I have 15 tattoos from Shotsies. My first tattoo was in the 80's. Then I returned in 2009 for 3 more. Then I returned in 2009 for 3 more. Absolutely beautiful. I came back in 2017. I had an artist, who spoke about someone she had worked with for years. The person sued her without even discussing the issue. I told the artist that was terrible.
But the issue I have, is that a brought a copy of an 8th musical note. The note was the exact note, not just an outline. An outline should have been used because the note was black and, of course, blank ink was used.
I felt more pain than usual. After I removed the saran wrap, there was blood. Part of my skin was inked deeper than it should have been. I sent pictures and went back to show the tattoo. I was told that it would heal and be fine. After three weeks, I sent another picture and was not told to use bacitracin and it would be fine.
This tattoo, I feel cannot be fixed, my skin in missing. I'm not sure if anyone even showed the tattoo to the artist, but no phone call or an attempt to reach out to me. That is a shame, after we spoke about a client that sued her. I am so sorry to have to write this review. I loved this place.

He has to be one of the best Artist on the East coast. I would highly recommend him and anyone else at this location. All of the Artist display true talent and a genuine love for their art.

I've gotten all of my tattoos at Shotsie's. I recommend this place for anyone getting a tattoo. It's clean, everyone is a professional, all tools are sterile and fresh out of the bag, and the prices are reasonable. You will always get a high quality tattoo and the staff won't let you make mistakes (i.e. no drunk people on a whim tattoos, no mispelled/grammatically incorrect tattoos). I believe they do cover ups as well. This place is the real deal, not just a corner walk in shop with neon signs that say, "TATTOO". Also, they will do a free touch up afterwards if you are not 100% satisfied. Never had to take the offer because I'm always satisfied leaving Shotsie's.

I'm giving one star based on the fact that I never ACTUALLY got any service to review. Walked in yesterday on a Sunday just to hopefully get a consultation/make an appointment and get some ideas for my first tattoo. The receptionist's desk remained empty for the half hour that I stood there and waited, hoping someone would walk out. I understand if they were short staffed however, I find it unprofessional that no one came to check at any point if customers had arrived. I guess it was a sign that I was supposed to go elsewhere...

I went in for my first tattoo about 3 weeks ago, and I can honestly tell you that Ian's ability and superior-talent as an artist is more than the 5 stars you can put here. He did an amazing tattoo on my back that every one I show asks, "Who did this?!". I was so impressed that I immediately made another appointment (for 2 weeks later). Ian just today "fixed" something for me and I was blown away at what he did with something that looked horrible. I have my last appointment (for at least a while) with him next week. I'm excited to show my tattoos off again! I highly, highly recommend Ian. He came as a recommendation from my brother-in-law who also has amazing work done basically from the neck down. I'd post pictures but I'm in education and this artwork is for me!

I came here to get my first tattoo, I was very excited and nervous. I heard from a friend that they were very friendly and do amazing work here but as soon as I walked in the lady at the front desk didn't even look at me. After minutes of waiting I finally asked if I could get a finger tattoo she gave me a weird look and nastily said that they don't do them with no further explanation and went back to ignoring me. This place is probably great, I've seen their work and it's amazing but I was just taken aback by how I was treated when I walked in.

First and foremost Scotty is one of the nicest people I'll ever know. He did a beautiful memorial tattoo on my shoulder in memory of my father who has been gone from my life for 17 years. I asked him if he ever got burnt out from doing so many tattoos over the years due to such a great reputation for being one of the best artists out there? He simply and humbly replied "No" I truly believe he loves what he's doing and that passion shows in his work. I am so grateful to have met him and honored to have had him tattoo me. However for his birthday this past weekend, I took him here (where he got several other tattoos done before) and we met Scott "Flying Ace" who took my vision (which I drew on paper) of how I wanted to fix his tattoo and cover up her name and add mine and our son's name. Contemplated in giving this place either three or four stars... But four stars it is! And only because it is expensive. If I'm not mistaken, they charge $175 for every hour... Yikes! Also, this may be a silly reason, but the location of the place is awkward and inconvenient. On another note, Manny was my artist and he did a superb job with my tattoo. Lines were super clean and it healed up well. I showed him a more complex picture of a lion and he was able to simplify it to the exact geometrical look I was aiming for.

