Wonderful shop. I got my nipple piercings here and the entire process was great. Unlike most shops where you're just given a basic bar I was able to choose my jewelry and then match my already existing piercings with the same style. The shop is a great way to pass time and has tons of cute items including a great selection of tarot decks and incense sticks. We spent a lot of time chatting with the person working the shop, I wish we had gotten their name! Very sweet and funny and made the experience much less intimidating. The piercing itself was very easy, she was fast and gentle and it was over very quick. It has been one of my easiest healing experiences to date. I've been going to TRX for 6 years now and I cannot recommend them enough! In total I've gotten 6 piercings, LOTS of jewelry changes, sat in on 3 friends' tattoos and have an upcoming tattoo booked with Dustin. Tom and Ash are awesome and friendly behind the counter. Always professional and willing to deal with my constant questions about the piercing and the tattoo process while I contemplated various modifications. Dustin and all the tattoo artists I've met there have been friendly and professional. I've had multiple medical problems over the years and had to switch out my metal piercings for glass on several occasions for MRIs. Each time I came in for a jewelry change, I was treated like any client coming in for a piercing or tattoo and taken care of with respect. No one made me feel as though I was imposing. They're just good people. I've also been pierced by everyone who works there and they're all the bees knees. Stan, though, is the Man. He's been courteous, professional and just awesome for years and has the best piercing approach of anyone I've ever come across. This review is for the lack of information provided when purchasing jewelry at this establishment. I went into Trx and the lady at the counter was rude might have been having a bad day so when she walked off and stopped helping me I wasn't too torn. Ash jumped right in, great energy and was fairly helpful. I had come in looking for a cartilage earring in gold. I was given the "breakdown" these are gold and are priced separate from the backs etc. Ok fine.... a little odd but hey they are the professionals and I trust that they will do their job. I pick out the earring I like. Ash states he needs to clean it and then Jezzy will do the "install". I take a sit waiting to be called back....at this point I have only seen the earring from the case. I get called...go back to see Jezzy she makes small talk and is very sweet....inserts the earring, gives me a mirror I take a glance perfect. It's the piece I picked out. I leave excited. Get home and notice the back of the earring isn't gold...I was a little disappointed but it was ok. Today I go and purchase a new piece of jewelry for the same hole at a different establishment. Go to remove the jewelry and to my surprise the darn post is silver in tone as well. At this point I feel taken advantage of. The earring was only gold where the eyes can see. I was not told this and didn't know to ask. Hell even the kiosk at the mall have 10-14k gold cartilage earrings that are gold from prong to post and they don't charge extra for the GOLD backs. I called in today to express my disappointment and feeling of being mislead during the purchase and the lady was unbelievably sweet but told me all sales are final. Which is fine....I just hope they are more forthcoming to whoever makes purchases there in the future. Had I known what I was purchasing I wouldn't have purchased it I would've requested a full gold piece of jewelry which I now know after speaking to the young lady today can be ordered. I've been coming here for about a year to work on a sleeve by Dustin (soldermonster).  Dustin, of course, is a terrific artist, and the staff are always friendly.  They are always organised and the place is always extremely clean. Kudos to Tom and Ash at the counter, always make me feel welcome.  They have a good collection of artists here.  Had an additional small piece done by Palos and a friend had a larger piece done by Greg, both were fantastic.  Lots of talent in this place.  I highly recommend making an appointment, they will place you with the right artist for what you want.  They do take walk-ins and you will be matched with whichever artist is available (if they are), but making an appointment is the best idea.   All of the artists have specialties, stop by and look at their work.  My stuff has a strong geometric design and Dustin has done an unbelievable job with this.  Just can't recommend this place enough.  Shout out to piercer Jezzie as well.  Have not has piercing done here, but see her work and it is good.  I have also watcher her work with small kids for ear piercing and she is one of the best I've seen in doing this.  If you want to get your kid's ears pierced, this is the place.  They are usually busy, so again, highly recommend making an appointment. I got a piercing there the other day. The piercing came out looking great but there was a serious breach of piercing etiquette. A piercer should always show you the needle being opened to prove that it is A: a new needle, and B: properly sterilized. This did not happen! I am sure that it was a clean needle but I can't help but feel a bit off about the experience because of it. Read Less

