If you are a female, FORGET about letting Rock Capalbo touch you. Do NOT even walk into Rock City Tattoos. In this day and age of #metoo, we, as females, cannot let perverts like Rock take advantage of us any longer. Please continue to read below after you read my personal experience. These reviews are taken from Yelp, Facebook, and Google reviews with accompanying dates and the sourceMy personal experience: Went for a piercing, Rock LOCKED the door behind him and insisted I suck on a lollipop 'so I don't pass out'. This is NOT standard operating procedure at ANY reputable piercing place. You would want to eat in ADVANCE of getting a piercing for purposes of keeping blood sugar steady, not during (choking hazard much?). What should have been a 5 minute process turned into an hour because he wouldn't stop hitting on me. He kept touching me in places the piercing didn't constitute touching. He also proceeded to talk about how he enjoys wrestling in a sexual manner, his affinity towards Domination, and flexed in front of the mirror and wanted me to kiss his pecs. Gross.And now, the other reviews: Yelp - 1 year ago - 'Got my nose pierced 12/11. Was really uncomfortable the whole time because the man doing the piercing kept touching my thighs and questioning my ethnicity. Only put up with it to get my nose pierced.'Yelp - Over 3 years ago - 'I got my nose pierced here a few days ago. The guy that did it made me very uncomfortable. The whole time he was really creepy and I felt very weird being alone with him as a young female. The people who worked at the front desk were really nice but the man was just really really creepy and pervy and I would not recommend this place, especially if you are going alone.'Google reviews - 9 months ago - 'I got my septum pierced here on a Saturday. He asked if he could touch my legs to move me because I wasn't understanding how he wanted me to sit. When I said sure he responded with something like "you know white girls they claim harassment when you touch them" which rubbed me the wrong way but whatever I let it go.'Google reviews - a year ago - 'I didnt appreciate the owner calling me overweight and i felt he was too touchy.'Just look at some of the owner's responses, and you'll see his lack of responsibility, complete unprofessionalism, and lack of disregard that correlated with THE TRUTH these women are saying. Notice they're over several years, and not in the same span of time. His responses to reviews, 'I know you are a millennial therefore a coward, and have to hide behind a computer screen to make up stories. Grow up and get a life! We recommend church and finding Jesus in your life', 'You are a millennial, an underachiever and weak!' 'You have alot of nerve to talk about being professional, coming from a hoodrat. You're ghetto on steroids', 'You should go to church and repent', 'YOU ARE PATHETIC. I KNOW YOU ARE A MILLENNIAL, THEREFORE YOU ARE A COWARD. I KNOW YOU DO NOT CARE BECAUSE YOU ARE A RICH WHITE PRIVILEGE GIRL . GROW UP, GET A LIFE, AND START GOING TO CHURCH. TRUST ME. YOU NEED JESUS IN YOUR LIFE. This is not a female friendly establishment! Yes, he does have a few females that are employed by him, but he has even MORE who have left from sexual harassment and threats of physical harm. FEMALES STAY AWAY! SHARE THIS WITH EVERYONE YOU KNOW.To owners reply: LOL all of my negative reviews are valid. I also have great reviews in there too. Funny how you don't mention them. I never said I'm "tough". And why didn't I speak up? Because it's not every day you're locked in a room with an aggressive man and you're terrified to speak up about being sexually harassed while in a vulnerable position because society teaches you to be polite. My experience here was problematic on many levels. First off, the owner made multiple sexist and racism comments, and was a little too touchy. He also insulted my entire generation and was super cheesy about being Italian and enforcing negative stereotypes. He gave me a free t shirt which was nice, but he insinuated to my friend and I that we needed bigger sizes than we asked for. I came in for a cartilage piercing and left 45 minutes later because he would not stop talking. Next, he told me that he was a self taught piercer... I almost left but he had already taken everything out (the only good thing I have to say is the needle and earring were new and clean). He did not go slow at all, he literally just jammed it in my ear. Then he told me to use bactine to clean the piercing, which is not a good idea (he didn't give me any aftercare instructions until I asked). He also made fun of me for asking questions. I went to a different place a few days later to get another piercing and they told me he used the wrong type of earring for my piercing. Don't go here!! Go to Jinx proof instead.

