I had the most pleasant experience! Calling ahead there was easy and they were able to take me as a walk in quickly. I spoke with Carl briefly about what I wanted and he gave an excited yes! When I came in he was quick to start on what I wanted and did so in a professional and timely manner keeping me involved as he worked making sure I liked what he did. He also gave me plenty of options to make sure I was happy with what he could give me. Within 20 minutes of walking in I was in the chair and ready to go! The place was nice and clean and in good condition and I was happy to see the equipment was pristine and in good condition. Everything one time use and kept in clean working areas. I come from Virginia and the places there hold the same cleanliness standards but the people can be less welcoming, they still give great work but not as much personal experience. They are also much more costly here was much more fair priced and reasonable.Carl was soothing and easy to talk to, definitely gained my trust and gave me a design I love! He was precise with application and fairly quick with the needle. Although I was expecting to be there longer I was pleasantly surprised to see how fast he worked while still giving good quality. I just went in to ask about getting a septum piercing and get a feeling for who would be putting metal through my nose. I was met with a very unwelcome and condescending environment. They seemed uninterested in my business and my questions were met with very short answers, lacking any actual help at calming any fears I have, despite the fact that they weren’t actively doing anything. I had decided on Liquid Swordz because of all the positive reviews I read about their friendliness and willingness to talk through the process. When I inquired about how it works, I was told “You come in, sign papers, and then we go back there.” I understand that when you’ve been doing this for 18 years, it doesn’t seem like a big deal. But I haven’t. And I can read all I want about it (I have), but I went in to ask questions to know I would be in safe hands. I just got my first tattoo today. Jeff was my artist. Having my first, I had next to no idea how the process went. But Jeff was really helpful. ... First I dropped off my sketch, Then some time later he called me to ask a few questions. Then the day of the work he finalized it all with me. He gave me his ideas and we worked it out to the final design. If you can, take all the time you can to think about your idea, Bring artwork if you can even remotely create your own first, This will cut down the design time. Figure out all the tiny details too, this way you can better describe where you want to be in the end. When the work began he took a minute to explain what was going to happen, Again, this was my first. He also gave a good balance of "Push thru, Man" and "Ok let's take a break". We stopped twice? First experience at Liquid Swordz was so pleasant, I came back!  I initially came in for a nose piercing and choose a stud.  A few months later I wanted to switch things up a bit, and had the stud switched out with a ring.  They cleaned the stud and re-pierced it above my ring, so I now have 2 stacked nose piercings.  Compared to the first piercing, the 2nd was relatively painless.  Is this even possible????  I am beyond satisfied and am eager to come back the next time I'm bored with my look.  Ty Dave!! I had a septum piercing done here. The piercer was very friendly and confident, but I later learned that confidence was a mask for incompetence. He made a point to say a lot of people don't know how to do septum piercings, but that he's very good at it. It wasn't too painful and it was a good experience. However, I went to Pangea to get it looked at after it had healed for new jewelry, as Liquid Swordz didn't have the kind I wanted and wasn't able to order it. I was also finding it a little difficult to maneuver the jewelry. The piercer examined it and said it was not done correctly, that it was crooked. He said he would advise taking it out and letting it heal and then getting it redone. The next day I went back to Liquid Swordz to show the piercer and have him look at it. He brushed it off and laughed nervously, but after I pushed him to examine it, he reluctantly did admitted it was crooked and took it out. He offered to redo it once it had healed, but I felt uncomfortable doing that given his previous attempt. Kudos for admitting incompetence though. Read Less

I went here to get a last minute tattoo that I'd been wanting for a while. For all my other tattoos, I've gone to my tattoo artist back home but now that I'm in the area, I wanted to find an artist I like out here. All the staff were really nice. They made sure I was comfortable and my tattoo was exactly how and where I wanted it to be. They have a $60 tattoo minimum and because mine was small, they touched up a few of my other small ones so I'd get my money's worth. I would definitely recommend them. I came to Liquid Swordz after a series of disappointments (due to the snobby attitudes of the staff, and the unnecessarily high prices of the services) with other tattoo/piercing joints in the Ann Arbor area. The first thing that struck me was how busy it was on a Wednesday evening. Even so, the receptionist was pleasant and I was given paperwork to complete pretty quickly. The vibe is a friendly, relaxed one - lots of great art on the walls, a case of body jewelry to peruse, and a slideshow on a TV which displayed information and pictures of work by the tattoo artists and piercer. I observed a couple of guys getting tattoos, and my partner & I chatted with the receptionist as we waited."Evil" Dave, the piercer, had just finished piercing the navels of two teenage girls, accompanied by their guardian - they looked a little wan when they came out, but there were no tears. I was there to get my nostril pierced, and from the time Dave walked me back to the time I was walking out of the place only a short fifteen minutes had elapsed. Dave was happy to let my partner watch the procedure, and he explained every step in detail. I was impressed with his degree of care and knowledge. He also has a great piercing 'bedside manner' - just the right blend of information and jokes - which put me totally at ease. Great service. I only trust Dave with my piercings. Any time I have gotten anything pierced (even my ears) anywhere else I end up with an infection. He knows what he's doing and you can tell he loves what he does. I have been in several times to change out the jewelry on my monroe after he pierced it originally and he is always in a great mood and offers great customer service. Okay okay, I know I reviewed Pangea and gave them five stars, but I'm also in love with this place. Really nice guys. Especially since it's right next to deja vu. They were clean, efficient, kind and really respectful. I went in to get new plugs put in my ears and liked the service I was getting so much that I just decided to get another piercing, which was no problem for this guy. As I was waiting for the room to be set up and jewelry to be sterilized, another guy showed me what he was drawing up for a customer. It was beautiful. I'm tempted to go in for some ink next. I got my very first tattoo here in 1997. Jeff was incredible-- I didn't just want some ""drawing on the wall"" deal-- instead I wanted something custom that meant a lot to me. I sat with him and came up with an idea. He sketched some ideas. The next day I came in and he had a NUMBER of custom options. Finally, we tweaked it, added that, changed this color, etc., and it came out BEAUTIFULLY!! The color is gorgeous on my skin tone, and he really knows how to match color & skin (because not all colors will look right). On top of that, he's highly professional, extremely pleasant and the place is immaculate-- super sanitary, very hygienic & sterile.
