I've gotten 2 tattoos from Masterpiece dating back 23 years. I'm currently getting a third....a half sleeve that incorporates the tattoo that is on my left bicep. Their prices are competitive. Go during the week to avoid long waits. I would definitely recommend making a reservation. I don't think they are as busy as they use to be since tattooing is now legal in Massachusetts. I have gotten most of my tattoo work done here, and I have gotten all of my piercings here for 5 years now, and I’ve never had a bad experience. Chad has done two of my tattoos and they are honestly very well done & were exactly how I wanted them. I got a small piece done by Randy today and it also went very well! Very personable and my tattoo came out crisp and clean. The studio is clean and I’ve witnessed how diligent they are with cleaning between clients. The woman at the desk is always very helpful to me and my mother, and the cute dog is a bonus as well. As long as you’re educated on what you want and expect to pay slightly more for better quality, you won’t have a problem here. If you want a cheap tattoo, expect to get what you pay for at other tattoo shops. Read Less

“I have never been so insulted in my life.” These are the words I spoke to my boyfriend, in between tears, after leaving Masterpiece Tattoo. I went in to get a repair consultation done regarding work I had gotten years ago from another artist that was, honestly, less than professional. I stated that to the first person that greeted us and after taking a brief look at my work, he excused himself to speak to someone in the back. He described my tattoo (A very simple heart with a paw print, commemorating the loss of a beloved childhood dog). An older gentleman then came out and, without saying a word, grabbed my arm to look at the tattoo. He spent the next few minutes berating the quality which I was clearly aware of as I was there trying to fix it. He continued to give us an attitude as he asked what we were looking for but then acting as if we were idiots to make suggestions. I said again “I am not a professional so that’s why I’m here to get some advice.” I couldn’t wait for him to let go of my arm just so we could leave. He finally blurted out a price and we politely said we would have to think about it and left. I was simply looking for some assistance to make something that means a lot to me a little more special. I expected to deal with a professional but unfortunately it seems as if I will have to look elsewhere. **edit Not only was I disrespected once, in person at this establishment, but yet again with a response on my review. The response is an all out lie suggesting that I was upset about price. No where in my review did it suggest I had an issue with price nor did I say that in person. I am furious as you continue to belittle me and repeatedly refer to my tattoo as “done in someone’s basement, done in someone’s kitchen.” You don’t know that because I never told you. And it is not even true. How dare you? I came to you for help and you have successfully proven to have the worst customer service I could even imagine. No one deserves to be treated this way. I've been here several times for piercings, a tattoo and my daughter got a piercing here as well. I've had nothing but wonderful experiences every time. Sue at the front desk is friendly, helpful and super knowledgeable about tats and piercings. She knows her her stuff and I have no hesitation taking her advice. Dan does both tattoos and piercings and I love his quiet calm confidence and professionalism . I read in other comments that he was rude and didn't talk while tattooing. I personally am a graphite pencil artist and I can't hold a conversation when I draw because I need to focus . Folks--the man is pushing ink under your skin with a very sharp and fast moving needle. If his style is to be quiet while creating a tattoo, please honor that. If you want conversation, bring a friend. I've found that talking to Dan after he finishes his work to have a great sense of humor and is super smart. The new piercer, Dana Dunn, is fantastic and fun and has cool things in his room. He's friendly and also very professional and is very careful about placement and safety of piercings. The shop itself is tidy and full of ideas for tattoos. The front cases have great quality and well chosen body piercing jewelry. While some pieces are more expensive such as the gold, I am of the opinion that you get what you pay for. If you want cheap jewelry, you take the chance of infection or allergic reactions. If you want to make the investment of your new piercing to enhance your individual look and personality, invest in good quality jewelry. I will not hesitate to go back here for any tattoo or piercing and prefer my daughter and friends go here rather than anywhere else. Read Less

I just had my 8th, 9th AND 10th (yes, I am the crazy person who got three in one sitting) tattoos done here. Dan has done 5 of my pieces and I have always been incredibly happy with his work. There was only one time a year ago that he was unable to keep my scheduled appointment to complete a large tattoo due to an unusually high volume of piercings (which he also covers). Although that day I did leave frustrated, his work was excellent and, in the end, I would rather have a... tattoo that I adore even if it means waiting longer then I had wanted. My session yesterday, Dan reserved an entire Sunday for me as I had 3 pieces done. His work is beautiful and I left completely thrilled. His fee is well worth it and he has always made me feel comfortable and at ease. Chad did a beautiful memorial piece for me and his work is exception as well. He was able to take an idea and translate it into a beautiful piece that honored my lost family member. I would happily work with him again. Of the other artists who have done pieces for me (Nate, Craig and Tom) only one (Tom) was difficult and tempermental. However, the quality of his work was excellent. And, again, I would rather be happy with permanent artwork and forgive a temporary discrepancy. However, he is no longer there. I have gotten both of my tattoos done here by two different artists and have had beyond great experiences. My first tattoo, which was a quote, was done by Jason about a year ago and it is flawless! I am still absolutely in love with it! I just had my second tattoo done about a week ago by Craig. When I first went in, I was having trouble deciding on the size of the diamond tattoo that I would be getting. Craig must have done 4 different sized stencils for me and was so patient! The size of my tattoo is a little bigger than a quarter and the line work is amazing! I am so pleased with my tattoos and recommend anyone to go to masterpiece! Read Less

Just got my 8th tattoo today, my 3rd at Masterpiece - I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. Today, Craig was phenomenal! Not only is his artistic ability second to none, but he was extremely personable and determined to ensure I was completely satisfied with every intricate detail throughout the entire session. If that wasn't enough, what truly impressed me was his level of integrity - after providing me with the price for his service, I naturally added ~30% to that as a tip. Craig refused such an amount! He said 10% was more than enough. I was, and still am, in absolute shock. It is clear he is a man who takes pride in his art and not simply one who can draw well, trying to make an extra buck. I would not even consider going anywhere else but Masterpiece and after tonight, I'm not sure I would want any other artist to work on me other than Craig. Read Less
