I did a walk in by myself just to get information about them doing piercings. I walk in and there about 4/5 biker looking guys standing around the front desk. I felt a little intimidated by me being a woman. I told them that I was interested in my daughter getting a nose piercing and wanted information. They were very friendly, polite, and advised me they no longer do piercing, but gave me the information of another tatoo parlor that was reputable. I've been a customer of Purgatory Tattoo for several years. These guys are majorally talented!! I usually have ideas of what I want to do and they take my idea and run with it creating something unique. There's absolutely no intimidation coming here because they treat everyone with respect. You know your in a good tattoo shop when it always smells medicinal..LOL. They are very concerned about keeping things clean and sterile. Also most tattoo shops are blasting death metal. This shop plays a full range of music and its never too loud. Love this place, I'm a super picky college student with four tattoos and I will not go anywhere else but here. I'll drive two hours from school to get a tattoo before I try somewhere new. These guys do amazing work! They do fast and high quality work. Really nice guys. Comfortable place to relax while you are waiting. They will work with you and make you comfortable as possible and do GREAT work for a resonable price. I will NEVER go anywhere else!! I had made the mistake the first time by going to a place that overcharged me way too much (Shrunken Head Tattoos), they charged me $80 for me and my friends TINY tattoos. Before moving to Independence, late in 2006, I'd lived in Los Angeles for several decades and had some work done at several parlors there. Nice work, all very expensive....The guys @Purgatory are all down to earth, charge extremely reasonable rates, do GREAT work and are a ball to hang with!! Several other folks commented that the guys are somewhat scary looking(i.e. face tats,etc.)but hey - isn't this a tattoo shop??!! aren't the guys putting ink on you SUPPOSED to role model all kinds of tats & placements??? if you're considering your first tat or your 50th, check out Purgatory - each artist offers something unique!! I met Chris years ago and always admired his work. When my son died in Oct 2008 I knew I wanted to have a memorial tattoo for him, and I knew just who I wanted to do it. It is hard to get an appointment with Chris because of his talent (he is in high demand) but when I called and told Pat (a very wonderful person that works at the shop ) what had happen, he relayed my messages and my emails to Chris. Chris and the other great guys at the shop made time for myself and my family, and they were all wonderful to us. And you talk about great work, if you want a professional tattoo, Purgatory Tattoos is the place to go. It was a wonderful experience for my whole family ! I got my first tattoo from the owner of the shop 18 yrs. ago. Chris is the only tattooist I can sit down in his chair and say just draw on me. They are very honest about what would look good or not. I seen poeple come in to purgatory and want something tattooed on them that would not be good. The guy's at purgatory would explain why it be bad. They always seem to take pride in their work. The guys at Purgatory are the best!!! I would not recommend anything before trying and they live up to their reputation. The shop is clean and safe, the guys are into their work and will help you decide what to get and where- how to make it personal- no matter what the design. The atmosphere is laid-back and easy, but as before they are serious about their art. They want the customer satisfied. I have had peircings done, taken friends to them for tats and finally decided on my own tat- my first- and I wouldn't go anywhere else for it. This tattoo shop does a great job. When you ask for a certain tattoo and show a picture the tattoo comes out even better than the picture you gave. I speak from experience. I have at least 20 tats from them. And will continue to get more work done there. Read Less