I went to Rock City for a cover up tattoo . The shop is warm and inviting. The staff are friendly and very kind. The establishment itself, is spotless . My tattoo took three hours to complete but the great atmosphere made the session seem like half an hour. I highly recommend Rock City for people of all ages. I will definitely be going back with friends for our next tattoos.

I read the Google reviews before I read anything on Yelp & they have over 250 reviews and almost 5 stars! Which is worthy I would say. The owner pierced my septum & he was a funny guy with lots of stories. (Which kept me calm & distracted). I can't wait to see how my piercing healed & will update when it does. I personally would go back there. I did not feel uncomfortable or creeped out at all, some people just need to learn how to have a sense of humor. (Nope, I did not have my thighs groped as mentioned in other reviews) Had I felt uncomfortable, I DEFINITELY would not let someone stick a needle in my nose. Thank you Rock City!!

Got my nose pierced on 12/11. Was really uncomfortable the whole time because the man doing the piercing kept touching my thighs and questioning my ethnicity. Only put up with it just to get my nose pierced. On top of that, the piercing was done way high up than it should have been. I ended up taking it out last week because I was just too unhappy with my experience and the placement. I don't really recommend coming here for a nose piercing.

GREAT PLACE! I had given a call to Rock, the owner last year stating I was interested in getting my first tattoo. I was extremely nervous and asked a thousand questions over the phone in which Rock answered every single one of them with professionalism and made me feel comfortable. I then went to Rock City a few days later to get an estimate and to show Rock what I was looking to get done. My boyfriend also was going to get a tattoo as well. Rock and his staff were very friendly, knowledgeable, and made the process that much easier on me! The place was extremely clean and you could tell they really knew their stuff! I then scheduled my appointment and went back a week later with my boyfriend! I was shaking like a leaf but Rock sat next to be in the mini reception area and told me it will be fine. Peter had done my tattoo and he said I took it like a champ! I will be going back very soon for my second tattoo! Thank you Rock City...you ROCK!

A friend recommended the shop to me after getting her nipples pierced there. I'm extremely picky about where I get piercings. Not going to lie, I was really hesitant to go after reading all of the negative reviews, but I figured I could go and at least just get a feel for the place. I wanted to get just a regular nose piercing and I was greeted by the owner, Rock. I very quickly got to filling out paperwork and the owner was extremely friendly, funny and immediately wants to get to know you. Within 5 minutes he took me into the back room to set up and we must've sat and talked for about 20 minutes before even discussing the piercing much. Extremely friendly, just wants to make you feel comfortable. He offered me a lollipop while we talked and we talked about all sorts of stuff. Then he marked the spot on my nose, asked if it was okay, and in like less than a minute i had a needle through my nose. Didn't even hurt really. The jewelry switch out wasn't bad either. He had me talking the whole time so it was a really pleasant experience. He cleaned me up, we talked a bit more. Took our picture and I was on my merry way! The nose piercing with jewelry was only $40. I bought the saline spray too and he gave me a t-shirt for free! Believe me, the guy definitely just says what he wants but he knows what hes doing. Would definitely recommend for the average piercing.

This resulted in the tattoo getting infected and left me with a shitty looking tattoo and severe scar tissue underneath. Do not go here. They fucking suck. The idiot owner must have known his artist fucked up because when I went in to show them it was infected he gave me my money back. They should be put out of business.UPDATE : I wish I were lying. Then I would not be walking around with a messed up tattoo at the hands of your artist.

So happy with my piercing. I looked up tons of places and read reviews and I read nothing but good things about Rock. When I called for price estimates, he gave me advice for before my piercing to help. When I went in he let my friends stay with me, and he was talking to me casually. He is super personable and made it a really friendly environment. I was really nervous about my piercing, but I am happy I chose there and will definitely refer him for piercings/tattoos to my friends.