I got my nose pierced by Stan last week. I love it. Everyone that I encountered was very patient and friendly. Answered all my questions and explained what to expect thoroughly. Stan was awesome. I was nervous that getting my nose pierced would be very painful but it was quick and for me it wasn't any worse than getting a shot. Great experience overall. This place looks cool and I'm sure they do great work but I have been here twice now trying to get a simple cartilage piercing taken out which i would imagine would take a whole 2 seconds. The first time I was told that I would have to wait about 25 minutes so I left. Yesterday I returned 10-15 minutes before close thinking that might be dead and I can run in and out but they closed the store early even though their hours were still listed as open. It's just been a waste of gas each time. If you plan to come here I suggest calling to make sure they are open and not busy unless you want to wait & be disappointed. Read Less

I've gotten two tattoos at TRX. I don't remember who I got my first tattoo from but my second artist was Lora. I came to TRX both because I'd heard that TRX was one of the best tattoo parlors in STL and because the artists at TRX seemed to have experience with watercolor tattoos and small tattoos, something I couldn't find at other parlors. The people here are nice, and the space is big. They have a comfortable couch to wait on, and I never felt pressured or nervous while I was taking care of the administrative stuff (payment, booking the appointment, filling out paperwork, etc.).However, my actual experience with getting the tattoos is why I had to give TRX 3 stars. Neither of my artists was empathetic. Both tattoos held a lot of meaning to me, so it was important to me that they be done right. But both artists were fairly dismissive and seemed to find it amusing that I cared as much as I did. My first artist told me point blank "this doesn't mean anything to me, but I guess it means something to you." Obviously I don't expect my artist to have the same emotional investment in the design, but it also doesn't inspire confidence in me to hear my artist tell me she doesn't understand my design. As for my second tattoo here... Lora clearly didn't look at the image I had given her during our consultation until I came in for the actual appointment. She had done a 30 second sketch during our consultation, and she looked like she would have used that instead of a cleaner sketch until I asked her to clean up a few of the details. She also simplified the watercolor detail of the image quite a bit without telling me beforehand that she would be doing so, which was doubly upsetting because I had come to her specifically for the beautiful and intricate watercolor work in her portfolio. Ultimately both tattoos came out okay. Not spectacular, and not the way I had imagined either tattoo, but not unthinkably awful either. But I'll definitely be getting them fixed somewhere else as soon as I'm able. The other thing I want to touch on is that people with dark skin ought to be cautious. I have dark skin, so I was obviously worried about how cool colors would show up on my skin. When I asked Lora about this, she told me "Oh, I never would have thought about that if you hadn't said that." Once again- not particularly inspiring to hear an artist imply they aren't familiar with working on darker skin. TL;DR the artists I had at TRX weren't particularly empathetic (and I've had empathetic artists elsewhere, so I know this isn't just "the norm") and deviated from the templates/designs they had shown me. Be wary if you're looking for delicate, small, or watercolor tattoos. Read Less

I love TRX. My piercer was very helpful and knowledgeable. I am not a quick/good healer and I often develop piercing bumps on my cartilage piercings in my nostril and ears.  My piercer gave me a tip to clear them up and it worked!  I've had this problem for years and his advice cleared them up in a few days. No more issues. It's a bit of a drive for me but it's worth it if you're wanting an adventurous or very "private" piercing. Read Less

I had two wildly different experiences with piercers here. The first time I went to have my tragus ring changed with a tall woman (I was never given her name), who absolutely butchered my ear. Granted my tragus has never really been happy and I knew it would hurt a bit, but I've had it changed before without any problems. She was unable to get the new ring in, and then proceeded to drop it THREE times. The first time I expected her to get a new one instead of doing a half-assed job of wiping it off after being on the ground, and it is my fault for not saying anything right then and there. The next two times, I was in so much pain from her stabbing and yanking at my ear that I just wanted to leave as soon as possible to go take care of my ear. Once I did make it out of there and get home, I found that the ring was not closed properly (not even close) and had to make another trip for that. I then had Stan work on it, and he was great. He was extremely knowledgeable and made an effort to be gentle. I would return to see Stan and Stan only, but the first experience is hard to look past. Despite my piercing looking ok now, I am still a bit paranoid about infection after the ring being on the ground as well as the fact that she never changed her gloves after touching the ground as she looked for it. Again, that part is on me for not speaking up when I saw her actions and I very much regret not doing so. Read Less

