I literally cannot sing enough praise for Reece. He is the only person I will go to for any work I want done! He started my sleeve design and not only was the design absolutely stunning (and exactly what I wanted) but I got nonstop compliments on how gorgeous his line work was! I upgraded an old tattoo recently and just yesterday got a new one that is so extremely important to me - in remembrance of our baby girl. I guess this is what happens when they go too deep? I said thin thin thin. Came out nice and thin and after 3 days bleed together to look like a bold sharpie no one can tell what it is. He went over it again and I should have known that wasn't a good sign. Also should have looked closer at the penmanship, the M sucks. My fault. My advice don't do walk-in no matter how simple you may think the tattoo may be. Getting it removed. Read Less

I have had work done by Jason as has my veteran husband. He does fantastic work. I told him a rough idea for what I wanted and took the time to dig into the idea and create an incredible piece. I get compliments on it all the time. Unlike many tattoo artists he was able to work with my schedule and offered to come in earlier in the day to better suit me. I got my last tattoo done here about a year and a half ago, and I couldn't be happier! I had tried my local shop in Rochester on multiple occasions and the guy kept giving me the run around so I decided to branch out and try a new shop. I walked in and was immediately greeted by two very handsome men at the front desk, one being Luke, who ended up doing the tattoo. They were friendly, professional and just all around amazing.  I was afraid I would have to make an appointment and come back, but they fit me right in and we were done within an hour.  This shop is THE cleanest tattoo shop I have ever been in, and being that this was my 18th tattoo, I've seen a lot of shops.  I can't wait for my next tattoo and my next experience with Iron Works Tattoo! I see that there are a couple of negative reviews here, and I can only assume that those people are either incredibly hard to impress, or they have some kind of beef with this business or the people who work there on a personal level. I got my most recent tattoo at Iron Works, and I have nothing but good things to say about the business as a whole, and about Jon Sanford's work. He was friendly, professional and made me feel very much at ease, which is not at all something I could have said for the artist who did my first tattoo many years ago. Let me start by saying that I got my first tattoo here when I was 18, and I'm definitely going back to get more work soon.I walked into the shop, and spoke with Jon Sanford (and another guy who was there- sadly, I didn't catch his name). I looked through the pictures of his work, and I was really impressed with it. He's a talented artist, who seems to pay great attention to detail, which is wonderful. I've spoken with a lot of friends who have gone to different shops for their tattoos, and many of them had stated that they felt judged by the artist about what they wanted, or that the artist seemed to rush through their piece. I'm happy to say that neither of these things are true of my experience at this shop. I showed Jon a picture similar to what I wanted, and he told me he'd draw up something for me. He was able to schedule me for the very next day, and when I went in, I was so pleased when I saw what he had come up with. It was totally my style, exactly what I wanted. He made sure I was really happy with it, which was also really nice- I didn't feel like he wanted to hurry up and jab me, then send me on my way. He gave me some advice on placement, and carefully applied the transfer. Then he had me check it out in the mirror from all angles before we started.While tattooing me, he was very charming and personable - not awkward or stand offish as some people are (or so i've heard), but not creepy either. He really took his time and, like I said, payed close attention to detail and shading; checking with me all along the way. When we were both pleased with it, I got up and checked it out. I was completely in love with it and thanked him excessively. My friend also got a tattoo that came out gorgeous, she was very pleased.The shop itself is very clean, and everyone there was so nice- but in a genuine way. They were patient with me and my first tattoo jitters, which was really cool. I receive a lot of compliments on my tattoo, and I've been told (multiple times, by multiple people) that it looks very natural, and very "me".I called back recently to set up another appointment, and the guy who answered the phone was friendly and polite. I put down a deposit, and Jon got back to me the next day as soon as he got into the shop.Overall, the artists here are really professional. Their work is absolutely beautiful, and you can tell that they really respect what they do. But they also respect their customers- which is amazing. They just seem like really down to earth, cool dudes. The shop itself has a really positive vibe/atmosphere to it, because of the people who work there. Great place to make your go-to tattoo shop.I have only had work done there by Jeremiah, but all the guys there seem to be very legit artists. I have had a few experiences with them and they have all been good.They are easy to communicate with, they are clean and meticulous, they are professional, one of the most important things for me is that they LISTEN to what I would like done, and most importantly is that they are really good at what they do. I have taken my dad there and my brothers there and I would not do that if I didn't have complete faith in them. They work hard and do a great job and the shop is nice, so I appreciate that they are also reasonable in their pricing. I would not go anywhere else, and before I had found them I did go someone else in the Portsmouth area and I was not at all happy with the experience or the work; a major disappointment. Since I no longer live in NYC, I needed a new tattoo guy to start my second sleeve. Jay Loui, owner, has been my pick for this task. So far he's outlined everything, and shaded/colored most of the top half. Soon enough I need to make more appointments to work on the rest of my arm. I am very happy with all the work he's done.