I went to see if they could come up with a drawing to cover up a tattoo. I was not told that the deposit for $50 was non refundable which I wouldn't mind if it wasn't if they even tried attempting to send me a draw up of what they can cover up my tattoo with. I left the deposit 3 weeks ago, the emails I sent after the first one were responded to a day or 2 later, I did not get my first email for a few days. The first drawing I did not like (which is fine if they tried to do more to my liking but they didn't). I sent them a picture of a tattoo that I wanted and they said ok and asked me my availability. I told them and they told me an appointment with the artist wouldn't be available until a Tuesday in the afternoon. I said ok but never got a confirmation e-mail (also take note that the tattoo that they we agreed upon was the one I picked out, not the 1 tattoo that they drew up). Now I am not trying to be a dick, but after seeing the first drawing and the way they were responding to my e-mails, I got the vibe that I wasn't a priority and if I am paying $150 an hour, at least make an effort. Every person wants to go to a tattoo parlor and feel like the artist wants to do a great piece on them, not feel like it's just another tattoo. I get it if they are busy but still, I am out $50 for a half ass attempt. Well if that's how they work than that's better than paying them hundreds for a half ass tattoo. Also in response to the comment below, don't lie. I have the emails to show how reluctant you guys were in responding. I don't leave reviews for fun, tattoos are serious and it's also someone's hard earned money. You do not have anything saying the deposits are non refundable and that's not even the point . Now you're lying when I can show you that your emails you sent me were sent days apart. They were all successful in going through and I got all of your emails. When I did try to set up an appointment I got no confirmation. Not even a phone call. It's cool because the other 1 star reviews this place has speaks for itself. I own my own business and I don't care if someone spends $1 or $1000 they get treated like gold. Not so much with your place

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! This is my 3rd time visiting Rock City Tattoo and every time I go there it just keeps getting better and better. You can't beat the artists' work and the owner, Rock himself, is always there and wants to make sure the customer is taking care of. I just had my 2nd piercing done and Rock really made me feel comfortable. The place is very clean and he really took the time to calm my nerves. He's a real pro and I can't wait to come back for the tattoo I've been talking to them about. They are the best at what they do - go there and find out for yourself!

What a great day it was when I decided to go to Rock City Tattoo with my friends. I had no intentions of getting a tattoo or a piercing, but, I ended up with both. I was so impressed with the artists there and their work, that I could not resist. I had a tattoo in mind, but wasn't sure of where I wanted to put it, or on the colors. They assisted my in both. They seemed t know exactly what I wanted. I went ahead with their ideas and I have gotten soooo many compliments on it. I also got a piercing while I was there too. The owner, Rock, was so nice and the staff was so friendly. They went out of their way to make sure you got exactly what you want. Stop by and see what I mean. They're the best!