We are not tattoo people but when my daughter wanted her ears double-pierced, I decided to stay in the neighborhood and check TRX out instead of driving to the mall. At first I was surprised at the price difference (the mall being much cheaper) but I ended up realizing it was totally worth it for the expertise and attention to detail (a very methodical and sanitary operation). From choosing the right earring to informing us of care and procedure, it was all extremely professional. Went in last Saturday to get my nostril pierced, and I was extremely pleased with the results. Saturdays they do walk-ins (which I was aware of from calling ahead!), and they were very accommodating even when we asked to be pushed back on the waiting list so that we'd have time to get lunch. I decided to get my piercing done by Stan since I read other good reviews by him, and it was a great decision :) I was a little nervous, and as others have said, he's pretty chatty, very professional, and he made me feel very comfortable. He is so knowledgeable and has been doing this for a long time which made me less worried. He asked me some really important questions that I never would have thought of (like if I planned to wear a hoop at any time, because if so, that could affect the placement). Everything was very clean/sterile, and TRX is a member of the Association of Professional Piercers which was all a plus for me. Got a "constellation piercing" with Jezebel today, and I am very happy with my overall experience.Pros- As reported by other reviews, this place is clean and the staff are very friendly.  I haven't frequently a tattoo or piercing establishment in many years, so I didn't know exactly what to expect, but this met all those expectations.If you are interested in something similar, Jezebel does have a portfolio on the TRX website that is what originally drew me to this location.  I appreciated that Jezebel took her time with myself and my friend, who both ended up getting piercings.  I actually changed my mind several times about what I wanted, and Jezebel was very accommodating.  The jewelry selection was great, I am in my mid-thirties and the last time I got any kind of ear piercing it looked pretty industrial and bulky, this is not what I wanted for this go around. They had some very feminine, rose-gold jewelry that fit my style very well.Cons- Incredibly expensive!  I didn't know what to expect going in, I guess I thought it would be, maybe $100-150 for what I wanted.  Multiple that number by 5, and you get a better idea of what I actually paid.  Not even exaggerating. I. Was. Shocked.  The price made me change my mind at first and get less piercings, but then I really liked the couple she did and changed my mind again. I figured I was already there and...the rest is very costly history.  I obviously chose the wrong profession.But, hey, sometimes you get what you pay for!  I was very satisfied with my experience and would recommend it to friends, after I gave them a heads up about the cost. Had such an incredible experience here getting my conch pierced by Jezebel! It's true, TRX is considerably more expensive than most of the other tattoo places in St. Louis, but they have an unparalleled selection of jewelry and their piercers are professional and efficient. The interior is completely clean (which cannot be said for most of the tattoo places in town) and very well maintained. Everyone working here was so friendly. Even the guy manning the front desk was more than patient and eager to talk about my piercing with me and give jewelry/position suggestions. It's been almost a year since I got my conch pierced and it has healed nicely with no complications whatsoever. I love it!Piercings are not like clothes or makeup, they're a fairly permanent part of your body and should not be taken lightly. I've had two piercings done here, one about 4 years ago and another one a month ago. My experience 4 years ago was a 5-star experience. The shop was clean, the piercing process was sanitary and quick, and the piercer was super nice. The industrial piercing that I got one month ago and the conversations with the shop since has turned me off completely to this place. When I arrived for the industrial, the shop still looked the same and the cleanliness was still up to par. However, the piercer was not as friendly and she seemed annoyed that she had a customer. When she was explaining the care procedures to me, she sounded like she'd rather watch paint dry. The piercing experience itself was