Very disappointed in this place. First of all I went in the shop in person to make my appointment to get pierced and they booked my appointment no problem. Then a few days later they call me to collect a deposit I had no clue about. They wanted me to pay in advance so I did it. When I get to my appointment he kept helping everyone else except me. Then I pick out my jewelry, fill out my paperwork and he sees that I’m diabetic. So he says he CANNOT pierce me I have to go to my doctor and have them fill out a form.. I’ve got pierced over 15 times and this has never EVER been an issue. I completely arranged my day around this and it was a complete waste. Very unhappy Read Less

I went to XS for a piercing yesterday (double helix) and could not have had a better experience.To my surprise, any anxiety I had before walking in the door was instantly appeased due to the care and customer service we received. Rich was beyond knowledgeable, and was extremely helpful and patient with all of our questions. He wants you to 100% love your piercing, and his expertise is clear throughout the piercing process.My younger sister, who is prone to anxiety attacks, also got a piercing yesterday (daith). However, Rich was so calming and thoughtful during the process that she hardly tensed a muscle, which said a lot to me about his level of care and precision.Very clean. Very precise. Just got my first tattoo with Steve Sype at XS. He was the consummate professional and I could not be happier with the outcome. He spent tons of time on the design and kept saying we wouldn't start until I was satisfied. He works most of the time down at the new Iconic in Detroit but still spends time at XS in Rochester. Seems like an okay and clean place, there are much better places out there however. I made an appointment and was on time and they left me sitting over half an hour until they saw me. I gave a $50 deposit and a photo of the tattoo design I wanted. Well the artist seemed pretty flighty and sent me a terrible scribbled version of the picture I gave him. He said he was really swamped. There was no way I was having someone hack my arm up like that because they couldn't find time for me. Thank goodness I cancelled and let him keep the deposit and now have 4 tattoos I had done elsewhere and am very happy with. Read Less

I love XS they have friendly staff who are willing to go to the ends of the earth for you. I have 9 tattoos and this is the only place in michigan I would have them done now. Steve has designed all but one of my tattoos. And that was the hummingbird I have on the back of my neck. The butterflies I have on the shoulder blade on the right side of my back he did those free hand. If I have extra time I'm my sitting Steve will also touch up old tattoo that I have had done other place (like Modern TAttoo near Great Lakes Naval Base, and Cherrybomb in Roseville)Rich the piercer is wonderful too. He was able to reopen two piercings which I hadn't had any thing in for 9 years. And I had another piercing that I had had the barbell out of for 6 months (around) and he could have reopened it with no problem but the initial piercing was wrong it was up to me reopen it wrong or repierce it right.  Rich gives you the salt you need to soak with, plus the sell the soap you should use, but if you like scented soap just order the scent you like off amazon for dr Bronner's  or at drbronners.com. i have been going to xs for years.  i have gotten 3 tattoos.  2 from matt and 1 from chase.  compared to previous places i've gotten tattoos from, this place is bright and very clean.  i recommend them to my friends who are sticklers about cleanliness.  i am so happy that matt and chase can take my ideas and really translate it beyond what i can think of.  totally worth the price for custom artwork. I just got back from XS today from getting my nose pierced by Rich.  I absolutely loved my experience.  I read some other posts that said something about him being rude or not explaining information so I was a little worried.  I can not tell you how far from the truth those posts were.  He was so nice and explained every little detail in length.  I can not believe the amount of information he told us.  The place was so nice inside as well.  I loved the vibe and I would most definitely recommend this place. I will never go anywhere else.  He knew exactly where it would look good and took his time with me and my questions.  Very professional, very courteous.  So glad I picked this place.  I did not think it was expensive.  I think it was $30 for the piercing and $20 for the jewelry.  That seemed really cheap to me but maybe that is because I am from California and I swear it is much more expensive there. SO glad Rich from Adornment Deluxe is there- I didn't know where I was going to go!!  