Once my tattoo was finished I was informed for my cover up I would need to provide a 60.00 deposit. I was given the card with the artist Peter's name and the deposit paid as well. Sadly the artist mother passed and he was not there for my appointment. I also then had health issues as well. I took the card in and explained the issue. The artist advised the owner i...t was his handwriting. The owner stated " I don't know who you are. It looks like she wrote it in". I was absolutely disgusted. I was given my money back but was treated as if I was a criminal. No one should have to go through that when they are giving a business their money. I will take my money and go to a tattoo parlor who has enough sense to know that life happens..don't take a deposit from a customer. Let them pay when the work is done. I had the absolute worst experience at this tattoo parlor. I got a tattoo in Dec 2015 and also wanted a cover up. My tattoo artist name was Peter who was very nice ,however, they required a 60.00 deposit on my 2nd tattoo which was a cover up. I was given a card signed by Peter stating the date and 60.00 deposit. Sadly the artist Peter's mother passed away and I also had surgery.I was not able to go back right away to get the tattoo due to the the artist being out of town and my personal health issue. I went in the shop to finish my tattoo and also had the card handy. The artist Peter's advised it was his handwriting but the owner stated "He didn't know me" She probably wrote the amount in. It was absolutely insulting because I was advised I had to put a deposit down. I value good work and would have gone there for my 3rd tattoo. The way I was treated today was horrible and I would never recommend this place to anyone. I should have followed my gut and not put a deposit down. I was given my 60.00 back and will be more than happy to give my money to a tattoo shop who treats customers with respect*****Update****** the owner is now stating to make matters worse I threatened him bodily harm. Really???? If the owner thought I was lying why did you give me my money back??? The most unprofessional place I've ever been. How was I trying to get a free tattoo when you advised the cover up would be 200 for both and the deposit was 60.00. You did nothing to make the situation better. A grown man arguing with a woman over a deposit she did in fact make. YOUR OWN ARTIST SAID IT WAS HIS HANDWRITING!!! I said to your face it was because I'm black. I'm a hard working mother who doesn't need to rip off people to get tattoos.I will not go back and forth with an ignorant racist. Me and my boyfriend decided to go to this tattoo shop, we waited 10 minutes before we even received a greeting. I really want a tattoo and was in a good mood so I did not let this deter me. After explaining what type of tattoo I wanted the owner rock interrupted me and the tattoo artist and informed me i woukd have to pay upfront. I have over 20 tattoos from over 5 shops on 5 different states and have never been asked to pay upfront(even at the gas station they don't ask this if you are paying with cash). Rock then told me and my boyfriend that if we don't like the rules nobody is forcing us to stay here. I was shocked and totally embarrassed, my boyfriend who who shys away from confrontation kept quiet and because everyone was looking at me I prepaid for my tattoo even though it was a hour wait. The owner, who is the nastiest person I ever met then took out a counterfeit decking marking and checked each bill, he commented to his employee that he was shocked it was real. At that point I had enough I got my money back and told him I would not patronize this place, he replied that he didnt need my money and open the front door for us to leave. Anotjer customer was so appalled that she and her friends left and call him a few choice curse words and even apologized to me for what he made me go through. Please don't support this bussines the entire staff is not bad but the owner is a despicable human.*************************************************Update: you are a loser and a very hateful man. Everytime you have a negative review it is a lie or somebody is out to get you, maybe it's just the fact you suck at what you do. So everyone is lying and only you are telling the truth. My first experience with getting a tattoo was an exceptional one. First, let me begin by saying that I wasn't at all sure of what I wanted. My friend took me to Rock City Tattoo and the owner, Rock, was very patient with me, showing me different etchings and asking me a lot of questions about myself to determine what kind I'd like. I knew I didn't want something large or on a part of my body that could be seen by everyone. Getting a tattoo was a very personal matter and I ...didn't want to be rushed. The staff really took their time and didn't pressure me at all. Once I decided what I wanted and where to place it, the rest was easy. It didn't take long at all. The colors popped and I was overwhelmed with the artistry. And, Rock really knows how to make you feel comfortable - just like family. He is truly one of a kind. I first met Rock, the owner of Rock City Tattoo, many years ago at a charitable event. He donates a lot of his time and energy into worthwhile causes and puts his heart and soul into them. My first impression of Rock is that he is an upstanding citizen with a heart of gold. Whatever he does, he does with honor. His establishment carries on the same traits. He treats each customer with the utmost respect, courtesy and friendliness. He takes such pride in the work he does and makes sure each customer is treated individually, respecting each of their own ideas of what they want in a tattoo. A tattoo parlor with that much integrity, talent, and creativity, why would you go anywhere else? Truly a great guy, great staff, and a great shop!

I would've just left if he hadn't already gotten everything sterilized and ready. I winced because it hurt(duh, it's a needle piercing my skin) and he said "wow, I can't believe you reacted like that." Just a very rude and unprofessional guy. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. *update* my piercing is almost healed, and it is completely uneven with the one I had previously. I don't know why he measured if he was going to mess it up anyway.

I am giving Rock City one star...the place is nice the girl that did my tatto was friendly, nice and made me comfortable to be there...this was not my first tattoo....my 4th and my 2nd finger tattoo...after about 5 days it starts rubbing off like a fake tattoo! After about 10 days I go to where I had my 1st finger tattoo...the only reason why I didn't go back to the Hoboken tattoo parlor was I don't live near there anymore and parking is awful...I live in Rutherford and this place was a 5min drive from my house...anyway long story short...they will redo it for me...I speak with the owner of Rock City...does not want to give me a refund or at least partial refund...just bad business...now a simple finger tattoo is going to cost me in $200+...all I wanted was a refund so I could get it fixed somewhere else....

So let's start with this. The reason why I gave a 4 instead of lower is because I could really tell the owner knew what he was doing and he was very kind. There were a couple of big things for me that I didn't like.. he pierced my ear without showing me or confirming with me where he was going to do it.. the next piercing I got I made sure he showed me. Next thing I thought that was extremely strange was he did not talk to me at all about aftercare. He only asked me if I wanted to buy the spray but no discussion of when I could take the earring out or what I should be doing. I have a lot of piercings so maybe he didn't think it was necessary to say it but that was a huge red flag for me. Overall the experience was pleasant, because like I said, the owner was extremely nice and genuine. I would honestly give 3.5 bc of the lack of information that was given but I'll round it to a 4.

