He made me feel so comfortable while getting the tattoo and when he was done he was very clear about after care instructions. The tattoo is exactly what I imagined. 100% recommend.

Brought my mom here because the reviews were good (neither of us have gotten a tattoo before) and she wanted to get a tattoo. We walked in and both men were tattooing so we began to walk around and look at the wall art. After about 5-10 min the artist towards the back asked us if we needed help to which we replied that she was going to take a look at the rest of the art first. When she was done looking we weren't sure what to do as both men were busy tattooing customers so we sat down on their benches. After waiting for another 20 minutes or so, a mom and her daughter walked in and the artist in the front, who never said a word to us, quickly asked them if they needed help once they walked through the door. He then proceeded to inform them on the wait time and instructed them to fill out a form. Guess he just didn't like the way we looked or something I don't know. Needless to say we left and wouldn't return or recommend.

This review is for piercings only..I've been waiting to post this for a while just to see how my piercing would turn out. I recently told my friends that I wanted to get my rook pierced and that I didn't feel like driving all the way to Hawthorne to get it done. I mentioned I'd go to Modern Age since it was local- all of their responses were basically, "i wouldn't do that..". Well, foolishly I read recent Yelp reviews and the general consensus was that the piercer at Modern Age was good. I went in with my sister so we could get ear piercings. Halfway through placing a needle in my ear, the piercer tells me how much she hates doing rook piercings because they're so difficult to work a needle through. Great timing. While she was very nice, and claimed to have decades of experience, the whole thing was a little unsettling. She did it "cleanly" but not sterile- meaning she wore basic gloves and used a new piercing but it was not done in sterile fashion with bacteria free tools or gloves. I also got to choose from one of two kinds of piercings and she said all piercings weee done with one size gauge needle and could not be done with a thinner needle (not sure if anyone else can attest to that).Long story short, it's been almost two months and my ear is still inflamed and tender to the touch. I can't sleep on that side. I've done salt water soaks, applies tea tree oil, cleaned with alcohol, etc to no avail. I am going to take the piercing out today. I gave two stars because my sister got a second piercing on both lobes and had no issue of infection like I did.Do yourself a favor and go to Pleasurable Piercings in NJ- I should've taken my own advice bc all piercings I've done there were done professionally and healed perfectly.

I docked them a star because I had originally gone on a Friday and she wasn't there - she is only in the shop on Saturday - Monday, I believe. From what I saw on the website, it doesn't say the piercing shop operates on a different schedule than the tattoo shop. I will definitely return if I decide to get any more work done.

They did exactly what I wanted. Great place to go if it is your first and you are nervous. They both made me feel at ease. I love my tattoo's and for someone who would never think of getting one, I am on my 4th and certainly not my last. I highly recommend them. Just do it:)

To the Massachusetts person; Jamie Ellen below (um your not a LOCAL guide here your a tourist) who got an earring, I'm not sure why they are so bitter, as you picked out the jewelry, so you should blame yourself for not telling them which jewelry you wanted duh! I've switched jewelry within a day of getting my septum pierced just fine (i don't recommend it when a piercing is new). (Got that back in day in NYC with large ring& wanted smaller ring in, I'm sure your capable of putting your own body jewelry on, right Jamie) Piercer @Modern Age is awesome, everyone there are licensed professionals. No one is racist there, trust me.I'm darker too and i stick to black & gray rather than color ink. So yes, depending on skin tone, color may not show well. Your saying you wanted it recolored (color fades in general & for those of us who are darker it's best to stick to black & gray). What irrelevant questions did he ask? Starr, since you r sour & not knowledgeable of tattoos u wouldn't recognize relevant questions. Time, Sun fades color ink etc. I think your upset with the cost.

He asked me questions that had nothing to do with my tattoo, he basically implied that the color would not be shown on my skin. When I first had my tat done the color was vibrant. You can compare my complexion to queen latifah or Oprah, and he tried to say I was too dark. Then to top it off, he said it will be 200-300 DOLLARS....ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! that's how much it cost me to get it done in the first place. I will spread my experience there to everyone I know because it was NOT pleasant. I will never step foot in there EVER AGAIN.

It was one of my first so at the time I didn't think anything of it. I have had three other in this time and they have been a much easier process. They gave me a bead that was too large, probably so the piercer had an easier time putting it in, that is constantly falling out. my other earings have no problems and have been in for months.

