Got one tattoo done here by Tracy. Had seen a lot of  her work on a friend and liked it a lot. Black and White pieces mostly. I asked for 2 semi matching pieces, with dotted lines. On one piece I got a light grey wash line (which I was happy with) on the other (supposed to be matching) I got a solid black line... Cool. Part 2. Few years later got a tattoo from the owner, he put the stencil on me and didn't even have me look at it, he decided it looked good and I quickly glanced to see if it was straight. Every other tattoo artist I've gone to had always had me go look and make sure it's exactly right. Well guess what. It wasn't. It was crooked and when, healed spotty. Yes I would have gone back to get it touched up as he initially mentioned I could. But I wasn't in the mood to hear stories about his brand of politics that I expressed NO interest in talking about, or his arrogance about being in the business so long and having so much experience. Well dude... It's made you lazy and rude. Keep your politics out of your business unless your client brings it up! I ended up going to Zach at Signature in Ferndale and having him cover one of the pieces as well as happily giving him my business for a new piece. Verrrrry disappointed.  Wonderland Tattoo has always been the local spot, everyone I grew up with got their first tattoos here.  I think I got my first five.  2 christmases ago, my husband bought a $100 gift certificate for me for Wonderland and I was thrilled!  A couple months later we found out I was pregnant.  My doctor advised me not to get tattooed while pregnant (risk if blood infection, compromised immune system, etc).  After my (first) kid was born it was a huge adjustment, like it is for everyone.  A couple months ago, as life was finally starting to have a reasonable rhythm again, I had some time to myself and thought I'd go into Wonderland and set up an appointment.  The artist working promptly let me know that my gift card was expired and no longer valid.  I tried to explain my situation, but she didn't seem interested, let alone compassionate.  From what I understand, this woman and the owner are the same two artists that were tattooing here when my husband bought the gift certificate so they just get to keep our money for nothing.  And now that we have a baby, there's no spending $100 on tattoos.  Diapers aren't cheap.  It does say on the certificate that it expires in a year.  And you CAN read it, with a magnifying glass.  It's not a coupon, we already paid for this.  Infuriating. I'm picky about my tattoo artists and the shops I go to. When it comes to Wonderland I have a sense of loyalty to this shop. All my tattoos were done by the artists who have come and gone and that remain a mainstay. My one tattoo that I got somewhere else I had touched up by an artist in this shop. Rob is a trip, he's so funny and knows how to entertain you and keep you occupied when doing a particularly painful area. Plus he's a huge Star Wars geek like myself. Tracy is a great artist and did one of my favorite tattoos I have. This is a place I will continue to come to for years to come and would highly recommend it to anyone who asks. I've been looking for a great tattoo studio. I tried Rockstar Tattoo at 13 & Gratiot, which was just awful. I tried Tattoo 13, and the middle of the tattoo healed with seriously no ink in it. However, this place is as good as it gets!Robert did my stargazer lily tattoo and it is just beautiful!It is completely healed now, and I have to say, it's just as beautiful and vibrant as the day it was done. He was professional, great company through the hours of tattoo work, and did an absolutely AMAZING job!This tattoo means the world to me. It's my mom's favorite flower, and I had certain expectations for how it would be... and he somehow exceeded them!I will be going here when I start my sleeve. This place is pretty great - it was recommended to me by an old roommate who had a love of tattoos.  I've been here twice and both times I've been more than happy with my experience.  The first time was to get my rook pierced.  It hurt like hell but that wasn't her fault (according to her I have very thick cartilidge in my ears haha) - but it was quick and over before I knew it.  The second time I came here to get a tat on my wrist - it was my Dad's writing, so she only needed to trace it, but she was super nice and it was over in a flash.  She also offered free touchups within the first 6 months since the wrist tends to lose the ink apparently.  It's been over a year now and I get compliments on my ink all the time, and although it's faded a bit, it still looks great.  I plan on going back for a touchup (although I know this one won't be free) soon.  I can't remember but they may be cash only - call before you go. I went to Wonderland tattoo about five years ago to get some lettering done just as the poster below did. I got the same advise from Rob about how the letters should be bigger for the sake of longevity. I too did not listen and went to another tattoo studio to have the work done instead. Well five years later and Rob is covering up the letters. Rob was right when he told me if I got them to small they would blob together, and they did. The other studio just wanted to make a buck, They did not care that the letters would look bad in a couple of years. Rob was at least honest with me, and told me that that is what would happen. Brutally honest to say the least. Well the coverup looks great, a little more then I wanted to spend but now it is a respectable tattoo. Wonderland tattoo has been in business for quite some time and Im sure if they just tried to get money at the expense of their customers they would not still be in business. Sometimes it is all to easy to write a review of a place and leave it at that. But I saw the poster below and I just had to reply. Happy tattooing, and if and when you go see Rob when your letters become unreadable after a few years because you got them too small, don't be surprised if he chuckels a little, that what he did to me. I went in to ask a few questions about getting