Michelle asked for an email of the ideas I had for elephants to her. We made an appointment for the same day.. She said she would have it drawn up for when we came back.When we returned she had created the perfect design! She made exactly what I wanted without me being able to say exactly what I wanted.While getting the tattoo it was a very relaxing atmosphere- Michelle was very personable and made it an enjoyable experience. She is extremely talented and the tattoo came out perfect.I will definitely be returning to Michelle and Rock City Tattoo for future work.

Anyone who says this place is good, does not know anything about piercings or tattoos. I've had over 21 piercings and have a significant amount of tattoos, so I'm pretty sure I know what to consider a good and bad tattoos shop. This place is absolutely disgusting. I have been to many tattoo shops and this one is by far the worst, I don't know how they are still open. I got a couple crappy tattoos there and I completely regret going there. The artists are not that great. To a regular person it may seem "clean" but it's not. Rock is a creepy old nasty dude who touches everything with the gloves on his hand. I had microdermals done there and had to get them removed because he used some kind of fake metal and my skin started turning weird colors. I went to Starlight to get them removed and Dom was so shocked. Rock IS NOT CERTIFIED as a piercer. He simply goes on youtube and watches how to do it. I heard a story that he went to pierce someone and had the gloves on already but went to the computer, TOUCHING THE MOUSE AND KEYBOARD and looked up how to do the piercing. Disgusting. PLEASE DO NOT GO THERE. If there's a great place you want to go its Powerhouse Tattoo in Montclair. Rock City is a disgrace to tattoos and piercings.

These reviews are taken from Yelp, Facebook, and Google reviews with accompanying dates and the sourceMy personal experience: Went for a piercing, Rock LOCKED the door behind him and insisted I suck on a lollipop 'so I don't pass out'. This is NOT standard operating procedure at ANY reputable piercing place. You would want to eat in ADVANCE of getting a piercing for purposes of keeping blood sugar steady, not during (choking hazard much?). What should have been a 5 minute process turned into an hour because he wouldn't stop hitting on me. He kept touching me in places the piercing didn't constitute touching. He also proceeded to talk about how he enjoys wrestling in a sexual manner, his affinity towards Domination, and flexed in front of the mirror and wanted me to kiss his pecs. Gross.And now, the other reviews: Yelp - 1 year ago - 'Got my nose pierced 12/11. My experience here was problematic on many levels. First off, the owner made multiple sexist and racism comments, and was a little too touchy. He also insulted my entire generation and was super cheesy about being Italian and enforcing negative stereotypes. He gave me a free t shirt which was nice, but he insinuated to my friend and I that we needed bigger sizes than we asked for. I came in for a cartilage piercing and left 45 minutes later because he would not stop talking. Next, he told me that he was a self taught piercer... I almost left but he had already taken everything out (the only good thing I have to say is the needle and earring were new and clean). He did not go slow at all, he literally just jammed it in my ear. Then he told me to use bactine to clean the piercing, which is not a good idea (he didn't give me any aftercare instructions until I asked). He also made fun of me for asking questions. I went to a different place a few days later to get another piercing and they told me he used the wrong type of earring for my piercing. Don't go here!! Go to Jinx proof instead.

The owner pierced my septum & he was a funny guy with lots of stories. (Which kept me calm & distracted). I can't wait to see how my piercing healed & will update when it does. I personally would go back there. I did not feel uncomfortable or creeped out at all, some people just need to learn how to have a sense of humor. (Nope, I did not have my thighs groped as mentioned in other reviews) Had I felt uncomfortable, I DEFINITELY would not let someone stick a needle in my nose. Thank you Rock City!!

Got my nose pierced on 12/11. Was really uncomfortable the whole time because the man doing the piercing kept touching my thighs and questioning my ethnicity. Only put up with it just to get my nose pierced. On top of that, the piercing was done way high up than it should have been. I ended up taking it out last week because I was just too unhappy with my experience and the placement. I don't really recommend coming here for a nose piercing.

GREAT PLACE! I had given a call to Rock, the owner last year stating I was interested in getting my first tattoo. I was extremely nervous and asked a thousand questions over the phone in which Rock answered every single one of them with professionalism and made me feel comfortable. I then went to Rock City a few days later to get an estimate and to show Rock what I was looking to get done. My boyfriend also was going to get a tattoo as well. Rock and his staff were very friendly, knowledgeable, and made the process that much easier on me! The place was extremely clean and you could tell they really knew their stuff! I then scheduled my appointment and went back a week later with my boyfriend! I was shaking like a leaf but Rock sat next to be in the mini reception area and told me it will be fine. Peter had done my tattoo and he said I took it like a champ! I will be going back very soon for my second tattoo! Thank you Rock City...you ROCK!

