Great guys. But I think their style is very dated. Also, this was my first tattoo. Over all I'm okay with it. But I plan to get touched up somewhere else. The two brother's that own this shop are nice guys but truth be told there is no sanitary procedure in place and there skill level is horrible! I suffered unnecessary pain and now fear prolonged recovery time due to the artist lack of skill and care I received today. They dropped my piercing on the ground repeatedly and continued to install the dirty equipment without sanitizing it! They tugged pulled and ripped until blood was drawn then finally accepted that they had failed to install the equipment. They then blamed the issue on the hardware instead of admitting there lack of skill! There was nothing wrong with the hardware... I regret going to them now because I'm currently sitting here in pain with the wrong unsanitary equipment they installed because that's how they left me. I will never return to Goldenlands Tattoos or refer anyone to them for anything. Take it from me go somewhere reputable. Read Less

My daughter got her first tattoo just 3 months shy of her 18th birthday. Gary was very patient with her every step of the way even though she was extremely nervous. Totally recommend this shop. I got my tattoo done months ago but at a great price, professional and the company is family owed. The man.... I forgot his name.... But he talked to me the whole time and was just an overall great experience. I'm making this months later bcuz I happen to be looking at my tat and was like Yessss..... He clowned and I love it. My tattoo from them is small but a simple one. It's crooked and has shaky lines. I have to clarify most of the time what it is. The artist had to put on glassed and a ton of magnifiers to do it. I will never go back for a tattoo ever. Not worth the money spent. Read Less

Best tat shop ever! Mitch and Gary BOTH took their time helping me design my cover up. They didn't rush NOT ONE BIT even though it got late and the job turned out to be bigger than expected. They were fun to be around during the tat also. They are kind, honest and hard working Masters at the art of tattooing. They run their business with integrity. I have many tattoos...16 to be exact and I came here on my birthday for a sugar skull. I had initially wanted one on my finger but one of the guys talked me out of it ( by showing me what hand tattoos have a tendency to do over time) so I decided on my forearm. It's not doing healing yet, but it is the WORST tattoo I have ever seen done on anyone and I've seen many. The lines are uneven. I could have honestly maybe done a better job. I got this on Dec 30 and its Jan 2 and I'm already trying to see where I can go to get this corrected or if I'll need a coverup. How they're still in business I'll never know. Time to close up shop, suffer your losses, and realize that it's time to stop putting awful ink on someone they'll have to live with forever. Read Less