no different than the last - quick and clean. In the month since I've had this piercing, the top ball has unscrewed itself THREE TIMES and fallen out. After the second time, I emailed my piercer and her response was actually quite welcoming to come into the shop and she would take care of it easily and quickly. She explained what could be wrong and it sounded like it would take no longer than a quick 5 minute visit. I went to the shop on a Tuesday afternoon and I explained my situation and that I'd been emailing the piercer to the worker behind the counter. Her response was that there were 3 individuals in front of me waiting for "actual" piercings, so it would be between 45 minutes and a hour wait. I completely understand that there were 3 other customers in front of me, that's not the frustration here. The frustration arose when I asked if my piercer would be in the next day, they said yes, to which I asked if I could make an appointment so I don't waste another trip, and I was told in the rudest, snottiness tone, "We don't take reservations for piercings." Later that evening, I was cleaning my piercing, and the ball came unscrewed yet again (third time) and the bar even fell out of the hole. I tried like I had before to get it back in, and after five minutes of frustratingly failing, I called the shop. It was 7:05pm. The individual who answered the phone was extremely rude and inconsiderate for what I was dealing with. I again explained that I had been emailing back and forth with my piercer, and he was less than compliant with my situation. "If you want us to fix it, you have to come in when we are open. We close at 8." Luckily, after more fuss with the earring, I got it back in and the ball screwed on. Had I not though, I would have wasted money on a piercing and piece of jewelry because it would have closed up by the next afternoon when I could make it to the shop after work since I was rudely told they don't open until 11am.The entire tone of this situation has come off that this shop no longer cares about their customers and keeping them, rather, they are solely focused on the money. A week later, last evening, we showed up, and the level of professionalism was superb. AVOID AT ALL COSTSWent in to get my ears pierced. Explained that I wanted two on each side, that i wanted them side by side and not one dead center of the lobe and other off some other direction. After they told me the price (which was 4x more than any other shop i had ever asked about it in my life) i couldn't pick my jaw off the floor before my girlfriend paid it. So while i was stunned, we went to the back, and she explained the after care and such. Then proceeded to put them in LITERALLY EXACTLY HOW I SAID I DID NOT WANT THEM PUT IN. When I walked into TRX, they took the time to examine my scar and recommended talking to Francine. She was very up front and listened to what I wanted. Highly recommend getting piercing done by Stan. I had gotten my nose pierced at another shop and had so many problems with it and eventually took it out. After going to TRX with a friend, I asked Stan about my nose and if I could redo it. He thoroughly looked at it and told me what he would do, so in the next week I was in to get my nose redone. I trust Stan with all of my piercings. As for the rest of the shop, they are very knowledgeable on piercings and always want to help. Never have I waited too long or been rude to. Came here to get my rook pierced or my surface tragus piercing but then I decided to go with rook after talking to an employee for several minutes about surface tragus piercings. I will ONLY come here to get my piercing from here on out! Stan is amazing, great personality to help easy the anxiety of getting a piercing. My rook was $75 but Stan reassured me that if anything goes wrong I can alway come back and he'll take care of me for free. Jezzy was my piercer Monday and I cannot sing her praises enough. Not only is she extremely professional and knowledgeable of her craft but her personality can't be beat. She put me very much at ease and had me laughing the whole time even though my nerves were shot. Only two days after and I'm not uncomfortable or in any pain at all....unless bumping the area of course.  I would definitely return to her for more piercings in the future and am even looking at going to one of their artists for my next tattoo. Omg!!!! I had the absolute best experience at TRX getting my piercing! First and foremost let me say that the staff was very professional, and place was super clean (which is really important). Jezebel is great! Before even touching my body, she went over all of the details, asked if I had any questions, and made me laugh a lot to lighten up the mood. Her expertise was nothing I've ever seen before. She told me she needed to check my anatomy in order to know if I was a good candidate or not for the type of piercing I wanted. Most people just jump right in without a care in the world. When it was finally time for me to get my piercing, she was gentle and considerate! She made my experience at TRX easy, fast, and fun!!! I've been thinking about a particular piercing