazing piece? Laura Bochet. A year passed and I still couldn't forget her name,or stop thinking about this tattoo and so finally I decided to muster up the courage to set up a consultation. In the time that I sat with Laura, I felt like she listened to me. To the story that I had in mind for this tattoo, why it meant so much to me, and that it represented SO MUCH pain, trauma, and most importantly - triumph. She was willing to do the piece, a watercolor lotus with that grungy, sketchy outline to tell my story of overcoming so much ugliness and roughness around the edges to be the beautiful flower erupting from my core. Since I was a little crazy choosing where I put my first tattoo (my lower sternum), Laura was patient, kind, and listened when I had concerns. We broke up the tattoo into two sessions - outline and color, because I simply couldn't sit through it all at once. The end result was a tattoo that tells a story, my story, that even in ink wasn't easy to get through. They say after you get your first tattoo you start wanting a million more. What an incredible experience we had at First Class. My husband and I were referred to this studio by a friend of ours that had work done by Dmitry. My husband and I were both looking for artists that could bring our concepts to life. From the time we first emailed the studio about setting things up, we were greeted with nothing less than stellar customer service. Skylar paired us each with an artist based on our concepts/inspirations and she was spot on. My artist, Diego Rom...ay, took a few images I liked and a 30 minute conversation and turned it into an incredible piece of art-- one that I never could have imagined or created on my own. This isn't my first tattoo, but it is certainly my best both in process and execution. By that I mean his hand is so careful and his technique is so good that often I could not even feel the needle. Mikhail is THE MAN. Amazing at what he does, but knows the value of a dollar and won't rip you a new one just to get tattooed by him.
