Went to Tom Spaulding and the guy widened by jewelry for free, and helped me through the infection that I got. The guy that pierced me didn't give me any aftercare tips. I wish I went to Tom Spaulding to begin with. Place was clean and he was very easy to talk to. Made me very comfortable. I'll be coming here for my next piercing/tattoo. Highly recommend this place! Came in last minute because my tragus piercing (which I had gotten done at another shop) was becoming embedded in my ear. The guy working there (maybe Gene?) helped me immediately, was super friendly and made an effort to make me feel comfortable and talk me through his process as he replaced my jewelry with a longer piece with ball endings. Im not sure of the name of the guy that did my nose piercing but he was awesome. His method helping me relax was great! He had a calm voice and taught me meditative breathing while i was punctured. I was pleased with the piercing as far as pain level and cleanliness but the placement looked a little off the next day. I wanted it more on the crease and it is below. But that makes room for a second one i guess. I will be back in 2 weeks for a check up. Read Less

I got my first tattoo at Tom Spaulding when I turned 18. 11 years later and they are still the only tattoo shop I go to. The staff is very friendly and the work speaks for itself. I have had so many compliments of all my tattoos done by GeneO, specially the foot prints of my son. All the tattoo artists there are giftedly talented and know what they're doing. This place is amazing, totally better than some of the more "well known" tattoo parlors. Eugene was super friendly and open and let me know what he was doing every step of the way. I got my first tattoo here and I was ridiculously anxious and nervous but it turned out to be a super exciting experience. He did a great job. I've gotten compliments on it & I always tell people where it's from. The waiting room is rather large and comfortable, with a TV, so even if you have to wait a bit you aren't miserable. :) Great artists as well as a comfortable, well-lit atmosphere where each artist has their own separate, private room for doing their work. I would recommend this place to anyone! :) Especially first timers. Edit: The prices are also sooo much better. My tattoo was fairly simple and took an hour which was paid for with my $50 deposit. That's LESS than 1/3 the cost of what you'd pay at a certain popular tattoo studio on Lark... And he did exactly the design I asked and made sure it was positioned perfectly. Read Less

I went to get a smiley piercing back in 2013 & had an excellent experience. It was very fun & relaxing. My friend & I went in during 2015 & we were pierced by Tom Spaulding himself! Went here today to get a tattoo. Zack was my tattoo artist. We spoke on the phone the day before I arrived and he gave me his cell phone # so that I could send him my ideas. I of course was nervous as I am not a lover of pain. Arriving at Tattoo World was exciting, walked in the door and it was really clean, nice waiting room. Met Zack and he gave me a nice tattoo that I am really happy to have. We had a good time laughing at my nervous hysteria! Hahaha. But a really great experience! Read Less

Went here with a girlfriend to get tattoos. My second, her first. We had Eugene. Everything about the experience was great. They were polite when we came in, helped us pick out the correct designs, and were just all around pleasant the entire time. Eugene kept us entertained with questions and asking us about our hobbies and tastes in music and what not, he certainly made my friend feel very comfortable seeing as it was her first tat and she was so nervous. He even stayed later than closing to make sure we would both satisfied with them before we left. He even added some of his own ideas (after approval of course) which I thought was great. The price was about what I figured it would be. As far as it being dirty, I completely disagree. I would come back for sure. Read Less

I'm 68 & I've been getting tattoos since November of 2014 by Gene. He's done all 11 of them & I love them all. He is so polite & made me feel very comfortable since the first day. My first tattoo was a butterfly that was done some other place & I wasn't happy with it but Gene fixed it for me, I couldn't be happier, it looks totally different. He's won the heart of this grandma. Tom has done all three of my tattoos and I couldn't be happier with them!  The staff at the shop are super friendly, and will help you pick out a design or create custom artwork.  The shop is bright and clean - not sure what shop the one negative reviewer walked into, but I can't imagine it was Tom's. Eugene was the bomb! It's been about 10 years since my last tattoo and so I was a little nervous. I wanted a Celtic knot and he made it look way cooler than I was anticipating. Everyone here has been nothing but helpful. They are very friendly and eager to work with you. A family member of mine got an old tattoo covered up and Tom did it and it turned out beautifully. They let you pick out a movie and watch it while the work is being done. I know some of the other reviews mentioned the place being dirty, I didn't find that to be true at all. A bit pricey, but it's worth it. I got my navel done here over a year ago. The girl that pierced me was very nice and very efficient; she kept me talking while she did the actual piercing, so before I knew it, it was done. She also took me step by step through the process of how to clean it, how long it generally takes to heal, what to watch out for, etc. They had a great selection of starter jewelry.