My friend and I recently had a couple small tattoos done by Aharja at Shotsie's. I must say I have been to several tattoo establishments in North Jersey and this by far is the most professional and clean one. I first stopped by the shop to make our appointments and show them what we had in mind. I didn't really have a specific artist in mind, so the receptionist gave me time to review the artist portfolio's. After being very impressed with her colorful and clean work, I decided to go with Aharja. The receptionist then introduced me to Aharja who took time out to talk to me and look over our designs. I set our appointments and left the nonrefundable deposit. A couple of days later, my friend and I went in for our appointment. Aharja was ready for us and was great in talking us through everything step by step. She was efficient yet thorough. Our tattoos looked great and we both were very happy with the final results. Not sure if I want any more tattoos, but if do decide to get more, this were I will go.

His "office" is really cool and it's nice to have an artist that not only takes pride in his work, but is an all-around cool guy. Great conversation during the appointment. His office is filled with cool trinkets and conversation pieces.As a whole, the shop is very clean and the rest of the staff were nice and very professional as well. Shotsie's is one of only two tattoo shops I will go to. With their work aside, Shotsie's has been around for over 15 years; that fact alone speaks for their credibility. When you first walk in, there are portfolios of all the artists on the coffee table in the middle. Here, you can see all the talent of each artist and can see what their specialty is. All of the artists are professional and skilled in their work. Azarja is my artist and she is the best!! She knows exactly what you're talking about and has a gentle touch for a pain free experience. When I got my first tattoo two years ago, she talked me through the process and explained everything pre-tattoo and post tattoo. The shop is very clean and sanitary. Fresh gloves, needles and ink reservoirs were disposed after each use (as it should be). Everything was done right and I will be back in the future! As an FYI-- they don't accept walk ins so you should go ahead of time and discuss your piece of work with the artist of choice and plan your visit. If you're looking to get your first tattoo or you're not sure if you can handle pain, come to Shotise's and ask for Azarja. It'll be worth it! :)

I literally walked in not knowing what I wanted, made an appointment for later in the day (lucky me there was a cancellation) and came back and Kerry drew a little sketch on paper so we were on the same page with design, then freehanded 2" sections from foot ,around ankle and snaking up leg until we agreed it was enough! It sure looks amazing!

Ive been getting tattooed here for 11 years, and although the name hasn't changed, its just not the same since Shotsie himself sold it. I recently went in to book a session with Chris DePinto, to finally finish a fairly large piece I had to put on hold for awhile. The Inkshrink has done all my work, and besides exceeding my wildest expectations every time, he's become as much a true friend as the oddly intuitive and talented artist I've come to trust so much. So this time when I went in, I was abruptly told he no longer worked there, and like i'd never been there before, i was refused any more information, And then told "some else there " could finish my tattoo....No offense, but no thank you. For anyone who knows his work, I don't need to explain the obvious reasons of quality that led me to Chris in the first place. All I had to do was Google his name, and I found him at a shop even closer to home than this one.....Artisanal Tattoo in Somerville, NJ

Just booked my second appointment and I can't wait! I had my first with Christopher DePinto last year. I almost felt sorry for him initially because from step one I was as nervous and hyper as a schoolgirl, but he was as down-to-earth and laid-back as can be and I completely forgot all my anxieties as soon as I sat down in his chair. He's a way cool, intuitive dude and a true artistic professional. I had a VERY vague idea of what I wanted and he helped me see what i NEEDED. Perfect. I couldn't ask for more from my tattoo artist. I've been to other "high-profile" shops in Jersey where the tattoo artists, and owners for that matter, will repeatedly interrupt their session to text, but that definitely didn't happen here. Love Shotsies. (and they know good pizza too)

Of an intricate detailed Jethro Tull album cover art from the '70's...Amazing,spectacular,incredible just a few adjectives that come to mind.I have already booked more time with Chris to start my next "tatt" a Salvador Dali painting...this dude is not only a great Artist but one Helluva nice guy...I highly recommend Chris or any of the other Awesome craftspeople in this super clean Pro shop!!

This is a solid true New Jersey shop. Great artists and first rate customer service. I called to book a spot with Scotty Lowe and sent a followup email to share idea. Got a call back same day to set appointment and discuss concept. Got confirmation call and Scotty started and finished on nose. Work is great..healed well and art is fantastic. Scotty took my idea and made it happen. BUT here is what else makes Shotsies a great shop. It is a place where the artists like each other and they care about thier work. Met the owner while there and several of the regulars...great guys. Shotsies is a fanatastic shop and experience...oh yeh and they DO GREAT WORK.Thanks Scotty

