My son's girlfriend and I wanted to get a tattoo during a weekend in Santa Fe. My best friend had recently passed away, and I wanted a tattoo to honor her. My son's girlfriend had a script she wanted tattooed, but didn't exactly know how she wanted it to look. We called Four Star and they happened to be quiet at that time, so we came in and discussed our needs. I wanted a raven's feather on my foot to remind me of my friend, and Jennifer created an amazing piece that I will always cherish. She also reworked a small tattoo on my hand that wasn't originally done well. Our mother recently passed and we wanted to commemorate with matching tats. Jennifer Billig at  talked to us about what we wanted and even through we wanted matching it was clear that we had different styles and wanted different locations so she did some sketches and voila we have the most beautiful tattoos that reflect our own personal style and honor our mother. I am so happy with my experience at Four Star! I had a large piece on my right arm that was poorly done and unfinished. I had felt so deflated about it for so long but when I finally went in to talk to someone about fixing it, I was so happy and relieved. J Green was able to get me in quickly and he completely transformed my tattoo (that really did need a lot of work.) He was professional, friendly, and experienced. He worked for over 3 hours and I was surprised at how reasonable the price was. I will be going back to him for one more session do to shading and finishing touches. Initially went here because when I asked around where people got their work done, 4 Star was the overwhelming response. I've gotten 2 tattoos done here since then. One by Scott and one by J. Green and both came out amazing. Great shop, great music playing, everything was clean and sterile, true professionals for their craft. She listened carefully to what I wanted and offered her opinions, but not in any kind of abrasive way. I felt super comfortable with her as my artist. Unhappy with the work for the money spent. Jennifer did the tattoo, the line work is crooked and uneven. She had a hard time with coming up with a concept for the tattoo. She walked away from tattooing me to help a walk in which took her 30 min. The tattoo is faded shortly after being done in November. Yes I could have called back to have it fixed but honestly after the job she did, I didn't trust her to ruin it more. This was probably the best tattoo experience I've ever had. My friend and I walked in an hour before close, hopeful that they could fit me in. I wanted two small tattoos done on my hands, but you never know if there's time/artists available. They were able to get me in, to my relieved joy, and they quoted an outstanding price! As I sat and waited for my artist to be ready, I chatted with the other artist and assistant about life, tattoos, etc. They were very friendly, very talented people. When it was my turn up, my artist, Scott, took lots of time to draw, and place, my desired tattoo exactly perfect. It took very little time to do, but he was 100% dedicated. He's an amazingly smart, talented, and experienced guy. I highly recommend trying to snag him, but I think you'll be happy with anyone there. From what I've seen in their books, each of the other artists at Four Star are extremely skilled. I wanted to get a tattoo to commemorate my trip to NM (it's a long and personal story) so I decided to check out the sites on Yelp. After some research I chose Four Star, and am very glad I did. I contacted Mark, the owner, and arranged an appointment and sent him a deposit and a JPG of my proposed art. When I got to the shop he drew up and improved the design and got my approval for everything before he went to work. The end result is better than I imagined and I couldn't be happier.The shop is clean, spacious and bright, and the staff was friendly. Mark was especially helpful and prompt. All in all, it was the best tattoo experience I've had. They were also quite busy--it looks like the word has gotten out about their work and the art that I saw on people in the shop was very impressive.If you want ink and you're in the area, this is the place to go. I just got my first tattoo done by Jen Billig, an artist new to Four Star but super experienced in tattooing. Jen made my incoherent ramblings about what I wanted into an INCREDIBLE design, worked professionally and knowledgeably, and talked me through what she was doing the whole time (I was nervous). It was clear to me how much she knew what she was doing, and I felt very comfortable in her hands. Got really, really put off by the overall rudeness of the man working there. Came in with two others asking about a Zia symbol for each and was told that it is way harder than people think to do. Apparently, Talisman didn't seem to think so and were very informative about prices and such while the man at Four Star basically told us to go somewhere else, because he wasn't going to do it. Not exactly sure why they have the repuation as a professional shop when they have rude, unhelpful and disrespectful people working there. Will not be recommending Four Star to anyone. Read Less

My friend and I both had tattoos done by J.Green.It was a solid experience.  The shop is clean, they charge enough to make you confident but not so much that it's absurd.  J was calm, made good suggestions, and our tattoos look fantastic.  (We had words put on the top of our feet, no small task).  Plus, we had these done two months ago and everything healed up great.I would recommend this place, and specifically J, to anyone in the Santa Fe area. I waited until in my Forties to get something and have been SCARRED!I had a very large piece I had designed and asked if they where able to do it with fine lines, The guy said yes, he is an artist as I am. It took many trips because while paying by the hour he got up to answer the phone and answer questions to people walking in. After the last session we should have done the clean up session, I asked about all the skin showing through, I was told in front of the owner Mr. Vigil that in a year the ink would spread to fill in. I new this wasn't true but left any way. Then I noticed that I was scarred from the out lining, the out line was raised all over and there where dark spots .People have commented on my scaring and have ask who did this so they can avoid this place.Antonio Darden Read Less

I cannot believe I would be told that it takes a year for the fill to spread; if that were true then my whole tat would be a blur by then, If you want it right go to ABQ, not Four Star and not Dawn she has become sloppy also.
