My son has wanted a tattoo ever since a couple of years ago. I told him when he turned 18 he could do whatever he wanted. When it came time for high school graduation we came to a compromise. We were going to find someone I trusted to take care of him and when he was handed that diploma we agreed to let him get it early. A friend was recommended to see Danny and referred us there as well. Where to start? I have 7 tattoos on my body and 6 of them were done at 71 Tattoo. I REFUSE to even attempt to go anywhere else and this is the place I recommend all of my friends and hell, even strangers to go. This shop is the cleanest tattoo shop I've ever been to in my life. Everytime they walk out fo the room, they replace their gloves and they wrap everything they think they may touch in their rooms with plastic wrap. When they even wrap their iPods, that's when I knew these guys meant business. Preparing for the minor surgery to come haha. What drew me to the shop originally were the artists. Every single one of them are the most talented artists I have ever met. They are also very friendly. Every time I walked into the shop, they treat me like a close friend rather than client. I've been tattooed by just about everyone there now and every artist has been a delight to work with. You really cannot go wrong. They all have their own strengths and flares too which makes it awesome for clients to find the right fit for them. They are fun guys who know how to make you comfortable while the process is getting done. They don't make the tattoo session awkward like some places where they just shut up and do it. I like personality in my artists and these guys have a fun demeanor to them, but they maintain that level of professionalism. Which is another reason why you should go to them. They are honest. If something could cause your tattoo to lose its integrity, they will give you their opinion and a solution to making it work on you. I went in only wanting a quarter sleeve for my X-Men tattoo, but I would have lost a ton of the beautiful detail and my lines wouldn't have had that thick comic-book-like feel to it. I never regretted that decision and my color is still as bright as the day I got it. I constistently get compliments on their work and I tell folks they won't regret going anywhere else. What I REALLY loved is they all are artists outside of just tattooing. They can draw up and manipulate tattoos to make them to your specifications. I would go in with semi-put-together ideas and they would draw them up exactly how I picture them in my head. These guys are what you want in a tattoo artist. I stand by this shop 100% and I will not venture anywhere else. Thank you Danny, Devo, Marty and Rabbit for everything you guys have done for me. Best tattoo shop I have been to. I had a moderately sized color tattoo that I needed to be covered up. Many of the "popular " shops in Abq told me it couldn't be done, but Devo at 71 had it covered with confidence! I absolutely adore what he did for me, and it is by far my most complimented piece! I wouldn't go anywhere else! The artists are talented, skilled, knowledgeable professionals. Awhile back I got tired of being just another number, which is how I felt at a lot of other shops in town. I wanted an artist I could get an honest caring opinion from. I also wanted someone I felt comfortable around and a place I didn't feel like my body was on display for everyone to come and look at while getting tattooed. 71 Tattoo respects the privacy and modesty of the customer. They listen to your ideas but won't just throw any tattoo on you. They take into consideration the healing of the tattoo and the ink and what will look good for years to come. Read Less

I have a very beautiful tattoo on my shoulder. The lines are clean, the color is vibrant, and the artwork is unique. But the tattoo is not what I asked for. When I went into 71 tattoo to see the owner of the shop, I was very specific with what I wanted. I wanted a three color tattoo (Dark blue, turquoise, and pink), and when I left the shop, my tattoo was 6 different colors (Dark blue, red, yellow, orange, pink, and green). If my tattoo was going to be changed, I needed to be confronted about it before the ink was put into my skin. After all, I was the one who was going to be wearing the tattoo for the rest of my life; it should have been done the way I asked it to be done. I've spoken with a few other clients of his, and they have also told me that he had messed up the color in their tattoos. He's like a hair stylist who cuts your hair the way they think it will look good, not the way you want it cut. Besides that, the owner was very crabby the entire session. He would roll his eyes at my favorite bands or TV shows, and constantly chastise me about how I was too young to know anything about life. I figured that if I was going to be in a room with this man for 3 hours, we might as well have friendly conversation. But instead of even being quiet, he was rude. Before the session, he even straight up told me that he did NOT want to be tattooing me that day, and he wanted to go home. Not very customer service friendly. A third complaint was how rough the owner's hands were. He had the roughest hand I've ever felt with the tattoo gun. My whole body vibrated; my bones vibrated, my head vibrated, I got a major headache. I've never felt someone with such a hard hand; it was unnecessarily hard. I've had tattoo artists previously who got my color to stand out perfectly fine with a much softer hand than he had. This made the tattoo more painful that it should have been, and my body scarred excessively, more than any of my other tattoos, ruining some of the lines in my tattoo. Understandably, I have soft skin, but if other artists could prevent scarring on my other shoulder, I would expect the same on this shoulder. 71 tattoo is full of talented artists with good tattooing skills, but if you're very picky about what you want (especially when it comes to colors), this is NOT the place to go. If you want a friendly, and out-going artist, this is NOT the place to go. If you're new to tattoos, or can't handle a rough hand, this is NOT the place to go. I'm not very happy with this experience what so ever.Read Less

I can recommend these guys for both piercing and tattoos. I got some work done by Marty and a piercing by Hardt. Both were very clean and professional. The shop was big and nicely done. Everyone was very cool. I will make sure to go back to them when I want something else done. Read Less