I have 15 tattoos from Shotsies. My first tattoo was in the 80's. Then I returned in 2009 for 3 more. Then I returned in 2009 for 3 more. Absolutely beautiful. I came back in 2017. I had an artist, who spoke about someone she had worked with for years. The person sued her without even discussing the issue. I told the artist that was terrible.
But the issue I have, is that a brought a copy of an 8th musical note. The note was the exact note, not just an outline. An outline should have been used because the note was black and, of course, blank ink was used.
I felt more pain than usual. After I removed the saran wrap, there was blood. Part of my skin was inked deeper than it should have been. I sent pictures and went back to show the tattoo. I was told that it would heal and be fine. After three weeks, I sent another picture and was not told to use bacitracin and it would be fine.
This tattoo, I feel cannot be fixed, my skin in missing. I'm not sure if anyone even showed the tattoo to the artist, but no phone call or an attempt to reach out to me. That is a shame, after we spoke about a client that sued her. I am so sorry to have to write this review. I loved this place.

I've gotten all of my tattoos at Shotsie's. I recommend this place for anyone getting a tattoo. It's clean, everyone is a professional, all tools are sterile and fresh out of the bag, and the prices are reasonable. You will always get a high quality tattoo and the staff won't let you make mistakes (i.e. no drunk people on a whim tattoos, no mispelled/grammatically incorrect tattoos). I believe they do cover ups as well. This place is the real deal, not just a corner walk in shop with neon signs that say, "TATTOO". Also, they will do a free touch up afterwards if you are not 100% satisfied. Never had to take the offer because I'm always satisfied leaving Shotsie's.

I'm giving one star based on the fact that I never ACTUALLY got any service to review. Walked in yesterday on a Sunday just to hopefully get a consultation/make an appointment and get some ideas for my first tattoo. The receptionist's desk remained empty for the half hour that I stood there and waited, hoping someone would walk out. I understand if they were short staffed however, I find it unprofessional that no one came to check at any point if customers had arrived. I guess it was a sign that I was supposed to go elsewhere...

I went in for my first tattoo about 3 weeks ago, and I can honestly tell you that Ian's ability and superior-talent as an artist is more than the 5 stars you can put here. He did an amazing tattoo on my back that every one I show asks, "Who did this?!". I was so impressed that I immediately made another appointment (for 2 weeks later). Ian just today "fixed" something for me and I was blown away at what he did with something that looked horrible. I have my last appointment (for at least a while) with him next week. I'm excited to show my tattoos off again! I highly, highly recommend Ian. He came as a recommendation from my brother-in-law who also has amazing work done basically from the neck down. I'd post pictures but I'm in education and this artwork is for me!

I came here to get my first tattoo, I was very excited and nervous. I heard from a friend that they were very friendly and do amazing work here but as soon as I walked in the lady at the front desk didn't even look at me. After minutes of waiting I finally asked if I could get a finger tattoo she gave me a weird look and nastily said that they don't do them with no further explanation and went back to ignoring me. This place is probably great, I've seen their work and it's amazing but I was just taken aback by how I was treated when I walked in.

First and foremost Scotty is one of the nicest people I'll ever know. He did a beautiful memorial tattoo on my shoulder in memory of my father who has been gone from my life for 17 years. I asked him if he ever got burnt out from doing so many tattoos over the years due to such a great reputation for being one of the best artists out there? He simply and humbly replied "No" I truly believe he loves what he's doing and that passion shows in his work. I am so grateful to have met him and honored to have had him tattoo me. My new husband had an old tattoo of him and he's ex wife's name on his chest. He has been wanting to fix it for years, always seemed money could be best spent on something more urgent. However for his birthday this past weekend, I took him here (where he got several other tattoos done before) and we met Scott "Flying Ace" who took my vision (which I drew on paper) of how I wanted to fix his tattoo and cover up her name and add mine and our son's name. Scott took my vision and... it came out fantastic!! You cant even tell where the old one was! It came out even better then I expected! Contemplated in giving this place either three or four stars... But four stars it is! And only because it is expensive. If I'm not mistaken, they charge $175 for every hour... Yikes! Also, this may be a silly reason, but the location of the place is awkward and inconvenient. On another note, Manny was my artist and he did a superb job with my tattoo. Lines were super clean and it healed up well. I showed him a more complex picture of a lion and he was able to simplify it to the exact geometrical look I was aiming for.

The people there are very friendly and helpful. The place is very clean, too. For any future goers they charge $175 /hr and require a deposit which goes towards your tattoo.

