I have been going to hobos for 6 plus years they are clean friendly and the artists are good at what they do. I see billy every time i have been there and if I could rate him more than 5 stars I would!  not only is he a great artist but he makes your experience when you are there by making sure you are comfortable and he's got a lot of really great stories as well! I have been to a few other shops and tattoo artist in between my visits at hobos but none can come close to being at this shop! Read Less

They did two feathers on my back. It's raised and bleed into a big mess. People think I have two ballie slippers on my back. It's pretty bad when people can't even tell what it is. I have 7 tattoos on my body. All of them have been at Hobo's Tattoo. My wife and I have been going there as regular customers for 7 years. We absolutely love it there. Unbelievably bad at piercings. My daughter had her ear cartilage pierced. I'm not sure of the correct terminology for that. It wasn't healing proplerly. We kept going back and being told to do different soaks, tea tree oil etc... Finally went to another piercing place. They had to take it out and redo it. The earring was too small and didn't give any room to swell, it was incorrect placement, so if it ever did heal (which is doubtful) it would have gotten pulled out anyway. The people at the new place we went to had fixed several piercings that had been botched at Hobo. Read Less

Today I got my daith pierced on both sides the woman doing it Did an amazing job. She had me till out the paperwork and while I did she was getting set up this was a huge help there was no waiting so not a whole lot of time to get nervous. My friend and I came in during the snowstorm yesterday. Called and they had decided to close early but fit us in. My 4th tattoo, my friends 1st. I had my first tattoo here back in 2003 and was happy to go back and recommended my friend. 10/10 would recommend! The tattoo itself came out perfect and didn't take very long. The only reason I gave them a 4/5 is because I was originally told I couldn't make an appointment, but was told when I had to come back later and there still wasn't an opening that I had to put $20 down if I wanted to secure my spot. My wife and I scheduled an appointment with Andrew.  I knew exactly what I wanted and my wife was all over the board, back and forth on style, size, etc. for a relatively simple tattoo.  It was her first and she was nervous.  Anyway, Andrew was extremely patient with her and he was able to get her exactly what she wanted.  On mine, he did a fantastic job, I couldn't ask for anything more.  Great job, would recommend Hobo's and Andrew to anyone.  Great experience. I got my very first tattoo at the age of 33 from Spencer Scott yesterday! I walked in and told the employees what I wanted and they were very accommodating and kind. Spencer made me feel comfortable and talked me through the whole process which I was very nervous about. My friend was allowed to be with me when I was getting my tattoo for moral support! I am absolutely pleased with my new tattoo! The process was more doable than I thought it would be and I'm so happy with the result! The facilities are well maintained and very clean. It was a very good experience! I'm not from Portsmouth and was traveling for work, but I would gladly travel another 500 miles to receive such great service for a tattoo. Andrew did a fantastic job on my tattoo. It is a cover up piece and the old tattoo is covered perfectly and also perfectly incorpoerated into the new one. It was a little pricey but also super beautiful and I get a lot of comments. I highly recomend Andrew. He is a truly great artist. Read Less

I've visited Hobo's twice. The first time was in fall 2010. I had an awesome experience and the tattoo was outstanding. Because of this, I chose to return for a second tattoo yesterday. I called about a week ago and spoke to Bill. I explained what I wanted, a white tattoo on my wrist. He said it wouldn't be a problem and I could just come in, no appointment needed.When I arrived, Jeb was the only artist there. When I explained what I wanted, he said he doesn't do white tattoos. His logic was reasonable, so I said fine. Then we discussed the design I wanted. He had issues with all of it. He didn't like the size, placement, design. As a professional, I respect his opinion and did take some of his advice. However, his attitude absolutely sucked and he came off as angry and judgmental. Perhaps he didn't want the business and was hoping I would just leave, that is certainly how it seemed. He completely ruined the experience and seemed to forget I was a paying (and tipping) customer.Overall, the place is very clean and my tattoo is exactly what I wanted. I had the absolute pleasure of being tattooed here by Rachel Schilling during one of her guest spots. My girlfriend and I drove up from Maryland to get tattooed here, and it was well worth it. The girlfriend I came with got tattooed by Billy, who like Rachel, did a fabulous job. We both left with phenomenally good tattoos and had a stellar experience. Jonah did my septum piercing today. It was quick, only slightly painful, and easy to completely hide, which was important to me due to my job! Jonah was communictive via email, and answered my many questions. He was informative when choosing which jewelry to use, and offered any help or assistance I may need in the future with changing the jewelry. I specifically came here for Jonah, as I did a lot of reseach, and found many reviews on him since he started at Hobo's less than a year ago! Jason has been my go-to tattoo artist for the last 5 years or so. Every time I come up with an idea to add to my sleeve, what he draws for me is way better than what I could have ever dreamed of. I haul my cookies from NYC to get work done by Jason. There was one time I drove up from CT, got tattooed for 3 hours, and drove back in the same day. Everyone else on the Hobo's crew are all funny and welcoming. Most will come check out what Jason's working on for me and add their insight. (Sorry I don't remember his name; was a younger guy with quite a little attitude or lets just say maybe it wasn't his good side of the bed day)It is the worst thing you could do as a tattoo artist is to not listen and forget things we ask for.It was OK clean.Our experience was not the best and it really could have been an awesome memory, instead it makes me mad to think about it.Best thing you could take from my experience there is this, do I hate my tattoo, no not necessarily. Ignore the first poster....the review is for Portsmouth Piercing, not Hobo's. There will always be people that have not so great experience at excellent places.First off, the tattoo shop is actually known as Hobo's (to the locals) and the 3 guys I have gotten work done from there are AMAZING!James (no longer there...back to CA I think) did my first two, George did my 3rd and Al my 5th. I get complimented EVERYWHERE I go on the quality by other tattoo artists or people who are just impressed with the work. They don't require appointments unless you are getting large and/or custom work. Although, due to high demand, Jason usually requires appointments.Hobo's is by far the best place in the Seacoast to go! Read Less
