I had the tattoo removal process done starting over a year ago. From the first session I developed scarring in the area. They were small raised circles where he had applied the solution. It was told to me that it may have been the incorrect caring instructions given to me by an employee in the shop. I gave it sometime before going for the second session. This time I followed their instructions to the T. After 10 weeks the raised circles were still visible and the tattoo although a bit lighter it was still visible. I kept going back to the shop to show them how the area wasn't improving; all they kept saying was to give it time and keep moisturizing and applying the surgical tape on it. I went to consult with other tattoo and skin professionals and was told the area is scarred. I recently decide to get a cover up at another shop due to the unflattering scarring visible to people. So I can't speak for the tattoos, but this review is in regards to the tattoo removal this place does and their lack of customer service after said tattoo removal process goes wrong. Long story short, I wanted a tattoo removed. Rorschach Gallery advertises tatt2away as a safe and effect tattoo removal option that is more effective than laser. I spoke with the technician and was assured that my tattoo would be removed in 2 sessions. 4 sessions later, instead of a removed tattoo, I'm left with a hideous scar on my forearm. To make matters worse, when I tried to talk to them about my experience, I was told that I might need another session to clean it up. No one would let me speak to a manager in regards to my removal process or lack thereof, instead they told me that the healing process could take years. Years??? My skin is scarred, raised, and discolored, and I should wait a few years to see if it will heal? I ended up going to a dermatologist to havemy forearm PROFESSIONALLY looked at and it turns out, my skin is completely scarred layers deep. I need two different lasers just to bring my skin back to a normal texture and then either get a cover up or have a third and separate laser treatment done to bring my complexion back. All the artists and staff are very friendly and professional.  They do all they can to make you comfortable and relaxed throughout the entire process.  The studios are very clean and each artist takes their time to sterilize and prep their work space for each client.  They have plenty of artists that specialize in many different tattoos styles. Recently had my 11 month old daughter's ears pierced at Rorschach by Alex Christopher. He was very gentle, extremely knowledgeable, and professionalism personified. I took my daughter here Saturday to get her first tattoo, and to get one for myself as well.  They came highly recommended from a friend. Our artist was Marcel.  He did a fantastic job on my daughters tattoo as well as mine.   He was able to take my daughter's thumb prints and turn it in to a heart, then take her name in her handwriting above the heart. I had the pleasure of getting my dream sleeve tattoo by Sergey the last two days and I am blown away. The shop is laid back, super clean, and everyone was super friendly. This was my second tattoo here so my experience was so great I felt comfortable enough to bring my dad here for his first tattoo. This is the kind of spot that made you feel welcome like I totally saw I couple soccer moms throwing down on hidden tattoos. For two 9 hour days Sergey was super patient, accommodating and chill. He gave me just enough breaks asked me if I was ok and offered to finish my tattoo next time he was in town if I couldn't take the pain. 100 percent would recommend him on that alone. It pains me to leave this review because I've heard so many good things about this place, as well as having seen such amazing work in the portfolios of artists working there - to be clear, this review pertains to my experience communicating with the people at Rorschach Gallery, not to the quality of their work. I had reached out to Rorschach looking to have a tattoo on my wrist covered up. (Some backstory, I had had some remorse in getting a flash tattoo in that particular spot on my wrist and was hoping to get some second opinions about getting a cover-up there; it wasn't long after I had gotten the initial tattoo, so I was already embarrassed about asking, but I wanted to know for the future so I could move ahead with it when the time was right. Normally I put a lot more thought into decisions like this, but everyone makes mistakes sometimes.) I first called them for information and was told to visit in person to talk to an artist (Brian) and see a portfolio. I made time later that week to stop by - Brian wasn't available, but I was told vaguely by the person at the front desk that Brian might not be available for cover-ups. I was given an e-mail address and told to contact him about my inquiry. So I putzed back home, typed out a detailed e-mail, and never heard back. A few weeks went by, so I decided to contact the shop via their main e-mail address just to follow up - again, never heard back. It's been over a month and I still haven't gotten a response.I understand that it's a busy studio and that there may have been various reasons for the lapse in communication (I kept asking myself if it was it my fault for asking so soon after getting the initial tattoo, or if my e-mails had just gotten lost in the cracks). I just didn't feel very assured seeing that no attempt was made to get in touch after taking the time to be thorough and respectful in explaining my situation, I guess. I know they've got at least one amazing tattooist, but it seems their standards for hiring are very low. The young woman standing in for their normal piercer was extremely unprofessional and lacking in basic skills. The rest of the staff I encountered (I decided not to have any services done with them, and am relieved) also behaved unprofessionally. I