This is a review basically just for Bobby Meyers that works here, I haven't met anyone else. I've gotten a fresh tattoo, a complete coverup and had an old tattoo reoutlined, shaded and added to on separate occasions all by Bobby and I am very happy. He did an amazing job on my fresh tattoo, I mean he even captured the look in the eyes of the face I had done and he was only going by a picture of a drawing I printed out.Very impressive. I had been recommended by a friend of mine to request Bobby and I'm glad I did. I say I'm done with tattoos at this point but who are we kidding here, of course I'll be back. I highly recommend Bobby to anyone looking for an artist.

Just a bit disappointed with my experience... I'm a local but I made a mistake of getting a tattoo done as a walk-in. I wanted something fairly simple done (shading to cap off my shoulder), I felt I was overcharged; mind you I have been to four different tattoo artists and two different parlors and for some reason this tattoo came out sloppy. The entire process didn't feel right from the beginning...The lining up top just isn't tailored to my body it literally looks like somewhere drew on me with a sharpie. I stated clearly that I did not want any ink on my trap/neck area and there are 3 small lines that run about an inch wide. At this point i'm going to spend more money either getting a tattoo to cover it up or getting it removed.

Looked at a few places before deciding on Modern Age for my first tattoo and I'm so glad I chose this place. Even though my design was super simple Jimi never made me feel that way. He took the time to explain and suggest a few different things. The shop was clean, the employees were professional and my super simple first tattoo is perfect and meaningful and exactly what I wanted. He got the handwriting perfect, even with the few tweaks that he needed to do. I smile every time I look at it. Would 100% recommend Jimi and this shop.

Ok, I've wanted to get my rook pierced forever but I was afraid because I've heard it's one of the most painful piercings. One day I decided I was just going to do it. I looked up piercing places and this one seemed to be pretty decent so I headed over. The guy who did my piercing was nice and made sure the earring was gonna be where I wanted it. The first red flag was that the guy DID NOT STERILIZE THE EARRING BEFORE HE PIERCED ME. Obviously I should have said something but I assumed he knew what he was doing. Then, after the earring was in my ear, the man was struggling to put the earring back together and rustling with my new piercing. So immediately when I got home I tried my best to clean up the piercing and after the first 3 days everything was totally fine. I know how to clean piercing and I know I did everything right. On the fourth day with my new piercing, I was in excruciating pain all day. I knew this wasn't normal and so that night I took I picture of my ear because I couldn't totally see it in the mirror. It was swollen and there was pus leaking from the piercing. I started to lose hearing in my ear and I had enough of the pain so I took the earring out. I went to the emergency room and now I'm on antibiotics. I'm not sure about their tattoo department but for sure don't go here for a piercing.

DON'T GET PIERCINGS HERE! I'm almost convinced this woman isn't even actually licensed, she's rude and not good at what she does. The jewelry quality is horrible as well. She gives you EXTERNALLY THREADED JEWELRY! On brand new piercings!!! I'm extremely lucky my belly button didn't get infected, but it is lopsided. My nostril was pierced VERY incorrectly, on an angle, and healed very very weird so I had to take it out, as it looked horrible. At the time of piercing I asked what kind of metal it was, and she didn't know. She also got pissed off that I asked what gauge she was piercing me at, and what gauge the jewelry was. My sister on the other hand, got her industrial here. (At the same time I got my nostril) and within a week it blew up, and she was almost hospitalized from the infection. She was 14, by the way. The day after she was pierced we had gone back to show the piercer the infection and she said to TAKE IT OUT!!! And anyone who knows anything about piercings knows to NEVER take out an infected piercing because it will close and trap the infection inside your body. She still has the piercing, and a year later she went to an actually reputable place and had them change her jewelry to a shorter bar that's internally threaded, and only after that, did it finally start to heal. I know many other people that this has happened to from this place, and I'm honestly surprised no one has sued her, and she's still allowed to pierce. My sister honestly would have died if she took out her piercing like she said, because that's how bad the infection was. Never go here. For your own sake.

I was in town and wanted to get a tatt Ive been thinking about. It was late but I called and they let me do a walk in... They were busy with other people when we walked in but they got to us in a pretty quick amount of time so I was happy to get in the chair and get started. (It helps to already know what you want when you walk in)Bobby was done first, so he took me and quickly got started on my back tattoo. It came out great, and not too painful. (Bobby was super quiet, I guess he was focusing.)After I was done my daughter got hers done by Jimmy. He was great, he listened to her ideas and quickly drew it up. He drew a beautiful lily for her and customized it the way she asked. He was alot of fun, very friendly and playful..he really made the moment memorable. As far as cost, they were a bit expensive, but they came out great and I focused on the quality instead. Overall, this was a great experience, and I would recommend either one for a tatt.

