I had work done from cam and the lines blew out and the ink bled all around the edges of the tattoo. it heavily bruised and swelled up and some areas scarred, but there is 1/2 inch to 1 inch blue/green halo of ink bleed around my whole tattoo and spreading down my arm. I have asked to come in to remedy it by no other means than adding more to cover it up but have never gotten a response back. Read Less

I'm seconding what Julie and Nicolle said about the shop, and in particular the amazing artist and human being that is Alex Del! It was my first tattoo, and to commemorate my best friend and kitties that had recently died, he hung in with me through a few revisions and change in theme, accommodating all my needs, preferences, and schedule. I love to show it off and to tell everyone who to go and see. The pain was minimal, and with proper aftercare (using coconut oil and having only a few days of discomfort and peeling), I was left with something everyone loves! It healed up perfectly with only the tiniest touch up needed. I am so happy and if I am to get another, will def go to him. My first tattoo ever as I ascend up the steps of young fuckboi-hood. And I couldn't have been more thrilled. Alex Del was my artist. He's phenomenal. To say in the least. We changed a few things up from the original. I was beyond nervous being my first tat and we made changes. But it came out hella nice! I came in from out of state wanting a matching tattoo with my cousin that holds significant meaning for us. Mike stepped right in and made it happen after we were let down at the last minute elsewhere. He was very patient, extremely professional and answered all our questions, and he's got a gentle hand with the needle. Consider this one star rating a negative five. I received a tattoo on my sternum from Cam Pohl in November 2016. While I shouldn't have agreed to the design off the bat and scrutinized it more (I do take fault in that) the execution of the tattoo was not even worth a dollar. Where to start, the tattoo I received started to blow out (ink bleeding), the lines were extremely crooked (nothing close to what the original sketch was like, and the jewel centerpiece turned into a hideous blob. Not to mention he added gradient dots that were not on the original design without my consent. Also getting a sternum tattoo with only one break, no water offered, and no concern to my well being was not a great experience. As soon as I noticed the signs of a very bad tattoo, I immediately tried to get in contact with Pohl but he ignored my attempts. At this point I reached out to the owner of the shop, Eric Jenks. He then lit some fire under Pohl's butt to get back to me but at this point I've become so frustrated at the unprofessionalism shown by Pohl, that I did not want him touching me again and making the disaster worse. I asked for my money back minus my tip to compensate for Pohl's time, he said no. Pohl said "all i can do is attempt to fix what you see is wrong. if youre not allowing me to do that then what you do is up to you. " So now I am left with a HIDEOUS thick lined and patchy tattoo that was meant to be delicate and feminine. Absolutely consider going elsewhere for your tattoo, unless you want subpar, unprofessional work done. I am saving now to get this terrible experience lasered off of my body or covered up by a competent artist - Very upsetting! Pictures for reference will be posted on Yelp. Read Less

Being my first tattoo, I was nervous. I went in on a whim, waited a bit to get in (my own fault went as a walk in on a Saturday) and glad I did! Fox did my tattoo and I had no fears at all! I was completely comfortable the whole time, he explained the whole process to me and was very thorough about how I should handle after care. I have had two tattoos done here by Chris Fox, and I would HIGHLY recommend him and this shop! The shop is very clean, and all the artists are really nice and professional. I am planning to continue going to this shop for my future tattoos! They are very easy to get ahold of, prices are really reasonable, artwork is beautiful.... Chris is very patient, and answers all of my questions! He did the two tattoos I have, and even though they were really simple compared to the complex artwork I am sure he can do, he still took the time and effort to do them beautifully! A few weekends ago my younger sister and I got our first ever tattoos at Fish Ladder. Naturally, we were a bit hesitant about the process. Our nerves went away very quickly as soon as we met our tattoo artist, Levi. He was wonderful! Very easy to talk to and made us feel very comfortable. The apprentice (didn't get his name) was also super approachable and personable. We got wrist tattoos and I believe the price came out to $65. SO much cheaper than Splash. We wouldn't consider going anywhere else for future work and absolutely plan on scheduling with Levi again next time! Read Less

Got a new tattoo yesterday here after a local friend recommended them. Had a shitty experience at Splash of Color right before coming here. Ended up having my tat done by Solomon. I'm mostly happy with it, seemed a little pricey ($120) for 25 mins and the simplicity of the design which I brought in,  IMO. Having said that I like how the birds turned out, Solomon was super cool to me (unlike Splash) and everyone was professional and courteous. I'd go back. Read Less

Hey man, get this, Im not from around Lansing at all. Im just here on leave from the military and I decided the new year was the right time to get one of the many tattoos Ive had my eye on for a while. With that being said, I spontaneously went on yelp this morning and just typed in "Tattoos" (but in all caps because I was excited). Fish Ladder Tattoo was the first outta the bunch; I read ONE review, hopped in the car and drove over. I said "Eh, Ill just check it out. See what their prices are that sorta thing" Well, when I got there it just blew me outta the water. Everyone was friendly, they were FUNNY, not just regular 'joe-schmoe' funny but they had personalities...personable personalities. It was awesome. They offered me a groovy deal on some Sailor Jerry work and I love it. Its by far the best tattoo Ive got. I dont live here but I have a feeling when I come back to visit I will be back to this shop or whatever shop Madson heads to. Hes hilarious and he works fast and his work is just incredible! He seems to specialize in traditional tattoos which is great if thats what youre into. If not he can draw up whatever!Dont look any further, Lansing is a big small town but I doubt you'll find a better tattoo shop. Oh and did I mention its clean? Holy woah. I've been going to Fish Ladder Tattoo Co. for well over a year now for a single sleeve that is near completion.Chris Boilore is my artist, as well as the owner of Fish Ladder, and does incredible work.  I first went to Chris based on a recommendation from a friend, and took my brother (he had an anchor tattooed on his left abdomen for his Navy service).  Since then, I've been able to create great friendships with Chris and the other artists at Fish Ladder.  Everyone is incredibly easy to work with, the work is outstanding, and I would highly suggest Fish Ladder to anyone.I often have to tell people "I wish I had their card on me" because of the compliments that I receive on my unfinished sleeve. Very professional, follow all State laws regarding sanitation and licensing, as well as requirements when a minor gets tattooed with parent present, etc.  Madson was our artist. My daughter wanted a memorial tattoo to honor her father. Madson took her sketched idea and tweaked it into a wonderful piece of art that will last a lifetime. She was extremely thrilled. Madson was very attentive, concerned for her comfort and safety, gave excellent instruction and answered all of our questions with patience. The shop is very clean, the staff are friendly. I had seen people all around the Lansing area with amazing tattoo work, and every time I asked them where they got theirs done they would say FIsh Ladder. I finally got the courage to go in there and talk to Eric Jenks about my first tattoo. He was super nice and calm. They are bust guys so I had to wait about a month after I made my appointment to get it done, but it was worth it. I could not have picked a better artist or shop to do my first tattoo. I got a tattoo from Eric Jenks of Fish Ladder Tattoo in October of 2007. There are only two artists in the shop: Eric Jenks and Chris Boilore. Both of these guys used to work at Splash of Color in East Lansing and have robust portfolios. I came to Eric with only a vague idea of what I wanted and Eric drew up a GREAT design for me; it was absolutely perfect! These guys are definitely artists. I would say my tattoo was moderately priced (I believe I paid $140 + tip for about 3 hrs of work). I know someone with a lot of work by Chris and her tats are all very beautiful as well.The shop itself is quaint and clean, very welcoming. Located in Old Town Lansing. I definitely suggest checking out Fish Ladder if you are in the Lansing area! Read Less