for awhile, like, months. I finally decided to take the plunge and my husband and I came in on a Saturday. The guy at the front was super nice and informative, but there was a wait. However, I knew it would be worth it based on things I've heard about Stan. When we came back a few hours later, it was packed! Stan was awesome. He made an uncomfortable piercing seem comfortable and it was seriously the best experience I've ever had (and I've had 12+ piercings and tattoos). I've been thinking about a particular piercing for awhile, like, months. I finally decided to take the plunge and my husband and I came in on a Saturday. The guy at the front was super nice and informative, but there was a wait. However, I knew it would be worth it based on things I've heard about Stan. When we came back a few hours later, it was packed!Stan was awesome. He made an uncomfortable piercing seem comfortable and it was seriously the best experience I've ever had (and I've had 12+ piercings and tattoos). I had a lot of questions that Stan was willing to answer- and man did he give me some great responses!The customer service and talent at TRX is phenomenal. Truely disappointed in the service I received. I recently had an interview and needed to find jewelry to conceal and temporarily replace the rings in my cartilage. I selected this studio based on the positive yelp reviews and as such feel obligated to share my perspective of the experience with fellow yelpers so that you all will be able to make a more educated decision regarding who you want caring for your piercings and tattoos. During my initial visit, Seth at the counter presented me with two options for jewelry and the viable option cost me $85.00 for three studs, which is a lot for the purpose I needed but I knew that I would be able to use them in years to come. Jezzy who is a member of the association of professional piercers (APP) removed the rings that I have had in my cartilage for over a year. While she was changing my jewelry we talked about my interview and confirmed that I would be back in early next week to put my beloved rings back in and would update her on how the interview went. At no point did she mention the APP or store policies. I left pleased with my experience. The following day one of the studs fell out while I was showering and when I returned she kindly placed it back into the site of my piercing and was again friendly, but again did not mention the APP. Unfortunately, during my interview the stud fell out. As unnerving as wasting $25.00 is, my concern begins when I went back into the studio 2 days ago after my interview to have my jewelry put back in. Tom at the counter looked at my jewelry and informed me that the studio I had purchased the jewelry at in my home town was not APP approved, so they were unable to put it back in and I would have to purchase even more jewelry from TRX. Had I been informed of the studio policy during the initial visit, I would have likely purchased jewelry elsewhere, but this business would have gained my trust and established rapport for future business. As this did not happen, I can only assume that TRX is solely motivated in receiving customer money and pays little regard to customer satisfaction. Read Less

Had a great experience getting a VCH done here back in 2014 with Jezzy. Went back recently for some new jewelry for another piercing and they were beyond rude! The girl behind the counter made me feel like I was a criminal for changing my mind on something. Proceeded to talk rudely to me and about me to another employee. Next time I won't waste my time driving down here for any reason. There are places closer that offer far better service and genuinely appreciate the business. Read Less

Customer service is great.  They actually listen to customers and work with them to achieve something that is a) possible given the individual's body/physiology, b) aesthetically pleasing, and c) within the customer's budget.  I had most of my piercings done here by Stan and Jezebel and could not be happier.  Aseptic technique is solid, and it's also nice that they have actual separate rooms rather than just curtain separators--it cuts down on the noise and gives it a more professional feel.  They are slightly pricier than some other places in the area for piercing services (again, don't know about tattoos or upscale jewelry as I have not purchased either of those things), but this seems to be one of those cases where you get what you pay for.I did inquire about a tattoo here, however the artist I talked to was not very helpful or willing to work with me on designs, so I ended up going elsewhere. I think this is partly my fault: I went as a walk in (albeit at a non-peak hour) to see the artist currently in the shop, rather than making an appointment. I think if you want an "artist's choice" tattoo or something "textbook", doing a walk in here would be fine. However, if you have an involved idea or just want some space to think things through, you'd probably be best to look at their artists' portfolios and then make an appointment with one who matches your style. This was my first tattoo experience