I went in there super excited to set up an appointment for a cover up. I hate to give a terrible review. There are very talented artists here so my review is not aimed at everyone. I don't know the gentleman's name that I talked, but he was not friendly at all. I came in and greeted him, and not knowing I stood in front of the TV. He makes a hand gesture telling me to move out of the way. He looked like he couldn't be bothered with what I had to say. Then I asked if he had any suggestions for cover up ideas. He says " Here is a suggestion you need to have an idea of what you want" Well I asked for a suggestion because I know cover ups are limited to certain ideas. I went here for a daith piercing, so Josh did it. He accommodated my medical issues (I have a fainting disorder). The place was clean, Josh walked me through each step of the piercing, and it was very affordable. I walked in and was out within 15 minutes. I called ahead a few days before i wanted to get a helix piercing and they said i could just walk in and id be all set. The day comes when i want to go and get it done, and the lights are dimmed in the store and the door is locked, but someone was sitting inside. I went online to check the hours and it said it was open until 8pm that night; it was 6:30 when i got there. I then called and asked what time they were open until that night and whoever picked up rudely hung up on me. I just got two piercings done by Josh, and all I have to say is WOW. He is the most amazing piercing artist I have ever met. I had my belly button and nose done at a different facility so I have two other people for comparison. Not only was he super funny, which helped with the nerves, he was also very kind and thorough about what he was about to do. Facility is nice and clean. Don't waste your money going anywhere else. I absolutely love this place, and honestly don't know what I'm going to do for my piercings when I leave to go back to Washington. I've gotten my septum and bellybutton done here; Josh is the best piercer I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. He's personable, professional, and super funny! He always makes sure you're happy with where he marks your piercing before he sticks the needle through, and jokes around to help you calm down if you're nervous. East Coast is an amazing tattoo & piercing place that I am going to recommend to everybody I can. I personally got a tattoo a couple days ago, and it was done so beautifully, it's honestly perfect, it came out better than I could have ever imagined. It was done by Vic, and he was very personable and funny and easy to talk with, as well as an incredible artist. Everybody else in the place was also very friendly! Everything from the floors to the equipment was incredibly clean and well maintained. The best in the business. I've had tattoos by both artists and multiple piercings by Josh and everything has always been incredible. Cleaner than most doctors offices and conveniently located on Broadway in Salem. My first experience was in 2013 when I wanted to get a navel piercing. While I was there I looked through Row's book of work and decided on the spot I wanted him to do my cover up. I made an appointment for that week and we started! It came out fantastic. Since then I've come in multiple times and most of my right arm is done by Row. I also have one on my bicep from East which I love. I get compliments on my tattoos constantly! I've referred all my friends here for both tattoos and piercings. Josh is a fantastic piercer, especially for someone that might be nervous, he has a very calming yet funny demeanor. $30 will get you any piercing and tattoos are extremely reasonably priced. Shops closed on Mondays but open the rest of the week. As long as I live in New England, I'll never go anywhere else! Read Less

I went in over the summer to get my bottom navel pierced. Josh was fantastic and did the piercing quickly, sterile, etc. however, my piercing got extremely infected and I had to take it out. I went in to ask if someone could take a look at it and they all refused, and said that a pricing done that horribly did not come from East Coast. I then pulled up a picture of me getting it done by Josh and when I showed them that picture I was asked to leave. I am so disgusted by how I was treated. Amazing shop. It took me forever waiting for the right shop to give me my first tattoo, and the second I stepped into East Coast; I knew this was the place. The atmosphere was both home-like and professional. All the employees are welcoming, and on top of that, their work is phenomenal. Got my bellybutton pierced here. These guys know what they are doing. No wait on a Saturday, place is super clean, all instruments sterilized. My piercer marked me and had me double check it before giving me my piercing, which was over in a blink of an eye and barely hurt. So far it is healing beautifully with no signs of infection. 30$ including jewelry, you can't beat the price. This place is awesome if you're looking for a piercing. Read Less

I have gotten a tattoo done by East here. He was an awesome artist who drew exactly what I wanted! The pricing was fair less than expected. I'm also looking into a second piece done by East. I've also gotten 5 piercings by Josh. He's amazing. He has a great personality that can ease any fears one might have before getting a giant needle stuck through their body. I've talked a few times with Row, who's a tattoo artist as well. I love looking at pictures of the tattoos he's done, especially the portraits. They're incredible. Went in about a month or 2 ago for small tats. They were getting ready to close up but East was nice enough to squeeze me in. Since then my finger tat has faded so I need a redo and have a cover up I want to do. I've tried showing up on 3 different occasions and the shop is always closed. Ive emailed and DM'd on Instagram a few times...no answer although you can clearly see the messages have been read. Not gonna lie, the shop was super clean, staff was friendly and they are amazing artists but it seems they really don't care whether they get customers in or not. Disappointed. Read Less

Awsome Place! Very clean and welcoming! Staff are very friendly and attentive. Row and Josh are the owners and their work is top notch. I went here to get my nose pierced. Josh was fantastic. He was hilarious, so it definitely helped calm my nerves. I dont know her name, but his apprentice (im assuming) was marvelous as well. Everything was very clean, he opened everything brand new in front of me. Great atmosphere. I will definitely come back here if I want another piercing. Went in 5 mins before they closed unknowingly and they were still nice enough to let me get a piercing. You get 1 free piercing every 5, which is really tempting. The piercing was quick and easy. I got the rook. They open up a new needle in front of you and sterilize the piercing area, so you know everything is clean and up to standards. I would give East Coast 0 STARS if possible.  I made an appointment about 3 weeks in advance and when I showed up on the day of my appointment excited about finally getting my new tattoo, the owner/tattoo artist, Row, was not at the shop and had not planned on coming in. According to the piercing guy whonwas at the studio, Row called him and said he was not coming in. I was told that it was because of "car issues", but I'm sure it was because it was the first warm, beautiful day of the year. It wouldn't have been a total problem if the dude would have called and let me know that he wouldn't be there, but instead, I took the sucker ride in.  Luckily, I only live about 15-20 minutes away.  I would say that Row is an extremely unprofessional business owner and I would not recommend East Coast Tattoo to anyone.