A friend recommended the shop to me after getting her nipples pierced there. I'm extremely picky about where I get piercings. Not going to lie, I was really hesitant to go after reading all of the negative reviews, but I figured I could go and at least just get a feel for the place. I wanted to get just a regular nose piercing and I was greeted by the owner, Rock. I very quickly got to filling out paperwork and the owner was extremely friendly, funny and immediately wants to get to know you. Within 5 minutes he took me into the back room to set up and we must've sat and talked for about 20 minutes before even discussing the piercing much. Extremely friendly, just wants to make you feel comfortable. He offered me a lollipop while we talked and we talked about all sorts of stuff. Then he marked the spot on my nose, asked if it was okay, and in like less than a minute i had a needle through my nose. Didn't even hurt really. The jewelry switch out wasn't bad either. He had me talking the whole time so it was a really pleasant experience. He cleaned me up, we talked a bit more. Took our picture and I was on my merry way! The nose piercing with jewelry was only $40. I bought the saline spray too and he gave me a t-shirt for free! Believe me, the guy definitely just says what he wants but he knows what hes doing. Would definitely recommend for the average piercing.

I went to see if they could come up with a drawing to cover up a tattoo. I was not told that the deposit for $50 was non refundable which I wouldn't mind if it wasn't if they even tried attempting to send me a draw up of what they can cover up my tattoo with. I left the deposit 3 weeks ago, the emails I sent after the first one were responded to a day or 2 later, I did not get my first email for a few days. The first drawing I did not like (which is fine if they tried to do more to my liking but they didn't). I sent them a picture of a tattoo that I wanted and they said ok and asked me my availability. I told them and they told me an appointment with the artist wouldn't be available until a Tuesday in the afternoon. I said ok but never got a confirmation e-mail (also take note that the tattoo that they we agreed upon was the one I picked out, not the 1 tattoo that they drew up). Now I am not trying to be a dick, but after seeing the first drawing and the way they were responding to my e-mails, I got the vibe that I wasn't a priority and if I am paying $150 an hour, at least make an effort. Every person wants to go to a tattoo parlor and feel like the artist wants to do a great piece on them, not feel like it's just another tattoo. I get it if they are busy but still, I am out $50 for a half ass attempt. Well if that's how they work than that's better than paying them hundreds for a half ass tattoo. Also in response to the comment below, don't lie. I have the emails to show how reluctant you guys were in responding. I don't leave reviews for fun, tattoos are serious and it's also someone's hard earned money. You do not have anything saying the deposits are non refundable and that's not even the point . Now you're lying when I can show you that your emails you sent me were sent days apart. They were all successful in going through and I got all of your emails. When I did try to set up an appointment I got no confirmation. Not even a phone call. It's cool because the other 1 star reviews this place has speaks for itself. I own my own business and I don't care if someone spends $1 or $1000 they get treated like gold. Not so much with your place

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! This is my 3rd time visiting Rock City Tattoo and every time I go there it just keeps getting better and better. You can't beat the artists' work and the owner, Rock himself, is always there and wants to make sure the customer is taking care of. I just had my 2nd piercing done and Rock really made me feel comfortable. The place is very clean and he really took the time to calm my nerves. He's a real pro and I can't wait to come back for the tattoo I've been talking to them about. They are the best at what they do - go there and find out for yourself!

What a great day it was when I decided to go to Rock City Tattoo with my friends. I had no intentions of getting a tattoo or a piercing, but, I ended up with both. I was so impressed with the artists there and their work, that I could not resist. I had a tattoo in mind, but wasn't sure of where I wanted to put it, or on the colors. They assisted my in both. They seemed t know exactly what I wanted. I went ahead with their ideas and I have gotten soooo many compliments on it. I also got a piercing while I was there too. The owner, Rock, was so nice and the staff was so friendly. They went out of their way to make sure you got exactly what you want. Stop by and see what I mean. They're the best!