Last month I stopped by Modern Age to talk to Jimi. I wanted to tattoo my left ankle with Hebrew writing. I showed Jimi some samples and he assured me that he would be able to do it. I wanted the word "Shalom", which means "peace" written in Hebrew lettering. We made an appointment for the next week. I was pleased when Jimi told me that he looked up the Hebrew word on line to get some ideas. I love the result. More tattoos? I'm 66 years old my friends don't get it! Maybe just one more?

All the work they have done has always came out good and I have never needed any touch ups. Years after the work is done the colors are still good. I wouldn't go anywhere else to get any work done. Rob took a lot of time with me. I probably made him crazy but he didnt seem to care at all. When we finally got it the way I wanted it, it was nearly 3 weeks. All for the most perfect strand of barbed wire and the coolest anchor ever tattooed on someone. The final result was even much better than expected as Rob put his own talent on the details. Amazing job. I will be posting pics and HIGHLY recommend them.

I came to Modern Age when my cartilage ear piercing that I got elsewhere became infected. I was a little turned off when I first walked into the shop, because nobody was there to greet me or even let me know how long I'd have to wait to be seen, so I docked a star for that. Carmen was great, removing my original piercing and replacing it with a new one, talking to me and letting me know what she was doing each step of the way. I did notice in another review that she had asked the reviewer to hold things for her - she did ask me to open a bag for her, but she had already put gloves on so I figured that was the reason, and it really didn't bother me at all. It's been 2 days and my ear is healing really quickly. Definitely worth the trip.

He made me feel so comfortable while getting the tattoo and when he was done he was very clear about after care instructions. The tattoo is exactly what I imagined. 100% recommend.

Brought my mom here because the reviews were good (neither of us have gotten a tattoo before) and she wanted to get a tattoo. We walked in and both men were tattooing so we began to walk around and look at the wall art. After about 5-10 min the artist towards the back asked us if we needed help to which we replied that she was going to take a look at the rest of the art first. When she was done looking we weren't sure what to do as both men were busy tattooing customers so we sat down on their benches. After waiting for another 20 minutes or so, a mom and her daughter walked in and the artist in the front, who never said a word to us, quickly asked them if they needed help once they walked through the door. He then proceeded to inform them on the wait time and instructed them to fill out a form. Guess he just didn't like the way we looked or something I don't know. Needless to say we left and wouldn't return or recommend.

This review is for piercings only..I've been waiting to post this for a while just to see how my piercing would turn out. I recently told my friends that I wanted to get my rook pierced and that I didn't feel like driving all the way to Hawthorne to get it done. I mentioned I'd go to Modern Age since it was local- all of their responses were basically, "i wouldn't do that..". Well, foolishly I read recent Yelp reviews and the general consensus was that the piercer at Modern Age was good. I went in with my sister so we could get ear piercings. Halfway through placing a needle in my ear, the piercer tells me how much she hates doing rook piercings because they're so difficult to work a needle through. Great timing. While she was very nice, and claimed to have decades of experience, the whole thing was a little unsettling. She did it "cleanly" but not sterile- meaning she wore basic gloves and used a new piercing but it was not done in sterile fashion with bacteria free tools or gloves. I also got to choose from one of two kinds of piercings and she said all piercings weee done with one size gauge needle and could not be done with a thinner needle (not sure if anyone else can attest to that).Long story short, it's been almost two months and my ear is still inflamed and tender to the touch. I can't sleep on that side. I've done salt water soaks, applies tea tree oil, cleaned with alcohol, etc to no avail. I am going to take the piercing out today. I gave two stars because my sister got a second piercing on both lobes and had no issue of infection like I did.Do yourself a favor and go to Pleasurable Piercings in NJ- I should've taken my own advice bc all piercings I've done there were done professionally and healed perfectly.

Came to get my nostril pierced by Carmen, who was great. She was very friendly and knowledgeable and she made the experience much less daunting. I docked them a star because I had originally gone on a Friday and she wasn't there - she is only in the shop on Saturday - Monday, I believe. From what I saw on the website, it doesn't say the piercing shop operates on a different schedule than the tattoo shop. I will definitely return if I decide to get any more work done.

They did exactly what I wanted. Great place to go if it is your first and you are nervous. They both made me feel at ease. I love my tattoo's and for someone who would never think of getting one, I am on my 4th and certainly not my last. I highly recommend them. Just do it:)

To the Massachusetts person; Jamie Ellen below (um your not a LOCAL guide here your a tourist) who got an earring, I'm not sure why they are so bitter, as you picked out the jewelry, so you should blame yourself for not telling them which jewelry you wanted duh! I've switched jewelry within a day of getting my septum pierced just fine (i don't recommend it when a piercing is new). (Got that back in day in NYC with large ring& wanted smaller ring in, I'm sure your capable of putting your own body jewelry on, right Jamie) Piercer @Modern Age is awesome, everyone there are licensed professionals. I've recommended to friends.

