Had a tattoo with Ace which turned out horrible. Super uneven. Blurry. And she was an hour late! Seriously? Meanwhile had to listen to the owner berating a client. I felt worse for the client than for myself. I don’t know how anyone can sit there and be verbally accused while getting tattoed. The “art” coming out of this place that day was horrible so I feel misled as to what they post on their website. My first ever tattoo was done by a different shop. (I didn't know any better) Johnny did my second then shortly afterwards reworked my first. I just got my third from him yesterday. As always, he went above and beyond with my initial idea. Already planning my fourth. I won't let any other tattoo artist touch me. I can't say enough about the experience of Seppuku. After Johnny did the best portrait tattoo I've ever seen (was a bday present for my boyfriend) we won't go anywhere else. The vibe is chill and friendly. He makes you extremely comfortable- and he's REAL. He's not like several other arrogant artists I've been to. I looked for years to find a shop that could cover up the mediocre work I got when I was younger. Every artist I consulted told me I'd have to cover with large pieces of solid black. Then I met Matt and Johnny, and they blew me away with their portfolios, advice and experience. Matt did my cover ups, and since he relocated Johnny has given me several beautiful pieces of original artwork. The reviews on here trashing Johnny are from people that don't know how seriously he takes his craft, and the time he puts into his art. If you make an appointment, show up. If you can't make it, call to cancel. If an artist tells you something about your design won't work, listen to them because they do indeed know better than you do when it comes to how to do their job. He has been an absolute pleasure to work with, and I'm proud to call him a friend after spending many hours in his chair. He may have a take no shit attitude, but it's an admirable quality in a sea of people that will tell you whatever you want to hear, then trash you when you walk out the door. If you have delicate sensibilities, can't handle constructive criticism or are easily offended by the word fuck, this might not be the place for you.  If you want quality custom body art, and you enjoy meeting interesting, funny, and intelligent people that refuse to compromise their principles, then definitely stop in for a consult. The owner Johnny Thief was unbelievably rude both in person and over the phone. When I asked about having the design for a tattoo changed I was actually yelled at and told that he'd "been tattooing longer than I've been alive". Every question I asked was met with a raised voice and attitude. When I spoke on the phone with another artist at Seppuku, his solution to the problem was that if I didn't like the way Thief spoke to me I should just cancel my appointment and that will be the end of it. Johnny's arrogant, self-righteous attitude offsets his artistic ability. I urge anyone reading this to consider one of the dozens of other talented artists in the area who truly care about their work and aren't just looking for an opportunity to inflate their own ego. Tattoo parlors are akin to pizza joints and sushi bars and barber shops - everyone has their favorite that they're fiercely loyal to and rarely jump ship to a new place.  And I never thought I'd go anywhere besides Shotsie's but on the recommendation of a valued friend I did just that to Seppuku and damn happy I did.It's bright, it's clean, the peeps inside are insanely talented and way cool.  Yes - of course you're going to walk in and see a painting of a hot babe on top of a bed of skulls.  Why?  Because it's a tattoo shop!  You're going to hear trivia regarding Dario Argento movies and see a Minor Threat photo and Dead Kennedys logo.  Why?  Because it's a tattoo shop, dammit!  But then where else  are you going to then hear about the benefits of a juicing diet or how it's actually the Coast Guard and not the Marines that are tough SOB's?!The artists here definitely take pride in their (exceptional) work.  They understand that while it's you that will be sporting the ink till the cows come home (that's from the Book of Revelations I believe) it reflects on them just as much what you have on your body.Worth the trip and worth the pain.  (Thank you Ali for my piece!) Top notch. Had the extreme pleasure of being tattooed by Matt (who is relocating at the end of this year) and he is amazing. He gave me an incredible portrait, it's really better than anything I could have imagined. Very nice guy and someone who cares about his art a lot. One of my friends has been tattooed by Johnny and his work is fantastic as well. Clean, friendly shop. If you are using your GPS to get there, it's going to say YOU ARE HERE before you actually get there for some odd reason....just continue on Main St. until it splits and stay left, the shop is right around the bend on the left.
