Had my first tattoo done by Jason. Can honestly say I am so happy with it! He did an excellent job and it didn't even hurt as bad as I thought. He has a steady hand and very good skills! They even offer touch ups for free and told me if I want to come back in three weeks to strengthen the ink on my tattoo so it looks better long term wise! I have seen amazing work from all 4 artists (Jil, Dugan, Tommy, and Josh), but have only had the pleasure of being tattooed by Jil. I love her personality and being tattooed by her is an experience I will always cherish along with her friendship. She is an honest, truthful and upfront person. If one of the other tattooers will do a better job she does not hesitate to tell you so. After seeing the amazing work she did on me I was glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife. I went here to look into having an old tattoo touched up. I talked with the tattoo artist Josh Locke. He was really nice and not creepy, which was important to since the tattoo was on my lower back. I ended up scheduling an appointment for later in the week and left the 60$ deposit. I pretty much told him to do whatever he thought was best for the tattoo, which was old and given to me by a friend. The tattoo turned out better than I even expected. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. The colors, beautifully straight lines, and detail that it now has is incredible. I will definitely be back and would highly recommend. Read Less

I really wish I could review on the actual work of pirate tattoo, but needless to say when I walked in one day this past summer (2013) I was treated horribly. I understand as an artist (I am one myself) that a person asking for a "quote" may seem to be a waste of time, but some people like to know about how much they are going to need to spend on what they want. I tried talking to a guy, and when he heard my idea I guess it wasn't cool enough because he pushed me off to someone else. Then that guy would not work with me at all to try and figure pricing. Seemed totally not interested and looked at his phone numerous times. Needless to say, I felt like my tattoo idea wasn't "interesting" enough. I really wanted to like this shop, but being friendly and good vibes are a must in my book and have been with all my tattoo work. Read Less