get that tattooing and piercing are fairly unique professions in terms of how you can behave with clients. No one wants to go in for a tattoo consultation and feel like they just walked into TGIFridays, but there should be a lower bound on how nonchalant and disinterested any professional can be. I had gotten my conch done somewhere else and it became infected. The earring ended up being stuck inside my ear and I had no way of getting it out. I stopped by this ear parlor who had helped me a while ago with another piercing problem and they were so great about it. To put it into perspective, I've got 6 large tattoos spanning 12 sessions of between 5-6 hours each. I'd like to consider myself rather knowledgeable in this realm. My experience with Rorschach Gallery & Brian Mahovetz (Sunday Brian) has been the best yet. The culture of the gallery itself is barbershop-esque in the best of ways. The staff aren't just friendly with their own clients, but with everyone's clients, engaging in riveting conversations about a myriad of topics while simultaneously being efficient and effective in their work. If you're the quiet type, there is no obligation to engage, all are welcome to sit or lay silently and get tattooed by some of the best artists they'll encounter if they wish. Those who are especially social will find Rorschach Gallery to their liking. The artists are wildly talented, I follow a number of them on Instagram. Sunday Brian is a co-owner and he worked on my American Flag full sleeve tattoo. To say that he did a great job would be an understatement. A better description would be that there is no element of the art, nor the experience that could have gone better, simply perfect all-around.I find myself now looking for more tattoos I could possibly get. Truth-be-told, I hadn't expected to want another tattoo so quickly after my last. Due to the standard that has been set in place from Dan and Brian I went in with a very high expectation. Elly far surpassed every expectation that I had. The short version: Ryan Farkas is an amazing artist whom you should work with for your tattoo, and Rorschach is the coolest studio I have been in.The longer version: I have had a tribal tattoo (that I have never liked) on my arm for 20 years. It was bad and mostly solid black. Other shops in the area either wanted nothing to do with the cover-up, or if they could help me, quoted outrageous prices because their egos/Instagram fame had them thinking they're celebrities and that that's more important than helping a client. So I was pointed toward Rorschach by many happy clients, and specifically to Ryan Farkas, as I was told he's amazing with cover-ups.The artists seem very close, as everyone was checking out and complimenting each others' work or simply having (hilarious) conversations. They helped each other with equipment to ensure their clients all received the best possible work they could (it seems like a small detail, but I've visited shops where the vibe was almost competitive, and no one would consider helping another artist out). Ryan was friendly, gracious, informative, and above all, is an extremely talented artist. As I told my friend, Ryan is not of this earth; he made my original tattoo completely disappear and now I have an amazing piece that I will be proud to show off. Full disclosure: I didn't even get a tattoo here.  So why the 5 stars?   I came in, to ask about finger tattoos. Specifically a ring finger tattoo. I'm a nurse, so I wash my hands maybe every 3 minutes. Hundreds of times a day.  Wearing a ring isn't ideal. There are other options. Like a rubber ring. Or wearing a ring on a chain around your neck. But I always liked the idea of a ring finger tattoo with my wife's name.  So I read up on it.  And various sites said the same negative things: it fades easily, and it's bad mojo (sometimes). Now I knew going into any tattoo parlor that didn't have the reputation this place has, that they would just say "yea totally I can do that. Let's do it right now."   So I did my research of reputable tattoo parlors, and Rorschach's was consistently at the top of many lists of "best in NJ".  I knew I had to come here to get my tattoo, or at least get their honest opinion.  And right away, I met Dennis. Dennis was STRAIGHT UP with me and didn't bullshit me at all. He said he didn't like doing them or recommend them because exactly what I read.  They fade, it's bad mojo, and since I'm a nurse I use alcohol-based hand rubs to clean my hands at work, it will make it fade even faster.   He told me all this straight up when he could've easily said "yea totally, let's do it" and make a quick buck.  As someone who doesn't know much about tattoos, I appreciate this type of customer service.  I told Dennis when my wife and I do decide to get a tattoo in another spot, we're gonna book with him.   So I can't recommend this place based on their work. But I can recommend it based on their honesty and integrity.  And that core value alone earns them all the praise from me they can get. Read Less

