I really had high hopes for this place after all the great reviews. Now this bad review is based on my experience with one artist. The other artist at this shop are extremely professional and talented. I came in based on a recommendation from a co-worker who got a really nice piece on his leg. I came in because I wanted a polynesian half sleeve done. I was told Matt Bivetto was the artist I needed to see. I saw his work on Instagram and saw a polynesian piece he was working on. I spoke with him and he was certain he was going to be able to give me a great tattoo within my $1000 budget. I left a deposit and he traces my arm on a large sheet. I came in for my appointment on the date that I was given, Matt felt it was better to free style the whole thing. Now mind you my budget was $1000. Matt took three hours and charged me $600 to draw and outline the outside of my arm. I come back after it was healed and had a discussion with Matt based on the $600 I was charged I was hit with the it's $200 a hour, so I was charged $600 for Matt to draw and outline? So again we have to go over what was originally spoken. My budget is $1000 I am now in $1100 for a incomplete tattoo in which only the outside of the tattoo is shaded in. I can't argue with him cause all I'm getting is the run around. I spoke with someone at the shop and nothing can be done my discussion has to be with the Artist. This is my third tattoo from here. I keep going back for a reason. It's clean. And the staff is friendly. They help you to feel comfortable. This last time yovanni was patient and drew the tattoo to be sure I was happy with it. John the owner had done two of mine. He is really great too! Read Less

Franco does great work. I had an idea in mind (depiction of a Tusker elephant), worked with him to blend his style with my preconceived notions, and walked out with a finished product that was wonderful and better than I could have hoped for. I went here for two small tattoos - a wrench on my finger and script on my inner bicep, both black. I called in the morning to ask about walk-ins and they said they'd have time after 4:00. We arrived around 5:00 and I lucked out, because the shop owner, John, was available.I can't speak to John's artistry because what I wanted was so simple, but both tattoos were complete within a half hour and the linework is solid. He and the other artists were friendly which was refreshing because most tattoo artists I've encountered have been obnoxious assholes. They played good music and the artwork on the walls was interesting. My personal standard for tattoo shops is the bathroom - if you can't be bothered to keep your bathroom clean why should I trust you to tattoo me? I'm happy to say Green Point Tattoo passed in this regard.The only reason I don't give 5 stars is because it wasn't quite as organized as I'd like and I didn't see any innovative work. I appreciate traditional/new school/old school but I dig it when artists aren't afraid to explore, especially with all the incredible things happening out there (hyper realism, biomechanical, 3D, watercolor, etc). It'd be cool to see more variety from artists who are obviously talented. Then again, who am I to tell an artist what to do? If you want something in their style (or just something transcribed, like what I got), they are a fantastic choice.Price was beyond reasonable - $120 before tip for both pieces.FYI: Cash only! My second time at the shop today, I went in the past to get tattood by Chuck D. His work is great and personality rules. He was really nice and fun. We had great convo and his work was amazing. The shop has a excellent lineup of talent including the owner, Hillary and Chuck D. All produce top notch work. However there are a couple of newer faces to the shop who all are talents, like Jason Ocha, Dan Nelson, and Franco Moldanado (who tattooed my lady and me today.)Franco is a really awesome guy and his work is amazing. He did a great piece on my girlfriends forearm and charged a really good price for the size and work of the tattoo. I had a great time talking with him about my work and tattoos in general. I decided since he was fast a finished her tattoo soon to get one of his flash originals on me since I loved the image. He fit me in perfectly, and I really appreciated it. All around great experience and I will surely return for more pieces from Franco and Chuck, as well as new appointments with Dan and Jason. One of the best shops I have been to, for sure. Read Less

Just got another great tattoo from Franco Maldonado, this time here at Greenpoint Tattoo Company. I knew I could expect a great design and tattoo from Franco, but this was my first visit to this shop and I had a really great experience. This was a pretty large tattoo, so we split it up to two sessions. On both visits, the other artists were relaxed, friendly and it seems they all respect each other's work. Real nice place and they get bonus points because no one laughed at me when I fell and busted my ass coming upstairs from the bathroom. Apparently, being tattooed for three hours has negative effect on my already clumsy person.Looking forward to future visits to this place. Read Less

Great artist owned shop! Everyone here is laid back and super cool. Jason Ochoa gave my a pair of swallows on my chest and they came out awesome. Cash only place (like it should be!) and very reasonable. they do mostly American classic! Definitely worth getting inked here! Read Less

Out of the blue I decided to get my first new tattoo in 15 years. A friend had recently been to Greenpoint Tattoo and highly recommended it as do I. I was able to get an appointment same day. Dan was great to work with. He gave me direction to narrow down the look and font for my script tattoo, and he was patient even while I wavered on the exact placement. Price was reasonable as well. I'd highly recommend the shop to both tattoo veterans and virgins. (Also, don't let the trip from Manhattan stop you... yes, it's two transfers, but total travel time is pretty short). Read Less

Been tattooed here a few times and the work has been top notch. I have gotten multiple pieces by John Reardon and Hilary Fisher White and they have all been great tattoos. Greenpoint Tattoo is totally solid. I had two tattoos done by Chuck D. For the first one, he told me it would take a couple hours and quoted me a certain price. However, the tattoo ended up taking longer than we expected. Since they have a $200 per hour rate, this tattoo would have cost way more than I anticipated. But Chuck being the rad dude he is, told me that he would only charge me what he quoted me. The next day he did another little tattoo on me. I'm happy with both of them.All the guys (and HIlary) do awesome stuff and have different styles from each other. Greenpoint is a great shop and everybody has a relaxed and respectful attitude. Everyone is friendly and willing to talk. In my humble opinion, going here is a much more chill and fun experience than going to some other shops in Brooklyn that do similar work.I definitely recommend this place. Read Less

This is probably the best shop I have been to and I will definitely return.  I had a piece done this weekend by John Reardon, and it turned out better than I could have anticipated.  From the minute I made the appointment/ paid the deposit a few weeks in advance, he was super helpful and able to help integrate my ideas and make changes.  The space is comfortable, with good music on vinyl and great light.  They aren't pushy, but will definitely give insight regarding good tattoo aesthetic.  Overall, I definitely recommend this shop. This place is amazing!!! I called a couple times prior to making an appointment for my first tattoo. Keith & Hillary were both kind to answer all my questions.I was super nervous because I didn't know what to expect, but as soon as I opened the door my fear disappeared. It's a very nice and clean shop with lots of light and the atmosphere is great.Chuck D. was incredible, he listened, asked questions and gave me some advice.I got a Bible verse reference inside my left wrist. My boyfriend had some work done by Hilary today. She was extremely nice and did a fantastic job. He had gone into a couple other local shops and said the atmosphere and mood of Greenpoint Tattoo was much more welcoming than the others.
