I loved everything about my experience here, from the cool decor and clean shop, to the tips for caring for my tattoo after the fact. I first scheduled my appointment about a year before I ended up getting my tattoo because of a new job and other delays on my part. The scheduling person was very accommodating and willing to postpone my schedule time to when it worked for me. All the waiting paid off. I got a tattoo to honor my father who had passed away and had a few ideas about what I wanted. Mel (the owner) added to my ideas and gave me suggestions that helped me come to the perfect design. Being my first tattoo, I was nervous the day of and Mel was super helpful and gave me great tips. I ended up having no problems and we had a great conversation for an hour and a half while she was working. Needless to say, the end result was much better than the sum of my ideas and I'm so happy with my tattoo. Overall, my experience was awesome from start to finish and I would recommend Mel in particular as her art is amazing, not to mention my tattoo. The other artists are very talented as well and I would go back again and recommend to all my friends.

James martin did such a wonderful job. I got an animal portrait of a childhood pet and I’m so grateful for his work. I’ll be returning to have him do my next piece.
He was more than just professional, when I was having a tough time sitting after the 6th hour, he used some lidocaine foam on me. More than once. He didn’t have to do that, but that kindness stuck with me. I’ve been tatted before and just had to suffer but he went the extra mile. He kept me talking so I didn’t have to be stuck in the misery in my own mind.
I will always come back to Black Squirrel so long as he is there. Im a customer for life.

I started my tattoo journey at Big Brain to get a quote. First of all, I came in and was treated as if they were doing me a favor. After being quoted they didn't even offer to help me get what I wanted within my price range. The same day, I came into Black Squirrel. They told me the same price but they also tried to help me find something in my price range. I finally ended up getting my tattoo on April 7th. Kenny did my tattoo and he did amazingly. I'm completely in love and I'll be coming back!

I had a FANTASTIC experience here.I was in town visiting a girlfriend when we decided on a whim to get matching deathstar tattoos (because Galactic empire rules). After reading several reviews we ended up at Black Squirrel. They took our walk-in right away and we worked with James, who was stellar. The staff & the whole experience was great. I got a chance to look at several of the artists portfolios and they are extremely impressive. If I lived in Omaha I would certainly come here for a custom piece.

I was nervous going in for a consult for my first tattoo, not knowing what to expect, what questions to ask, fully prepared to feel like a fish out of water. The staff was so helpful I immediately felt comfortable and welcome. Stacey did an amazing job on my watercolor-style flowers. I brought her a quick sketch and her drawings were even better than I had pictured in my head. I went in as a walk in today and was so impressed with the entire Black Squirrel crew that I worked with. They were courteous and kind and didn't have the attitude that you'll sometimes see at these establishments. They were fantastic about getting my ideas brought to life and making sure my tattoo was just as I wanted it. Mel made the process incredibly easy and has a quick but gentle hand. She definitely makes her clients feel at ease. Prices were great (remember, with tattoos you get what you pay for-so it's worth it to seek out a quality artist) and I was impressed by the vibe and cleanliness of the facility. I will definitely be recommending Black Squirrel to my friends! Thank you for the great experience today and for the beautiful tattoo I got for my girls.

I was greeted by three different people in less than 5 minutes while I waited. You won't be treated like an idiot for not being creative and not having a great understanding of how to put large pieces together. It wasn't like I was walking into a business. It's like I walked in and was just having friendly conversation with some cool people. The shop looks amazing on the inside by the way!! I went in for a walk in, and Kenny was able to help me. He listened to what I was looking for, came back aft...er drawing up the stencils, and he absolutely nailed it!! He came back with his interpretation of what I asked for and couldn't have envisioned it any better. When he started the process after we discussed some other small details for the design, and he started, it was smooth sailing through the whole tattoo process. I've gotten most of my tattoos here by Matt D. and one by Mel. I have had a few large pieces done. I came in a few months before I wanted to get tattooed as I know a talented artist will be booked well over a month at a time. I always make an appointment for a consultation as I like to talk directly with the artist. This is a must or you are going to go through the receptionist and have her take it to the artist. Which is OK because I feel she is very knowledgeable on the subject of tattoos. I usually bring in a portfolio of references that pertain to my idea. Matt is very aware as to what will work and what does not. It doesn't mean he does not want to tattoo you. Remember this is a lifetime commitment. Matt and Mel have put together some unique and beautiful work for me. I am always treated with respect. This is a very upscale shop with private rooms. I've been to a few of the other well known shops and I have to say I only trust Black Squirrel as I know they are honest and stand by their work.