Found this place through some digging on the internet. So I went to check them out since my usual tattooist is out of the country. Lol. I was greeted by petite tattooed woman who was more than helpful. I'm reviewing piercing and tattooing. I took my adult child with me first time to check shop out. He ended up getting pierced. Let me tell you the guy was so professional and efficient. Great piercer. Made my adult child feel comfortable. Prices are on point and reasonable. When you first walk in the walls are adorned with art for sale by the tattooist which is nice to see that they have artistic ability bc that makes for an awesome tattooist IMO. I'm a very picky tattoo customer for many reasons..too long to explain.  I will say this they did win several awards in NJ. So they must be doing something right.Okay down to tattoo. It took me almost a month to finally get one. I knew what I wanted to get and where. Now I had to figure out who was going to do it. I explained to the sweet girl what I was looking to get and she told me who would be perfect for me. So we set up a consultation and some paper work. So next time I went in we discussed what I wanted, so had to go back in 2 weeks to see design. Then once that was taken care of I was ready to make appointment for tattoo. I do like that they are thorough on paper work which is alot and it can be tedious. Anyway, you do have to give a non refundable deposit, most respectable shops do that so it makes you come back and show how serious you are about appointment and don't waste their time. Time is money. Well finally yesterday was the day. Appointment was at 4pm but tattooist had alot of interruptions so I didn't actually start getting tattooed till almost 5pm. Which was a little disconcerting but I had prepared to be there for awhile. My tattooist Ryan, was sweet,professional and understanding.  He took his time and asked me questions as we were deciding on details about the tattoo.  He made me feel comfortable and at ease despite the area(painful slightly) I was getting tattooed. In an hour it was done and I was totally happy with end result. I can't wait to go back and get the others i have planned. Totally great shop and definitely worth a check in. They also do cover ups, tattoo removal, piercings, and tattoo make up( which from what I've seen is amazing) So come on what are you waiting for time to get some ink!!!Now that makes for an awesome 300th review!! My daughter and I got our first tattoos here on May 5th.  Jay was our artist and he was fantastic. Losing our dog prompted our tattoos.  We made the appointment two weeks in advance in person and met Jay and Brian. Both of them were friendly and sympathetic about us losing our dog.  On the day of our tattoo, Jay was on time and had our tattoo designs already prepared exactly how we wanted them.  He was patient and helpful while we were stressing about placement, never making us feel like we were a burden. Even though the tattoos were small, we were still treated that our tattoos were important. Jay explained the process before he began and made us feel comfortable and confident that our first inks would be nothing short of perfect. He is a skilled artist. I have come to this amazing shop for almost 3 years now. Although Dan is my go to guy, I have been tattooed by a few other artists for smaller pieces, and pierced by Alex numerous times. First of all, i would like to say that I have never had such a blast getting a tattoo. Brian, Dennis, and Dan are three of the coolest guys on earth! Those were some pretty funny convos....thanks. This form of tattoo removal is just as expensive as laser and it SCARS horribly. Also the artist quoted me one price, did the job, and then charged me more which I clearly wasn't prepared for. Beware everyone. If you're really looking to get a tattoo removed, consider laser first. It's been around longer and your tattoo will actually be gone. Read Less

My bestie and I had decided we wanted to get tattoos,  not matching though, but from the same artist.  Dan is incredible at what he does.  I got a libra symbol on my left inner bicep and she got a rose and saying on her left shoulder. We were told that they use these newer tattoo guns that are quieter and it's so true.  It actually really helped the experience.  Dan was personable and kept the conversation flowing. I about Rorschach Gallery through a friend, Craig Rzewnicki, who had numerous skin-art designs created there.   So, I called them, went in and was introduced to Sunday Brian. Brian is the Artist that has a talent for portraits. Without going into a very long and emotional story about how special my cat was to me, Brian went to work creating my tat, from the pix I gave him.   On "Art Day", Brian made me very welcome and comfortable as he worked his magic.   Brian captured the essence of Boo's personality and physical features. To me, a tattoo is very personal,  a permanent commitment on your body and I cannot downplay how anxious I felt about a successful outcome.   Well,                  BRIAN NAILED IT!!!!!!To say, I am thrilled with Brian's artistry, is a gross understatement.  Brian is so very talented and has done a terrific job. The guys here are so amazing! I've known Dennis, Brian, and Danny since before their days here at Rorschach....and not only are they really great artists but they are good guys.  They really care about their clients, and you can tell from all the repeat customers, that they are great! The shop is a good size and very clean.  I recommend them all the time when people ask where I got my tattoos.  It's a fun environment too, and the time flies when getting a tattoo.  Dennis happens to be my artist, and did my first tattoo 15 years ago....but all the guys are great. Just finished my second piece here and could not be happier.  The guys that work here really care about you, take their time and create real works of art.  I've actually stopped people in town when I've seen a bad ass tattoo and asked where they got it done and they answer back "Rorschach."Everyone at this shop is super friendly and easy to talk to.  The shop is clean and neat- TVs playing music or movies.  When I wanted to watch something they had no problem turning the TV to the station I wanted.  Very relaxed environment to get a tattoo.  They answer your questions and send follow up emails to see how the healing is going.  The bottom line is- these guys actually give a crap.I was so happy I found these guys after so many shops in the area blew me off after walking in and asking to see portfolios.  Like they were offended that I wanted to make sure I wasn't about to get ruined.  I'd definitely recommend anyone looking for some ink to go, check out the artists, talk to the guys and make the right choice by getting some work done here.