My friend and I recently had a couple small tattoos done by Aharja at Shotsie's. I must say I have been to several tattoo establishments in North Jersey and this by far is the most professional and clean one. I first stopped by the shop to make our appointments and show them what we had in mind. I didn't really have a specific artist in mind, so the receptionist gave me time to review the artist portfolio's. After being very impressed with her colorful and clean work, I decided to go with Aharja. The receptionist then introduced me to Aharja who took time out to talk to me and look over our designs. I set our appointments and left the nonrefundable deposit. A couple of days later, my friend and I went in for our appointment. Aharja was ready for us and was great in talking us through everything step by step. She was efficient yet thorough. Our tattoos looked great and we both were very happy with the final results. Not sure if I want any more tattoos, but if do decide to get more, this were I will go.

His "office" is really cool and it's nice to have an artist that not only takes pride in his work, but is an all-around cool guy. Great conversation during the appointment. His office is filled with cool trinkets and conversation pieces.As a whole, the shop is very clean and the rest of the staff were nice and very professional as well. I will post a pic of my completed piece as soon as it's done. Thanks Scotty!!! Can't wait to see it finished! I'm sure I'll be back for a couple more pieces in the future as well.....

Shotsie's is one of only two tattoo shops I will go to. With their work aside, Shotsie's has been around for over 15 years; that fact alone speaks for their credibility. When you first walk in, there are portfolios of all the artists on the coffee table in the middle. Here, you can see all the talent of each artist and can see what their specialty is. All of the artists are professional and skilled in their work. Azarja is my artist and she is the best!! She knows exactly what you're talking about and has a gentle touch for a pain free experience. When I got my first tattoo two years ago, she talked me through the process and explained everything pre-tattoo and post tattoo. The shop is very clean and sanitary. Fresh gloves, needles and ink reservoirs were disposed after each use (as it should be). Everything was done right and I will be back in the future! As an FYI-- they don't accept walk ins so you should go ahead of time and discuss your piece of work with the artist of choice and plan your visit. If you're looking to get your first tattoo or you're not sure if you can handle pain, come to Shotise's and ask for Azarja. It'll be worth it! :)

i have had my ankle/leg tattoo from Kerry for about 4 years now and i cannot tell you how many people stop me to tell me how beautiful it is! I literally walked in not knowing what I wanted, made an appointment for later in the day (lucky me there was a cancellation) and came back and Kerry drew a little sketch on paper so we were on the same page with design, then freehanded 2" sections from foot ,around ankle and snaking up leg until we agreed it was enough! It sure looks amazing!

Ive been getting tattooed here for 11 years, and although the name hasn't changed, its just not the same since Shotsie himself sold it. I recently went in to book a session with Chris DePinto, to finally finish a fairly large piece I had to put on hold for awhile. The Inkshrink has done all my work, and besides exceeding my wildest expectations every time, he's become as much a true friend as the oddly intuitive and talented artist I've come to trust so much. So this time when I went in, I was abruptly told he no longer worked there, and like i'd never been there before, i was refused any more information, And then told "some else there " could finish my tattoo....No offense, but no thank you. For anyone who knows his work, I don't need to explain the obvious reasons of quality that led me to Chris in the first place. Just booked my second appointment and I can't wait! I had my first with Christopher DePinto last year. I almost felt sorry for him initially because from step one I was as nervous and hyper as a schoolgirl, but he was as down-to-earth and laid-back as can be and I completely forgot all my anxieties as soon as I sat down in his chair. He's a way cool, intuitive dude and a true artistic professional. I had a VERY vague idea of what I wanted and he helped me see what i NEEDED. Perfect. I couldn't ask for more from my tattoo artist. I've been to other "high-profile" shops in Jersey where the tattoo artists, and owners for that matter, will repeatedly interrupt their session to text, but that definitely didn't happen here. Love Shotsies. (and they know good pizza too)

Of an intricate detailed Jethro Tull album cover art from the '70's...Amazing,spectacular,incredible just a few adjectives that come to mind.I have already booked more time with Chris to start my next "tatt" a Salvador Dali painting...this dude is not only a great Artist but one Helluva nice guy...I highly recommend Chris or any of the other Awesome craftspeople in this super clean Pro shop!!

This is a solid true New Jersey shop. Great artists and first rate customer service. I called to book a spot with Scotty Lowe and sent a followup email to share idea. Got a call back same day to set appointment and discuss concept. Got confirmation call and Scotty started and finished on nose. Work is great..healed well and art is fantastic. Scotty took my idea and made it happen. BUT here is what else makes Shotsies a great shop. It is a place where the artists like each other and they care about thier work.
