To start, I want to say that it would have been a pleasure to have gotten tattooed here! I am from LA and can only see myself getting a tattoo from Anderson! Unfortunately this was not the case...I emailed saved tattoo and got an email back from Virginia since it was sent to her. She was very sweet and forwarded the email to Anderson. I honestly think that if that didn't happen, I would have never had gotten a call from them since it wasn't the first time I had emailed Anderson to get tattooed (I emailed him 2 times before). I guess the 3rd time was the charm. I then got a response 2 weeks after. I got a call from his assistant during April that Anderson was free during June 1st-8th. This was the time period I was going to go to New York, perfect right! Well they booked my consultation on may 16th since it was over the phone and that was the time they told me to call them. Unfortunately I missed it since our time zones are different. It was at 5:30 pm ET but I'm in Los Angeles (pacific time). I know, my fault... as a result, I called the next day a little before they opened. At this point, I called the assistant and he seemed puzzled when I told him I had a consultation yesterday as if I never had one. He didn't know why I was calling. He didn't know what I wanted (even though they had my email from a month ago). He then proceeded to tell me that June was all booked and that they no longer had room...The assistant told me that they give priority to those who are still getting worked on, phone consultations are difficult to do so they give less priority to those, and that because "the weather was getting hotter, people are deciding to get tattoos..." If he was referring that summer was coming along and that people were scheduling consultations, I did mine during the spring. He then had the nerve to tell me to schedule a consultation the next time I was in town... I don't have crazy money to go and travel. I wish I did but I don't. He was honest telling me I don't understand how the tattooing business works and how scheduling works. If that was the case, WHY WAS THIS NOT EXPLAINED IN THE BEGINNING WHEN HE FIRST CALLED ME. It would have been nice to have been told to book the consultation a lot earlier to guarantee my spot. Or at least tell me what he told me just now. I understand that there are many other people trying to get tattooed at this location and people looking for their business isn't a hard thing to come by, but at least have the decency to tell the customer what they have to do to secure a spot. Not give excuses and tell them that if you're ever in town again, you can try booking a consultation again. But instead the assistant never told me any of this and everything was booked by the time I called. It sucks because it would have been a dream to get tattooed here but sadly if you're a new customer... expect to work hard to get tattooed. Take the initiative and get the consultation early. They won't call you for the consultation, you'll have to call for the consultation. Don't hope that the assistant will have you scheduled or call you if you have a consultation. You'll basically have to jump through hoops. That's odd to hear, especially since you're the customer but as the guy said "that's how the tattoo business works." Well if it does, there's a lot of business that was lost. And if you're outside of New York and can only do a phone consultation... good luck...I hate being a dick, especially to a place that has many talented artists but there has to be better customer service then this. I find no pleasure writing this, I'm more disappointed to be honest since I got my hopes up for nothing. Hopefully this can be improved because I think this shop is great from all the other reviews I have read. I wished my experience could be like there's but sadly it wasn't. I know that this review is probably insignificant, some at saved tattoo might care or might not. But for those that do, maybe it'd be great to have a procedure in place so that this doesn't happen. It'd be great to hear from someone other than the assistant to get back to me to see what could've been done differently or what misunderstanding occurred. I thought maybe I'd get an apology or some type of understanding from there assistant but instead I got excuses and a "that's how things are" response. I totally understand that I confused the time zones but damn... a month ago that week was all free and I could have been told to get the consultation earlier to increase my chance of having an official appointment or have time to do another consultation. I know I'm a new customer who lives far but it's not like I was going to get a free tattoo. I was willing to spend whatever price they gave me for a half sleeve. Maybe I'll book an appointment here in the future but for now I'll look elsewhere. Read Less

Just got tattooed by Ian, and it was a wonderful experience. Ian is a talented artist, and such a warm, interesting and interested person. Sitting in his chair for 3+ hours was a total joy! He communicated well with me about the image I wanted, and produced a beautiful, detail-oriented work that exceeded my expectations. Everyone at Saved was absolutely lovely - it's clear that they all put a lot of effort into creating a welcoming atmosphere, chatting with clients and enjoying one another's company. Very cool tattoo shop and very straightforward process. It was quick and painless arranging my appointment with Tamara Santibanez online and the wait wasn't unreasonable by any stretch of the imagination - I'd call it very reasonable. I gave her the basic idea, trusted her to make a design, and she killed it. She saw the ink I have in the area where I wanted the new piece and she blended in to the theme seamlessly, and left space to add to the area. I'm super stoked to have a small piece from an artist of her caliber. Bottom line: Saved is a totally unpretentious tattoo shop with some cool and super talented artists. They charge what's fair and reasonable, the shop is spotless clean, and they do great work - totally top notch, much appreciated folks. Read Less