Horrible place and I would not recommend to anyone. I received a tattoo in Dec 2015 and also requested a cover up. Once my tattoo was finished I was informed for my cover up I would need to provide a 60.00 deposit. I was given the card with the artist Peter's name and the deposit paid as well. Sadly the artist mother passed and he was not there for my appointment. I also then had health issues as well. I took the card in and explained the issue. The artist advised the owner i...t was his handwriting. The owner stated " I don't know who you are. It looks like she wrote it in". I was absolutely disgusted. I was given my money back but was treated as if I was a criminal. No one should have to go through that when they are giving a business their money. I will take my money and go to a tattoo parlor who has enough sense to know that life happens..don't take a deposit from a customer. Let them pay when the work is done. I had the absolute worst experience at this tattoo parlor. I got a tattoo in Dec 2015 and also wanted a cover up. My tattoo artist name was Peter who was very nice ,however, they required a 60.00 deposit on my 2nd tattoo which was a cover up. I was given a card signed by Peter stating the date and 60.00 deposit. Sadly the artist Peter's mother passed away and I also had surgery.I was not able to go back right away to get the tattoo due to the the artist being out of town and my personal health issue. I went in the shop to finish my tattoo and also had the card handy. The artist Peter's advised it was his handwriting but the owner stated "He didn't know me" She probably wrote the amount in. It was absolutely insulting because I was advised I had to put a deposit down. I value good work and would have gone there for my 3rd tattoo. The way I was treated today was horrible and I would never recommend this place to anyone. I should have followed my gut and not put a deposit down. I was given my 60.00 back and will be more than happy to give my money to a tattoo shop who treats customers with respect*****Update****** the owner is now stating to make matters worse I threatened him bodily harm. Really???? If the owner thought I was lying why did you give me my money back??? The most unprofessional place I've ever been. How was I trying to get a free tattoo when you advised the cover up would be 200 for both and the deposit was 60.00. You did nothing to make the situation better. A grown man arguing with a woman over a deposit she did in fact make. YOUR OWN ARTIST SAID IT WAS HIS HANDWRITING!!! I said to your face it was because I'm black. Me and my boyfriend decided to go to this tattoo shop, we waited 10 minutes before we even received a greeting. I really want a tattoo and was in a good mood so I did not let this deter me. After explaining what type of tattoo I wanted the owner rock interrupted me and the tattoo artist and informed me i woukd have to pay upfront. I have over 20 tattoos from over 5 shops on 5 different states and have never been asked to pay upfront(even at the gas station they don't ask this if you are paying with cash). Rock then told me and my boyfriend that if we don't like the rules nobody is forcing us to stay here. I was shocked and totally embarrassed, my boyfriend who who shys away from confrontation kept quiet and because everyone was looking at me I prepaid for my tattoo even though it was a hour wait. The owner, who is the nastiest person I ever met then took out a counterfeit decking marking and checked each bill, he commented to his employee that he was shocked it was real. At that point I had enough I got my money back and told him I would not patronize this place, he replied that he didnt need my money and open the front door for us to leave. Anotjer customer was so appalled that she and her friends left and call him a few choice curse words and even apologized to me for what he made me go through. Please don't support this bussines the entire staff is not bad but the owner is a despicable human.*************************************************Update: you are a loser and a very hateful man. Everytime you have a negative review it is a lie or somebody is out to get you, maybe it's just the fact you suck at what you do. So everyone is lying and only you are telling the truth. Lay off the steroids dude.

My first experience with getting a tattoo was an exceptional one. First, let me begin by saying that I wasn't at all sure of what I wanted. My friend took me to Rock City Tattoo and the owner, Rock, was very patient with me, showing me different etchings and asking me a lot of questions about myself to determine what kind I'd like. I knew I didn't want something large or on a part of my body that could be seen by everyone. Getting a tattoo was a very personal matter and I ...didn't want to be rushed. The staff really took their time and didn't pressure me at all. Once I decided what I wanted and where to place it, the rest was easy. It didn't take long at all. The colors popped and I was overwhelmed with the artistry. And, Rock really knows how to make you feel comfortable - just like family. He is truly one of a kind. I first met Rock, the owner of Rock City Tattoo, many years ago at a charitable event. He donates a lot of his time and energy into worthwhile causes and puts his heart and soul into them. My first impression of Rock is that he is an upstanding citizen with a heart of gold. Whatever he does, he does with honor. His establishment carries on the same traits. He treats each customer with the utmost respect, courtesy and friendliness. He takes such pride in the work he does and makes sure each customer is treated individually, respecting each of their own ideas of what they want in a tattoo. A tattoo parlor with that much integrity, talent, and creativity, why would you go anywhere else? Truly a great guy, great staff, and a great shop!

