Very cute place in Somerville, the aesthetics were clean, welcoming and bright.The receptionist was a bit dismissive and acted surprised to see me walk into the space, not sure why. I waited roughly 45 minutes for an consultation since I was a walk in and did not have an appointment. I came in with a photo and my artist took the photo and drew and exact replica of what I wanted. She was very professional and distracted me during the whole tattooing process which made the pain bearable. I found the place through yelp, everyone's review were true that this is a great place! So a bunch of us ladies decided to get the New Jersey State Flower (Violet) and they were more than happy to accommodate 8 of us on a last minute basis. I had Lou Morgue do my first tattoo and he was great. Since than I have tried to connect with him and his follow up truly is horrible. Takes weeks to reply back. I had a walk in tattoo done by Ali, it was an 8-bit Tardis. 8-bit tattoos aren't easy to do because the lines have to be very straight, Ali had excellent line work, very clean and crisp. She also had many great suggestions on the location of where the tattoo was going to go as well as the placement. She was very attentive and personable, I had a lot of fun getting tattooed by her and can't be more pleased with my new ink!The tattoo shop is very clean and comfortable, the staff are very friendly and the prices are fair. Christine did AMAZING work on my right arm tattoo...we were completely in sync when it came to coloring...which Christine is AMAZINGLY talented at...it's been 2 years...since then I've had a son...and, I STILL have a part of the tat to finish! (Not to mention a big tip for Christine, if she's still there!) If not, I'd go back anyway...the staff is very professional, the studio is impeccably clean...when you walk in, you immediately can tell that tattooing and piercing is a passion for these folks. I am in the process of a Calf Sleeve done by Chris. It was started in another shop and is ongoing at Artisanal. The difference from shops is tremendous. Within 10 minutes of being at the shop I had spoken to each artist at least once. I was asked if I wanted coffee or snacks by 3 different people there. The atmosphere is welcoming and the staff friendly. I have followed my tattoo artist from one shop to another and the change in atmosphere from that shop to artisanal is night and day. I have been coming to Artisanal Tattoo from the day I went to their Grand Opening. They have a wonderful and knowledgeable staff. I have been tattooed by 3 of the 4 artists in the shop because I know that all of them are fantastic. Not a day goes by that I don't get stopped by strangers so they can comment on my tattoos. Great nice clean shop. Very professional. Dave is a great tattoo artist: nice enough guy though you wouldn't know it because he barely takes his eyes up from his work--THIS IS GOOD when someone is putting ink into your body. He took my idea, upped the ante, and came up with a beautiful design that was just what I always wanted, but didn't know it yet. My friends and I set up an appointment a week ahead of time, because the place was booked. It cost 50 bucks for all three of us, and we gave our artist, Lou Morgue, an idea of what we wanted.A week later he had drawn up some really good stuff. we started at 4pm, and he did not stop until 1am when he had finished all three of us. He is very skilled, and it seems the other artists are too. Our ink turned out greater than we had hoped, and he seemed to really take pride in his work. It was a little bit pricey, but I you get what you pay for, and with a tattoo, you have to go for quality. I highly recommend this place. Read Less