I've been tattooed at many places before, including a few times at Saved Tattoo -- by Tamara, by guest artists, and by Zac (no longer with Saved). The craftsmanship on the tattoos here are impeccable and the artists really work with you to create the perfect tattoo for both your vision and your body. I've never been disappointed by a tattoo I've gotten here.I already have something else booked and a reason to come back, but even after that, I of course plan on looking to the artists of Saved for some of the tattoos I plan to get in the future.If you go here, you know you are going to a professional shop, and one of the best in the city. i pretty much created this yelp account to give bad reviews to shitty mechanics i've had to deal with but now it's time to leave a good review.tamara santibanez is the best!!!  look her up!!!  i don't think i can overstate that she does really amazing workshe is incredibly talented, super professional, and an amazing person.  i got a small piece from her that she designed from an idea i had.. it looked better than i could have imagined.  we made a couple minor changes that she was very accommodating to and the tattoo took less than an hour.  unfortunately, a lot of the time when i'm getting a tattoo, i don't really talk to the artist, because 1. it hurts too much and 2. we don't have anything in common/i'm afraid i would hate them if i knew them.  but tamara is both light handed and really cool, and i had the best time with her.  i feel so lucky to have had this experience!  the tattoo i got was pretty simple but very important to me.  i would love to go back to her and get something more complex some day. I won't say much except that I am extremely disappointed. I asked for something simple and tiny. I ended up with something looking weird and horrible lines like if the artist was shaking... After getting a tattoo from Stephanie Tamez, I'm not surprised she is considered one of the top tattoo artists in NYC. This was my first tattoo. Despite my anxiousness and indecisiveness, she was overly-patient to the point that I felt sorry. She was also very responsive to my questions and counseling appointments prior to the tattoo session. Both before and during the tattooing, she did everything to make me feel comfortable and calm. She is a very down to earth person that understands her clients' concerns. She treated my tattoo as if it was going to be her own.Most impotantly, her work was awesome! I personally cannot ask for more. I'm more than satisfied with the result of my tattoo! Her work can be a little pricey, but tattoos are permanent so it was worth every penny. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!! Read Less

I came here in June 2015 for my very first tattoo ever because a French traveling tattoo artist I had been following for years happened to be visiting there for a week so I made an appointment with him. I live in Philly but I made the trip just to go there.Since I was tatted by someone who is not regularly there, it's hard to review the actual tattooers but I can at least rate my experience.The shop itself was very clean. As a nurse I was making sure the supplies were sterile and that they used the best aseptic technique possible with both myself and the other customers. No problem there.In my small experience and by talking to other tattoo artists, tattooers really are some of the nicest people around. Guy, the one who did my tattoo, was patient and friendly throughout the process, making sure we worked together to come up with something I really liked. He talked to me and made sure I was ok. He even asked the other artists their opinions. There were two women working there, one blonde and one dark haired, and they too were giving support and encouragement. At one point the blonde even came over and held my hand (I went alone) because it was my first AND it was in a painful area. So sweet of her!It was overall an incredibly good tattooing experience with a super friendly staff. I came a little before they opened and I still had a bit of a wait time after 12, but I understand they have to set up and whatnot. Thanks Saved for an awesome experience for a first-timer! I'm giving this place two stars because I don't think it's run by bad people.  Everyone makes mistakes.  But it's important how mistakes are handled, and this place didn't do a good job.I wanted to get "Brooklyn" in handwritten script.  The artist printed it in a couple different fonts, but I wanted it to look even more handwritten, so he redid it by hand.  We went through a couple of iterations because it didn't look right.  The first half of the word looked good but the section half was weird.  After spending a lot of time reviewing it with the artist and my friend, we decided to go for it.  The artist put it on tracing paper.  I have dyslexia, but I was 99% percent sure it was spelled correctly.  (All words look weird when you stare at them for a long time.)  Just in case, I text a photo of the tracing paper to my fiance and said "Spellcheck please!"  Thank God he got that text and called me immediately because it was spelled wrong!  The Y and L were swapped.  (See the photo I uploaded.)  I freaked out, and the manager just told me I had to get off my phone.  The artist said there was no way it would have made it on my body because they would have caught it.  But it was already on tracing paper!  And after all that, I was charged $80 more than what the artist quoted because of the revisions.  (Totally unacknowledged that the reason there were so many iterations was because the word looked funky because it was spelled wrong.)The tattoo came out great, but it was terrifyingly close to being a disaster.  It would have been great if they had at least acknowledged that OR apologized. I recently got a sleeve done by guest artist, Guy Le Tatooer, at Saved and would highly recommend this place to anyone. Even though I wasn't worked on by one of the resident artists, everyone who was there was friendly, welcoming, and just plain down-to-earth. None of that snooty, eye-brow raised, give-you-attitude "You don't belong here" looks like you receive at some other places. Here, everyone worked together, laughed together, gave advice and feedback, and encouraged artists through their pieces. If I lived closer, I'd just plain hang out here for the good company! I got a Celtic/Irish Girl-head tattoo by Virginia & it is AWESOME! Virginia did the coolest sketch ever, the shading, line-work, colors and details are the best that you can get.
