This review is for piercing only--I don't have any experience with their tattoo artists. The piercer is very professional and takes his work seriously, and is a nice guy to boot. The experience of consulting and having my options explained, and actually getting pierced was easy and marked by good communication and service. The level of cleanliness is high, which is obviously a hallmark of a good piercing operation. Rob pierced my septum while I was up in the finger lakes region for my honeymoon. The process was quick and painless, the shop carries high quality, implant-grade body jewelry, and Rob did an awesome job piercing my crooked/deviated septum perfectly straight. I have had such good experiences here! I got 2 tattoos here by Todd and he was so nice and patient with me when I was freaking out and acting like a 12 year old. I just got a piercing done today and also was kinda freaking out, but Rob was very nice and also it didn't hurt at all!! I went here for a few piercings and loved them! So naturally, when I decided to get a tattoo, this was my first choice. I went into the shop and talked to Amanda about a design and she told me she would have it ready in less than a week. Well, two weeks went by and I hadn't heard from her, so I emailed to check up and she said she was still working on it and would get back to me soon. After another few weeks went by, I emailed again to check in and she said she could get me an appointment for the next week. Great!... I thought. This place is really great! I got my first piercing ever here and the process was fast, quick, and easy. They use needles to pierce (not piercing guns like Claire's) which they open the packet in front of you and everything goes into a biohazard bin when you're done, so it is very clean. The whole piercing process from walking in to walking out took about 30 mins. I took my daughter to get her ears pierced and we never even got past the front door. I had called twice to ask about how this worked and they never told me anything about bringing ID for my child or for myself. I did bring mine and had a copy of my daughters passport. They wouldn't accept it and were jerks about it. I left with a very disappointed 6 year old. For what they charge for ear piercing, $75 and up, their customer service needs a lot of work. At the recommendation of some friends who have gotten all manner of tattoos and piercings done here, I just got my first tattoo last week with Scott. Right from the beginning of the process--when I emailed Stiehl's some pictures to explain what I wanted--everything was a breeze. Scott made a drawing based on what I'd sent and emailed it back to me, and it was literally perfect. On the day of the tattooing, I was super nervous, but Scott made me feel safe and calm. He told me everything that was going on, and he clearly has a lot of experience as well as passion for what he does. The place was nice and clean, too! It was quicker and cheaper than I had expected, but this was clearly not due to any sacrifice of quality or professionalism. I've been here twice and was less than impressed. The first time, I had my nose pierced. I was a walk in and they said they had time to do the piercing. After waiting 2 hrs they finally said they were ready for me, when I went back they were clean, I'll give them that. The man that pierced my nose was rude, and made me feel like I was a huge inconvenience even though they said they had time. The second time dealing with them, I emailed them my thoughts on a tattoo and asked for a rough pricing and draw up. They said sure no problem, and we even emailed back and forth a few time finalizing ideas. He said he'd get back to me within 3 weeks with the draw up and price, it's been 2 months and I haven't heard a word. I've emailed TWICE and had no response. I went to another tattoo artist and had my tattoo drawn up and paid for in 3 weeks time. So overall: yes, they were clean and had plenty of selection of piercing jewelery (although overpriced compared to other places) BUT they were unfriendly, made me feel like an inconvenience and out right stood me up. I've had 2 tattoos done at Stiehl's, 1 from Scott, and another from Amanda. I'm currently working with Amanda on my 2nd tattoo from her. She's absolutely amazing and they all do beautiful work. I'd been to other shops where they wouldn't listen to what I personally wanted and more what would look good next to their other work, but everyone at Stiehl's will listen to you in what you want out of your tattoo. I'm more lenient on the kind of tattoo I get, but my friend got her nipples pierced and they were very reassuring to her and helped to make sure she knew everything she had to do to take care of them. I've had a few ear piercings done at Stiehl's over the years and have always been very pleased. When my Mom asked where I suggested for my 92 year old Grandmother to have her ears re-pierced after her original piercings had ripped through her earlobes, I immediately thought of Stiehl's. I wasn't with them when they went, but my Grandmother was absolutely thrilled with her experience. She said the "gentleman" that pierced her ears was professional and treated her "like a queen." I've gone to Stiehl's for four of my piercings total, all of which have been done by Robert. He is absolutely wonderful, as is the rest of the staff! Everyone is very friendly, and the shop is clean & sanitary. I've seen some others complain about pricing, but I definitely feel the pricing is very fair. The jewelry is all very high quality (BVLA, NeoMetal, etc.), so I wouldn't expect the prices to be "cheaper." (When it comes to piercings and tattoos, you get what you pay for- it's your body! I highly recommend.  I've had 6 piercings done here and 1 tattoo and I can't say I would go anywhere else.  The piercers and tattoo artists walk you through everything that they're doing to make sure you're knowledgable, know what they're doing, and know that they're keeping everything clean and sterile for you to avoid any infections.  