Went in to add a background to an existing tattoo. I gave my ideas and asked for their opinions. My tattoo is a Star of David with a Cross through it. I wanted a background to soften it up and Newman said clouds with light (in black/grey) would work best. I agreed. While this tattoo was very painful, it was well worth it (check their facebook page and there's a pic of the finished product). It took about an hour longer than anticipated (2 1/2 hours overall), I'm very pleased with the way it looks. Once it heals, the blacks/greys will look better (they're red with blood now...). I got my very first tattoo this morning! I am 18, so getting tattoos is new to me. I got my daughters name, and I had a font and everything picked out, so the artist (john) had me text him the picture I had on my phone. He told me flat out that it'd have to be a bit bigger than I originally planned because the font has lots of loops and stuff. So I filled out the paperwork, (I was extremely nervous. My friend was with me though so I was okay) and I went to get the stencil. I would have given this 5 stars, but the reason I didn't is not because the tattoo didn't look good. It looks great! But I asked what kind of ink they use, he responded with "black" and I clarified by asking what brand they use, like... harsh ingredients and stuff. It took him a little while to remember. But then again, they probably aren't asked this often. I told him I was scared of an allergic reaction, even though I'm not allergic to metals or anything. He said he's done thousands of tattoos in his career and he's only ever had one person to get an allergic reaction, and he went to the doctor and got cortisone. And to go to the doctor if it starts oozing or getting overly inflamed. Other than that it was great. I wish there was a way to give 4 and a half stars. I would've done that. The place is great and the next tattoo I want is gonna be really colorful and intense and I really like Matt Truiano's style so I will probably end up making an appointment with him. I had been to winky dink ink in the past and was extremely impressed with my tattoo. Unfortunately the artist had switched shops but I decided to stick with winky dink ink for a simple quote on my outer wrist. I decided to go with John Bergin who ended up tattooing the quote on my wrist. However, when I took the bandage off the quote looked nothing like the design I had given him and the writing was barely legible to anyone who had read it. The design I gave him had thin and thick lines and he tattooed a thick line all the way thru and the lines bled together. I immediately called the shop back and asked John if I could come back to see if there was anything he could do to fix the tattoo and make it more legible. His response was "There's nothing I can do it was the design you picked out." I had to go to another shop to get this tattoo fixed because he refused to even have me come back to see if there was anything he could do. He neglected to tell me the design I picked out wouldn't look how I wanted it to because of the size/ area I chose. I would not recommend John Bergin due to his lack of professionalism and the way he treats his clients. I hope no one has to go thru getting a botched tattoo on a visible spot on your body and being told there's "nothing I can do" without even looking at the tattoo.REPLY: This was from Amanda Rolfs my girlfriend. I got my first tattoo here today and words can't explain how happy I am with Matt T's work! It was a very simple word but a word that means everything to me and the tattoo looks perfect! Exactly how I wanted it.The shop was very clean, the guys were nice, and it helped that it wasn't a full house today. I've never been there before but I was already as nervous as can be, I couldn't imagine what it would be like in a room full of people. Anyway, I must mention that I was 200% nervous about this tattoo.. And for absolutely NO REASON. It didn't even hurt. Getting a new tattoo and live in rockland county ny or even close by nj? Go to Winky Dink.  Super professional, clean work, clean tools and comfy ass chairs in the waiting room.  Usually have some sort of cool movie playing on the tvs and usually playing some pretty awesome music as well.  I personally go to Matt T.  His work can be found on his website and in some magazines.  My friend got his work done by him and i decided to do the same.  I even referred one of my buddies to start his sleeve with Matt.  I can only say good things about this place.Its close to the the highways and easy to get to from everywhere.  Check this place out if you're in the market to get some new ink.