The two stars are for the great service I received over the last 19 years.  They are only getting two because of the 'service' I received yesterday.  I went in a little after they opened at 1 and asked for a daith piercing.  They are not super uncommon but Gary had no idea what I was talking about and was rude about it.  He had one person ahead of me and claimed he would be busy until they closed.  8 hours later.  Had I not called first to make sure the piercing could be done I would not have been so annoyed.  Mitch said I could come back the following day and see about it then.  No thanks.  I went over to Iron Age and had amazing, knowledgeable service.  Their sign does read they have the right to refuse service to anyone and that the customer has the right to go elsewhere.  You may want to. This place is horrible. My husband got his first tattoo here and not only does it need to be covered up but the jerk who was sitting at the front desk was extremely rude. He gave me a dirty look and an attitude when I told him what I wanted to tip the tattoo "artist". He did a terrible job and got a much higher tip than her deserved. Went to the shop tonight and the guy who did my tattoo was super friendly and an amazing person. He was quirky but he was awesome. He made my experience worth it. Tattoo was very painful and I was very jumpy. He was very patient and understanding even though I moved a lot. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a tattoo. I got my very first tattoo at Goldenlands 20 years ago. I also got several piercings here over the years. When I decided to get a tribute tattoo for my sister, it seemed appropriate to go back to Goldenlands because my sister also got her first tattoo there.  I no longer live in St. Louis but I am very familiar with the tattoo scene. I have multiple tats from other places and I know there are many other places that are more popular. I picked this place because of the nostalgia attached to it and my sister. I went to get my tattoo back in December while in town for Christmas . The first thing I noticed when I arrived was that it was empty. It was a Saturday and I was the only customer there. The second thing I noticed was that there were only 2 tattoo artists. Hard times!  But I recognized the owners. In particular the gentleman that did all of my piercings. I explained what I was looking for and he designed my tattoo and it was exactly what I was looking for. For that, they get the two stars. I wish I knew his name. He's the one with the white beard/goatee.  He did my tattoo and I noticed during the process that his hand was shaky.  These guys are getting up there in age and I was really worried. At that point, though, there wasn't anything I could do because he'd already started. He finished the tattoo and it was good but there were obvious areas where the lines weren't clean. I had to point out several places that needed to be touched up. He did the touch ups as requested but he seemed really annoyed with me for pointing out the imperfections.Fast forward to weeks later. The tattoo was completely healed and there were many more flaws that needed to be fixed. As mentioned before I no longer live in STL but had a business trip scheduled in February and so I planned to get my tat touched up then.Fast forward to today. As soon as my flight landed I drove to Goldenlands. I walked in and there were a couple of customers having tats done. I told the other owner I needed a touch up with the white bearded guy. He told me that he would be tied up for a couple of hours and recommended that I come back. He was really rude. I left but I had a really bad feeling. I went back 2 hours later like directed and white bearded guy rudely said to me "I'm booked. I can't help you." I knew he recognized me. He couldn't even be bothered to take a look at my tattoo. And my tattoo is a very small heart on my wrist. It took only an hour to do the original and would take 20 minutes at most to do the touch up. They just didn't want to do it. Now I have to go to another shop and pay to have it fixed.These guys are rude. Additionally, white bearded guy has shaky hands and isn't very precise. This is my 5th tat and the simplest one I have. It's just a heart. Yet I've never had to have another tattoo touched up due to imprecision and splotchy coloring.  Unfortunately, these guys are a bit old and its reflected in their artistry and precision.I am very disappointed and, needless to say, will not be going back. I'd rather pay someone else then take another chance on Goldenlands. Read Less

2 words, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I have heard so many horror stories from my friends about tattoo shops that were unclean/unprofessional/did not do a good job, and this place is the exact opposite. Gary & Mitch are two of the most gifted tattoo artists I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and always go above and beyond to make sure everything is done safely and correctly. I have gotten 6 tattoo's from them so far and every single time I have had a great experience and felt like I made the right decision by choosing to give them my business. So please, if you are going to go out and get a tattoo.. make sure you give the right place a chance to prove how it should be done! I know that I will NEVER GET A TATTOO ANYWHERE ELSE! 5 Stars! I went yesterday 3/24/12 to get a leg piece done and i absolutely love it!!!!! Gary did mine and it was my first but he told me how to move to where it wouldn't hurt. he told me complete aftercare instructions. Today i went back with some healing concerns and i spoke with him and mitch and they both looked at it and told me what was happening and why. They made me feel at home while there and took care of me when i was no longer technically a customer. My husband got his tongue pierced by bill and he said it was the best job he had done so far. I love the birds they are kept in an enclosed environment with a lock so the shop is sterile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gary and mitch rescue the birds from abusive homes and take very good care of them me and my husband had blast and can't wait to go back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was a wonderful experience very professional and friendly will not go anywhere else in the city they have earned our repeat business!!!!!! if your looking for great artwork with great prices and great care for your feelings, before and aftercare go see gary, mitch and bill at goldenlands tatoo shop!!!! i got a lot of ink for a little price and the piercing was cheaper than we thought. Not the best experience.!!! I got my fourth tattoo done here and i was VERY disappointed with the outcome!! My tattoo became infected and turned my skin a dark purple. My skin felt like it had a really bad sunburn for days. i payed for what i got though. I don't regret getting the tattoo because i'm getting it done at a better place, but i would NOT recommend this to a person unless you want to pay more for getting it fixed.!! Read Less