They always give you what you need to clean your new tattoos or piercings which is included in the price of the piercing.If you have any questions about your new piercing you can walk right in or email them.  They always respond pretty quickly to emails and if you provide all the details they know exactly how to answer it.  Its a very clean and sterile place.  Needles are brand new for each customer and jewelry is always cleaned before use.  If you're in the area, go.  Everyone that works there is super friendly and knows what they're doing! I get all my piercings here (have gotten my tragus, rook, and nose piercings done here). It's very clean, and they explain the sterilization process and whatnot before any piercing. I've never had any issue with my piercings and I'd go back in a heartbeat. I'm sure it's a bit more expensive than other locations, but you get what you pay for......also, 9 times out of 10, the staff there has really been great. On the rare occasion, you get someone at the front desk/greeting area who isn't so nice or pleasant with folks... but it's a rarity.All that said, I've heard mixed reviews about the tattooing side of things (not cleanliness, but people being happy with the work they had done). I've never gotten a tattoo here, so I can't speak for any of the work...but I'd definitely recommend looking over portfolios and making sure you're on the same page as your artist. The piercing might hurt but the experience at Stiehl's is absolutely painless!I got a triple piercing on my front helix done here. It's a more uncommon piercing but when I called to ask about it they knew exactly what they were talking about so I felt very confident choosing them. When I walked in everyone was very nice, the place is very clean, and everyone was very knowledgeable. A guy explained the after care procedure very thoroughly and answered every question I had. Sarah did my piercing and she was AWESOME. She was very relaxed and assured me everything would go fine, she chatted with me to help me calm down, and explained the procedure carefully and patiently. She marked the holes on my ear a few times to make sure they'd be absolutely perfect which was reassuring too. Although the piercing hurt (I'm a baby with needles/pain) she kept saying, "You're doing great!" and even got me a piece of candy and a cup of water halfway through when I started feeling woozy. When she finished she said I could chill as long as I needed to, I never felt like she was rushing me out to get to the next customer. The piercing itself looks GORGEOUS. It's exactly how I pictured it would look. It's difficult getting the 3 piercings to line up right but Sarah got it perfect. I got my tongue pierced and two tattoos at Stiehl's and I probably wouldn't recommend anywhere else on the planet to get either. I no longer live in Ithaca, and still wait until I visit to even consider a tattoo or piercing not just because of the wonderful craftsmanship, but because of the relaxing atmosphere and AWESOME staff there, too.I am probably the biggest baby when it comes to needles, but Ron and Jim made me feel completely at ease when I got my tongue and tattoos done, which made the process a whole lot easier for everybody (and I would settle for anybody who worked there, too.) The shop is clean and laid out very well, and the staff is welcoming and down-to-earth, not just there to make a buck. They are truly great at what they do.Although I (regrettably) didn't get my tragus done at Stiehl's, Dawn still helped me change my piercing out free-of-charge, something I wouldn't have been able to do myself. They are equally welcoming to newcomers and tattoo/piercing enthusiasts alike, so if you've never been do not hesitate to stop in. Yay!Got a tattoo here a few years ago with a friend. We both wanted small tattoos (size of a nickel or dime) but the tattoo artist we talked to said that there was a minimum size because of something about "warping" and designs not "working" or looking as good if it was too small. I didn't quite understand that, as he was tattooed up pretty generously and he had plenty of "smaller" things that didn't look bad, but I wasn't going to argue with the "expert."All in all, it was a pleasant experience. The guy told us that if we were dissatisfied with the tattoo after the "scabs" had healed, that we were allowed to come back 3 times for modifications (including if you wanted to add some minor things to your design).Prices were reasonable, though I don't really have an idea of other prices to compare to. We paid in the range of $80 for our small tattoos (and I believe that was the base price). If you pay with a credit card, they attach a small fee, I guess to cover the credit card fees they have to deal with themselves. Read Less

I love this place! I got my navel pierced here and a year later i got my tongue done. They are so clean and explained everything to me. The people are so nice and are full of information about piercing and tattoos. I never got an infection but when I did, I stopped by the shop to have it looked at and it turns out it was not infected, but healing totally normal. After almost going to the Piercing Pagoda to get some more piercings (I already had the regular lobes done) at Pyramid Mall, I am incredibly glad that I trusted word of mouth and my own intuition. Believe me, this is how a piercing place should be: clean and sterile yet homey and open. There were couches and plants for you to get comfortable, but the actual piercing takes place in what almost looks like the doctor's room.  It was Ron who pierced my second left lobe and two on the right helix, telling me what he was doing and what to do once he pierced me ("Breathe!"). He was fatherly without being overbearing. Dawn was motherly without being overbearing as well when I wasn't sure whether to go for an industrial or two helix piercings on my right ear. She was the one who recommended the latter, and I took her advice. I do not regret it one bit. They give discounts if you get three ear piercings. It would normally be $75, but they gave a steep discount of $60 to me.