They are reasonably priced as well. Plus, I don't think I have ever been in a tattoo parlor that is so big on cleanliness and let me tell you, it is a breath of fresh air! So thankful for this place. I recommended my sister to this shop because I've only ever heard good things about it and was planning on getting a part of my sleeve done there. She went in today, and her artist acted like he wanted nothing less than to tattoo her. She left without any sort of aftercare instruction, and she felt uncomfortable the whole time. The only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is because of the other great things I've heard.I would NEVER go there after what happened today. There is no reason a tattoo artist should treat you poorly when you are making a decision that will be in your skin for the rest of your life. I have never been so disappointed in my life.

I've been in the process of getting a cover-up chest piece done here by Penny Stahr for about 3 months now, and I've gotta say as someone with a good amount of ink, this is one of if not the best shop I've been to.Now with tattoo shops you expect a certain amount of attitude and a specific personality when you walk through the door, but this really isn't much the case here. The staff is friendly and professional, and the work is fantastic.Please be aware that with tattoos you get what you pay for. Sure you can go somewhere and pay 30 bucks and get a scratcher to put a half-assed butterfly on your hip, and have it fade and heal weird, and possibly still be raised a year later. OR, you can go to a good shop like black squirrel and you'll pay ~120/hour, but the quality of the work is so well worth it. Can't recommend this shop enough.

My character was attacked in front of other customers based purely off misinformation given by front counter staff. I was in the middle of finishing a tattoo & sadly I'm now in search of a new artist. I will not go back there & will not recommend them either. This is coming from a person who has numerous tattoos & takes this artwork very seriously. Very very sad I was treated this poorly. I took this incident very personally.

This is by far my favorite tattoo shop in Omaha. I'm incredibly picky when it comes to somebody putting ink on my skin; so after looking at countless portfolios Matt turned out to be my top choice. He has done three tattoos on my arm so far and I couldn't be happier with the results (hence the reason I go back). I haven't personally had any work done by Mel, but I've seen her impressive work on others. These artists can't seem to disappoint. The shop is very clean and in a great location in the heart of midtown. I recently moved to Chicago, but could easily see myself driving back for more work done!

I loved everything about my experience here, from the cool decor and clean shop, to the tips for caring for my tattoo after the fact. I first scheduled my appointment about a year before I ended up getting my tattoo because of a new job and other delays on my part. The scheduling person was very accommodating and willing to postpone my schedule time to when it worked for me. All the waiting paid off. I got a tattoo to honor my father who had passed away and had a few ideas about what I wanted. Mel (the owner) added to my ideas and gave me suggestions that helped me come to the perfect design. Being my first tattoo, I was nervous the day of and Mel was super helpful and gave me great tips. I ended up having no problems and we had a great conversation for an hour and a half while she was working. Needless to say, the end result was much better than the sum of my ideas and I'm so happy with my tattoo. Overall, my experience was awesome from start to finish and I would recommend Mel in particular as her art is amazing, not to mention my tattoo. The other artists are very talented as well and I would go back again and recommend to all my friends.

I planned some of my tattoos from them and one was during a Halloween event. I will keep coming back again and again.

He was more than just professional, when I was having a tough time sitting after the 6th hour, he used some lidocaine foam on me. More than once. He didn’t have to do that, but that kindness stuck with me. I’ve been tatted before and just had to suffer but he went the extra mile. He kept me talking so I didn’t have to be stuck in the misery in my own mind.
I will always come back to Black Squirrel so long as he is there. Im a customer for life.

I started my tattoo journey at Big Brain to get a quote. First of all, I came in and was treated as if they were doing me a favor. After being quoted they didn't even offer to help me get what I wanted within my price range. The same day, I came into Black Squirrel. They told me the same price but they also tried to help me find something in my price range. I finally ended up getting my tattoo on April 7th. Kenny did my tattoo and he did amazingly. I'm completely in love and I'll be coming back!

I had a FANTASTIC experience here.I was in town visiting a girlfriend when we decided on a whim to get matching deathstar tattoos (because Galactic empire rules). After reading several reviews we ended up at Black Squirrel. They took our walk-in right away and we worked with James, who was stellar. The staff & the whole experience was great. I got a chance to look at several of the artists portfolios and they are extremely impressive. If I lived in Omaha I would certainly come here for a custom piece.