my first tattoo. I didn't get my tattoo done at Wonderland and I'm thankful every single day. When I went in I showed Robert my design (it was a quote with semi-detailed font, like Old English) and he tried to rip me off and told me because of the font I would have to make it almost four times the size of what I had wanted and that it would cost me $250. Obviously since I hadn't gotten one I didn't know anything so we set up an appointment for the following week. Leading up to that week, I checked out another place that told me I could do it for the size I wanted and it would only cost $100. I looked through the artists book and realized that not only were his tattoos better, but the place seemed a lot more cleanly and more professional. My consult at Wonderland took a total of 2 minutes, realistically, and I would've hated what I ended up with. I ended up getting my tattoo done at Cherry Bomb and I AM IN LOVE WITH IT. I WOULD NOT recommend Wonderland Tattoo to anyone. Also, I know someone who got their tattoo done their and it looks terrible. The outlines are faded in a lot of the spots and the shape is almost unclear. Read Less

Not only do they have the best reputation in cleanliness, they have the best reputation for the work that they do.The first time I was there, I was only about 14 and I went to get the top of my ear pierced. It made such a good impression on me, I went back for my first tattoo. For my first tattoo ever, I had just turned 18 and was terrified of getting a bad tattoo, since it was going to be a memorial tattoo for a friend that died too young. The ""new guy"" was the only one available at the time, so I picked something out, he got everything set up, tweaked a few things to make it look unique (which I thought was wonderful), and started tattooing. It came out beautifully. A few months later I went back for a second one and requested the same person to do the next one. I must say, for being the least experienced, Chad is the only one I would ever want to tattoo me. For the second one, I designed it myself, but I can't draw, so I explained what I wanted to Chad and he drew it up perfectly. It was exactly what I wanted. That one also came out beautifully. I returned for a third a short while later with my fiance. We wanted each other's lips, so we kissed pieces of paper, Chad did his thing, and twenty minutes later, we both had wonderful new tattoos. And after we get married, on our own honeymoon, he and I are going to Wonderland again, to get eachother's names above the lips that we have there now. We will only go to Wonderland, ever. We have many friends that will only go to Wonderland. They are all wonderful people there, their prices are better than anywhere else, their work is better than anywhere else, and their health standards are better than anywhere else. I can't say enough good things about Wonderland tattoo. I have gotten six tattoos there so far and have only disliked one of them and the gentleman who did it no longer works there. Every piece i have I get compliments on, even from people who really don't like tattoos. The artists who work there are a blast to hang out with I always have a great time when I'm getting tattooed there. They are clean and safe, I have never even gotten so much as an infection from them. As far as that other review about the artist having an attitude I think I know who they're talking about and if I'm right this particular artist doesn't have attitude or an ego. That artist just tells it like it is. If you have delicate feelings or don't like that then go to another shop. As far as getting a bad tattoo anywhere you go, you need to explain what you want clearly and watch what the artist is doing if you don't like it open your mouth and say something. The artist is not going to get offended, they know it's gonna be on you forever and they certainly don't want bad work out there cause once you get a tattoo by someone you become a walking billboard for them. Wonderland is an amazing place to get a tattoo. They pride themselves on high quality tattoos(I have one that's ten years old and still looks new). So, when I used to live in Michigan I was recommended to this place. I've had two tattoos done. Let me disscuss each one seperately. 1. One was done pretty well. The shading was decent and it was what I desired. Some older guy with a bad attitude did it for me. Incidently, I should expand on that attitude thing. I'm really tired of pompous/arrogant tattoo artists that think they're hot simply because they're in the buissness. Get real. There are much more important jobs to be done. Also, that is only marginally justified if you even have appropriate talent, which I think most of the artists at this place are lacking. 2. So, about a year later I went back, because I refuse to go to Ink Slingers. Anyway, I can't even begin to tell you the atrocity that occured on my arm. Not only was the lining horrible, but the shading is a joke. The dude could not blend red and yellow, in fact, they are two distinct colors next to each other. He outlined a portion of it that should not have been outlined, making the darn thing look like a ying yang. I have endured too many jokes about this tattoo. I am actually going for a cover-up at a reputable/urban place in Philly. In closing, I think the rep of this place is over-inflated. Go somewhere more reliable. Oh, and find people with better attitudes. After my experiences there, I refuse to even considering giving a couple Ben's to some arrogant tattoo artists. I don't know who or for what reason the person above would do or say to tarnish the reputation of such an awesome studio. I have had all of my tattoos done at Wonderland and none of them are bad. All some one would need to do to see that the work from this shop is top notch, is to look at their web site wonderlandtattoonet to see that. I grew up in SCS, and the last time I went back to visit I got a tattoo @ Wonderland. Biggest mistake of my life! The lines are all shaky, the shading is horrible and spotty and I would NOT recommend this shop to ANYONE - not even my worst enemy.