He's been awesome to me in the past and all of my piercings have been a breeze.Rich takes time to answer all of my questions thoroughly and professionally, doesn't make me feel rushed, and goes over all details of aftercare, what could go wrong if not taken care of properly, what to look out for, and offers jewelry changes if you need a shorter post or adjustment after healing. This shop is nothing like your standard tattoo and piercing store. Think nice counters with beautiful, high quality jewelry, displayed artwork and the smell of incense. Now, I cannot speak for the quality of tattoos done, as I have none. But what I CAN tell you is that I absolutely adore Andy, the official needle master at XS.Over the span of a few years, Andy has been responsible for a total of three of my piercings. Laying on his table with the faith of your skin/cartilage in his hands, there is no way you cannot feel anything other than completely comfortable and safe. I believe he has been piercing for some 18?years now, and this guys knows his trade!On occassion, I have brought up some ideas regarding piercings but have been told that out of principle, he does not perform certain piercings. Apparently what I was after has a high rejection rate. Now really, I could easily go to a different shop and have these done, but my philosophy is basically "if its not Andy piercing me, Im not getting a piercing". The place is so clean, you could easily drop your pb&j face-down and apply a sixty second rule. A personal marker is used to determine the location of each piercing, and is gifted as a souvenir by a smiling Andy. Speaking of whom, when you are looking for information about anything piercing related- just give him a call, he is like a walking encyclopedia. Lastly I want you to know I trust this guy so much, I even brought in my teenage stepdaughter and niece (both piercing virgins) when they decided they wanted to get their ear cartilage done. The tattoo artist Mike wasn't capable of giving me what I wanted which was a fairly simple medium sized tattoo and was very rude and snotty. I don't mind paying a good price for somebody with a talented hand. But he wasn't even capable of doing something fairly simple and was very rude. I had to go with three stars because the artists are so talented. I got my first tattoo done there by Chase. I came in with a really simple logo type design, and he turned it into a one of a kind piece of art. The coloring is beautiful. He was super nice and it was a great experience.HOWEVER, the shop manager (perhaps?) can be a real jerk. He seems totally uninterested in talking to anyone, especially customers. Also, their prices have skyrocketed. I got a small color tattoo, about 1.5x1.5inches on my right hip, for $60 (2006). I ranted and raved about how great the place was, and took my friend. He got a 2x2inch tat, and it was almost $200. They want like $150/hour now.Haven't gotten any piercings done, but their prices seem pretty off the chart on that end too.The place is clean, the 3 tattoo artists are very talented, but its way over priced and if they can't give good customer service, I don't see why I should give them my business. I've only had tattoos done there by Matt Hessler, but they're all awersome guys. Every one there is super friendly and you can basically have a conversation with them about anything. They recently re-did the place and it looks nice. The eel in the salt water tank is pretty good too. Everything is done by appointment and they really have a professional atmosphere. People of the world,tattoos should not be done in flea markets or state fairs. Unfortunately, I see too many people getting American eagles and mom tattoos at such classy joints like Gibraltar Trade Center. People, you deserve better. You deserve to get a tattoo and not go away with hepatitis. Therefore, i highly suggest going to a much cleaner, classier joint like Rochester's XS Tattoo.XS Tattoo is home to several award winning tattoo artists like Matt Hessler (check out the website to see his portfolio). The artist that work at XS are well known around the Metro Detroit area and highly recommended, that's why I got my second tattoo at the joint. As a germaphobe, I obviously had some concern about sanitation, but as soon as I walked into the brightly lit parlor, I was sold. In addition, my tattoo artist Mike Welshons was great. He took the edge off by explain everything and through the process filled the nervous hours with casual conversation. Also, he spent several hours drawing my tattoo to ensure that it was perfect, before it became permanent. And he was not drunk like those flea market "artists". Bonus!XS also offers piercings as well as sales of  body jewelry. I'm always impressed with the staff every time I come into the parlor, friendly, knowledgeable, and patient(I once saw a girl change her mind 10 tens on a tattoo). When I was shopping around to get some piercings done, one of the first places I priced was XS. I've seen their work and it seemed good enough, so I decided to go in. Big mistake.I didn't get the name of who I was talking to, but the guy was rudely uninterested in answering my questions. That's really strange since he was the one who would be making money off of me! When I finally got the pricing, I was shocked. For the two piercings it was going to be $120 without jewelry! After that, I walked out and never came back.I understand it's all about supply and demand, but come on. I now know better than to go into Rochester expecting a deal on... well, anything. I got the work done at Magic Touch instead, and the jewelry has lasted for years and the piercings still look great! After the fact I realized just how pricey XS is. Most places will do the same work WITH jewelry for half the price. Now, I understand that skill and sterilization are factors, but just about any place with an autoclave and a piercist with more than 1 year's experience will do quality work. Althought XS was super clean and felt safe to be in, the customer service was not all there. I made an appointment for a tatoo a week in advance, and when I got there the guy kept me waiting for an HOUR while I sat there listening talking to some chick on the phone...how professional. They offered no ideas or professional suggestions when it came to design. lastly, my boyfriend had also gone there for a tatoo and the guy cancelled just hours before the appointment.....Keep it clean guys, it's all you have goin for ya.