No one is racist there, trust me.I'm darker too and i stick to black & gray rather than color ink. So yes, depending on skin tone, color may not show well. Your saying you wanted it recolored (color fades in general & for those of us who are darker it's best to stick to black & gray). What irrelevant questions did he ask? Starr, since you r sour & not knowledgeable of tattoos u wouldn't recognize relevant questions. Time, Sun fades color ink etc. I think your upset with the cost.

I went in there to get my tattoo RECOLORED. I am a person of color, the guy at the front was not interested in helping me out AT ALL. He asked me questions that had nothing to do with my tattoo, he basically implied that the color would not be shown on my skin. When I first had my tat done the color was vibrant. You can compare my complexion to queen latifah or Oprah, and he tried to say I was too dark. Then to top it off, he said it will be 200-300 DOLLARS....ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! that's how much it cost me to get it done in the first place. I will spread my experience there to everyone I know because it was NOT pleasant. I will never step foot in there EVER AGAIN.

It was one of my first so at the time I didn't think anything of it. I have had three other in this time and they have been a much easier process. They gave me a bead that was too large, probably so the piercer had an easier time putting it in, that is constantly falling out. my other earings have no problems and have been in for months.

This is a review basically just for Bobby Meyers that works here, I haven't met anyone else. I've gotten a fresh tattoo, a complete coverup and had an old tattoo reoutlined, shaded and added to on separate occasions all by Bobby and I am very happy. He did an amazing job on my fresh tattoo, I mean he even captured the look in the eyes of the face I had done and he was only going by a picture of a drawing I printed out.Very impressive. I had been recommended by a friend of mine to request Bobby and I'm glad I did. I say I'm done with tattoos at this point but who are we kidding here, of course I'll be back. I highly recommend Bobby to anyone looking for an artist.

Just a bit disappointed with my experience... I'm a local but I made a mistake of getting a tattoo done as a walk-in. I wanted something fairly simple done (shading to cap off my shoulder), I felt I was overcharged; mind you I have been to four different tattoo artists and two different parlors and for some reason this tattoo came out sloppy. The entire process didn't feel right from the beginning...The lining up top just isn't tailored to my body it literally looks like somewhere drew on me with a sharpie. I stated clearly that I did not want any ink on my trap/neck area and there are 3 small lines that run about an inch wide. At this point i'm going to spend more money either getting a tattoo to cover it up or getting it removed.

Looked at a few places before deciding on Modern Age for my first tattoo and I'm so glad I chose this place. Even though my design was super simple Jimi never made me feel that way. He took the time to explain and suggest a few different things. The shop was clean, the employees were professional and my super simple first tattoo is perfect and meaningful and exactly what I wanted. He got the handwriting perfect, even with the few tweaks that he needed to do. I smile every time I look at it. Would 100% recommend Jimi and this shop.

Ok, I've wanted to get my rook pierced forever but I was afraid because I've heard it's one of the most painful piercings. One day I decided I was just going to do it. I looked up piercing places and this one seemed to be pretty decent so I headed over. The guy who did my piercing was nice and made sure the earring was gonna be where I wanted it. The first red flag was that the guy DID NOT STERILIZE THE EARRING BEFORE HE PIERCED ME. Obviously I should have said something but I assumed he knew what he was doing. Then, after the earring was in my ear, the man was struggling to put the earring back together and rustling with my new piercing. So immediately when I got home I tried my best to clean up the piercing and after the first 3 days everything was totally fine. I know how to clean piercing and I know I did everything right. On the fourth day with my new piercing, I was in excruciating pain all day. I knew this wasn't normal and so that night I took I picture of my ear because I couldn't totally see it in the mirror. It was swollen and there was pus leaking from the piercing. I started to lose hearing in my ear and I had enough of the pain so I took the earring out. I went to the emergency room and now I'm on antibiotics. I'm not sure about their tattoo department but for sure don't go here for a piercing.