Let me tell you about this Gem of a place Rock City Tattoo. When you walk through the doors you are greeted by a very friendly staff. Atmosphere is clean and relaxing. Experienced and very knowledgeable staff talk with you and make you feel very comfortable. And Rock the owner takes the time with you to help in any way he can in your decision making to make sure it will be perfect and exactly what you want. Can't say enough about Rock City, Rock and his wonderful staff but go experience it for yourself!

I got my nose pierced here a few days ago. The guy that did it made me very uncomfortable. He kept calling me "baby" and touching my thighs. I would've just left if he hadn't already gotten everything...
I got my nose pierced here a few days ago. The guy that did it made me very uncomfortable. He kept calling me "baby" and touching my thighs. I would've just left if he hadn't already gotten everything sterilized and ready. I winced because it hurt(duh, it's a needle piercing my skin) and he said "wow, I can't believe you reacted like that." Just a very rude and unprofessional guy. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. *update* my piercing is almost healed, and it is completely uneven with the one I had previously. I don't know why he measured if he was going to mess it up anyway.

I am giving Rock City one star...the place is nice the girl that did my tatto was friendly, nice and made me comfortable to be there...this was not my first tattoo....my 4th and my 2nd finger tattoo...after about 5 days it starts rubbing off like a fake tattoo! After about 10 days I go to where I had my 1st finger tattoo...the only reason why I didn't go back to the Hoboken tattoo parlor was I don't live near there anymore and parking is awful...I live in Rutherford and this place was a 5min drive from my house...anyway long story short...they will redo it for me...I speak with the owner of Rock City...does not want to give me a refund or at least partial refund...just bad business...now a simple finger tattoo is going to cost me in $200+...all I wanted was a refund so I could get it fixed somewhere else....

So let's start with this. The reason why I gave a 4 instead of lower is because I could really tell the owner knew what he was doing and he was very kind. There were a couple of big things for me that I didn't like.. he pierced my ear without showing me or confirming with me where he was going to do it.. the next piercing I got I made sure he showed me. Next thing I thought that was extremely strange was he did not talk to me at all about aftercare. He only asked me if I wanted to buy the spray but no discussion of when I could take the earring out or what I should be doing. I have a lot of piercings so maybe he didn't think it was necessary to say it but that was a huge red flag for me. Overall the experience was pleasant, because like I said, the owner was extremely nice and genuine. I would honestly give 3.5 bc of the lack of information that was given but I'll round it to a 4.

I had an awesome experience At Rock City Tattoo.My mom and I wanted mother daughter tattoos-- and had an idea what we wanted for a design.Earlier in the day we went in, explained we wanted an elephant with "like mother, and like daughter on it." Michelle asked for an email of the ideas I had for elephants to her. We made an appointment for the same day.. She said she would have it drawn up for when we came back.When we returned she had created the perfect design! She made exactly what I wanted without me being able to say exactly what I wanted.While getting the tattoo it was a very relaxing atmosphere- Michelle was very personable and made it an enjoyable experience. She is extremely talented and the tattoo came out perfect.I will definitely be returning to Michelle and Rock City Tattoo for future work.

Anyone who says this place is good, does not know anything about piercings or tattoos. I've had over 21 piercings and have a significant amount of tattoos, so I'm pretty sure I know what to consider a good and bad tattoos shop. This place is absolutely disgusting. I have been to many tattoo shops and this one is by far the worst, I don't know how they are still open. I got a couple crappy tattoos there and I completely regret going there. The artists are not that great. To a regular person it may seem "clean" but it's not. Rock is a creepy old nasty dude who touches everything with the gloves on his hand. I had microdermals done there and had to get them removed because he used some kind of fake metal and my skin started turning weird colors. I went to Starlight to get them removed and Dom was so shocked. Rock IS NOT CERTIFIED as a piercer. He simply goes on youtube and watches how to do it. I heard a story that he went to pierce someone and had the gloves on already but went to the computer, TOUCHING THE MOUSE AND KEYBOARD and looked up how to do the piercing. Disgusting. PLEASE DO NOT GO THERE. If there's a great place you want to go its Powerhouse Tattoo in Montclair. Rock City is a disgrace to tattoos and piercings.
