After getting really disappointing treatment from a nearby tattoo parlor (Bedford Tattoo) I tried another nearby store (Tattoo Culture) where Thom was doing work around the shop. He told me that they were closed, but that he also worked at a nearby shop (Black Square Tattoo) and he would be glad to do my tattoo if I met him there in an hour. He did a great job on my tattoo! After tons of research, I decided on Black Square for a tiny piece of ink I'd been wanting for a long time. Black Square itself both is, and isn't, your classic tattoo parlour. It's got the standard stencils on the wall and has a little of that "we were drunk, it was 3AM and my friends dared me to do it" vibe when you first walk in, but...trust the reviews, I suppose? At the same time, the artists are super welcoming, there's T-Swift blaring on the speakers and none of that holier-than-thou boys' club attitude that you can get with some shops *cough* White Rabbit *cough.* Anyway, Ryan was my artist and he was AMAZING. He was such a sweetheart and never made me feel like an outsider because I wasn't covered in tats head to toe. His attention to detail was second to none, and I couldn't be happier with the result. I support small businesses and Black Square Tattoo is my local shop. I pass it almost daily and was waiting for the right opportunity to visit for some ink. Friday the 13th arrived and my step-daughter and me went for matching flash pieces - the family that tattoos together, stays together. The front desk person was chill. We put our names on the list for Nick Paine and he said he'd call when it was almost our turn. He did call and we did return. Super fortunate to have met Nick, he banged out two high quality American Traditional pieces and I have an appointment to come back for another. Really cool local business. If you're looking to spend thousands on realistic, 10+ hour tattoos, then find somewhere else. If you want a high quality piece of American Traditional, then this place is perfect. Read Less

Popped in and grabbed some business cards to check the guys out. They all seemed really legit, constantly uploading work to IG and the work showed a nice range from trad to single needle work. Went back to talk to Noel and got inked up right there and then! Couldn't be happier. All the guys were really sound and Noel was confident, quick, and accurate. This is a great shop, very clean, with great work. The artists who work here are always friendly and very helpful. I have gotten three different tattoos here from Lou (one flash and two custom designs) and I couldn't be happier about them. The colors came out amazingly and the line quality is nice and clean. I don't know how he does it but the tattoos I have gotten here have healed more quickly than any of the other tattoos that I have. I highly recommend checking these guys out.Read Less