DON'T GET PIERCINGS HERE! I'm almost convinced this woman isn't even actually licensed, she's rude and not good at what she does. The jewelry quality is horrible as well. She gives you EXTERNALLY THREADED JEWELRY! On brand new piercings!!! I'm extremely lucky my belly button didn't get infected, but it is lopsided. My nostril was pierced VERY incorrectly, on an angle, and healed very very weird so I had to take it out, as it looked horrible. At the time of piercing I asked what kind of metal it was, and she didn't know. She also got pissed off that I asked what gauge she was piercing me at, and what gauge the jewelry was. My sister on the other hand, got her industrial here. (At the same time I got my nostril) and within a week it blew up, and she was almost hospitalized from the infection. She was 14, by the way. The day after she was pierced we had gone back to show the piercer the infection and she said to TAKE IT OUT!!! And anyone who knows anything about piercings knows to NEVER take out an infected piercing because it will close and trap the infection inside your body. She still has the piercing, and a year later she went to an actually reputable place and had them change her jewelry to a shorter bar that's internally threaded, and only after that, did it finally start to heal. I know many other people that this has happened to from this place, and I'm honestly surprised no one has sued her, and she's still allowed to pierce. My sister honestly would have died if she took out her piercing like she said, because that's how bad the infection was. Never go here. For your own sake.

I was in town and wanted to get a tatt Ive been thinking about. It was late but I called and they let me do a walk in... They were busy with other people when we walked in but they got to us in a pretty quick amount of time so I was happy to get in the chair and get started. (It helps to already know what you want when you walk in)Bobby was done first, so he took me and quickly got started on my back tattoo. It came out great, and not too painful. (Bobby was super quiet, I guess he was focusing.)After I was done my daughter got hers done by Jimmy. He was great, he listened to her ideas and quickly drew it up. He drew a beautiful lily for her and customized it the way she asked. He was alot of fun, very friendly and playful..he really made the moment memorable. As far as cost, they were a bit expensive, but they came out great and I focused on the quality instead. Overall, this was a great experience, and I would recommend either one for a tatt.

So many pieces of art come this place. Bobby helped a friend in desperate need of a figure cover up. He took his time with us. We were bouncing ideas off each other. He now has 2 tattoos instead of just one. Amazing job! It became something that means so much to him. Will check in when we go again. And I'll post pictures.I've have 2 of mine done there.

I got my first tattoo last year. Jimi was very patient and helped me design my rose which I put on my right ankle. I was very satisfied with the result. Last month I stopped by Modern Age to talk to Jimi. I wanted to tattoo my left ankle with Hebrew writing. I showed Jimi some samples and he assured me that he would be able to do it. I wanted the word "Shalom", which means "peace" written in Hebrew lettering. We made an appointment for the next week. I was pleased when Jimi told me that he looked up the Hebrew word on line to get some ideas. I love the result. More tattoos? I'm 66 years old my friends don't get it! Maybe just one more?

This place is great. They do amazing work. I have had all my tattoos done here and have been going there since shortly after they opened. All the work they have done has always came out good and I have never needed any touch ups. Years after the work is done the colors are still good. I wouldn't go anywhere else to get any work done. Great staff and excellent work.

Jimi fixed up a tattoo I already had and he did a great job. I'm so much happier with it now. He did exactly what I was hoping for and it turned out great. He was easy to talk to and made me feel as comfortable as I can be with a needle jabbing me lol. I would definitely recommend him to anyone and I'm so glad I went to him.

Rob took a lot of time with me. I probably made him crazy but he didnt seem to care at all. When we finally got it the way I wanted it, it was nearly 3 weeks. All for the most perfect strand of barbed wire and the coolest anchor ever tattooed on someone. The final result was even much better than expected as Rob put his own talent on the details. Amazing job. I will be posting pics and HIGHLY recommend them.

I came to Modern Age when my cartilage ear piercing that I got elsewhere became infected. I was a little turned off when I first walked into the shop, because nobody was there to greet me or even let me know how long I'd have to wait to be seen, so I docked a star for that. Carmen was great, removing my original piercing and replacing it with a new one, talking to me and letting me know what she was doing each step of the way. I did notice in another review that she had asked the reviewer to hold things for her - she did ask me to open a bag for her, but she had already put gloves on so I figured that was the reason, and it really didn't bother me at all. It's been 2 days and my ear is healing really quickly. Definitely worth the trip.

I love modern age tattoo. I never think to go anywhere else. honestly. it's because of Jimmie; he's the best. he's done 6 of my tattoos, 3 of which were designed by him. he listens to what I want and always designs exactly what I describe. his lines are crazy clean, his designs are great, and he's hilarious. I don't trust anyone else to do my tattoos. thanks jimmie!

jimmy did my tattoo. it was my first one and is about 13 inches wide across my back he did an amazing job and i couldnt be happier with the results. it was money well spent
