Dawn created a custom half sleeve for me. I love it! The shop is clean, friendly and welcoming. Dawn is really cool, and the other artists are nice too. It's relatively pricey but worth it for an amazing unique piece of art. I found myself very relaxed even during a 5 hour session, when I did chat with Dawn it was very meaningful. Made the jump from Toronto, to Santa Fe 14 years ago just to see Dawn. It was going to be a commitment to fly down every year for ink. Great decision! Dawn Purnell is world-class, for sure.  We're lucky to have her in Santa Fe, because she's worth traveling for--and, after having seen her work, I'd have gone whereever I needed to to have her do my shoulder piece.She's a real pleasure to work with.  I tend to stay quiet and not like to chat too much while I'm in the chair, and during one of our longer sessions, after wiping away the smeared ink to look at the progress, she just said softly, "I love tattooing."  She's worth the wait, which can be long, and worth the cost, which is high (but not for an artist of her caliber!).  If you're investing the time and money and space on your body for a piece of art, you won't do better than to get in with Dawn. Beware of having anyone do your tattoo but Dawn. My tattoo was unfinished, I had paid her shop in full - $780.00. When I called to have my final session I was told the artist had left the shop and that her shop was not responsible for my Tattoo.But she had no problem taking my Visa card! Although the tattoo was superb, the customer service was poor. I was willing to wait on the 6 month waiting list for Dawn. The morning of my appointment she was late and then made me wait while she conversed with co-workers for another 30 minutes. At 42 years of age this was my first tattoo.I have had an idea of what i wanted for quit some time. The problem was who to let do it.i have seen several tattoos from around my area(i live in south arkansas).Nothing from arkanasas ever came into play and a few from louisiana looked ok but not the talent or style i would intrust to leave a life long piece of art and something ten years down the road i would still like.I work a trail ride in new mexico once a year.My boss has a ranch in santa fe.So i started checking to see if there were any QUALITY tat shops in the area.It did not take long to find that dawn,s custom tattoo was the place to go .Made a phone call to set up a appt. to check out shop and look first hand at some past work .Dawn was booked up till november(this was mid june)so i talked to a guy named prakash.So i took a long good look at his portf. and was able to make a appt. for the following sat.I arrived just before ten that morning .Prakash was already there getting things in order.It was a long session (for the both of us )but it had to be done that day because my plane out of albq.,N.M to dallas was the next morning.Long story short things could not have worked out better.Prakash is a true professional artist in ever sense of the word.So whether you get dawn or prakash you can,t go wrong.My next tattoo will be at dawn,s custom tattoo with prakash at the gun if possible.