I went in as a walk in today and was so impressed with the entire Black Squirrel crew that I worked with. They were courteous and kind and didn't have the attitude that you'll sometimes see at these establishments. They were fantastic about getting my ideas brought to life and making sure my tattoo was just as I wanted it. Mel made the process incredibly easy and has a quick but gentle hand. She definitely makes her clients feel at ease. Prices were great (remember, with tattoos you get what you pay for-so it's worth it to seek out a quality artist) and I was impressed by the vibe and cleanliness of the facility. I will definitely be recommending Black Squirrel to my friends! Thank you for the great experience today and for the beautiful tattoo I got for my girls.

I was greeted by three different people in less than 5 minutes while I waited. You won't be treated like an idiot for not being creative and not having a great understanding of how to put large pieces together. It wasn't like I was walking into a business. It's like I walked in and was just having friendly conversation with some cool people. The shop looks amazing on the inside by the way!! I went in for a walk in, and Kenny was able to help me. He listened to what I was looking for, came back aft...er drawing up the stencils, and he absolutely nailed it!! He came back with his interpretation of what I asked for and couldn't have envisioned it any better. When he started the process after we discussed some other small details for the design, and he started, it was smooth sailing through the whole tattoo process. I've gotten most of my tattoos here by Matt D. and one by Mel. I have had a few large pieces done. I came in a few months before I wanted to get tattooed as I know a talented artist will be booked well over a month at a time. I always make an appointment for a consultation as I like to talk directly with the artist. This is a must or you are going to go through the receptionist and have her take it to the artist. Which is OK because I feel she is very knowledgeable on the subject of tattoos. I usually bring in a portfolio of references that pertain to my idea. Matt is very aware as to what will work and what does not. It doesn't mean he does not want to tattoo you. Remember this is a lifetime commitment. Matt and Mel have put together some unique and beautiful work for me. I am always treated with respect. This is a very upscale shop with private rooms. I've been to a few of the other well known shops and I have to say I only trust Black Squirrel as I know they are honest and stand by their work.

They are reasonably priced as well. Plus, I don't think I have ever been in a tattoo parlor that is so big on cleanliness and let me tell you, it is a breath of fresh air! So thankful for this place. I will always recommend Black Squirrel to others!

I recommended my sister to this shop because I've only ever heard good things about it and was planning on getting a part of my sleeve done there. She went in today, and her artist acted like he wanted nothing less than to tattoo her. She left without any sort of aftercare instruction, and she felt uncomfortable the whole time. The only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is because of the other great things I've heard.I would NEVER go there after what happened today. There is no reason a tattoo artist should treat you poorly when you are making a decision that will be in your skin for the rest of your life. I have never been so disappointed in my life.

I've been in the process of getting a cover-up chest piece done here by Penny Stahr for about 3 months now, and I've gotta say as someone with a good amount of ink, this is one of if not the best shop I've been to.Now with tattoo shops you expect a certain amount of attitude and a specific personality when you walk through the door, but this really isn't much the case here. The staff is friendly and professional, and the work is fantastic.Please be aware that with tattoos you get what you pay for. Sure you can go somewhere and pay 30 bucks and get a scratcher to put a half-assed butterfly on your hip, and have it fade and heal weird, and possibly still be raised a year later. OR, you can go to a good shop like black squirrel and you'll pay ~120/hour, but the quality of the work is so well worth it. Can't recommend this shop enough.

They got us in and out in less than half an hour. The shop minimum was $50 and I tipped my artist 10 because it was fast, clean, and exactly what I wanted. I would go there again!

Talented artists for sure. But 2nd time in & I was treated very unprofessionally. Front counter staff clearly unorganized. & gave artist incorrect info. My character was attacked in front of other customers based purely off misinformation given by front counter staff. I was in the middle of finishing a tattoo & sadly I'm now in search of a new artist. I will not go back there & will not recommend them either. This is coming from a person who has numerous tattoos & takes this artwork very seriously. Very very sad I was treated this poorly. I took this incident very personally.

This is by far my favorite tattoo shop in Omaha. I'm incredibly picky when it comes to somebody putting ink on my skin; so after looking at countless portfolios Matt turned out to be my top choice. He has done three tattoos on my arm so far and I couldn't be happier with the results (hence the reason I go back). I haven't personally had any work done by Mel, but I've seen her impressive work on others. These artists can't seem to disappoint. The shop is very clean and in a great location in the heart of midtown. I recently moved to Chicago, but could easily see myself driving back for more work done!

For not knowing excatly what I wanted but having a vauge idea, she created a master piece!!! The shop it's self is beautiful, very high end. The rooms are private, clean and beautifully decorated.
