Came here to buy a replacement threaded end for my navel curve. They had a wide variety of options from all brands like NeoMetal and Industrial Strength. I didn't see anything I really liked, but they made the process of ordering exactly what I wanted very easy! I initially chose Talisman as it was a shop that I passed on several trips to Santa Fe from Los Alamos. My tattoo artist, one Mrs. Kristina Huckabee, was stupendously helpful for a first time customer, such as I was. She was both quick and fastidious in her approach and execution. For my first tattoo, small and simplistic as it is, I do not think I could have gone to a better artist. Wow. So why didn't I get the same stellar service on my 2nd visit?! I've had my eyebrow pierced for 29 years with no infection. I was bored with my jewelry so my partner offered to buy me some as a gift. I put together a cute $75 piece at Talisman. Phil came out and was very nice and welcoming. Said he was going to use a shorter bar for a better fit. Okay, I say- trusting him as he seems knowledgeable etc. He kindly changes my jewelry and happily I leave the store with Phil reassuring me that if i need anything at all to come back and see him. He stresses that THEY CARE ABOUT AFTERCARE. I note that the jewelry seems a little tight, like the stones are pressing into my skin,just a little swelling he says. Swelling?But I figured he knew better than I. I leave for California the next day and then onto Europe for a month. I keep the piercing as clean as possible but only becomes more tender and I can't clean underneath the jewelry because there is no wiggle room. I get mixed advice about taking it out VS getting it to heal with the jewelry in. Knowing I'm going to be back in Santa Fe soon I decide I will tough it out a little longer. So I get back to town and head over to the Talisman - not to complain, not to return the jewelry - but simply to ask someone who I thought was a pro, what to do. I was not at all angry and was willing to purchase anything he suggested or do whatever. No big deal - stuff happens.So, I go in and it is like a different place. I don't know if they had just gotten some really bad news or what but they could not have been ruder or more uncaring. I was confused by this - I came in smiling and just wanting some help because that's what I expected after a pleasant initial visit. Instead Phil was VERY defensive and kept saying well I don't know what to tell you blah blah blah. I didn't understand the hostility. I wasn't blaming them for anything at this point, I just wanted some help. Obviously, I thought highly enough of him to wait to see him (my mistake). I was very nice and was met with bad attitude. I asked Phil to remove the jewelry (at his suggestion) and he did so but again with attitude - as if I were asking for the moon. He made sure to then inform me that there was no sign of infection - this just after he blamed my hairdresser for the infection and told me to remove it due to said infection. Again, I'm not here to sue you dude, just needed a little aftercare. I looked at the jewelry when we got outside - the underside of the lower stone was crusted with gunk. No sign of infection. Right. I'm a little lost. I waited specifically to follow up with them because I wanted to like The Talisman. Should have just gone to a Dr. or another shop, would have saved me weeks of worry.After it healed I had it successfully re-pierced elsewhere. More money and now even more boring jewelry than before. Sigh. So much for that. I've been told by two   artists who have inspected the jewelry from  Talisman that the bar is too short making the jewelry too tight. My gift from my Partner currently sits useless in a drawer. Great. Thanks Talisman. Today, I went to see a man about a nose piercing, and that man was Phil Temer. Down to earth and understanding, he walked me through every step of the process with intention. I imagine that some people who know their shit thoroughly, like Phil, may get bored with explaining the process to newbies, but I felt welcomed, taken care of, and treated like a human being instead of a number. He gets bonus points in my book for questioning my willingness to go with what I *thought* I should get (a stud) instead of what I *really* wanted (a hoop).Even more bonus points for sending me home with an after-care soap made of organic castille soap & essential oils. Talisman is THE place to go if you're looking to get pierced. I first visited Phil in October to get my septum pierced and I have since gone back to pierce my nipples and (quite literally just) my nostrils pierced. Everyone is friendly and attentive, but for piercing work Phil is the best person in town to go to. Every procedure is explained THOROUGHLY, every precaution is taken for sanitation, and the piercing itself is quick and extremely accurate with minimal pain. Another bonus about going to Talisman is their dedication to aftercare. Unlike SSS for piercings--which Phil explained leeched the natural oils out of your skin thus prolonging healing time--Talisman uses all organic soaps from Pandora's Products. I can't speak to the Sandalwood variety, but the lavender soap I have religiously used has resulted in faster than expected healing times; my septum healed in less than two months just using the soap 1 min in the morning and 1 min right before bed. As for the price, it can't be beat. It's not cheap, but you definitely get your full money's worth because of Phil's professionalism and high quality jewelry. If you take anything away from this review, just skip the other shops and go straight to Phil. You won't be disappointed. Read Less

I wanted a new tattoo and had received a sub par one from a different shop, so I went in to Talisman to look at their set up. Nikki's portfolio showed strong lines so I decided to go for it. BEST TATTOOS I've gotten. Strong lines, clean colors and great interpretation of the art I brought. For Christmas I'm getting my husband a cover up!So. My tattoos have healed and they're still amazing!  Even though I had to wear shoes and had some scabs, I followed the instructions and used the products they sold and no scarring and no touch ups needed!  Great lines and colors. Great experience at Talisman! I got tattooed by Sam Castro, being my FIRST TATTOO I was nervous. But Sam was super friendly and set up an appointment for me a week in advance. The day of my appointment I was the first appointment in the shop so she took the time to explain the whole process and got the placement of the tattoo just right. Very sterile and sanitary as well (she uses a one use only needle). My tattoo took 5mins and she did it perfectly! I love my tattoo and the price was reasonable! Also, they sell 100% organic tattoo salve, which put my mind at ease that I was putting good stuff onto my skin. First off, I can't speak to their tattoo work.  I just got my ears pierced here, like first holes, cause I'm a fifth grader.  I've spent my fair share of time in tattoo shops/getting tattoos, and this seemed pretty nice.  Everyone was friendly, everything seemed clean and professional.  They have a huge, really nice (a little pricey) jewelry selection.  Some of the larger gauge size pieces were really beautiful.Anyways, Phil did my piercing and it was awesome.  I'm a little bit of a freak about piercing sanitation specifically and he walked me through the whole thing.  This wasn't a Claire's, scary plastic gun situation.  Everything is autoclaved, all needles are new, he went over what he was doing and using multiple times.  On top of that, he was really friendly and funny.  I would suggest going here even for basic stuff. I was in Santa Fe  to meet some friends over the weekend of 06/24/11.  Among other planned events, some of us were going to get tattoos. Since the tattoo shop my friends had booked  appointments with did not  have any openings, I did a quick search on my phone  which led me to Talisman Tattoo & Body Piercing and Tim. I admit I was very nervous, being from out of town & not knowing anything about the shop, but  Tim was very nice and helpful.  Only having a general idea of what I wanted,  Tim patiently helped me find the details of what I wanted and sketched out the design.