I wish there were more stars.  We went in on a "whim" and wanting to get a tat done (15 min before closing) and Jason who was very friendly still gave us the time of day even though they were close to closing.  He said we could come back tomorrow. So we did (in between a poker tournament, Which I won I might add) so Jason did my spouses tat, He did a wooden cross over an old tattoo that she had.  What a great job.  So then there came me. I saw Tom. I was a little shocked at how much tattoos were now days but man I would do it all over again. WHAT AN EXCELLENT JOB HE DID.  I was a total puss and he didn't let that bother him one bit. Didn't try to get the tattoo over and done with so he wouldn't have to keep listening to my whining.  I have 8 tats and none look this good.  We went to 5 other shops and NONE OF THEM gave us the time or even seemed like they wanted to do the work.  If you are in Reno and want an EXCELLENT tattoo. I had a tattoo done here years ago by the owner.  I was impressed with the work but for some dumb ass reason decided to go with a cheaper place which (ev) shall (ol) not (ut) be (io) named (n).  Needless to say you get what you pay for.  I returned here with my girlfriend because she was wanting to get Sally from "A Nightmare Before Christmas."  we scheduled with Thom and showed him the ideas we were thinking of.  He was great about sending email proofs of what he had drawn up.  That way by the time we got there the design was set and it cut out a lot of wasted time.  He did an amazing job of drawing it up and she fell in love with the design.  Well we were in there I was itching to get some ink myself.  I did not schedule an appointment for that day but Josh had a cancellation so I decided what the hell.  I quickly scanned my phone for pictures as I had zero idea what I wanted but having many tattoos I just wanted to feel that good ass pain of getting more.  Being a huge megadeth fan I found a picture of Vic Rattlehead and gave it to him.  He proceeded to draw it up and put it on.  Long story short... These guys are both AMAZING  artists.  They have developed their craft into an amazing art form I will no longer search for lower pricing from half asses tattoo artists.  This shop is old school and they do not beat around the bush.  If your looking to pampered this is not your place.  They are honest hard working people who say shit like it is.  They also do incredible work.  I had many laughs while getting my work done and I could not be happier.  I highly recommend them.  The lady who gave one star had a fluke experience.  Don't let her sway you.  Quality work at a fair price from fair people.  Pictures of our tat are posted as well. In 2006 I had my very first tattoo done at Pirate Tattoo. I had visited other tattoo establishments but found Pirate Tattoo to be very clean, upbeat, and airy. There were about three artists there at the time I visited the establishment. I asked if any of them specialized in Celtic art patterns. They referred me to Christina. I made a appointment with her, and on a Sunday 6.5 hours later and $350.00 less in my pocket, I walked out with a beautiful Celtic cross on my arm. Three days later my beautiful tattoo turned into a very thick scab. To make a long story short. Christina overworked my tattoo, turning the skin into hamburger. Also when talking to the owner, I found that Christina was not even a regular artist that worked at that establishment and had recently quit or was laid off or whatever. The owner stated that the problem with my tattoo was that I was allergic to the ink, and after the tattoo healed he would redo it. He seemed not to be concerned and he was with another tattoo artist at the time who confirmed every single thing the owner would say. Guess he would be the perfect yes man. Kiss Kiss. Before stating my situation with the owner, I had already studied up and talked to many other tattoo artist and a couple of doctors who were familiar with tattoos and skin reactions with the process of tattooing. Everyone stated that the artist overworked the tattoo. I found the owner of Pirate Tattoo, and those that worked there to be less than honest and somewhat unethical. I have since gotten many tattoos from other more respectable establishments. All I can say is buyer beware. I have heard that the owner had sold his business and a new owner now runs the shop. Even though there might be a new owner, and good artists there and a new more respectable way to do business. I will never return to that establishment. Pirate Tattoo, you guys put me through a year of hell, and cost me another $300.00 to have repaired what should never of happened in the first place, but you did teach me to not trust so much! I had done my research. I wanted an artist well known and accomplished at wildlife tattoos as I was having two mockingbirds tattood across my back and shoulders. A 6 hour session later and I came away with birds so realistic you would think you could see them breathing. Almost 2 years later I find myself in Dallas, TX getting another tattoo on the inside of my arm and when the artist asks me about my mockingbird tattoo and I tell him it was done by Apache Jil, he says, ""wow...in Reno? After years of just O.K. tattoos. I went on the internet to find an awesome shop. I came across ""Pirate Tattoo"". Their artwork on the website was very impressive. My husband booked an appointment and his new tattoo is a 15 out of 10. The lines are clean, his shade work is spetacular and color is bright and vibrant. We won't go anywhere else! We actually drive almost 3 hours just to have work done by Josh. Each tattoo artist has their own style with superb work. They are honest and won't tattoo just anything. I have had over 15 tattoos done. Within my 53 years I have had people from 5 different states work on me and have NEVER had a more professional experience at a shop as I did at Pirate Tattoos. I have had over six tatoos done there by two people. Jil is just a wealth of tattoo knowledge and hilarious too. My wife Barb has had a couple of pieces done also. She had a beautiful back piece done that she loves. I can not recommend this shop more. It's perfect for your first tat or to add on to your personal mural!!! I went into Pirate Tattoo because they have done some awesome work on my friends.. I had a pretty complex tattoo I wanted on my leg and so I took in a drawing that I found online to see what they could do.. WOW! Garrett made this design WAY BETTER than the picture. He changed up a few things to make it more of a custom piece, and added a little more color to really make it jump out of the skin.. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SHOP TO EVERYONE!! The guys were nice but the work sucked sorry.. I got two nautical stars on my wrists.. the lines arent even close to being straight.. and they missed a bunch of spots where the color is supposed to be.. It looks like when he was trying to draw the star he had a seizure ! Read Less

I visted Pirates tat shop hoping to get a good inkin' at a friendly enviroment ,with dedicated indviduals who look out for their customers, and make sure the work they do is 100%...such is not the case...I now have a half finished tattoo, that someone was making look fantastic, until that is, they decided to go on ahead and mosie(that's right I said it!) mosie on outta town and decide not to finish his work. I now have a half-ass piece of art on my body that everyone else now wants me to pay and arm and a leg for just to finish it. This is a heed to people who choose to get body ink done, make sure the person that is assisting you is dedicated, willing to offere his services and most important of all....CALLS YOU IF HE""S GOING TO SKIP TOWN!
