Coming here was a surprise that I found out about last minute. From out of state so this was discussed with the artist. Told my GF that I could walk in and would be no problem to work out a tattoo with me. She even shot him some ideas. When we got there he acted like me not having any ideas on what I wanted was a problem. I asked him about his original pieces and eventually just gave him an idea as he didn't say much. Drew up a sketch (watered down version of what I asked for) I went with it because I most likely would never be back to Minnesota for my state piece and figured at least this easy 30 minute tattoo will be reasonably priced. Not my first tattoo but I was nervous. I'm a yuppie, corporate, suburban mom and always feel like a loser poser in a shop. But Mimi is so nice and made me feel at ease. She is way cooler than me but approachable and easy to talk to. Her creativity and passion for her work is something special. Rude tattoo artist, extremely overpriced for a small tattoo, bad experience in general. The only reason I gave it two stars is because I like the tattoo, but I could've gotten this tattoo easily anywhere else and enjoyed my time. Stopped by after a recommendation from a friend. The artist was quick to help, share his opinions on my design and schedule an appointment for a week later. The job was quickly done and extremely well done. I came ready to spend over an hour and it was done in just about an hour. At the end I shared my next design to which he promptly shared his ideas. Started coming here a few years ago and I love it. The crew in the shop is always very friendly and accommodating- they always get me appointment as soon as they can fit me in and are really open and creative when it comes to drawing up tattoos. If I have something specific in mind, they will tattoo exactly what I want OR if I ask them to put their own creative ideas into it, they'll always draw up something that's unique and awesome. The shop itself is beautiful and always super clean. As far as prices go, they're very fair. They do excellent work but don't overcharge. Great shop- can't wait to make my next appointment there. Ben did my hands and fingers, and did a great job. Great place, great chill vibe.No loud shitty obnoxious music playing, and no attitude. Ben is really nice and chill and a great artist.The other artists are really nice and chill and great artists too. I will definitely be heading back to see Ben.But I could roll with any of the other artists . The gist: awesome place, can't wait to go back. In January of 2016 passed by Sea Wolf and thought it looked pretty cool. Got home, went through the online portfolios of their artists, and decided that this was probably the place for me. Finally, somewhat spur-of-the-moment, I made my way back and, after a year of thinking about Sea Wolf, I opened their door. From the moment I stepped inside I knew I had definitely found my tattoo shop. A range of vintage and contemporary tatt...oo designs decorate the walls, the printed artist portfolios are well-bound and well-photographed, and all three of the fellas inside seemed pretty cool. It was nice to see that there were a lot of 2017-dated designs on display, everything looking clean and neat without any signs of neglect or stagnation. Andy came over to help me and we talked about, among other things, the few tattoo ideas I had floating in my head. We both had a small laugh about this being my first tattoo, but I didn't feel looked down on or anything of the sort. I settled on getting a slightly modified version of an illustration from one of my favorite books and Andy immediately went about making the stencil and setting up his gun. He put me well at ease as I lay on the table, told me I could run right out if I didn't like the way it felt, and seemed to gently apply the gun. Boy, was I surprised!! Not as painful as everyone makes out, just an annoying scratch, like Andy described beforehand. There were a couple of cringe moments, but generally it was fine. During the process we chatted a little, he was very easygoing, very friendly. Didn't seem to let the talk distract him, nor did he ignore my little ramblings. After about an hour, Andy finished the tattoo. When I got up off the table and looked in the mirror, I was nothing short of giddy: He did an incredible job! I adore Mimi and have gotten 6 tattoos from her, with two more scheduled, including one she did on my upper arm that she came up after only telling her I wanted my pugs, just not a traditional picture/portrait of them. Turns out they look pretty bad ass as a pirate and a sailor, who knew.I have literally no complaints, if I needed something touched up it was done for free and with no questions asked. I've been tattooed at other places where, while the staff was friendly and talented, everything from the music playing to the colors on the walls created a super chaotic atmosphere. You won't find anything like that here, it's a very chill atmosphere. I'd definitely recommend Sea Wolf if you want to get your first tattoo! Read Less

Got my first tattoo at The Sea Wolf and it was great. Mimi was very nice, professional, and made the experience stress-free. Since I live hours away from Minneapolis I had to consult Mimi through email and she was always quick to reply. I wasn't allowed see any sketches over the emails but Mimi is such an amazing artist that you shouldn't let that detour you from getting a tattoo here if you live far away. The shop is in a residential area. It was lightly trafficked but easy to find and park at. The shop itself is small but clean and cozy, filled with great art and whimsical decorations. The building is old but the employees seem to be on top of any repairs. I had a great experience at this shop and I would definitely go there again! Read Less

I saw Ben for my 3rd tattoo. I knew I wanted to get the state outline and my favorite spots teams.. What he did was unreal and would do it 100 times over. Everyone there is friendly and communicate. This was my first tat! Took me 48 years before it found me and although I wasn't nervous, I wanted to pick the right place and artist. I called and walked in to a few places, not right. Remembered this place from when I lived a couple blocks away and thinking "if I ever got a tattoo, I should go there". Well, I did and Mimi was great. Professional but not stiff or patronizing, shop is clean, cool, and low key. Nice they are small. She made me feel at ease, talked me through... it all and was respectful of my newness to the process and feeling of being tattooed. Honestly cannot say enough wonderful things about this shop and Mimi in particular. She has now done two tattoos for me - one simple and black only, one more involved and in color. In both cases, I came in with a pretty clear vision/inspiration and she was able to translate it into exactly what I wanted and make it look amazing. Easy to communicate with, easy to schedule. She is low-key and friendly, totally tolerant of my need to have a friend chatting to me about ridiculous things for distraction while she works, and really makes the process lovely. The shop itself is clean, bright and pleasant unlike so many other dark/sketchy tattoo places. I'd also note that wait times here seem to be less than some other popular shops, where artists are booked months out. I'd come back here for absolutely anything in the future. Read Less