in St Louis, and it was fantastic. I went in with an idea of what I wanted. The guy at the desk, Tom, was super helpful and had it printed up and ready to go within minutes. It was priced and scheduled within ten minutes. I went in two days later. My tattoo was quick, virtually painless and looks fantastic. Francine was a great conversationalist and I was blown away by the friendliness and professionalism of the employees. This place is amazing the environment is great people are nice there it's clean it gives off a good vibe it's in a nice area by tower grove park. My artist was Jeremy Lambert and I give him personally a 5 star rating too he did great work for my first tattoo and we got along nicely I would highly recommend this establishment. This was the best experience ive ever had walking into a tattoo/ piercing shop. They are incredible in the customer service department. The team is super patient, very kind, and welcoming. Everyone was super thorough in explaining everything to me involving my piercing (nostril) and made sure that i was informed and comfortable. When i chose my stud, the girl even brought it out and brought out a smaller one so i could compare them side by side and make sure it was what i wanted. Came (semi) spur of the moment to get my tragus pierced. They were able to answer any questions/concerns I had, gave opinion on which earring to choose (glad i didn't get the smaller stone i was originally thinking of - cost of mine+piercing was around $60). Waited possibly 15-30 minutes, not a bad wait for a walk in as there were 2 people in front of me. There were people getting tattoo consultations, so it was just overall fun vibe in the studio during the wait.Jezzy did my piercing. Explained how everything was going to go before and after care treatments. Made me feel calm and comfortable which was nice since I came on my own. I'm not freaked out by needles or getting piercings too much and didn't think getting the tragus hurt that much. Had the piercing for 2 months now and everything is looking great.Definitely recommend TRX! Read Less

I won't go anywhere else to get a piercing, ever.I have had seven piercings so far at four different piercing shops and this is as professional as it gets. It's clean, the employees are friendly, educated and informative, and they just do a damn good job of making sure you are comfortable and that you are getting what you want. Although my TRX piercings are my most expensive ones, I do not consider TRX to be expensive or overpriced. They are just the right price. If you're having someone put holes in your body, it's appropriate to pay this much for their experience and skill, and the quality of the jewelry.And go to Stan, he's the man! Read Less

I had such a great first tattoo experience here today. I was very nervous about the pain and Amelia was so sweet and gentle and it didn't hurt nearly as bad as I thought it would. She took as much time as it needed to make sure I was comfortable with the design and placement and really knows what she's doing. White tattoos are very hard to do well and not many places are doing them (at least doing them right) around here. Amelia is known for her white ink work and definitely knows what she's doing. My white ink tattoo is flawless and I absolutely love it. The shop is fun, clean, professional, and the artists take such pride in their work. I highly suggest Amelia if you want some beautiful art and a kind, gentle approach. I will definitely be a repeat customer. Thank you! Read Less

This review is mostly for the piercing side of the shop because I have not had a tat from them, yet. We, myself sister and a friend, came in on Saturday afternoon because my sister wished to have some new piercings. When we entered the establishment we were quickly greeted by Erika and Tom , whom were friendly and helpful! Not only did they explain everything that would go on but they suggested some jewelry when we asked about what the best pieces were.The shop is clean, and decorated with not only some great art but they had HUGE swinging boards on the wall with some ideas for those whom wanted to get tatted up. I found them to be interesting and helpful for someone whom wanted to get something but didn't quite know what they wanted.We had a little wait, it was Saturday after all (note to those out there, if your in a hurry come early or come during the week) so we looked around while we waited to be called. (I believe we waited about an hour, but it didn't seem that long). We were called back by the fantastic Jezzy, whom took us back into the room that she works in. The room was clean and she welcomed us quickly and got down to business. She explained how to care for the new piercings and what she was going to do beforehand. My sister chose to do a double conch piercing which she was rather pleased with. I, on the other hand, just got my cartilage jewelry changed out from another place because it was rather bothersome, and now it's perfect! I will have to update this once i decide upon a tattoo because I am going to be getting one after coming here and receiving great customer service! Read Less
